On 15th May, I celebrated Metanorn’s Third Anniversary and looked back to a lot of fun that has been had and so much more in store!
Three yummilicious delicacies symbolizing three years of continued awesomeness that is METANORN. As I’m on a no-carb diet, these delicacies went into the tummies of my office colleagues rather than mine, who were very happy in getting rewarded for ‘working hard’. Hehh, if only they knew… but anyways, it has been more than 14months since I started aniblogging among which I’ve almost spent 100 days either reading manga or watching anime. If someone asks me which otaku stage I am in, I would simply reply with number 9 and don’t worry, my distance from stage 10 is still pretty far. I take every new anime with a grain of salt so getting tired is not going to happen. Burnout?! Pfft!
Usually when you have done something big, you think back and observe all the good times and memories. And this feeling actually gave way to another idea (of the many that I come up with for Metanorn), of the “Time Capsule” Project. The oldschool definition of such a project is something that is done as a collective for a class/school. A teacher or prefect leads this by taking a medium sized container (maybe made of wood or even a mini suitcase), to collect letters, drawings, creations, slips, embroidery, etc. from the students of that specific class/school and shuts all of it into the selected container and bury/lock it away for some time. Usually, the school/class opens it after 5 or 10 years.
Of course, aniblogging life is not akin to school term, rather I should say if a human life was to be compared with the an aniblog life, one year should equal to three human years, which means Metanorn would be soon entering the teen years. PUBERTY! FFFF— *stops to breath in and out* So, rather than stretching the project, I’ve decided to make it a yearly activity. Every current team member will submits a post, a letter, drawing, anything that can be associated with a memory form (maybe individual goals, some silly secret, a troll, fanart, fanfic, etc.), which can be digitally stored and locked in a virtual folder to be kept by a secret keeper. You can obviously guess the secret keepers of Metanorn, who will collect the trinkets from every author and reveal it next year on the celebration of fourth anniversary.
But that’s for next year and this year, I have plans of going down the memory lane. It will be almost a year in June since my full takeover of Metanorn after the founders left but I owe it to Kanzie and Tsui in remembering the good ol’ times. So, I trawled Metanorn and I mean it when I say it. It’s not easy going through 180 something pages but somehow I did and I found some gems that I will be featuring below:
Kanzie regretted writing that amateurish first post on her 500th milestone (Who can blame her? Every aniblogger’s first post is embarrassing and pretty amateurish. >///<):
The first ever post in here… Which is, I must admit, a very very VERY embarrassing thing to share because (besides from the MiXeD cApS title, which is now I totally find uncool), sharing this old post to the present is like sharing your baby photos, you know.. So way back before, this blog was created out of randomness by a bored lass. And while I re-read it again, I lol’d at how bitchy I was (and hell nobody didn’t even cared to comment on my first post T__T), and gave myself a sigh of relief on how much I improved and became real nice(???) now and harmless (so you can now call me a HBIC – Hidden Bitch in a Closet /just kidding XDDD!).
Anime NTM was quite a hit. Do you guys want this to be revived? Tsui soon joined Kanzie, his entrance being quite hilarious and the chemistry these two built was always laugh-producing. Tsui was the quite type while Kanzie, hyper and their tag-teaming was brilliant just because. Some quick links to some of their hilarity:
There was a time that I reviewed four shows but of course, there’s a limit to what a lone aniblogger could do and that is when I decided to team up and Metanorn has had a slew of writers since then; some of whom stuck around while some did their stint and left for other things. As I started with Durarara!!, the old team too had some interesting beginning:

Coming to some achievements, our 3M hits was quite epic, not to mention the giant Fall Review, which got a lot of viewing but not more than the Spring review, which just broke almost every comment/viewing records. Not to mention, we haven’t lost one single day of posting since 26th of July, 2010! And I hope, we can continue this trend for many years to come!
On personal goals, I can easily say that there have been no downers or joykillers per say. Whatever I have reviewed throughout last year and more; I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. From finishing Durarara!!, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Kimi ni Todoke, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, Occult Academy, Kimi ni Todoke S2, Kuragehime and Level E to writing about Wincest, Best of 2010, Aniblogging Habitat, Met’Amour, I kept on struggling to shine and will continue doing so.
Like I mentioned in our Anniversary Podcast, the roots were always strong and I see nothing but up from here. I will keep on improving and introducing new content to Metanorn, not just this anniversary but beyond that.
