Spring Anime Catalogue 2015

Spring15-mainimage

Welcome to METANORN’s Spring Anime Catalogue of 2015!

Holy crap, where did the last season go? I swear it felt like I just moved but the season is already changing and even when it’s nice spring flowers for most of you, I’m moving towards Winter but it should be all good. Spring Anime season however is usually as strong as Fall and there are some nice contenders like Fate/stay night: UBW and Gintama continuation (which is ALWAYS good), along with Shokugeki no Souma, Yamada-kun, Sidonia and maybe another nice instalment from MAPPA in Punch Line? Let’s see how the onslaught of new shows fair in sampling.
Hoorraaay Spring is here which means it’s once again time for a new season of fresh anime and for once we only have to worry about Assassination Classroom continuing on through the next season, but I will be honest and say that I am somewhat sad that there are no mechs besides Sidonia for a long time! Ah well I guess I can always look forward to more Gundam Origin OVAs in the future huh? Anyway this season looks fantastic with the likes of Gintama, Punch Line, Gunslinger Stratos, Food Wars, Yamada and the Seven Witches, Show By Rock, Houkago no Pleiades and High School DxD BorN! Yeah as usual I will probably try a lot of different series.
Holy LOLi! It’s finally Spring! And like most new seasons, the anticipation is high. It looks like we’ve got a well rounded batch of shows, with genre’s to please nearly anyone’s palate. There are quite a few interesting science fiction themed shows with Gunslinger Stratos and Plastic Memories , as well as fantasy style series with Dungeon ni and Yamada-kun looking like fun contenders. Toss in some drama, and magical girls, along with vampires, and food wars, and slice of life, there should be more than enough to keep us busy and happy til Summer….And yay, with this Seasonal Catalog, I’ve done a full years worth of duties here at Metanorn.
winter15-sumaSpring is here! Now, I admit I haven’t exactly been very active throughout the Winter season. But hopefully I will have more time to cover shows this time around. Anyway, this being one of the bigger seasons of the year, we can expect a packed schedule. From anticipated sequels and continuations for shows like Fate/Stay Night, High School DxD, Gintama, and even Nanoha to exciting new series like Food Wars and Yamada and the Seven Witches, there is sure to be something for everyone!
I’m a little afraid to get too excited about the upcoming season. There are shows that look good, but I feel like so many of them could go wrong. I was excited for Shokugeki no Soma…until I heard it was being animated by JC Staff. I want to be happy for more Fate/Stay Night but the first half of it was so miserably boring that I ended up only watching for the animation. Ninja Slayer also looks wonderfully fun, but it has a risk of wearing thin because of the inherently cheesy nature of the concept. But hey, anything could happen out there so we’ll have to wait and see!
I’m making MetaVerse a weekly podcast for the Spring ’15 season as myself and one co-host from the team will recap the week in anime with news and views on current episodes and extra discussion on anime; in essence, this replaces the mini-talks Fosh & I have done in past seasons while having more personalities appear and discussing more anime. This season is looking nice with a lot of great-looking shows across the spectrum; quite a few sequels of popular shows and some new adaptations that look nice. I’ve read Shokugeki no Soma and Triage X long before they reached this point, so I’m hopeful that they’re fun shows that we all can enjoy in the anime medium as I have in manga form.
Another spring season, another season of Utapri. Will it go full on BL this time? Time will tell… Well, I’m not overly interested in anything yet (I plan on just taking it easy and following other people’s recommendations this season), but things seem varied enough this season. Plus if all else fails, there’s always Fate/Stay.
To be honest, I’m way too excited for Fall season to be excited for super excited for Spring, but there’s still some promising series I’m looking forward to! I know Yamada and the Seven Witches is going to be a wacky ride from binge-reading the series a year ago, and of course Sidonia’s second season will provide some great mecha action. As for new series, Ore Monogatari and Seraph of the End are grabbing the most of my attention, though how long will a shoujo and a fantasy about evil vampires keep me entertained…?
It’s time for Spring! And while people say that Spring is generally the best anime season, this spring has to make up for last spring, which was generally underwhelming. More than that, we’re coming off a Winter that was just tremendous, so this Spring has a lot to live up to. There’s certainly things that look like fun, and at least I didn’t see 4 YoshiMatsu harem animes (yet). I guess he knows better than to go up against Issei Hyoudou!

Now that you have heard from the team, enjoy our list meticulously categorised for your viewing pleasure. Much appreciation for the Metanorn Team members, who took time to compile this list and a big shoutout to the Metanorn community, who are awesome as always.

Kyaaaaaaahh!! Where has this post been hiding?! I wouldn’t have been able to wait much longer! I was about to burst! Quite a list we have here for Spring 2015. Despite a few good titles to its defense, I’d say this easily outclasses Winter 2015’s line-up and is the best season of the year so far. A whopping 20 animes on my list. Now this feels like my regular streak resuming after being disrupted by last season’s low count. I’m particularly happy as my top three anticipated are among the first bunch to start everything off.

    High (Definitely Watching):
Seraph of the End (Owari no Seraph)
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2nd Half)
    Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen)

    Moderate:
    Arslan Senki
    Digimon Adventure tri
    High School DxD BorN
Koukaku Kidoutai Arise (Ghost in the Shell Arise): Alternative Architecture
    Kyoukai no Rinne
    Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku
    Shokugeki no Souma
Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine (Sidonia no Kishi: Daikyuu Wakusei Seneki)
    Triage X
    Yamadakun to Nananin no Majo

    Low (Possible Drop):
    Denpa Kyoushi
Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka?
    Grisaia no Rakuen
    Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation
    Plastic Memories
    Punch Line
    Re-Kan!

Seraph of the End (Owari no Seraph): My most anticipated Spring series that even Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works has no choice but to take second place. Words hardly how overjoyed I am to see this getting adapted. The first time I came across the manga was when it began in 2012 with only one chapter available that immediately had me hooked. Upon seeing the ANN article at the end of Summer 2014 stating an adaptation was in the works, it didn’t take me long to go back and see 19 additional chapters came in, making a total of 20. Moreover, 10 more chapters came in recently, sending the total to 30. Reasons to watch: Animation by WIT STUDIO with OP/ED/OST by Hiroyuki Sawano (The Attack on Titan collaboration), story by Takaya Kagami (Creator behind the manga and anime versions of Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi), vampires (Obviously!), split cour format (Meaning more fun for Fall 2015), a star-studded cast and cool uniforms on both the human and vampire sides. I’m very serious on the last part, they look absolutely awesome. Even in battle, these people know how to dress. The best and most interesting part is creator Takaya Kagami’s direct involvement in the series, drafting future parts of the story not yet serialized in the manga, supervising the script in all aspects until the anime’s 24th and final episode. Hiroshi Seko (episode scripts for Attack on Titan, Terror in Resonance a.k.a Zankyou no Terror), the writer credited with series script composition, is personally writing every episode’s script himself, with no other scriptwriter in the credits. An added bonus is that it will air on the weekends which is perfect. First I had Strike Fridays (Strike the Blood), now it will be Seraph Saturdays! Karakuri possibly blogging is icing on the massive cake but I can also see Overcooled joining in for an epic Tag Team.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works: More Fate related material, especially more Rin Tohsaka is always welcome. Plus I’m itching to see what happens after the first half’s cliffhanger. That Caster tramp needs to go down hard for snatching Saber away. It’s about time the Type-Moon meetings were back on track, Kyokai!! 😉

Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen): Another title I’ve come across in manga form some time ago prior to its anime adaptation announcement. I read as far as the first chapter that was fairly intriguing based on the world it presented but didn’t press on after finding out an anime original character was joining the cast. So for the sake of not having my enjoyment botched in any way, I decided to halt everything right there. Going by the PV, Kekkai Sensen looks to be quite a ride bursting with energy and the animation looks amazing.

High School DxD BorN: The harem king and his lovely assortment of demon girls are back for round three. Wow, three seasons within five years. Goes to show how popular the franchise is. But after the challenge Shinmai Maou no Testament issued in Winter, Issei better raise the stakes.

Koukaku Kidoutai Arise (Ghost in the Shell Arise): Alternative Architecture: I’ve generated interest in this for some time but never found a proper outlet to download it. Hearing that it’ll be separated piece by piece into a TV anime series, it’ll be a much easier access.

This post has been in making for quite a while but the final push was this weekend, which I spent only on graphics. Oh yes, that was srs bsns yo!

Really happy to have UBW back and I’ve been hearing heaps about Seraph and Kekkai Sensen so it should be awesome. The numbers of releases alone are staggering, but let’s see how the season keeps up on quality.

    • Irenesharda says:

Our definite lists look similar though I switched out Fate S/N for Arslan and also added in Sidonia and Digimon. I got to about episode 5 or 6 of the first season of F S/N and never caught up with it. Maybe one day I’ll come back to it, but nothing’s really pressing me to as of yet.

Have you seen the older version of Arslan? You might like it.
I’m excited for Seraph, and I’m hoping for Kensho Ono’s character to get a better deal than he got in Aldnoah. Zero (Ugh…). i don’t like to read the manga before I watch the anime if I can at all help it, so I’m coming into this series absolutely blind. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint. 😀

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

You will finish FSN:UBW. Gilgamesh demands it of you!

        • Irenesharda says:

It fell into that category of show where I didn’t mean to drop it, but I ended up missing episodes, and just haven’t had the unction to go back to it yet.

It’s joined by other pretty good shows like Garo, Kill la Kill, and Nagi no Asukara. In my On-Hold section.

          • Kyokai says:

Second season should blow you away with how things will go. I remember you were on to some clues so you should definitely close this chapter in time! 😉

          • BlackBriar says:

It’s joined by other pretty good shows like Garo, Kill la Kill, and Nagi no Asukara. In my On-Hold section.

