2011 Year-Ender: Anime EDs

Second in line for the Year-Ender event is Anime EDs. Vote Away~

——————————————————————-

Har de har. Another day and we are back with the ED goodness. You would ask, how did we come to this list? Well, some of us took a trip down memory lane and came up with nominations. Do check our honourable mentions as well because not every ED can be added to our voting list. This is in no particular order.
I thought nominating opening songs was hard but man, ending songs are just as hard to go by! I mean, who sits through all the ending songs from every anime they watch? I know that if I don’t like all 1-something minutes of a song, I’ll just be skipping it. But there’s some treasure here and there that our Meta Team (especially Foshizzel– who keeps forgetting to add in some lines) dug up.

So far, the 2011 Year-Ender: Anime OPs are out. Now check out these awesome ending songs and vote for the best~!

——————————————————————-

[ 01 ] [ Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko ] “Ruru” by Etsuko Yakushimaru

This ending follows mostly Erio walking around as little space ships fly around her, the best thing about this ending could be all of the bright colors and fantastic background artwork. Throw in a slow yet fun piano theme in the background with singing by Erio! And of course a few of us out there would notice right off the bat a random fan-service-style shots of Erio, thankfully those short moments do not ruin the final product.

[ SPRING ’11 ]

[ 02 ] [ Hourou Musuko ] “For You” by Rie Fuu

I remember the first time I heard this song, it really resonated with me with it’s meaning with the beautiful water-colour animation that became a signature for this show. Rie Fu really didn’t pull up emotions and it perfectly suited this brilliant story.

[ WINTER ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 03 ] [ Nichijou ] “Zzz” by Sayaka Sasaki

When ever I heard this song kick in after a great episode of Nichijou I always loved letting it play, we get to see most of the cast together flying through the sky! I really loved the whole water color look of this amazing ending. They even went so far to include three different versions of the some, like a cappella version.

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 04 ] [ Beelzebub ]
“Nanairo Namida” by Tomato n’ Pine // “Papepipu♪ Papipepu♪ Papepipupo♪” by Sasaki Nozomi

Nanairo Namida Show ▼

Papepipu♪ Papipepu♪ Papepipupo♪ Show ▼

Strange series right here! So many shots of a random naked baby! Both endings was really fantastic to watch, they changed all of the character designs and went for something completely different. The songs really worked wonders for me providing another song to spam on repeat for hours.

//.foshizzel

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 05 ] [ Ao no Exorcist ] “Wired Life” Kuroki Meisa

Wired Life is plain awesome. The video isn’t the most exciting thing to watch, but the song itself is a 5 stars (out of 5, obviously) affair. Electronica and anything of that sort is always welcome here.

//.overcooled

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 06 ] [ Tiger & Bunny ] “Mind Game” by Tamaki

Coming at the latter part of two-cour, this song really did a good job in building the humane side of the heroes. As you got to know more about each and every one of them, their relationship with each other grew as well. This is just about how their trust build, climaxing to the ending of coming out of the most averse situation, all a-okay.

//.kyokai

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 07 ] [ [C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control ] “RPG” by School Food Punishment

You have control! Whoa right off the ending video takes you on a very fast paced roller coaster ride taking you straight into the digital world of [C] which reminds me of watching Tron! The ending uses lots of bright colors and makes you feel like you are running with the main character. The song supplied by the ever popular School Food Punishment for knocking such out a amazing song to go along with the overload of extreme eye candy..

//.foshizzel

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 08 ] [ Un-Go ] “Fantasy” LAMA

From the second the piano starts to play, you can feel that this will be a good song right in your bones. There’s an almost mystical quality to the switch from the low voice of the male singer to the higher pitch of the female vocalist’s singing. This perfect contrast makes an already catchy song even more addictive. Heck, I haven’t even talked about how awesome the accompanying animation is!

[ FALL ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 09 ] [ Bakuman S2 ] “Monochrome Rainbow” by Tommy heavenly6

Solely for the song and this is Tommy heavenly6 we’re talking about! Of course this has to be chosen. Not only is this song so addicting, I listen to it at least 2 times a day on my drive to and from work.

