Saimoe 2009 Faves
Since SaiMoe 2009 is happening just right now, I thought about making a list about my favorite girls this year. I must admit that I never really voted once last year (heh~ too lazy), but I really had fun playing some bets and predictions and stuff. It’s just too bad that my top 2 bets Nagisa and Hinagiku lost T___T. Stupid Lucky Star twin moeblobs DX! /raeg. So anyway, here goes my list~!
Oh, first of all, for those who are (still) unaware about this, SaiMoe is a yearly “moe” contest in which the most-“moe” girl of anime that year will be crowned. Of course, it’s all up to everyone’s hands on who will, by voting.

Here’s the full list of the contestants below, as well as the schedules of the previous, current and upcoming matches in the 1st Round of the competition. I won’t bother updating/poting the results but I would love to suggest some sites catering us to what’s happening in the competition like Anime Saimoe and Moetron.
I also put up my favorites in every Group ^^. I tried my best to pick a favorite for every letter group. But some groups have really nobody getting my interest, while some have a number of girls I like. Btw, I would like to clarify first that this is just a “Faves” list. Not a prediction, not a “who’s gonna win” list, but I do hope one of the listed girls will win ^^. So yeah, this list is made entirely out of fun and it’s highly biased/subjective/etc. Feel free to share your favorites as well later in the comments section ^^. GROUP A FAVORITE: On A1, I really like Ayame Ikaruga from Asu no Yoichi and Cal Devens (Phantom), too bad Cal lost T^T. On A2, Mei Sunohara is definitely moe (CLANNAD). But honestly, I have only one favorite in this group all the way.

I REALLY WANT UTAU TO GET A FIERCE COMEBACK AND PWN ALL THOSE BITCHES THAT CUT HER OFF SO EARLY LAST YEAR!!! 😡 Phew~ There. I said it. I was really sad (and mad) the the queen of twintailed shoujo moe tsundere had been treated like that last year. But now, by winning and beating all those bitches badly in her match, I hope Utako beats all the odds and gets a comeback to prove who the queen is! XD.

Moe fox deity goddess is moe. No questions needed. I hope Horo would come far in the competition, but it seems really that unlikely because she’s in for tough obstacles ahead. But making her win her first match will already make me happy ^^.
B2: MIO AKIYAMA
And here’s the so-called most popular girl of the year making her Saimoe debut. I won’t be really surprised if she wins this but at the same time it would be really lame because it’s… predictable. But oh well, I like Mio anyway so she deserves to win it ^^. Actually, I find her mature side more moe than that forced cute moments. But still, putting her on my faves list for the haters.

Sweet, adorable, ojou-sama moe, dojikko, plus her closet-otakuness just adds so much moe factor to her! OMG I would really like Nogizaka Haruka to get so far in this year’s SaiMoe, and I would really love it if she wins ^^. Well, I think Alice can be considered as “cool” too, but when she’s in the MOE MOE KYUN mode, she’s irresistibly cute I wanna glomp her to death! XD

Ranka’s the girl I originally want to win in SaiMoe last year… Too bad she got cut early T_____T. But I hope she’ll even reach out way more farther this round, or win? hopefully :D. But with all the new moe girls on the block, and Macross Frontier being SO yesterday, I sure hope the Ranka love will still remain and take her to the top.

She’s definitely the top dog of the contest, for sure. After being soooooo darn close to winning (along with Nagisa) last year, it was disappointing that she lost. I thought that Hinagiku might pull off the win though because putting the fact that this beyotch is insanely popular, she’s undeniably moe. Come on, tsun-tsun, pink hair and just plain awesome attitude. Hinagiku’s the one to watch out for because she’s having her eyes set straight to the crown ^^.

GROUP F FAVORITES: F1: Aisaka Taiga (ToraDora!) and F2: OMG this is gonna be so darn hard -__-. Torn apart betwen Azu-nyan (K-ON!), Nagisa (CLANNAD) and Yoko (TTGL). But I’ll go on with Nagisa because she was so close last year T__T. F will be the toughest one so far.
F1: TAIGA AISAKA (Tora Dora!)
Along with Nogizaka Haruka, Taiga’s one new contestant in SaiMoe as well that I’m sure to be rooting for this year. But since last year, we already have a tsundere moeblob winner, I guess people will either be tired of it, or would want more for a second tsundere win in a row. It’s so confusing. But anyway, I still like Taiga because hands down she’s undeniably the SUPER tsundere moe around.
F2: AZUSA NAKANO (K-ON!)
Add the loliest guitar playing loli of the goddarned loli moeblob show and I won’t have any doubts that she won’t stay long. Azusa has so much fanboys (…and fangirls *raises hand*) That alone makes her someone to watch out for amongst all the K-On! girls in this year, along with Mio (well I can see all five K-ON! girls winning on their respective rounds but I feel that both Mio and Azusa are the most popular)
F2: NAGISA FURUKAWA (CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~)
NAGISAAAA!!!! I was totally down and depressed when she lost on SaiMoe, even though it’s kind of a respectable one I guess? Since Kagami is that strong back then. But yeah, still sad about that. Anyway, I hope she’ll be at least in the final two this year. But I still think it’s unlikely now because of newer competitors T__T. But I hope she’ll still be in the final eight…. or four…. or damn WIN GIRL WIN! Classic moe FTW!
F2: YOKO (TTGL)
I know she’s resting on “hot” and “pretty” but I’m still on for Yoko! XD. Hey, she’s so moe! Especially when you see her character song AND her PV of it shown not too long ago~. It’s just so awesome.