Whoa! Then you’d better step to it, and quick. Nagi no Asukara and Kill la Kill ended with Winter 2014. That’s a year ago now and they were both two-cours that began Fall 2013! Moreover, Kill la Kill already has an English dub and it’s been playing on Toonami recently.

            • Irenesharda says:

I know, I know. Sigh, and I’m practically done with more than half of both series too, I just never caught up for some reason, and there is always a new season coming up that I just don’t get to it.
I put HxH on hold even though I only have 3 episodes left! One day I’m going to really tackle my on hold list.

            • Irenesharda says:

Catching up on Kill la Kill now. HOW THE HECK DID I LET THIS GO FOR SO LONG?! I’m up to episode 18, and I can’t believe how awesome this is! 😀

            • JPNIgor says:

Love it. And love Trigger as well. Come back for Ninja Slayer.

            • BlackBriar says:

Ahhhh…. Now you fully realize what you’ve missing out on. Kill la Kill is such an awesome anime to watch. It’s glorious! You should be reprimanding yourself for leaving such a show in hiatus for so long. 😉

            • skylion says:

              ::dispatches a REVOCS team::

            • Irenesharda says:

Ahh, finished it. That was really good, and really unique. I still can’t get over such a wacky idea: alien clothing that are trying to take over the world? Well, you can’t get anymore out there than that. I loved how it ended with our two main girls too.

I can’t believe that I let this sit for so long. *hangs head in shame*

I will never look at my clothes the same way again. *watches out for REVOCs squads*

            • skylion says:

..it was the show we both needed and deserved!

    • Foshizzel says:

      Low (Possible Drop):
      Punch Line

I don’t think you will drop that if anything I bet after three episodes you will still be watching! Muhahah JK I guess over-the-top-Kill-La-Kill-WTF-insanity isn’t for everyone.

I was super damn excited for Seraph of the End and Kekkai Sensen until I saw they involved one of the most overused supernatural types of all time! VAMPIRES seriously there are other things they could use, but ill watch them anyway.

High School DxD BorN: Pssssssh DxD destroys anything Shin Maou no Testament can even attempt to do! The only thing they have going for that series is Maria everyone else is zzzzzzzzzz hell even the trap from DxD does more than Mio.

      • BlackBriar says:

Obviously you’ve forgotten my title that I wear with pride. You’d get death by a thousand cuts, a thousand times over for uttering such blasphemies!! Prepare yourself!!

High School DxD BorN: Pssssssh DxD destroys anything Shin Maou no Testament can even attempt to do! The only thing they have going for that series is Maria everyone else is zzzzzzzzzz hell even the trap from DxD does more than Mio.

The edge Shinmai Maou no Testament has over High School DxD is that it’s stronger in the department of lewdness. Issei has girls around him, that’s a fact, but none of them are his personal servants bound by contract. Basara has the privilege and engages himself in acts Issei can only dream of doing himself. And word of the LN readers is the lewdness increases as the story progresses. The second season is already set for Fall 2015.

        • Foshizzel says:

DxD Vs Shim Maou: I suppose but has he been in bed with two naked girls at once? I think not! I prefer the DxD Harem any day, but in the end both have their strong points and weak points in terms of lewdness.

        • Highway says:

Stronger in lewdness? DxD, which has always aired uncensored? DxD, which in the very first episode showed Issei’s twig and berries? DxD, which has girls of all sizes actively crawling in bed with Issei? I don’t want to give away spoilers for this season, but ShinMaou is a mere duke of some satellite country compared to the Emperor that is DxD.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Despite the fact that I am not really into DxD, the presence of Gasper keeps me interested. Does shinmaou have an equivalent?

      • Irenesharda says:

        But..but…but vampires are awesome. 🙁
Though, honestly, I wouldn’t mind a series about werewolves now and again. There are probably others, but the only one I remember is Wolf’s Rain and that was ages ago, and wasn’t really werewolves.

        • BlackBriar says:

          But..but…but vampires are awesome. 🙁

At least someone understands their awesomeness. *high five* We should stand together!

Not a bad idea on the werewolves but on the supernatural pyramid, vampires stand at the top and the other monsters are of the lesser section because they don’t have the former’s appeal and charisma which are dangerous weapons in their arsenal. Other monsters, people would run away in a heartbeat. With a vampire, you’d get drawn in against your better judgment.

          • Foshizzel says:

Nope Vampires are the lowest of the low! Id rather them be superpowered humans xD

            • skylion says:

              …So…Shinobu is low, is she?

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

You know you are on the losing side of a battle… currently it’s 4 vs 1… 😀

            • BlackBriar says:

Nice one, Fosh. As if riling me wasn’t bad enough, you’ve gone and angered the LOLi Defender. I’d head for the hills if I were you.

            • Irenesharda says:

Hey, I like superpowered humans too, though the last show they tried to do with them fell pretty flat. But vampires just have all the mystery and mythology that comes with them! It just gives it something extra that these are a whole other species(depending on your vampires) and they have this whole world and society alongside our own. Superpowered humans usually just share our same world.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

The numbers are definately not looking good for Fosh here…

            • Highway says:

He doesn’t need numbers, he’s got righteousness on his side.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

And BB would agree on this: So have we.

              So RIGHTEOUSNESS x1 vs RIGHTEOUSNESS x4 😛

            • skylion says:

Don’t pull me into the Vampire Court….I’m only here for the LOLi…..

            • Thorgriim says:

ive come to help The Skylion! Yeah! im on team shinobu!

            • skylion says:

              +1

            • akagami says:

              Another vote for Shinobu~

I’m indifferent towards vampires in general. I like them marginally more than werewolves. Demons are 100% cooler.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

A significant number of vampires were converted during LOLihood. Even if they are 500/495 years old.

            • Irenesharda says:

I’m not too fond of lolivamps since many lolis already act like they’re adults in kid bodies. The lolis I like most actually act like children.

However, I’m willing to look at it on a case by case basis. 😛

          • Irenesharda says:

It really depends on the mythological creature. I like worlds that combine them all: werewolves, vampires, fae, merpeople, it would be awesome!

            • Foshizzel says:

I like worlds that combine them all: werewolves, vampires, fae, merpeople, it would be awesome! Hell ya

            • skylion says:

              skylion’s are epic mounts!

            • Thorgriim says:

              what about unicorns?

            • skylion says:

              No Unicorns!

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

I prefer doragons as my mount. *smauglook*

But a skylolion is fine too.

            • BlackBriar says:

              @Fosh:

I like worlds that combine them all: werewolves, vampires, fae, merpeople, it would be awesome! Hell ya

Really? Yet you bailed on Strike the Blood as it was airing. Oh, the sheer contradiction in that statement of yours. *facepalms* 😉

            • Highway says:

Strike the Blood was bad. Here, I’ll write another 5 episode arc for Strike the Blood:

              1) Whatsisface the main character meets some new girl who looks like the girls they already have on the show.

              2) Someone shows up from some country they never mentioned before, saying they’re the ‘n’th-1 progenitor’s bowling ball shiner.

              3) Bowling Ball Shiner kidnaps new girl.

              4) MC goes to try to save the new girl, only to find himself thwarted by some awful monster he can’t defeat.

              5) Yukina says “No, this is OUR fight, sempai!”

              6) MC sucks new girl’s blood, gains new power that conveniently counters the awful monster he can’t defeat.

              7) Bowling ball shiner leaves in disgrace.

            • BlackBriar says:

*sigh* *facepalms* If you don’t like it, that’s your business. Everyone has their own likes or so you endeavor to keep reminding people.

            • Highway says:

I’m saying you can’t use it as a cudgel to beat on other people for inconsistency.

            • skylion says:

You forgot 8) New girl joins harem which inspires jealousy in all the other harem members.

              9) Status quo maintained until the conclusion of next arc.

  2. Irenesharda says:

Oh yeah! Thank goodness spring is finally here! (both naturally and in the anime world, because if you live in the Midwest like me, you’re pretty sick of winter too. 😛 )

So, away with the old and in with the new, all my shows for the fall have ended (some wonderfully and some horribly) so I’m excited for the new ones.

    My list so far:

    Definites:
Arslan Senki– I loved the original OVAs so much that I have them in my DVD collection, the story is right up my alley and the art was beautiful. My biggest problem was that they were too short! 🙁 I’ll be so happy to see the longer story play out here, and see how they translate the material. Some of the character designs have been questionable, especially in comparison to the original, but here’s hoping.

Digimon Adventure Tri.– Well, Digimon was practically my gateway drug to anime and was practically the first anime that I fully watched all the way through. However, as I only watched dubs then, so I’m sorry Japanese OP, but the classic orignal US version of the theme is going to play every time I watch it. Digimon’s just not complete without the, “Di-Di-Di Digi, Digi” 😛

Kekkai Sensen– looks interesting, and I liked Trigun for the most part, so it’ll be interesting seeing something from the same creator, though I prefer watching anime that takes place in the America with Western VAs over Japanese, we’ll see how they do.

Owari no Seraph– vampires, awesome soundtrack, awesome premise, great art? Sign me up. 😀

Sidonia no Kishi: Battle for Planet Nine– Sidonia was one of the best sci-fi mecha series in a long time, and the first season vastly out-shined any of the mecha series that came after it. I’ll be happy to wash the horrible taste of winter season’s vastly disappointing mecha out of my mouth.

    Maybes:
Vampire Holmes– it has vampires and mysteries which reminds me of my first vampire anime series, Nightwalker. However, its a short series, so I’m not so sure about quality or story here.

Shokugeki no Souma– there have been an influx of cooking animes recently, but this one looks interesting from what I’ve seen. I’m willing to give it the three-episode treatment and see where that takes me.

Gunslinger Stratos-animation and story sound okay, we’ll see what they can do.