[ FALL ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 10 ] [ Puella Magi Madoka Magica ] “Magia” by Kalafinan

This is brilliance of Yuki Kajiura that multiplies when Kalafina vocalize it. So, it was literally like the golden age of Kara no Kyoukai was back with this franchise; brilliant music and interesting storyline. Magia really built the tension and every one should know how brilliant Kalafina chorus is. I was reminded of Oblivious and not a lot of Kalafina songs do that. This is a keeper.

[ WINTER ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 11 ] [ Steins;Gate ] “Toki Tsukasadoru Juuni no Meiyaku” by Yui Sakakibara

Every time something WTF happened, this song was there to calm you down and think things through. With time travel theories being thrown left, right and center, this calming number really built the mystery around the series. Everyone who has watched till the end should understand the sequence now. :3

//.kyokai

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 12 ] [ Ano Hana ] “Secret Base” by Seiyuu Cast

This song usually plays after something dramatic that gets revealed during the series, the song always makes me think about something sad! Why? Because this series really pulls at your heart during some important moments. The biggest appeal of the actual ending would have be the visuals and character designs with the whole cast as their child selfs. I also love the fact the whole Seiyuu cast is singing this ending! Those are always cool when you get the actors involved in something like that.

//.foshizzel

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 13 ] [ Kamisama no Memochou ] “Asunaro” by Kenichi Suzumura

SuzuKen sure can sing. Is it because he dated Sakamoto Maaya and is now married to her, hmm? :3 This ending and even the album came out as a surprise for me and I thoroughly enjoyed whenever it played after an episode ended. JC Staff finally delivered with Kamisama no Memochou. It not only has good story but awesome music as well; don’t forget to check out the OST as well.

[ SUMMER ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 14 ] [ Natsume Yuujinchou San ] “Kimi no Kakera” feat. Miyamoto Emiri by Kousuke Atari

Aah, I love this series so much and when Atari returned to vocalize the ending sequence of San, I was ecstatic. He has already sung the first ending “Natsu Yuuzora” so his lilting voice really set well with the feel-goodness of the series. Brains Base really played well with the animation with the setting of night and Natsume spending some quality time with his family. Oh, this will so calm you down.

//.kyokai

[ FALL ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 15 ] [ No.6 ] “Rokutousei no Yoru” by Aimer

The bromance between Nezumi and Sion is beautifully displayed in this song where the two are sharing wonderful moments in the snow. Lets throw in some snow fights, long walks leaving prints in the snow and some good laughs. I especially enjoy how the song progresses from a slow rhythm and then goes up a few beats. As well, when that happens we see Nezumi throwing a snowball and Sion catches it but he’s in a separate location. With the scene changing from night to day, it’s all very touching and well.

[ SUMMER ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 16 ] [ Usagi Drop ] “High High High” by Kasarinchu

Another wondrous series that pulls at your heart strings and you face the sudden urge of adopting a child. I mean, Rin is SO CUTE and oh this story! You want a father like Daikichi, don’t you? Anyways, like the opening, the ending too is made of everything nice with cute animation, making you feel-good and HIGH like a bird… in a good way though!

[ SUMMER ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 17 ] [ Fate/Zero ] “Memoria” by Aoi Eir

By far, Fate/Zero has risen up on the popularity list with its awesomeness that has exceeded any expectations that I might have had for it. Along with that is not only a great opening sequence but an ending sequence that just makes you want to learn more about the servants by seeing their background. This is my first time listening to a song by Aoi Eir and by far, I like her voice. For sure, this song is on my playlist right after oath sign.

[ SPRING ’11 ]

——————————————————————-

[ 18 ] [ Mawaru Penguindrum ] “Dear Future” by coaltar of the deepers

So many remixes available that my ears go HNNGG after hearing most of them. The actual album too had many versions so suffice it with a remix as for the actual song, you can always watch any episode of first cour to listen to it. This was pretty brilliant and set well with the ever so changing storyline of this series.

