2011 Year-Ender: Male Seiyuu

Third in line for the Year-Ender event is Male Seiyuu Award. Vote Away~

——————————————————————-

I can finally rest easy that our Winter Catalogue is done. Not to mention, before I pack up, need to finish a lot of backend site stuff that you guys don’t know of. There are times I feel like I’m running a corporation! Anyways, as everyone knows I’m a seiyuu fag so it was awesome taking a stroll down 2011 and selecting the best from it. There’s no dearth of talent and woo boy, can these people act. We had to squeeze in many names so understand the honourable mentions.
2011 was the year I got back to recognizing voices and recognizing voice actors. The guys on this list have done some terrific work in 2011, and in a couple cases, I’d call one of their roles a career-best.
Oh boy! What a year this has been for brand new Seiyuu just getting into the buisness and a few of the older ones that have been around for a very long time. So sit back and cast your vote for your favorites Seiyuu! I can already spot some fan favorites by our own writers here on Metanorn.
Man, we’re finally getting back on track. Well, we’ve been busy lately with the Winter Catalogue but thank goodness it’s finally out. I’m almost one step closer to relaxing. So yeah, how about those male seiyuu’s? I’m not much of an expert on the matter of seiyuu’s, so I brought in the experts to fill in the nominations.

So far the following Year-Ender posts are out and voting is still open:

The list is in not particular order. So, check out these talented seiyuu’s and vote for the best~!

——————————————————————-

[ 1 ] Kamiya Hiroshi

This guy voiced Yamato and Maji De Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! Alright, so that’s not the most significant role he’s done this year, but he continued increasing his terrific resume with Mephisto from Ao no Exorcist, Zess from the Break Blade series, and returned to one of his greatest roles, Natsume from Natsume Yuujinchou. All of those characters are very different personalities, a showcase of how skilled of a seiyuu Kamiya is at voicing different character types.

//.jrow

’11 Notable Roles

[ Mephisto Pheles ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Zess ] Break Blade
[ Natsume Takashi ] Natsume Yuujin-chou
[ Souma Hiroomi ] Working’!!
[ Beelzebub ] Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san

——————————————————————-

[ 2 ] Hosoya Yoshimasa

Oh man, this dude. You can call him a rising star and does he have a voice. A very deep one at that and every character he has voiced from the almost melancholic Juu Juuzawa in Denpa teki na Kanojo, the somewhat hyper yet cool-headed Shichika from Katanagatari to the recent kansai-accented Arata in Chihayafuru; he has maintained the ownership of his character. His most memorable role of the year would be of Nezumi in No.6 and I seriously do not need any singing praises. Also, Yukitaka from Level E and a guest role of Shibata in Natsume Yuujinchou San.

//.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Nezumi ] No.6
[ Wataya Arata ] Chihayafuru
[ Tsutsui Yukitaka ] Level E
[ Katsumi Shibata ] Natsume Yuujinchou San

——————————————————————-

[ 3 ] Kaji Yuki

Well, I remember hearing this guy’s voice first pop up in No.6 as Shion, and then suddenly he started to appear in a lot of different anime like Ao no Exorcist, Deadman Wonderland, C3, Guilty Crown, Hanasaku Iroha, Kimi to Boku and Un-Go. So, you can see he started out slow but then appeared in lots of anime, and he will continue to star in tons of shows forever and ever! He could become the male version of Kana Hanazawa! Seriously…

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Yachi Haruaki ] C3
[ Shion ] No.6
[ Konekumaru Miwa ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Ouma Shu ] Guilty Crown
[ Yoh Takami ] Deadman Wonderland

——————————————————————-

[ 4 ] Fukuyama Jun

I think this dude will forever be Lelouch in my mind, but he has done so many amazing roles through every season of anime! Proving he can play a few serious guys like Fabulous Sugata in Star Driver, that famous peacock suit anyone? But somehow our man Jun always gets several roles as the “random-crazy-over-the-top” character. His most recent work in Horizon has him playing the role of the an eroge obsessed fanboy named Toori, and puzzle obsessed Galileo in Phi Brain. But in the end I think we wouldn’t want anyone other than Jun providing his voice to these unique characters and making us laugh for hours.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Okumura Yukio ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Aoi Toori ] Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon
[ Nura Rikuo ] Nurarihyon no Mago
[ Galileo ] Phi Brain
[ Shindou Sugata ] Star Driver
[ Takanashi Souta ] Working’!!