Kyoukai no Rinne– Well, it’s been quite some time since I’ve seen any of Rumiko’s work as an anime on screen, Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2 being dear to my heart despite how repetitive and long they were. We’ll see what has been done here and how good of a story we’re going to get this time.

This season is looking good, lets see what anime will be great and what will fall by the waste side.

    • BlackBriar says:

Owari no Seraph– vampires, awesome soundtrack, awesome premise, great art? Sign me up. 😀

Well, I’ve found my partner in crime for the Spring season. Excellent!! And since I know you won’t touch Seraph of the End’s manga yet, I’ve got another recommendation ready: Bloody Cross. I suggest starting with Chapter 0.

      • Irenesharda says:

Is it going to have an anime adaptation soon? I know your ways now. 😉

I am determined to keep my mind as pure as I can, I have continued to resist reading Shingeki no Kyojin or Akatsuki no Yona knowing/hoping that there will be a second season. I will persevere! 😛

        • BlackBriar says:

Is it going to have an anime adaptation soon? I know your ways now. 😉

No, there’s absolutely no news on that, though Karakuri and I would love for it to happen as we’re both fans. My biggest hook is the lead girl Tsukimiya along with her “relationship” with her ally of convenience, Hinata. A shame it doesn’t have an anime adaptation yet. The manga has been ongoing since its release back in 2009.

          • Irenesharda says:

Hmm, reading its synopsis, I’m not so sure. I usually steer clear of the ones that want add angels and God into the mix directly, I’ll look at one chapter perhaps and see.

One series that I always wanted to see as a series is Noblesse. That would be really cool.

            • BlackBriar says:

One series that I always wanted to see as a series is Noblesse.

I’m aware of that one and have read its first chapter. But because of the webtoon-like format, its long vertical pages, I’m reluctant to continue.

            • Irenesharda says:

It’s actually pretty cool, especially as they get to reveal the plot piece by piece and the supporting characters. Though with it being a manhwa, I’m not sure of it’s chances. It has a pretty big fanbase though. Though it could be awesome if they actually made a series out of it.

        • BlackBriar says:

I have continued to resist reading Shingeki no Kyojin or Akatsuki no Yona knowing/hoping that there will be a second season.

Um… Just so you know, WIT Studio already has the second season of Shingeki no Kyojin planned for 2016. The info coincided with some older news of Seraph of the End because both are WIT Studio’s properties.

          • Irenesharda says:

Oh yeah, I know. That was the “knowing” part. Akatsuki no Yona is the “hoping” part, and I’m hoping really hard for that! 🙁

But yeah, it’s going to be awesome. They forgot to list the second half of Levi’s OVA was coming out this season, so that should be good as well.

            • Kyokai says:

Btw, Levi OVA is listed under the Round Up section. It was skipped because we previously covered.

            • Irenesharda says:

Yeah, I saw it later as I started to go through some of the smaller sections. 🙂
Of all the OVAs and specials that Shingeki has done, its one of the best I’ve seen so far. It tides you over until the next season, especially for those of us who refuse to read the manga.

          • Foshizzel says:

WIT Studio did Rolling Girls and that is “crap” according to fans so yeaaaaah IMO WIT Studio is great and I love whatever they work on, but even they are capable of creating meh anime.

            • Irenesharda says:

Well, you know that some studios put more money towards some projects than others. I thought Rolling Girls was fine animation wise, not their best work, but still good. They were probably saving for this project.

            • BlackBriar says:

Funny that came up. skylion said on one of the Rolling Girls posts, episode 9 I believe, that the animation was probably reduced because the budget was being saved for Seraph of the End.

            • skylion says:

              Oh, I didn’t just say….I Ranted!

      • Foshizzel says:

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww x100 VAMPIRES they are BORRRRING for me >.<

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

BB, ve shall havz to turnz zis one into vun of uz. >:D

        • BlackBriar says:

Heretic! Blasphemer! You disappoint me… 😉

        • Irenesharda says:

How?! How are vampires boring? Unless you’re talking about those sparkling “vampire” knock-offs… 😛

          • BlackBriar says:

Well, I will say Dakota Fanning’s character stood out. That was the closest that series ever got to the real thing. She was creepy as hell with blood red eyes giving a stare as though she’s peering into your soul.

            • Irenesharda says:

That’s because, at the time, Dakota Fanning was creepy period in almost all her roles. She always seemed like an adult in a child’s body, especially the way she looked at you.

          • Foshizzel says:

Well when every other season of anime has some sort of Vampire type they get overused and overplayed! I mean is it really that hard to use some other supernatural character type? I mean sure Zombies as of late have come back in TV/Movies/Videogames but not in the world of anime…then again most people think Zombies are also overused and they are technically brainless so you can’t do a whole lot with them unless you go Kore wa zombie/Sankarea by allowing them to talk and move around like normal people.

I do however LOVEEEE Hellsing! Why can’t we get more Vamps like him? Aka the ones that CAN NOT walk in the daylight and have to feed on blood to survive? Also Shiki was great on all things vampire as well.

            • Irenesharda says:

Well, I don’t mind vampires that can’t walk out in the day, in fact, most can’t in most iterations I look at. And if they can, I want a good reason.
Actually, despite Hellsing’s success, he’s a little too gory for me. I can only watch the abridged version of that series. (which is really good by the way) 😀

I find zombies disgusting and I leave series with them in it to my brother. There’s just something about vampires though that makes them better.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

My vampires walk in the day, love garlic pasta, wear crosses as cute jewelry and like to do a Free! as their sport. A stake in the heart practically kills anything.

            • Irenesharda says:

Oh, but then they’ll be basically just anemic superpowered humans. That’s not as awesome.
Their weaknesses give way to their mystery, culture, and myth, which to me is almost more important than their power. It’s the other side of the coin, the part of them that makes them unique.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              Homo Superior Vampira. 😛

            • Irenesharda says:

Considering the comics nowadays, you’re not quite that far off. I think the X-men have turned into vampires several times. I remember when Storm was one for a little bit, and I think Jubilee is one currently. So yeah, it can be done. It’s just not the same though. 🙂

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              Blood Storm.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Angsty teenage vampires are a disgrace to the name!

            • Foshizzel says:

              Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss fk those types.

            • BlackBriar says:

Pfftt, hahaha!! Vampire emotions are more potent than those of humans.

            • Irenesharda says:

Pfftt, hahaha!! Vampire emotions are more potent than those of humans.

Yes, because Edward Cullen expressed SO much emotion range. 😛
BB, don’t fight for the angsty teen “vamps”, they’re not worth it.

            • BlackBriar says:

Huh? Actually, I wasn’t referring to that. I mean, in general, they barely have any restraint on themselves.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

If Eddy were a real vampire, he’d just turn his lover without a second thought. Watch the HISHE version of the series. MUCH better.

    • Foshizzel says:

Arslan Senki: Yeah that looks great, but I got kinda burned out on “historical” themed anime after all the Nobunaga stuff last year! Yes there were like what four? I am currently stuck on episode 5/6 of Akatsuki no Yona which ill finish one of these days…

Digimon Adventure Tri: SAAAAME! I grew up on the original and LOVED that first movie cause it felt like Summer Wars which is also AAAWESSOMEEEE, but as far as the new one goes I will just watch and see how it goes.

Sidonia no Kishi: Battle for Planet Nine: YAAAAY!! At least we have one mecha to hold us over until we get that third season of Aquarion in the summer with Aquarion Logos which if you have not seen season one or the somewhat “newest” Aquarion EVOL, I highly recommend them both because they are a lot of fun! I guess EVOL and season one all felt like they pulled elements from TTGL+Star Driver+Valvrave+Eureka Seven+Code Geass and they tend to have lots of romantic pairings.

Shoukugeki no Souma: Yesah you might like that one I read some of the manga and the actual “battle” moments are very exciting! I have way more faith in JC staff than OC cause they have gotten a whole lot better in therms of production if you look at them now compared to the days of Shana.

Gunslinger Stratos: Let’s just hope UraButcher stays around for that instead of starting it and ditching it after three episodes, but from what I understand he is just the “planner” whatever the hell that means…

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Sidonia no Kishi: Battle for Planet Nine

The couldn’t use Planet Pluto as that would annoy the jackasses at the IAU.

      • Irenesharda says:

Never saw Aquarion, though most have cautioned me against it, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever check that out.

You must finish Akatsuki no Yona! That was the best anime of the season hands down. It really gets going after episode 7 and the dragon myth gets introduced. Even my brother loves that series, and I usually can’t get him near anything that’s related to shoujo. 😀

Yeah, I’ll have to see how this new series of Digimon is, but I’m hoping for the best.

Sidonia going to be great, that’s a given. Gunslinger Stratos will have to win me over though. I’m watching it on a trial basis.

    • Irenesharda says:

I think I’m going to add Oremonogatari to my list of Maybes as well. I like a good romance story, and once I read the synopsis, it looks interesting.

    • Irenesharda says:

Sigh, I guess I have to read over show summaries more carefully, as I just learned the hard way of Shokugeki no Souma’s ecchi elements.
Oh well, I put it on my “Maybe” column for a reason. One down, several to go.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

It is called learning by trial and error. For me it was because of limited data quotas in the past and now of limited time. I still make mistakes even after reading summaries. There really is no simple way.

    Copypaste from RC

New season is coming. With a lot of shows from Winter ending and only a handful of carryovers, I’ll be picking up a lot of titles. I counted 28 shows I’ll be watching next season. The ones I’m looking forward to the most are:

FSN UBW2: Doesn’t need anything else. Hyped for the continuation. Let’s hope it gets some coverage this time :))

Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatte Iru Darouka or just DanMachi: I blame Yen Press for the awful localized English title for this. It’s very misleading and even very far from the true meaning of the original title. It doesn’t help that sites like Crunchyroll and ANN keep using it.
Anyways, I love its setting. It’s a fantasy world but it consists of different RPG mechanics like Levels, Stat parameters(STR, AGI, DEX), Loots, Potions, etc. Bell is an excellent protagonist. Naive but very kind-hearted and is very straightforward. I can pretty much see why they picked Matsuoka to voice him even though he’s not my first choice. And Hestia is love, Hestia is life. You can’t go wrong with an oppai loli goddess. I liked what I saw in the preview so my expectations are high.