GROUP G FAVORITES: G1: I can sense Haruhi and Yuki here (duh~ popularity contest thingy) while I’m triple torn apart on G2 between Matsurika (Maria Holic), and Ushio (CLANNAD). But screw them others, because I’m all the way for these girls:

If ever there’s gonna be somebody “genki” going far in the competition, I would bet that it would be none other than Ritsu. I really love her genki-ness and she’s moe with and without her headbands ^^. And every expression of her is moe! Gif spamming is teh proof ^^.

GROUP H FAVORITES: Actually, my favorites on H1 aren’t really leaning on “moe” for they’re more on the “fierce!” or “beauty” side. So yup~ Yomi (Ga-Rei ZERO) and Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier) ftw~ and H2 goes to the fierce goddess Rina Ogata-sama (White Album) but she’s more on the “fierce” than “moe” but she still has some moments. I also like Zange-chan (Kannagi). Nagi (Hayate no Gotoku) seems to be the toughest competitor of the bunch, so I won’t be surprised if she beats everyone (blech! do not want anymore of that stereotype loli tsundere). I would prefer again, as I said it before, a new character to win F.
H2: RINA OGATA (White Album)
Well White Album is indeed a very irritating piece of crap, but there’s only one thing that’s giving it some light, and that’s Rina. Well, Rina’s just perfection~ She’s super nice and can be super bitchy. And she also has cute moe moments that makes me wanna go d’awwww~ I really can’t point out a huge thing that makes her moe because she’s more of a “fierce” or “hot” one but probably what makes her cute is her kindness ^^. Overall, not really expecting her to win a match, but she’s still my favorite.

fff, it’s time for Saimoe again o u o ;;; Too many overrated tsunderes leading last year(though some were really moe other were just based on the fanbase) *cough cough cough* hgnnn Haruka loveee, I really hope she wins/comes really far too, her dojikko moe is the one I loveee~ , Nagisa, Taiga and Ranka are my other favorites * u *
Of course I’m betting on Mio to win though = u = ;; She has a huge fanbase, and most waifu claims xD; Kyoani girls always have to take the lead though *sigh* Azusa and Hinagiku have big chances too o u o;;;
hmmm Perhaps Saimoe will step up this year but I doubt it, ah but looking forward to the competition anyway ~! ^ u ^

I’m rooting for Taiga and Yui to win~! My other favorite that probably won’t go very far is Sheryl. I was surprised, however, that she did better than Ranka (who although not as popular as Sheryl is more moe) in the prelims.
Hmm, I don’t think Mio will win the whole thing. She didn’t get as many votes as even Yui in the Prelims. Yui also was recently ranked 2nd in Newtype above Mio. I guess she has had some backlash because of her immense popularity. Personally, she’s not my favorite K-On! character, but she’s cool when not in “moe moe kyun” mode.
Although I haven’t watched Saki, it seems that the character nicknamed “Tacos” is one to watch for.

While I think moe goes a long way in these comps (duh lol) a lot (more like most) of people still vote for their fav characters as opposed to voting based on moe. It’s why Sheryl made it to top 32 in last years Korean Beat Moe while Ranka couldn’t get out of prelims. Not that I expect either two from Frontier to do anything.. I think Ranka lasted longer last year because she run into a heavy hitter one round later than Sheryl.. iirc Sheryl got knocked out by Tomoyo and Ranka by… Nanoha?
Though Sheryl/Ranka could be a dark horse if one of them survives long enough for the movie promotion to kick into full gear. And movie comes out in November too if they last that long…
Also I’m expecting massive Mio backlash as soon as there’s someone “good” enough for her to get knocked out by. Kinda like when Hinagiku got knocked out by Luna after scoring the most votes in the first round.

I’m glad Utau made it pass the first round. I swore vengeance against Minami-ke last year for kicking her out and hope she PWNs them into the concrete if they ever go up against each other

The two (not really big but still) problems I have with SaiMoe are that if there is an anime that is completely blatant moe and a sequel anime to a very popular first season, all the well-known girls are going to knock out the potential newbies like *slap* “Beat it bitch, this is MY tournamentâ€. It’s unfair but there’s nothing I can do about it. But Haruka needs to go at least to the semifinals! She’s pure moe, awesome oujo-sama AND an otaku! Best combo FTW~ <3

Well I was right about backlash.. Kana from Miname-ke just knocked out Mio in the first round.