——————————————————————-

[ 5 ] Ono Daisuke

Now it would not be much of a Metanorn list without the mention of Ono! I know most of us love this guys work, weather it was as Shizuo from Durarara!! Or his work in something like Dantalian no Shoka, Deadman Wonderland, Kamisama no Memochu and of course Working!! His best role of all time would have to be as crow in Nichijou! Right? Well alright maybe he has done better work…still Ono is one amazing dude seriously.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Angel ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Hugh Disward ] Dantalian no Shoka
[ Satou Jun ] Working’!!
[ Yondaime ] Kamisama no Memochou
[ Kengamine Nagi ] Deadman Wonderland

——————————————————————-

[ 6 ] Miyano Mamoru

Holy mother of god! This guy played some amazing characters this year! Starting right off with Takuto from Star Driver and that famous “It’s a pinch!” Line. And then starring as the insane mad scientist Okabe in Steins;Gate with all those laughs! Right along with his “I am mad scientist, it’s so cool~! Son-of-a-bitch.” And then changing things up recently in Chihayafuru as a more “serious” role of Taichi, proving he can be quite serious or random and crazy like Okabe.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Okabe Rintarou ] Steins;Gate
[ Mashima Taichi ] Chihayafuru
[ Miura Kento ] Kimi ni Todoke S2
[ Tsunashi Takuto ] Star Driver
[ Tokiya Ichinose ] Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji Love 1000%

——————————————————————-

[ 7 ] Okamoto Nobuhiko

This guy first bursted on the anime scene in a few random series but once he got casted as the aggressive overpowered Accelerator in both seasons of Toaru Majitsu no Index series, where he got to scream at the top of his lungs! Seriously that scream of his is really amazing. After that series we got to hear him in Ao no Exorcist, Kamisama Dolls, Yumekui Merry, Sacred Seven, Guilty Crown, Ben-to and Tiger and bunny! Just looking at that list; you just have to give him some type of award…

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Okumura Rin ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Nizuma Eiji ] Bakuman
[ Kuga Kyouhei ] Kamisama Dolls
[ Kijima Knight ] Sacred Seven
[ Kisa Shouta ] Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi
[ Accelerator ] Toaru Majutsu no Index II
[ Fujiwara Yumeji ] Yumekui Merry

——————————————————————-

[ 8 ] Sugita Tomokazu

This guy will forever be Gintoki from Gintama! Whenever I hear his voice I just wait for him to do something random. I could say he is one of my personal favorite guys to listen to. He could be kicking some ass as Gintoki or doing his best naration in Haruhi as Kyon! Hell he even starred as Switch in Sket Dance and Gintoki during that cross over episode pulling double duty as both characters that talk to each other in the same scene! Double the Gintoki for the win.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Sakata Gintoki ] Gintama
[ Zen ] Nurarihyon no Mago
[ Usui Kazuyoshi ] Sket Dance
[ Hajime Kanzaki ] Beelzebub
[ Brooklyn Luckfield ] Super Robot Wars OG

——————————————————————-

[ 9 ] Konishi Katsuyuki

Most famous for his “PIERCING THE HEAVENS!” quotes and many many more to follow. You can always count on this guy to voice some of the most epic characters like playing Oga in Beelzebub and starring in Fairy Tail, Sacred Seven, Last exile: Ginyoku no Fam, and last but not forgotten for our dear yaoi fans! Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, right Anaaga? Kyokai? And everyone else out there!