Shokugeki no Souma: Started the manga when it just started getting serialized. It’s a cooking battle manga no doubt but it’s an enjoyable read. Lots of food porn with a dash of softcore fanservice from the reactions of people eating the food. Combined with the excellent art of Tosh and it’s a feast in the eyes. It also has a great ensemble of characters, with the main character Souma being the best one. And of course the neverending debate on who is the best girl, Megumi or Erina. Both sides will surely garner more fans. Pretty excited for this.

DxD B(utt)orN(ipples): That PV#2, nuff said. Props to Kaji Yuki for singing that so well. And the material it will cover assuming it will still do 2 volumes per season will be a blast. I can already hear Kaji Yuki’s enraged voice in the climax of the story.

Oregairu 2: Brain’s Base’s curse of not doing sequels beside Natsume rings true as we get Studio Feel for this but aside from that, a definite must watch sequel. More 8man, Yukinoshita and Yuigahama, and a new girl that may or may not win some fans. Need to finish volume 9 before it starts.

Other shows that I’ll be watching:
    Arslan Senki
    Baby Steps 2
    Grisaia no Rakuen
    Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
    Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic
    Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku
    Hibike! Euphonium
    Triage X
    Ore Monogatari!!
    Ninja Slayer From Animation
    Punch Line
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken 2 Sure-me
    Re-Kan!
    Nisekoi:
    Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu
Sidonia no Kishi: Dai-kyuu Wakusei Sen-eki
    Kyoukai no RINNE
    Denpa Kyoushi
    Owari no Seraph
    Gunslinger Stratos The Animation
    Plastic Memories
    Kekkai Sensen

Picking up too much, time management, no life, etc.

    • skylion says:

That’s why I just end up calling it Dungeon. I will probably use the full title as a header for posts, but will, more than likely, use DanMachi to refer to it once the season get’s into swing. It’s a great premise, I agree.

We were talking up Attack on Food during our Winter of our Content MV podcast. It’s very much a show to look forward to.

…and that is a nice list of shows to follow. I should be seeing you for Plastic Memories, Nagato, and Hibike!. Plus I may even do something with the “no one wants these LOLis” shows just for pure spite…

    • Kyokai says:

Type-Moon stuff is always welcome! The problem with first season was is that I was preparing to move at that time, busy in packing and exchange rates! >>; I’m settled now so it should be good.

Souma and Yamada-kun were two mangas that I was following before the anime announcement so they would definitely be a treat. Giving voice to the characters who are quite entertaining.

The season is quite packed and most probably I won’t be checking out too many titles but let’s see!

    • Foshizzel says:

Oregairu 2: I wasn’t generally a fan of season one due to me finding it extremely tough to connect to a character Hachiman Hikigaya because I am a very happy person and Hachiman HATES everything! Being that kind of person would drain me so fast…I’d still prefer Haganai/Boku wa Tomadachi over Oregairu any day! That said I am obligated to watch cause I think my brother is a fan and we watch anime together.

Other shows that I’ll be watching: FK YA that list! Cause Punch Line yoooooooooooooooooo!

      • skylion says:

I would have to agree, SNAFU is a hard sell. The less Hachiman the better. Unless they are able to give him an actual development arc that fits his character.

        • BlackBriar says:

Actually, Hachiman was the main reason I abandoned SNAFU. The unimpressive story aside, I found him so irritating I dropped it after the first season’s second episode.

          • JPNIgor says:

I’m feeling so bad being around people so happy right now hahaha As I’m watching it, I can’t help but connect with Hachiman and half-heartedly agree with every one of his quotable phrases because I had similar experiences that ended with similar results as his.

The only thing that ticks me off about him is that he would rather be drooling over Totsuka’s smile than having an extended conversation with Yuigahama.

  4. BlackBriar says:

    @Fosh:

but I will be honest and say that I am somewhat sad that there are no mechs besides Sidonia for a long time!

We had an overload of mecha during the past two seasons. A total of 4 mecha anme (1 you guys dropped on the Mechanorn posts) Suffice to say they’ve earned a cool-down period for the time being.

    @skylion:

And yay, with this Seasonal Catalog, I’ve done a full years’ worth of duties here at Metanorn.

The Fresh Meat has become the not so Fresh Meat. 😉

    • skylion says:

Oh, but I hope to never be stale…

Meanwhile, the ecchi train keeps plowing into the Spring, along with it’s ever present romance bumper car/roller coaster cousin…

    • Irenesharda says:

We had an overload of mecha during the past two seasons. A total of 4 mecha anme (1 you guys dropped on the Mechanorn posts) Suffice to say they’ve earned a cool-down period for the time being.

And at least half of those mecha were crap though. 🙁
Well, this time we at least will get a good one instead. I love Sidonia, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next, especially since we won’t get the next part to Gundam Origin until next fall.

      • Foshizzel says:

You should watch Gundam Build Fighters TRY cause its AAAAAWSOME and blows the other failed mecha out of the water IMO even Aldnoah.Zero…

        • Irenesharda says:

I heard it had a bad ending though? Though I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt. Aldnoah and G-reco had crappy endings, Aldnoah’s was so bad, I can’t stand the series anymore. I don’t know how Fafner or Ange ended either since I didn’t watch or dropped those.

However, I’m still thinking that Sidonia will be better than all those.

          • Foshizzel says:

Build Fighters or Aldnoah? I know Aldnoah had one of the worst endings and I think there is a slight possibility that they might make a third season! G-reco I finished and I am still confused on what it was even about…

As far as Aquarion goes I guess you can listen to others but most mecha fans enjoyed that even though it becomes a bit wacky and silly later on.

Sidonia yeah it should because it has better characters and a easy to follow plot.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Aldnoah’s ending was basically a copeout given how batshit things were spiraling out of control. It was building up fine. More ranting and raving in Mechanorn.

            • Irenesharda says:

I heard Build Fighters had a bad ending, but that was hearsay. I KNOW Aldnoah had a horrible ending. You know it’s horrible when MAL, 4chan, and Animesuki all agree that it was pretty bad. It would take a miracle for me to watch the 3rd season if they have one.

G-reco was just ridiculous all the way through, so it made sense that the ending would also not make sense.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

You know Urobutcher did not write the ending. Because if he did, the rest of the moon would rain down on Earth. Inaho and Slaine would duke it to the death and Assyleum would be dead. And Shinto would be in flames and innundated in mud. Oops, last one was wrong show.

Even Gargantia had a better ending. Aldnoah’s ending basically pooped on the building up although it was obviously coming when they introduced Cruteo Jr. late in the series.

            • Irenesharda says:

They didn’t even have to introduce Klancain, his character was virtually pointless. For all the good he did to the plot, they could have combined his character Mazuurek’s and been done with it, but instead we have two characters that were barely useful.

I honestly would have liked the Urobutcher ending much better. I hate Asseylum so much. The only way I would watch a 3rd season is if Asseylum tries to go back to Vers only to find out that Lemrina took over the planet in her absence. Lemrina has Klancain killed and Asseylum imprisoned for the rest of her life, and sends Harklight to break her fiancee-to-be out of jail, and Slaine rejoins his princess on Mars to rule by her side. Maybe kill off Inaho during the prison break too, let’s just go nuts. 😀

            • Highway says:

A/Z had that ending for the first season, and you thought it would have a good ending for the second season? They treated the viewers like trash with the first one, how likely was it the final one would be roses?

            • Irenesharda says:

But I liked the first season ending! I just wish they had just followed through with it. It would have miles better if they had gotten rid of those two then.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

The first season ending was good – a cliffhanger.

The first episode of second season ruined it. Then for 10 episodes things were more or less building up despite the revelations of S2E1. The ending WAS building up to a point where things still could go batshit. Then IT happened. -__- The last third of the episode fucked up.

you thought it would have a good ending for the second season? They treated the viewers like trash with the first one, how likely was it the final one would be roses?

Like Cross Ange, you can still hope things would improve.

I honestly would have liked *snippitysnipsnip* Maybe kill off Inaho during the prison break too, let’s just go nuts

I like your style. Something I would have thought of as well. Let’s put it this way, Asseylum is too naive to be a ruler. Even Saber is not as naive. Aoi-Saber that is. Aka-Saber is on a differnt level.

*bookmarks this particular thread for mechanorn reference later*

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Spammy ate a post about here…

            • Kyokai says:

Rescued! Spammy is having a feast today…

            • Irenesharda says:

We shall go over this more in Mechanorn, but yes, it’s really that last third that kills the whole thing. I didn’t like the entire episode, but especially that last third.

    • Foshizzel says:

We will have our final MechaNORN coming soon! We were waiting on the final episode of Gundam Build Fighters TRY to wrap up all the mecha in one most, but Highway has a special post for Ange coming later cause he wanted to defend er talk about it LOL.

      I don’t mind an overload of Mecha <3 <3 <3

      • BlackBriar says:

I don’t mind an overload of Mecha

Just like I won’t mind an overload of vampire related material. Seraph of the End is a split cour so Spring and Fall are covered but there’s a vampire rom-com set for Summer to bridge the gap. Oh, I’m going to be spoiled rotten. YES!!! 😀

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

I’ve just read the last episode of Cross Ange and will say what I have to say in MechaNorn.

Regrettably, both ended in an unsatisfied manner.

      • Highway says:

Yeah, I’m stuffing Fosh in a closet to do a post on Cross Ange.

