Absolute Anime Ending Themes

Last time, I posted the list of the BEST Anime Openings that I love. Now I will count down the BEST (lol, in my opinion only ^_^ no flame wars please!) ANIME ENDING THEMES that I love!!! There would be only fifteen songs because I only find a few ED themes that I like ^_^. They are the songs that kept me until the last second of the show and they made a lasting impression and impact after I watch it.  Like the rules of last time, there would only be ONE song per anime series and anime shown from the 1980’s below were totally out of my list. So here it goes!!!

15: REASON – Gundam SEED Destiny 1st ED

Nami Tamaki is one of my fave J-Pop singers. Her song for Gundam SEED Destiny fits the dramatic side of Gundam very well and it had always been stuck on my head (and my iPod) since.

14: MOON IN THE WATER – Beck Mongolian Chop Squad insert song and 2nd ED

BECK is one of the FEW animes that I found the dub version isn’t that bad. The song ‘Moon In The Water’ (or ‘Full Moon Sways’ to some is a great ballad in Engrish. The ending video accompanied it with relaxing views of nature, and the moon.

13: TAISHOU.A – Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai ED

The calmness of the song is very deceiving to what the singer is implying. I love the breezy feel the song has and the ED video has some symbolisms in it to take notice of.

12: DANGO DAIKAZOKU – Clannad ED

LOL, you are not expecting this one right? The reason why I put this song up here is because of the dangos!!! besides from the top-notch animation from Kyo-Ani, the song is perfect for a lullaby and the ED itself carries another thing that Clannad would be remembered of: Dangos.

11: NINGYO HIME – Chobits 2nd ED

The melancholic tune and lyrics of this song is very haunting and I love it to bits. This ED was first shown on the ‘more serious and dark’ side of Chobits and it gave me ‘the chillz’ the first time I saw it. Clamp did a great job on picking this song for the series.

10: HIMITSU DOLLS – Strawberry Panic 1st ED

Why do yuri series get the best soundtrack?! OMG this ED sequence is a total cutee! I posted up the complete PV video up here since there’s no difference from the ED sequence. Mai Nakahara and Ai Shimizu has great voices, they have cute nails and they wear cute clothes! The end of the video is a shocker btw O_O…

9: AISHITERU – Bokura Ga Ita (We Were There) 1st, 8th and 10th ED

Among the many many many Bokura Ga Ita ED themes, this one is my most favorite, or I might say one of my fave J-Pop songs ever… I love this song! Why can’t they just made this it’s permanent ED theme? Enough with my rantings, this song is pure bliss and I love it ^_^

8: KARINUI – Jigoku Shoujo 1st ED

Mamiko Noto sang this song disgustingly well that it gives me ‘the chillz’ everytime I listen to it. It is sad and creepy at the same time. The colors and art used in the ending sequence is done beautifully. And of course the PV is creepy as hell with that Enma Ai doll.

7: STILL DOLL – Vampire Knight ED

This ED is pure eerie and creepy written all over it. From the clock going counter-clockwise, to Yuuki dancing with strings and to those glowing bloody-red eyes. Kanon Wakeshima is really talented young singer and her song for Miss Alice fitted Vampire Knight’s gothic and dark side.

6: HARE HARE YUKAI – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ED

Who would ever forget the epic dance number called ‘Hare Hare Yukai’ everytime an episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ends? Now let me present y’all a different edition of Hare Hare Yukai here complete with costumes!

5: BE YOUR GIRL – Elfen Lied ED

The contrasting upbeat J-Pop ED theme of Elfen Lied sung by Chieco Kawabe is very addictive to listen to. I put up the PV video because the ED video was just a still boobshot XD… Anyway, great song but the video could have been better to make it get a higher position on my chart.

4: YOAKE UMAREKURU SHOUJO – Shakugan no Shana I 1st ED

Again, another ED theme that has a great song but because of the video, it should have been my number one. I like the full song of this and the Gregorian thing there is very cool. The intro lines were also very strong and powerful to pull off a techno dance beat after that. IMO, this is the best Shakugan ED ever made.

3: TIP TAPS TIP – Eureka Seven 3rd ED

Besides from being one of the best modern anime today, Eureka Seven has good soundtrack as well. It has great OP and ED themes. My favorite ED theme was the catchy J-Pop song Tip Taps Tip, sung by HALCALI. I love how it shows a laid-back, slice of life-ish theme with the video of Eureka and Anemone living like normal teen girls.

2: SHISSOU – Ouran High School Host Club ED

[Warning: The video contains spoilers] I love Shissou the first time I heard it on Ouran. But what made me love it more was when it was played on the finale. It fitted perfectly well on the scene especially when Haruhi went off chasing Tamaki using a carriage. It really made a lasting final impression from the series, which was great. The ordinary episodic ED btw, is quite ordinary with a static image with moving cameras for the main characters in hot outfits.

1: SPLIT – Honey and Clover 2 ED

Well probably the anime that I’ve become the most emotionally attached with. I’ll admit that Honey and Clover was the only anime that made me cry and it was when the ending song played in the finale. The lyrics was very sad and it talks about the possibility of not seeing each other again. I’ll recommend that you should listen to the full song. Suneohair sang this as well as the first ending theme of the series, entitled Waltz.