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Oga Tatsumi ] Beelzebub
[ Takano Masamune ] Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi
[ Laxus Dreyar ] Fairy Tail
[ Yuuji Kenmi ] Sacred Seven

——————————————————————-

[ 10 ] Kimura Ryohei

Man has this guy ever been busy! In case you do not know who this guy is he got his start in 2002! But I would say his biggest breakthrough was around 2010 starring in five different shows in one season. In the following year he starred in several high powered shows like C, Gosick, Hanasaku Iroha, Kamisama Dolls, Kimi to Boku, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, Natsume Yujincho San and finally Mawaru Penguindrum! So yeah this has been a huge year for Ryohei.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Kodaka ] Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
[ Kuga Aki ] Kamisama Dolls
[ Asaba Yuuki ] Kimi to Boku.
[ Takakura Shouma ] Mawaru Penguindrum

——————————————————————-

[ 11 ] Irino Miyu

I don’t think I can remember back when I heard this guy the first time, I would say probably in that fail series Asura Crying? And in Gundam 00, back when I was a solo blogger. But when he got the role of Makoto from Denpa Onna I thought he did a solid job! Shortly after he jumped into AnoHana, Star driver, Sacred Seven, Kimi to Boku, Last Exile: Ginyoku no fam, Towa no Quon and Un-Go.

//.foshizzel

’11 Notable Roles

[ Yadomi Jinta ] Ano Hana
[ Niwa Makoto ] Denpa Onna
[ Tachibana Chizuru ] Kimi to Boku.
[ Kagami Makoto ] Sacred Seven

——————————————————————-

[ 12 ] Nakata Jouji

I’ve met Nakata Jouji and you (probably) haven’t. Bwahahaha! Alright, bragging aside, if you like Type-Moon, you’re gonna know this guy’s voice as Kirei from Fate/Zero and also Carnival Phantasm. He has such a great voice that he can take very deep; I pretend that I can imitate it, but nah, it’s only alright. His other big role this year was as Chaser John Doe (you’re saying it in your head right now!) in Yumekui Merry; not enough lines there in my opinion.

//.jrow

’11 Notable Roles

[ Alucard ] Hellsing OVAs
[ Kotomine Kirei ] Fate/Zero
[ Nrvnqsr Chaos/ Neco Arc/ Kirei ] Carnival Phantasm
[ Gyuki ] Nurarihyon no Mago
[ John Doe ] Yumekui Merry

——————————————————————-

[ 13 ] Fujiwara Keiji

When I heard Hunter x Hunter’s Leorio first speak, he sounded like Maes Hughes in addition to already looking like the guy! Leorio is his biggest lead role of 2011, but other noteworthy characters include Jake from Tiger & Bunny, being the father figure of the main characters in Ao no Exorcist, Blood-C, Mayo Chiki!, Phi Brain and Yumekui Merry.

//.jrow //.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Jake Martinez ] Tiger & Bunny
[ Fujimoto Shirou ] Ao no Exorcist
[ Leorio Paladiknight ] Hunter x Hunter 2011
[ Nura Rihan ] Nurarihyon no Mago
[ Kaidou Baron ] Phi Brain

——————————————————————-

[ 14 ] Nakamura Yuuichi

Guy says all of maybe 10-15 words as Ryu in Kimi ni Todoke and then blasts out his voice as Hideo in Majikoi… but ultimately, you’ll remember him most this year as Gai from Guilty Crown. While the show itself is subject to many a debate, Gai has been one of the better parts of it, and it no doubt was/is Nakamura’s best role in ‘11. Though he can do a good blondie, he can do an awesome trap as well, which he did in Uta-Pri as a pink-haired Ringo. He was quite badass as Gekkou in Itsuka Tenma while almost regal as Hodr in Break Blade. His profile is definitely increasing as the years go by.

//.jrow //.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Gai ] Guilty Crown
[ Ringo Tsukimiya ] Uta no☆Prince-sama♪
[ Kurenai Gekkou ] Itsuka Tenma
[ Sanada Ryuu ] Kimi ni Todoke S2
[ Hatori Yoshiyuki ] Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi
[ Hodr ] Break Blade movies

——————————————————————-

[ 15 ] Namikawa Daisuke

Now this is a very seasoned voice actor, who can do a deep voice to moe-blob in an instant. His variation is amazing and you can simply see it in work hearing his roles as the devious Prince Baka in Level E, moe-moe Waver in Fate/Zero, deadly, deep Akutabe in Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san, evil Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter and the chocolate hero Kazehaya in Kimi ni Todoke.