        • BlackBriar says:

I never thought I’d read such obvious backstabbing just to get ahead. Things are getting dangerous. 😀

          • skylion says:

You must take this with a grain of salt. There wasn’t all that much stuffing really. Practically no closet either…

  5. zztop says:

    Some comments on Spring’s shows:

1)Gintama: More toilet humour! More blatant parodies of other manga! More Katsura-I mean Zura!

2)Dungeon: The source LNs have been picked up for an official English translation by Yen Press. Vol 1 is out already. Vol 2 comes this April (I think).
Also, the Japanese title more accurately translates as “Is it Wrong to Want to Meet You in a Dungeon?”

3)Rinne: Rinne airs on evening primetime hours in Japan, so most likely it’ll be a family show. I’m guessing nothing too funky/sexual/otaku-ish will be in it. Shame, because sometimes the good stuff comes from there. Just ask Cross Ange.

4)Souma: I hear the artist used to draw hentai. That’s why the ecchi looks so good.

OVAs: Did anyone watch the Free! Eternal Summer OVA yet?

    • skylion says:

      1) Oh I love good clean dirty fun…
      2) Ah, I will check my local stores…always good to get your brick and mortar establishments involved.

    • Foshizzel says:

      1) FK YA

      2) Looks like a better SAO

      3) Less sexual? I dunno it is from Ranma 1/2 creator fufufuf

      4) You would be surprised how that happens to a lot of anime! The same is true for Gargantia <3

      OVA: Nope but I will.

    • Kyokai says:

Zura ja nai, Katsura da!!! I love Gintama to bits. Been reading the manga lately and nothing can compre to its brilliance.

    • d-LaN says:

      3) Lol, I would never have guessed that Cross Ange run at primetime hours. That Sunrise for ya 😛

      • zztop says:

I meant sometimes the good stuff in anime is due to the funky/sexual stuff, like in Cross Ange.
Cross Ange airs late at night! (><)

        • BlackBriar says:

After everything I’ve seen, I can understand why that choice was made.

  6. bobob101 says:

Two things: One, JoJo is also a continuing series from the winter season. And two is Ninja Slayer really shoujo ai?!? That kinda blows my mind if its true.

Honestly, there seems to be a LOT of stuff this season I will in no way be watching. What a shame.

    • skylion says:

Well, what will you be watching?

      • bobob101 says:

        Definitely:
Oregairu zoku (# 2 Seed); Gintama (# 1 seed); Ninja Slayer; Fate; Soma; Sidonia; JoJo (A GoGo)

Trying out: Plastic Memories; Arslan; Gunslinger; Blood Blockade; Seraph; Yuki Chan (I am very back and forth on Haruhi as a franchise)

I feel that is as good a mix as any.

        • skylion says:

I like the definite list, A Go Go. I’ll even be trying out Gintama; hopefully someone here covers it week to week and helps me catch up as this will be my proverbial toe in the dip.

I’ll be there for all the Trying out list; and like Highway says of Arslan, I hope it’s more like Yona than it seems. So I hope I can give reason to stick arounf for a few of the shows. Plastic Memories is one I will definitely cover.

          • BlackBriar says:

You may be biting off more than you can chew. Like Fairy Tail that resumed Spring 2014 after 175 episodes, this is the continuation of a long running series. The original Gintama has a total of 201 episodes. Aired from April 4th, 2006 to March 25th, 2010.

            • skylion says:

I’m a good swimmer, so to speak, I don’t mind the deep end.

            • Kyokai says:

Let me correct you here, Gintama doesn’t only have 201 episodes rather after the first season, second season had 51 episodes and third, 13 more. Thus, minus the Specials/OVAs/Movies and such, Gintama has 265 episodes to-date.

@Sky, you better commit for the full thing or else you will miss a lot of references in the current episode if you just directly dive in the fourth season.

            • skylion says:

Well, considering that I stalled not even midway with a two cour Durarararara….

            • Kyokai says:

Pretty sure you have a death wish…

            • BlackBriar says:

Divine punishment to the heretic who hasn’t finished the first season of Durarara!!

          • skylion says:

            I’m agnostic to such things…

    • Foshizzel says:

As far as I know just Assassination Classroom is continuing through the spring season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jojo keeps going!

      • BlackBriar says:

Yeah, Assassination Classroom is 22 episodes long. Jojo is unconfirmed though I don’t watch it. I just gather information from MAL.

    • Kyokai says:

ANN has 13 episodes listed for Egypt arc and nothing on MAL either so the reason, it isn’t up there. There was miss-paste on Ninja, which has been fixed.

  7. zztop says:

I heard Souma’s artist used to draw hentai manga; maybe that’s why the ecchi looks so nice.

    • bobob101 says:

Yeah, I heard that story to. I was trying to find out what it was for *Research* purposes. Couldn’t find any clues though. I doubt Jump would want the world to know what porn their mangaka’s used to make though.

    • BlackBriar says:

That isn’t much of a surprise hearing someone of that area going mainstream. We’ve already had mainstream seiyuus crossing into hentai territory voicing their characters. Yuu Asakawa (Akame ga Kill’s Leone) in Viper GTS. Takahiro Mizushima and Hitomi Nabatame (Haruki Kitahara and Kazusa Touma of White Album 2) in Harukoi Otome.

      • Bobob101 says:

There are also as ton of VAs who use fake names when they perform in hentai. I’m pretty sure Norio Wakamoto was in legend of the over fiend

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Though in recent years they’ve been trending to use their real names. Sakibara Yui comes to bind.

        • Foshizzel says:

I bet some light Novel writers/Manga creators do the same thing id imagine! I guess it comes with the biz.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

            Not exactly.

            Noizi Itou – HCG illustrator.
Kamiya Yuu – Hentai illustrator, there exists NGNL hentai done by him.
Kantoku – Does Hentai and pure stuff.

  8. JPNIgor says:

Aww damn, I did this list for Metateam application, so I’m kinda lazy to do it now D=

So, Hibike! Euphonium is by KyoAni, I didn’t know about that, and I didn’t expect them to come back to the musical themes, but again, it’s a different type of music, and if there really are guys to make some drama and romance happen, that’s going to be really welcome. Tamako Love Story was just so good with KyoAni putting the romance forward, I just want to see more.

And really? Are they really going to follow the same path with Rakuen that they did with Kajitsu? And if Meikyuu is the same, oh damn… I really hope they are not doing it again.

Poor Xebec, earning Metateam’s hate D= I don’t hold them so high, but not so low either, I loved Nyaruko-san after all. I was hoping Fosh would have some say about it as well =P Let’s see at ANN… Hm… A lot of in-between animations… Oh, they actually made Upotte, and two movies of Pokémon (what, seriously?) and that awesome Origins special where the Pokémons don’t speak their names… Wow, that’s actually awesome. But yeah, if it’s a bunch of huge tits swinging around in CG, I couldn’t care less. I’m on skylion’s Chippai team.

About Gunslinger Stratos, I really can’t expect something nearly as good as Bahamut. It’s too optimistic, specially when it’s A-1 we’re talking about. Their novel adaptations are usually not well received, and I’ve been watching their Persona 3 trilogy, and so far it’s been subpar. Even though they have three movies, they are really skipping a lot of things.

So, after taking a look at the catalogue, I’ll have to add Etotama as well. These zodiac representations with “-tan” at the end of all of their names is just too silly to miss.

Nisekoi and Ore Monogatari on the very same anime season is something I really didn’t expect. I’m hoping that they will make an OVA with the crossover of the two series they made on the manga.

And woooooow! SNAFU is looking so good *-* I’m really looking forward for it right now. Add it’s already good and hilarious story with a good animation and I can’t help but love it.

    • d-LaN says:

Their novel adaptations are usually not well received

I thought Saekano and Nanana was pretty well received generally? And there also Shigatsu as well.

But I certainly don’t expect Gunslinger Stratos to be next masterpiece though. But hopefully its on the level of Z/X Ignition and WIXOSS at least.

And yeah, despite all the outrage that feel. is doing the animation for Oregairu Zoku instead of Brain Base, the quality in the PV looks better than S1 quality IMO. So far anyway.

      • JPNIgor says:

Well, those are mostly exceptions. I’m talking mostly about SAO here… And Shigatsu is a damn manga, and they surely hit the spot with that one, I’ve gotta admit.

feel. isn’t exactly known for poor animation. I actually find their recent works quite nice animation-wise, with Locodol, Jinsei, Mayo Chiki and PapaKiki. I think what they were missing in these shows. To me, the biggest flaws from Oregairu were the poor animation and character design, and now that they swapped it, I see a much better work coming up.

        • JPNIgor says:

What they were missing in these shows… (continuing, ’cause I failed to continue my thoughts… haha) … were a properly compelling story and characters, which Oregairu has a lot.

          • d-LaN says:

Personally I would argue that Ushinawaretta Mirai wo Motomete have compelling plot and characters, but I seem to be the only one who liked that adaptation. (All dat Outbreak Company cameos)

In fact, a lot of butthurt over feel. seems to stem from Ushinawaretta because of the art style they use for it. (Which I honestly think its an OK take on the VN design) But I won’t deny that the QUALITY is pretty obvious at some points.

            • Highway says:

I almost wrote a wrap-up post for Ushinawareta, because I thought it might help figure out what my feelings for the show were. I didn’t think the anime was that bad, but it did feel a little disjointed. And I thought the art style was fine also. Unless your VN is really simple, you’re not going to match the art style of the CG parts of a VN in your anime adaptation. Not gonna happen, not with feel, not with Shaft, not with KyoAni. So that seemed like it was a red herring that people just used to beat on feel.

            • JPNIgor says:

You really should’ve done it. I would really like to know what kind of show it is, as the synopsis really put me off as some weirder version of Medaka Box (which I didn’t like as well).

