Metanorn Readers’ Choice Awards 2013 Nomination Call

Another year is over and done with and that means it is now time for exciting awards on Metanorn and just like last year we are ready to take in your nominations! I hope you are prepared to rack your mind and if you need help finding out what aired in 2013, check out our list under spoiler tags of this post.

Where has 2013 gone to?! It was just a blur for me when I think about it but while compiling the list of series and movies that released last year, I have to say, it was very happening. However, that is usual with many developments with new studios, creative staff and talent enriching the industry. But of course, depending on what you like, this opinion can be different, which is totally fine! This pretty much sums up the purpose of our awards to know Metanorn’s readers’/lurkers’ personal taste to arrive at a popular consensus rather than just the team members pitching in only. We’d rather have a larger range than us.

Therefore, I’ll keep this one short, so let me lay the groundwork quickly. We are following the same framework as last year but with less awards. You have twenty awards to nominate choices for, broken down into four major categories as below. You can nominate five choices maximum for each award (minimum is up to your preference). This post will be active till 18th January, 2014, after which we will publish category-wise polls for voting. Do note some additional pointers:

  • We are only considering anime that finished airing in 2013. Therefore, all carry-over shows from Fall’13 will not be considered and their nominations will not be accepted.
  • As most of us do not live in Japan, we get to watch the movies after their DVD/BDs are released. Thus, our list comprise of movies whose DVD/BDs have been released in 2013, including the titles that were not included in 2012 movie nominations.
  • If our list is missing out a series/movie that you want to nominate, which follows above criteria, please ping us in the comments and we will update accordingly.

Now, get those nominations coming in per category and award. I would also like to encourage our lurkers to de-lurk and participate in this once-a-year activity. Let’s get set go!

        I have to agree with this sentiment. It’s always a peculiar incident when an anime decides to use an English song… The last time I remember it happening was the Higashi no Eden (Eden of the East) OP. I’m almost tempted to suggest that such songs shouldn’t be qualified.

          As Roundabout was officially used by the production house, there is no rule we can set for not nominating it so if you want to, skylion, you can. 🙂

          Though, as I’m at the beginning of the list, if you have commented with you five choices then this becomes a moot point.

    2013 went by quickly. I’ve waited all year for this post and luckily I decided to hold onto this anime list I made some time ago (A long time ago. I came here prepared, baby!!). But with so many categories in one shot and so few, careful choices to make, you guys are making me put more effort into this than I anticipated.       Hahaha, I wish I could nominate stuff from Tokyo Ravens, Strike the Blood, Kill la Kill and Log Horizon. Too bad we’ll have to wait a year. It’s already a relief that I could nominate Psycho-Pass, Magi S1 and Zetsuen no Tempest so I’ll make do with those.

          Yeees *-* That ending is so cute. I would nominate Tokyo Ravens’ OP and ED as well as Kill la Kill OP. I’m actually glad that they couldn’t make it this year. I would have more options and my head would be waaay more confused than it is as of now.

              I watch it as well, though it’s a show that I particularly don’t stop to watch the OP and ED. I mean, they’re nice, but not as addicting as others like Kyousougiga’s ED, for example.

              Oh, I remembered about Nagi no Asukara’s songs as well. The new OP and ED are particularly remarkable.

              Well, they do have a lot in common staff-wise. Fortunately, Production I.G. went right in everything they went wrong in GC. Though I do think GC had a better animation and more scenery-porn, and a world with as much potential as Psycho-Pass.

              And it will get a MOVIE?! *-* I’m SO happy, you can’t even imagine.

              And BOY I can’t wait for the dub! Though I’ve seen the trailer and wasn’t impressed at all ( I know, it was just a trailer, but still). Akane had one line in the whole thing, if I remember correctly. And it sounded TERRIBLE. -_- I just hope that the dub will be as good as I expect it to be. It would be heartbreaking to see such a show ruined by a bad dub TT^TT

            Yep, it will be underappreciated when/if it gets to the west. It’s theme is heavy and there’s gore since the first episode. It’s definitely not made for a broad audience.

              I don’t think it will be THAT unappreciated, tbh. Yes, it won’t be as popular and talked-about as Titans or FMA, but it’s a generally good show, so I think it will be successful, just not that hyped.

              To me, Psycho-Pass would fit in very well with the type of show that BBC America airs, not really corny enough for SyFy, but it fits in with the Copper, Sherlock, Doctor Who kind of feel for me.

        Well, first, I only nominate songs that haven’t been already nominated. Second, these are the ones I like more than just about any others, the ones I’ll make special effort to play. And there aren’t that many of them.

        And some of the ones that I do make special effort to play just aren’t worthy of a ‘best’ title in anything. For instance, S-M-L from NouCome is fun to listen to, but the only ‘best’ it gets is “Best song made by 7 bands playing at the same time”.

        And on top of all that, perhaps the best OPs and ED that I saw in anime this year aren’t eligible: “Triangular,” “Lion,” and “Northern Cross” from Macross Frontier. “Northern Cross” in particular is spectacular: Epic without trying (my problems with the AoT OPs is that they try too hard to be epic), evocative of its show, plus it’s so much an 80’s musical song.

        I may fill in my last OP slot, tho, as I’ve remembered “Watashi no Bara wo Haminasai” by ALI PROJECT from Rozen Maiden. It has a wonderful techno carnival feel.

          As long as implying turns something into cannon, Ichika is Laura’s wife in Infinite Stratos 2 and therefore, could make it to best couple of the year.