//.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Rock ] Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail
[ Waver Velvet ] Fate/Zero
[ Baka Ki El Dogra ] Level E
[ Kazehaya Shouta ] Kimi ni Todoke S2
[ Narukami Yuu ] Persona 4
[ Akutabe ] Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san

——————————————————————-

[ 16 ] Uchiyama Kouki

This twenty-one year old newbie like Yoshimasa who’s really making some waves with his voice acting. His big break was Natsuno from Shiki and since then he has been getting roles almost every season. His current notable roles include, the guy every dude hates (just because he has a huge harem and still doesn’t realized it), Ichika from IS, aloof Kimimaro from C, egoistic Daryl from Guilty Crown, adorable Yuta from Kimi to Boku. and bishie youkai Gin from Hotarubi movie.

//.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Yoga Kimimaro ] [C]
[ Yan Daryl ] Guilty Crown
[ Gin ] Hotarubi no Mori e
[ Orimura Ichika ] Infinite Stratos
[ Asaba Yuuta ] Kimi to Boku.

——————————————————————-

[ 17 ] Sakurai Takahiro

Another versatile voice actor and a personal favourite of mine, the dude who can literally breath and sleep a character. Remember Masakaki from C? Didn’t he gave you the heebeejeebees just with his voice and popping out of different places? I don’t even remember the horrid CGI except for his glowing eyes, he also did a pretty crazy jack-of-all trade role in Katte ni Kaizo (yeah, that WTF OVA by Shaft), Agameki wasn’t bad in Otome Youkai Zakuro but the role that I would remember him this year would be of Yukiatsu from AnoHana.

//.kyokai

’11 Notable Roles

[ Matsuyuki Atsumu ] Ano Hana
[ Masakaki ] [C]
[ Katsu Kaizou ] Katte ni Kaizou
[ Coco ] Toriko
[ Agemaki Kei ] Otome Youkai Zakuro
[ Luke Banjou Crossfield ] Phi Brain

  1. Hime says:

    *supresses fangirl rage at Jun not being #1*

    • Ness says:

      Voting hasn’t started yet haha and the seiyuu’s are in no particular order. Calm down Hime-chan~ XD

    • Tofu says:

      Well it’s good news that Jun is now very much in the lead ain’t it Hime ^^

    • BlackBriar says:

      No need to worry, Hime. Right now, Jun is taking the lead so far. And taking the lead by a lot.

  2. Karakuri says:

    5 guesses as to who Hime’s first choice was

    Go Kamiyan~! Though Sakurai is a close second.

    …And where is the Ishida Akira love? He had some great roles this year!*CoughAkisecough*

    • Hime says:

      I’ll to be a little non-biased and say that Okamoto Nobuhiko has done really well this year and he is super cute!

  3. Yuki says:

    Aww, Kimura Ryouhei needs more love! (if only I can put all of my 7 votes to this guy or divide it with Nobuhiko and Uchiyama. lol.) But I think we can see who is already leading. It is a close competition! XD

  4. BlackBriar says:

    Here are my favorites in order:
    Nobuhiko Okamoto, Jun Fukuyama, Keiji Fujiwara, Yuuki Kaji and Hiroshi Kamiya.

    It’s funny that Keiji Fujiwara looks just like Ao no Exorcist’s Shiro.

  5. Namika says:

    Thank you, Kyokai, for giving us the ability to vote for 7 of them. Otherwise, I would die, deciding between Okamoto Nobuhiko and Jun Fukuyama. Thank you~ =w=

  6. Renn says:

    Miyano Mamoru and Daisuke Namikawa had some of their best work to date this year. I also voted for Ryohei Kimura, Yoshimasa Hosoya, and Kouki Uchiyama for their break-out year.