I never expect character design from anime adaptation of VN to look like it’s VN counterpart. Actually a VN character design animated would look actually weird. But I do expect some level of fidelity. Like, Hachiman’s LN character design is changed drastically for the anime. That, I can’t appreciate. With the new character design I can’t even get why Yuigahama would like some guy like that.

            • d-LaN says:

              @Highway
I would like to see that write up for Ushinawaretta as well, but oh well.
Also, I think that A-1 have a better take on Kurehito Misaki designs for Saekano compare to feel. take, but its understandable that feel. just simply does not have the budget/manpower of A-1.

              @JPNIgor
Its not really like Medaka Box. Its part SF and part SOL/romcom.
What do you mean by “changed drastically”? I have a volume of Oregairu LN (volume 3) and anime Hachiman look more or less the same as his LN counterpart.

            • JPNIgor says:

Hmm… So I searched around for a side-to-side comparison and I found this:

              https://40.media.tumblr.com/7ae5de0a3f8cf5fe013cf11a79e4b454/tumblr_n7w7fv87tr1sajdvwo1_500.jpg

Volume 3 Hachiman here is a lot different than his anime counterpart imo. He has proper eyes and a decent expression. And look at volume 1 Hachiman. He’s actually handsome there.

            • Highway says:

I look at that and see that anime Hachiman is really close to ‘recent LN Hachiman’. If they’re going to base the anime character on someone, they’re going to do it on the later one, since that’s presumably what the author would want?

            • d-LaN says:

              @JPNIgor
Oh yeah, I forgot that Hachiman can apparently toggle his bishounen button on or off 😛 Still in the later volumes his eyes/appearance seems pretty consistent until the bishounen button is pressed again during climatic parts.

            • JPNIgor says:

Awww… But damn, appeal to the fans! MAKE HACHIMAN A BISHOUNEN FOR GOD’S SAKE!

No… that would make his unpopularity kinda pointless…

Maybe we could say that Yuigahama has a weird taste for boys? .-.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Euphonia is basically a rehash of kon. Except with brass instead of strings.

      • skylion says:

…but it has actual plot progression other than being cute until you graduate. Or so we shall see…

    • skylion says:

Team Chippai! Yes, you are in somewhat odd company…

Hey, I continue to pull for Xebec!

You know, for Spring, I thought there would be a huge amount of romance titles to choose from, but we only get the two?

      • JPNIgor says:

Who else is on Team Chippai?

Right? Though romance titles has been on a downfall as of recently. I remember when we had Sukiite Ii na Yo, Chuu2Koi, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, Kamisama Hajimemashita (though I didn’t watch this one) and Sakurasou all in a single season (Fall 2012)… Those were good times…

        • Highway says:

I’ll take Ao Haru Ride over any of those titles, and then follow it up with Ookami Shoujo. Maybe they’re not all in one season, but I like them better.

      • skylion says:

Well, Team Chippai is like the Invisible Storm in some ways…

        Ah, yes. Good times indeed.

      • BlackBriar says:

You know, for Spring, I thought there would be a huge amount of romance titles to choose from, but we only get the two?

Honestly, that works for me. I’ve never been a fan of the romance genre. It’s alright enough if used as a plot device in a story to get things moving. Other than that, shows dominated by it like Golden Time I find are boring, dragged out and overbearing. Especially if it has a male lead you want to strangle just by the mere sight of him after a couple of episodes.

        • skylion says:

This comment was brought to you by La Patisserie Briar Noir avec Vampire Schadenfreude.

          • JPNIgor says:

My thoughts exactly. I mean, not exactly, but it’s amusing to read this from the guy who will brainwash himself with three vamp shows hahaha

            • BlackBriar says:

*It’s super effective* That was a low blow. I didn’t see that coming but it was so clever I had to laugh and give props. He even used different languages for added effect.

Well, after officially a year of withdrawal after the last series of my favorite genre (as currently shown by my avatar) ended, I’m more than happy to be brainwashing myself. I’ll be in a fang-fueled high all this Spring season. What am I saying? I meant for the rest of the year. 😀

            • skylion says:

Really, I thought I would be the only one that would think in very bad French and German. Or would have the stones to speak it to someone whom I suspect speaks French as an immediate language. He may have given me that round, but he owned the game.

          • BlackBriar says:

Touché, monsieur! Vous avez gagné ce partie! (You’ve won this round) 😉

          • Irenesharda says:

C’est d’accord, Briar Noir ne comprend pas. Donnez-lui du temps. Il verra la lumiere.

            • BlackBriar says:

Toi aussi, madame? Je suis vraiment étonné de ce développement qui vient de nulle part. 😀

            • Irenesharda says:

Non? Tu ne sais jamais… Et aussi, je suis une mademoiselle. 😉

            • BlackBriar says:

Alors une erreur de ma part. Je suis très désolé.

        • Irenesharda says:

Oh but romances are wonderful! Especially ones that are done well. You should also be grateful to them, since if it wasn’t for a vampire romance novel series by best friend introduced me to in high school, I would have never have gotten into vampires and become your vampire partner-in-crime now. 😉

But I can also understand what you mean too, there are a lot of bad, simpering romances out there. 😛

          • BlackBriar says:

Well said. I’ll concede to your defense. The most I’m okay with is romance being used as a plot device. A supernatural romance, especially the kind you brought to the table, gets a free pass without question and instant consideration. That one I’m into.

But a dominated romance series using a mundane, every day, yawn-inducing, slice of life setting is an utter bore that eventually gets the axe, buried and not a single glance back. There’s absolutely no hook to those for me so something interesting is needed for any hope of catching my eye or that show will have no chance at all.

That said, I’m proud to have you as my vampire partner-in-crime. At least now I know another commentator shares my particular interest. It was rather lonesome. Karakuri has a moderate liking but she’s a writer. Though she’s the one receiving most of my vampire related suggestions and she did blog two animes of the genre in the same season once. 😀

            • Irenesharda says:

I know what you mean, it’s all about the quality. I’m a romanticist, but I know that there are tones of crappy romance novels, tv shows, movies, and anime out there. However, a good one can last the ages. Look at Pride and Prejudice. And when is somebody going to make a manga/anime adaptation of that? 🙁 We get a Romeo and Juliet but no P&P?

            • skylion says:

Mark Twain on Jane Austen: “Every time I read Pride and Prejudice, I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin bone.”

Of course, the good Mr. Twain is being modest here. I’ve still not forgiven the publisher’s of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It was about 3/4 into the book that I realized they’ve made me re-read Austin…but I couldn’t just stop.

Having said that, since a movie version has been in development hell (edit: looks like it’s slated for a 2016 release) for quite some time, an P&P&Z anime would be interesting….

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Rewrites P&P into something like Cross Ange. >_>

            • Irenesharda says:

I tried to read P&P&Z, but I realized the moment that I tried to read the first page that it was just the same wording but they crammed zombies into it, and it just didn’t gel well on the page for me. It was a badly written book in my opinion, and I can’t read things that are not up to standards for me, and I didn’t get past 2 pages.

However, the movie has perked my interests anyway because of the actors and talent involved, also we haven’t had another Pride and Prejudice since the one with Keira Knightley back in the early 2000s. So, I’ll probably just go see it out of curiosity, even though zombies really aren’t my thing. (seriously, why couldn’t the guy have had Abraham Lincoln with the zombies and had Pride and Prejudice with vampires?)

            • skylion says:

I really have issues with the Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter film. The novel is an epistolary, written by Honest Abe himself. The film is…well, it’s Timur doing what he did with Wanted. Which is a shame as his adaptions of the books for Night Watch and Day Watch are interesting, and far removed from the novels, but still entertaining in their own right. Oh @BB as well, you’d probably like the Watch books by Sergei Lunkyanenko, lots of bad ass vampires and such in them…

  9. d-LaN says:

A rare d-LaN shows up for the Spring 2015 catalogue! Hey there, long time no see guys. Its been quite a while since I last appeared here, eh? To be honest, I’m kinda losing the drive to make anime impressions as of late but we will see how I fare this season!

Also, this season is seriously packed with tons of anime that I want to watch and the ones where I am interested in it. Not to mention that I’m in my final semester with several resits papers and a repeat subject coming up. But eh, I will try my best to balance the two of them.

    Will watch

Gunslinger Stratos: I like the character designs and the SF vibes of this. The parallel time lines concept seems pretty interesting as well.

    SNAFU/Oregairu Zoku

Danmachi: read and loved the first volume of the novel, can’t wait for the anime adaptation.

Owari no Seraph: Currently read up to date with the manga and liking it as well. I just hope that the anime original part will be decent since the author is involved.

Plastic Memories: I rather enjoyed the works written by Naotaka Hayashi (Science ADV series, Bravely Default) so I have my eyes out for this. The anime designs that is adapted from Okiura (IS) look pleasant to the eye as well.

Show By Rock!! : Out of the 2 Bones anime airing this season, this is the one that I’m more interested in. I have been paying close attention to SBR!! since I saw the crazy character designs. Especially the chuuni/visual kei cat guys XD

    Nisekoi S2
    Knights of Sidonia S2

DGM Adventure Tri: I am really worried for this. Other than 2 key visuals, there nothing else for it and its abt time for it to go on air ady.

3 episode test/depending on general reception

    Shokugeki no Souma

Nagato Yuki-chan: I’m not sure should I be watching this since I’m a Haruhi virgin, but since apparently this is set in an alternate continuity so i will just give it a try.

Kekkai Sensen: The Chaika anime original ending is still new on my mind and seeing that the anime original character is displayed prominently on the promotional visuals… Still, the premise do sound rather interesting.

    Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku
    Sound! Euphonium

    Undecided but interested

Grisaia no Meikyuu/Rakuen: The first season did a damn good job at killing most of my hype for the anime adaptation of Grisaia series. But I am still somewhat interested in what else Grisaia has to offer so might just hang around and see is the sequel better or not.

    Houkago no Pleiades
    Triage X

Punchline: This sure as hell doesn’t look like your usual Kotaro Uchikoshi works, so I am just going to approach it with open mind.

    • skylion says:

This is the show I have my eye one. It’s a given that I haven’t seen the first episode, but it feels like a sleeper show. It won’t be on many radars at first, but by June, for great or for ill, it will be talked about.

  10. skylion says:

If anyone is interested in hoisting the Jolly Roger, the is a lovely sub out there for Ongaku Shoujo. My goodness, it’s so moe…Studio Deen deserves a great deal of credit for this part of the Anime Mirai project. I’m actually hoping we could see it become a series. It happened to Death Billiards!

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Isn’t Deen the studio that did FSN? >_>

      *runs*

      • Kyokai says:

        Don’t get me started now…

      • akagami says:

Hey now! F/SN the original was fun! We (actually maybe only me) enjoyed it!

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Completely wrong words to say around here! RUN FAST!

          • akagami says:

Well, Kyokai knows I liked the original, and she hasn’t blasted me yet. Good fortune walks with me~

        • BlackBriar says:

You must have a death wish saying that with Kyokai around. Remember: Death Perception. 😀

      • BlackBriar says:

Dude! You mess with the bull and you’ll get the horns.

      • d-LaN says:

DEEN also did the latest Rozen Maiden season which doesn’t end up as a train wreck. Or so they say because I have no idea what even going on.

They also did Sakura Trick and Bakumatsu Rock.

    • skylion says:

Oh goodness. I can always count on you people to take an inch that isn’t even there. LOL.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

We know the Deeness level of the crowd here.

        • skylion says:

No, it’s not DEEN it’s FSN, the active accretion disc of all anime discussion…

Go watch the show and leave the GARcher behind for once………Geez……

          • Highway says:

Ongaku Shoujo was very nice. You guys need to get off your old opinion of DEEN. To me, DEEN means Sankarea and Rozen Maiden Zuruckspulen.

            • skylion says:

DEEN also means a quite nice second season of Log Horizon. And yes, Ongaku Shoujo was quite nice. I thought it was a bit heavy handed on the idol exposure….but that’s the trend these days I guess.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

I have no serious qualms about DEEN. Afterall, we got Touka Gettan.

  11. akagami says:

It doesn’t feel like spring yet, but the spring season is here! Time to get ready for the quarterly first impressions marathon!

Recap from last season: 16 shows, 4 dropped from my tentative list, none from my must watch. Not too shabby, I’m getting better (and the shows are becoming a little more manageable)..

Are you Lady? I am Lady!
    —————————————-
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machibatteiru: An oddball comedy with a dash of romance, which I highly enjoyed (S1). The character interactions were great, and I’m looking forward to more Yui, Yukino, and Hachiman.
Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatte Iru Darouka: I’m enjoying the manga, so will definitely check this out. Actually there have been a lot of recent manga featuring adventurers going into dungeons or new worlds to level up like a RPG, is this a new fad? Not that I’m complaining, because they’re fun to read! Although I could have sworn Hestia had a smaller bust size, the promo pics make her seem bigger than I recall how she looked like from the manga.
Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu: Ignoring the Endless Eight arc, the original series was amazing, and the Suzumiya Haruhi no Shōshitsu film was downright awesome and filled with all sorts of Haruhi series fanservice. The movie redeemed the series in my mind, after the E8 fiasco. I’m not a huge Yuki fan, but more awesome Haruhi is always good. Speaking of, I miss Hirano Aya. I liked her voice acting =(
Denpa Kyoushi: Another series I am following in manga form. Genius kid forced by his sister to teach high-school science, it’s been a highly entertaining slice-of-life comedy read. I’m looking forward to see how this will be adapted. Kamiya Hiroshi is VA’ing the MC, which makes me excited (Arararagi from Bakemono, Souma from Working!!, Izaya from Durarara!!, Law from One Piece, Yato from Noragami, etc.) Inner fan-squee
Owari no Seraph: This should be right up BB’s alley. Actually based on his post above, he’s already reach nirvana in anticipation. I ran into the manga a little while back, and although I was hesitant to pick it up with the vampire theme, based on recommendations I decided to check it out, and to my surprise I’ve been enjoying it! Without spoiling anything, it’s very shounen with humans vs. vampires with a military squad component weaved into the story. The characters are fun and the interactions are enjoyable, although there are some parallels to Naruto (before it went suck).
High School DxD BorN: Do I want a third season? Do apples grow on trees? This show (S1) set the bar for ecchi fantasy comedy harems, and a third season is highly welcomed. The MC unashamedly revels in his perverseness, and the ecchi content is high, but if you don’t mind that, this is a highly enjoyable series.
Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works 2nd Season: More Fate, set in the /Stay night setting. S1 went a different route than the original series (of which I am the lone supporter). Plenty of action, plenty of HQ animation, lots of sword sparks. Oh, and to start a figure collection, I got a Fate/Extra Saber figure!!!
Kekkai Sensen: New York is ground zero again! I’m not familiar with the source material, however the premise reminds me of Devil Survivor – which isn’t a bad thing, as I really enjoyed those games! I fully expect this to be the headliner big explosion show (or maybe on par with Fate/Stay Night UBW).
Arslan Senki: While FMA was ok and Gin no Saji wasn’t my cup of tea, Arakawa Hiromu’s is talented, and this should be a strong contender. This is like the male version of Akatsuki no Yona~ I always enjoy myself a good fantasy story, looking forward to it!
Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture: The original movie and SAC were masterpieces, and highly enjoyable to watch. The more recent ones haven’t reached the same potential, but GitS is a strong sci-fi franchise. I found Arise to be decent, and this should at least meet the same criteria given the same staff are involved.
Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic: My kawaii quota has been looking low for the upcoming season, and then Kiniro Mosaic S2 showed up! Alice!! Shino!! Alice!! Shino!!
Teekyuu 4: The first three seasons were crazy comedy fun, and I am eagerly looking forward to more of crazy hijinks~
Takamiya Nasuno Desu!: A spin-off of Teekyu? With one of the best girls? Oh yes. Ooohhhh yes.
Hibike! Euphonium: Music!!! Kyoto!!! YES OMG, GIVE ME MORE K-ON SIMILAR GOODNESS~~~ Ahem.
Ore Monogatari!!: Another excellent manga. The MC’s design is odd, but it works. I almost avoided the manga because of the MC’s design, and that would have been a big shame. The show is ridiculously cute, and before I knew it I was rooting for the couple. I hope they give it the good adaption it deserves… bring it on~!
Nisekoi:: YAHHHHHHHHHH, S2!!! I loved the first season (Chitoge 100%). More Shaft, more Chitoge, yes please.
    Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo: A good rom-com manga, and I love the character designs (Yoshikawa Miki~~~ omg I still ♥ Yankee-kun to Megane-chan). Like super ♥♥♥.

The ball might roll to second base…
    —————————————-
Re-Kan!: I’ve been having a bit of a slump when it comes to 4-komas. The more recent ones haven’t really tickled my fancy, unlike Lucky Star which pulled out an all-star grand slam out of nowhere. With that being said, it’s slice-of-life, comedy, and has some supernatural. Ok, so two counts out of three. The character designs aren’t bad, so it’ll warrant a test-drive at least.
Gunslinger Stratos: Everything screams Top Tier quality, from the seiyuu to Urobuchi Gen (at least you know it’ll be entertaining, at the least). The director is an unknown and the big wild card. Definitely going to test the waters with it and see if it’ll sink or fly. With a roster of this caliber, it could do amazing things. Stay tuned!
Plastic Memories: The story sounds a little plain, but it’s sci-fi with familiar character designs. There won’t be any explosions so it won’t attract a large following, but I’m always willing to try original series. As long as it doesn’t get preachy, it should be fun to see where it goes.
Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku: Don’t know much about this other than its origins lie with Vocaloid, and it’s about a high school setting with supernatural powers duking it out for more milkshakes to use in the school yard. That’s enough for me to start with ^^
Punch Line: It’s Noitamina, so it’ll be interesting at the least. The first thing I took away, is that it’s… very colorful. I have a feeling this might turn out to be a really wacky show, so I’m hoping it’s a good wacky and not some weird wacky.
Ninja Slayer From Animation: It has Trigger, otherwise I would have shied far, far away from this. I still might, as I get queasy with this much violence. I’ll give this a whirl and see if the wanton violence overwhelms my sensibilities… or not. Who knows, I might be able to finish it! Maybe.

    Damn Teases:
    —————————————-
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid: Saw Vivid and thought it was S2 of Vividred Operation. Boo, instead it’s standard fare mahou shoujo. Double boo for the tease.

So 23 shows that I’m going to pick-up. This is going to be a rough season, 7 more than last and I dropped 4~~~
*takes a deep breath* Ok, I’m Lady.

    • akagami says:

Ok, that wasn’t too bad. One bold editing fail at the end… I can live with that. At least it wasn’t at the beginning… oh gawd, a fully bolded post. *shudders*

      • d-LaN says:

I think I should take a lesson or two from your formatting. Yours looks better than mine despite being almost similar lol. I think mine looks too….. spacey?

        • akagami says:

Nakama~ Good shows are good shows!

Although I can’t bother trying Shokugeki no Souma. After Yakitate!! Japan (which was fun to watch), it somehow filled my quota for any cooking based anime for…. like the rest of my life. So now I have zero interested in watching food anime. I tried Koufuku Graffiti last season and couldn’t last through the first episode.

    • BlackBriar says:

Owari no Seraph: This should be right up BB’s alley. Actually based on his post above, he’s already reach nirvana in anticipation.