    VAs like Fukuyama, Ono, Nakata, Sakurai and Fujiwara are always awesome, but I didn’t think this year was anything special to them, so I didn’t vote for them. 😛

  7. Overcooled says:

    T-THAT’S WHAT NAKAMURA YUICHI LOOKS LIKE? He looks like the perfect man…Wow, I should really look up what seiyuu look like instead of just spending all my time distinguishing them by sound…*sighs contentedly*

    Yuki Kaji has really caught my attention this year, so he’s my number one pick. I started noticing him more and more in different anime, and I love his voice. Kamiyan is my favourite seiyuu, but he didn’t really have any notable roles this year (or at least, I didn’t watch anything with him in it, really). Maybe you’ll win my vote next year~

  8. Amutofan123 says:

    Whooo, yeah! Go Jun~

  9. Gecko says:

    Thank goodness I didn’t have to pick between all my favorites. 😀

  10. Reika says:

    I feel so horribly guilty when I see these kind of pools. Like, I’m betraying those I didn’t vote for or something orz

    My Order:
    Hosoya Yoshimasa – Kaji Yuki – Irino Miyu – Uchiyama Kouki – Kimura Ryohei – Sakurai Takahiro – Kamikya Hiroshi

  11. Zabobinator says:

    MMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOO~ <3 <3 <3

  12. obladi05 says:

    Mamoru Miyano <3 I watch shows only to hear him! hahha Jun Fukuyama too, his characters always make me laugh a lot because he is amazing! And Yuuichi Nakamura, after voicing Ringo and Gai, also deserves my vote 🙂

  13. anaaga says:

    Kamiya, Ono, Jun, Nakata Jouji, Sugita, Nakamura Yuichi – BIAS

    Konishi Katsuyuki – I was surprised how good he was at voicing the characters’ personality, from Oga’s annoying voice to Masamune’s deep voice.

  14. Kitty says:

    Really no big surprise that Jun is winning. I’m sure Kyokai rigged it somehow haha.

  15. kluxorious says:

    I was ready to rage when I found out that Sugita ain’t in the lead but then I saw who did and I thought… fuck that guy deserved it because honestly, Sugita has been pretty quite in 2011 🙁

  16. tatsuya says:

    Namikawa Daisuke …vote fool

  17. […] 2011 Year-Ender – Male Seiyuu […]

  18. Taka says:

    Fyi I’m not sure if you meant Katsuyuki Konishi was starring in Beelzebub as Oga or not, because Laxus is far from the star of Fairy Tail. In fact this year he has barely appeared since the end of the trial arc at the end of 2010.

  19. drmchsr0 says:

    No Tomokazu Seki
    No Nobuyuki HIyama

    So tempted to call your tastes crap…

    • Taka says:

      Forgive me, but what notable roles did Seki and Hiyama have this year? Seki has Daru and Tojo from Beelzebub I’ll give him that. Hiyama has…Madarame from Bleach? Maybe Hirano from HotD OVA.

      If you want to talk about a real overlook how about Shimono Hiro: Main in 30-sai, Ben-To, BakaTest 2, Dragon Crisis, KamiNomi 2, OreTsuba, and Utao no Prince sama; Supporting roles in Sket Dance and MitsuZo. Gotta say that’s a pretty good year for him too. Keima and Akihisa alone is probably enough but then “Hentai” in Ben-To kicking ass and impersonating Wakamoto.

      • tatsuya says:

        what do u mean by “Hentai” in Ben-To kicking ass and impersonating Wakamoto..i mean 4 all i know keima and akihisa is not enough

        • Taka says:

          Hentai aka Freak aka Satou Yoh. He impersonates his “father” in episode one (I think) who apparently sounds like Wakamoto Norio. Personally I think he had a better year than say Katsuyuki Konishi (whom I love) but only really did not have a great memorable year. They erroneously labeled Laxus who hasn’t had a major part in FT since last year so that leaves Oga (good), the guy from Sekai-Ichi (abstain), and Kenmi from Sacred Seven (BWAHAHAHAHA). You may only know a few of Shiro Himono’s roles but they were lead roles. And his supporting roles in MitsuZo and Sket Dance are quite memorable.

  20. Window says:

    The first time I heard Hosoya Yoshimasa from prince of tennis as Shiraishi Oh !! I really love his voice !! I’ve watched most of his works and finally I got a large picture of him THANKS!!!!!