Oh, my friend, that shouldn’t be a supposition but a foregone conclusion before a question can even be asked. Nirvana in anticipation? You don’t have the slightest idea. I have been in agonizing anticipation over Seraph of the End since its adaptation announcement six months ago. My last vampire series, Strike the Blood, ended with Winter 2014. A full year of withdrawal isn’t nice. It’s thoroughly excruciating.

      • Irenesharda says:

Isn’t Kekkai Sensen supposed to have vampires as well? Also there’s Vampire Holmes too. You’ve come to an oasis after being in the desert!

        • BlackBriar says:

Yes! It’s three times the vampiric fun and I’m real grateful for it. What a journey it was finding this oasis.

      • akagami says:

Strike the Blood had maybe 5 vampires. This one has a whole army. It’s like Owari no Seraph was tailor-made for you, giving a fresh-water lake to a thirsty person, to borrow from Irenesharda’s analogy. And the manga has lots of feasting, without sexualizing it, for once.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Underworld!

          • BlackBriar says:

I have all four installments on DVD!!

            Underworld (2003)
            Underworld: Evolution (2006)
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
            Underworld: Awakening (2012)

There is supposed to be a fifth installment in the works set to be released some time this year.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              Yay Friend! 😀

I admit it was cheesy at times but it is a guilty pleasure I will admit.

        • BlackBriar says:

I’m fine with either way how a vampire bite is handled. Regular or sexualized. The latter has a more personal touch, in my opinion. Because the effects would carry a psychologically addictive quality, I’d imagine the victim’s mind would be distorted when their body is already sapped of strength from their blood being drained.

      • akagami says:

I was wondering though… if they pull a fast one and pull it from this season and announce it will air at later date because of some unforeseen difficulties… what would you do?

        • BlackBriar says:

I don’t even want to think about that. If that ever happened, I’d go insane after waiting so long and have to deal with the feeling of being cheated.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

      Aka-seiba!

      AESTUS DOMUS AUREA!

      • akagami says:

I have no idea what this means. I yahooed it (cause I’m semi-allergic to google every other day) and it told me it’s a theater, of sorts. I don’t understand what that’s supposed to tell me though, lol.

  12. akagami says:

    *prods the Spammy gently*

  13. Di Gi Kazune says:

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, fire is my blood
    I have created over a thousand LOLis…

Wait that is the wrong chant.

Chasing for girls in dungeons: That is dangerous and you are liable to get killed as you are not going to pay attention to the monsters in there.

Nonetheless, Nanoha is getting yet another sequel.*snip*

Back to its LOLi routes because they discovered that baba-NanoFate does not work. I am still waiting for a proper 3rd season of Nanoha.

then skylion should get at least a little of his wish, with more KonekoGasper

    Fixed 😛 Gasper FTW!

    Preliminary:
    Show by Rock! (too cute)
Eto-tama (too cute, also Uma-tan is correct, no one remembers any after horse :P)

    Not so preliminary:
Unlimited LOLi Works (wait that’s the wrong universe)

    Maybe:
Legend of the Heroic of the Legend of Jesus Arslan

    That’ll do for now.

  14. MR.KLAC says:

spring 2015 give as of this time got 3 shows to watch

    DxD s3
    mosiac british s2
nisekoi he said she said s2

give of course DxD s3 on my watching.

    • Kyokai says:

Oh hey there, seeing you here after a long time. Welcome back! 🙂

    • BlackBriar says:

Only three shows? That’s rather small.

      • elior1 says:

nanoha vivid should be good more divine buster is always good to see i cant wait for this

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

There is no divine buster here.

          • elior1 says:

what the name of vivio weapon in vivid? and by the way do you think they will reach the tournament arc?this is my favorite story out of all

      • JPNIgor says:

Aww, not everyone have as many time for anime as we do.

I can only manage to watch as much as I do because I work at my family’s quiet place, so there are no bosses to boss me around haha

  15. elior1 says:

@blackbariar the most show i look forward is nanoha vivid because it about nanoha and fate adopted girl vivio and it good to have more devine buster battle

    • BlackBriar says:

Right now, I don’t even know how to react to that.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Simple, I want my Arisa and Suzuka. Back. As. LOLis. In fact, I like the fanversion of Arisa. Burning Arisa. :3 (there is a connection to her name)

  16. Joojoobees says:

Miss Hokusai looks like a very interesting movie. I hope I get a chance to see it.

    • skylion says:

Oh, with two Kyokai no Kanata films taking my attention I didn’t even notice it. P IG? Period Piece? Art? Larger than life characters?

Oh, thanks for pointing it out….

    • Kyokai says:

Indeed, JJB. Loved the old school vibe (similar to House of Five Leaves), and the reason I added her to the main page graphic. 😉

  17. BlackBriar says:

Anime news: Noragami Supernatural TV Anime Gets 2nd Season

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

      Izuna-tan-desu.

    • Irenesharda says:

Not as exciting as the Steins;Gate 0 news, but I guess I might actually have to finish the first season. That’s another one that got involuntarily dropped. 😛

      • JPNIgor says:

Both are great, GREAT NEWS *-* There’s also Chaos;Child, though it doesn’t do much good to me as I’m not inclined to watch Chaos;Head…

Actually I guess I’m more excited with Noragami’s news, as getting back to Steins;Gate after what I thought was a definitive ending makes me kind of apprehensive.

        • Irenesharda says:

Normally I would agree, but I think that because the story deals with alternate worlds from alternate timelines, it could really work well. It’s a good way not to mess with the perfect story that they already did, and yet still tell more with sort of the same characters. We can explore the beta timeline and what’s going on there. I’ve never played any of the games or read the extra material that this sequel will be built upon, but it could be fun and really good if in the right hands.

          • JPNIgor says:

Wow, you’re actually right about that. Now I’m optimistic, thank you ^^

      • BlackBriar says:

Then as I said for the other animes accumulating on your list, step to it. And quickly. 😀

        • Irenesharda says:

Sigh, just tell me, is it worth it? The first couple episodes were okay, but I didn’t see much that would pull you in, and definitely not for a second season.

          • BlackBriar says:

Aside from some patience needed with Yuki Kaji’s character even if his attitude is somewhat worthy of the situation he’s in, it’s a fairly good show that’s worth the investment of time. If my word alone isn’t enough, check the MAL thread announcing the second season’s confirmation. I’d say about 95% of the commentators are hyped.

          • akagami says:

Personally the show was average for me. If you liked the first couple of episodes, you’ll like the rest. The series doesn’t really change in tone at all, so the first couple will give you an idea of how the series is overall.

      • BlackBriar says:

I’ve heard of Steins;Gate but never saw it. When I started commenting here, I was only following one series. My choices of anime online weren’t broadened yet. I did watch Robotics;Notes, though.

        • Irenesharda says:

          O_O
Get off..right now…go find it somewhere and watch it.

I too had heard of it for years but never thought to give it a try, especially when someone told me that it was based on a game and such. However, once I saw it was ranked #2 on MAL, and wanted to see why everyone thought it was so good.

Steins:Gate is now in my Hall of Fame of anime, and is one of the best shows period that I’ve ever seen. The subjects it goes into, the character studies, it’s just amazing. And it’s one of the best stories about time travel I’ve seen in any medium as well, using time travel not just as a plot device, but actually going into really strong theories of how it works and why.

I cannot recommend the show enough. You have to see it. I implore you.

          • BlackBriar says:

There’s already a site in mind and I’m downloading the episodes as we speak. Though it will take some time to get them all.

            • Irenesharda says:

I recently got the series on DVD, they came out with an “Anime Classics” set that has the entire thing on blu-ray and DVD for under $30. I only get the DVD sets of shows that I think are really special.

Be aware though, that the show is a little bit of a slow burn, especially in the beginning. I’ve heard many who gave up because of that. But keep with it and it’s worth it. For the sake of the plot, the slower set up is necessary.

            • akagami says:

Agreed with Irenesharda. It’s definitely in my top five anime. Steins;Gate starts out slow, and then builds to a nice momentum, and then runs full-out during the second half.

An amazing anime. The movie was just pure awesome fanservice and an excellent close to the main series. You have to watch the main series first to understand most of it though.

        • d-LaN says:

Alternatively, the PC and the soon to be released PS3 ver of the VN is being officially translated as well if you want to get the game.

        • akagami says:

Also, Robotic;Notes is just set in the same universe, but that’s all they share in common.

Fun tidbit: Tennouji Nae (the JAXA employee who helps them) is the same girl who’s the daughter of Mr. Braun in Steins;Gate!

    • Irenesharda says:

Weekends are my heaviest days too, but that’s a good thing since I have my classes during the week.

Oh, and BB, have you seen Vampire Holmes yet? I’ve seen a bit of the raw version and I’m waiting for subs, but so far I’m not very impressed. I’ve seen PS2 games with better animation. 🙁

      • BlackBriar says:

No, I haven’t seen that yet. I’m waiting for it to show up at my usual anime downloading site. Plus I haven’t given much hope on the series after finding out it’s a short so I’m indifferent at the moment.

      • BlackBriar says:

        @Irenesharda:

Update: Okay, I just saw it and I’m not very impressed. The animation was so bad and whatever plot that was supposed to be there, I couldn’t take seriously. So fortunately, the run was only 3 minutes long.

        • Irenesharda says:

Yeah, I saw it too. It was bad. I’m not sure, I might give it another episode, but I’m not hopeful, but, like you said, at least it’s only 3 min (less if you don’t count the OP/ED).

However, saw Owari no Seraph, and you can count me in for that. 😀

          • BlackBriar says:

As if I’d have it any other way with that second paragraph. 😀 I, myself, have yet to see it but I’m taking it slow and easy because it’s hard to believe it’s finally here.

    • JPNIgor says:

Last season was the same for me. But the start of the week had so little to do that I could push stuff I didn’t like so much to it.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

      YAY! UBW NIGHT! 😀

My poor Kirei~~ T_T Did not survive from the last season…