  1. Jrow says:

    Tossed in votes for Hourou Musuko, Ao no Ex, Un-Go, Ano Hana, Kamisama no Memochou, No. 6 and F/Z.

    Un-Go and Ano Hana really stand out to me overall, but of the songs, “Wired Life” is my fave.

    • Ness says:

      I’ve never listened to Wired Life until now. The song is pretty catchy and I like the voice. Now if only I could check out the anime…>_>;

    • obladi05 says:

      I agree, Wired Life is my favorite from the list and the cover of Secret Base sounds really nice too. It’s a shame Junketsu Paradox didn’t make it though 🙁

    • Namika says:

      Wired life is definitely the most successful song out of all of these. *handshake*

  2. Miyu says:

    Aimer = Automatic Win for me. I love her songs because they’re so meaningful and touching ;_; and her deep husky voice is so ~atmospheric~ so definitely Rokutousei no Yoru is my favorite song here.

    Other than that I also liked RPG (SFP!! What more can I say?), Magia, Wired Life, Mind Game and Fantasy.

    • Ness says:

      Approved~! All good choices. I recently started watching No.6 (yeah I didn’t finish it) and listening through on Rokutousei no Yoru is enjoyable but so touching along with the scenes~ Now if I could actually finish watching the anime through

  3. Jay says:

    Choice # 9 got the wrong video, perhaps?

  4. Zabobinator says:

    Un-Go’s the best in my opinion. xD

    The T&B ED was also super awesome. I knew it was gonna be on the list.

    Also, I feel like I’m the only one who wasn’t wow-ed by the [C] ED. I liked the OP for that show way better. xD

  5. mo00odi says:

    No.6 is the best ED
    I love it

  6. BlackBriar says:

    My favorite ED goes to Fate/Zero’s “Memoria”. It’s totally likeable. At least choosing the EDs were a lot easier than the OPs.

    Second place goes to Ao no Exorcist’s “Wired Life”. I’m surprised Mirai Nikki’s ED “Blood Teller” or Guilty Crown’s ED Single “Departures” didn’t make the list.

  7. skylion says:

    I’m doing an honorable mention for the entire alternate ED catalog for Mawaru Penguindrum; with Ash (Grey) Wednesday and Private Girl at the top of that list.

  8. Dan-go says:

    I feel like the quality of EDs far outweighed the ops, i put down 2 similar songs, both ruru and ZZZ, relaxing, cute and uplifting what else could u want? maybe some randomness ala beezlebub ED, high high high, wired life and secret base complete my list.

  9. SPIRAL says:

    Fo, I love you.
    Nobody else agreed with me that Beezelbub’s ED Namida deserved a place on the best anime EDs of this year.

    I love you. >=D

    • Foshizzel says:

      Why thank you! Much love xD

      Yeah I liked that Beezelbub ED such a good song and amazing video.

      LOL Thanks!

      • SPIRAL says:

        Odd thing is that I don’t follow the series either. Am i the only one who watches every anime OP regardless whether or nor I’m watching a series.

        • Foshizzel says:

          True! Beelzebub is a odd series it takes a while to get into, but the fights are great! I just wish there were more….

  10. Bob from Accounting says:

    Three different versions of the what, Foshizzel? The Somme? I think one was enough. Anyway, Zzz is easily the best here (KyoAni are bastards for doing an ED change in Nichijou. Can you imagine the tears we all would have shed if Zzz had played at the end of the final episode. We would all have very keyboards. Or knees. Whatever).

    But I have to say, Wired Life over Take Off? You are sick, twisted people.

    • Foshizzel says:

      The song ZZZ has three different versions of the same ending they are listed on Anime news network.

      Zzz by Sayaka Sasaki (eps 1-6)
      Zzz (A cappella)” by Sayaka Sasaki (eps 7-9)
      Zzz (Bossa Nova)” by Sayaka Sasaki (eps 10-12)

      Sorry your song didn’t get picked, I liked both Endings for Ao no exorcist!

  11. Karakuri says:

    MAGIA.

    That is all.

  12. Moni Chan says:

    secret base is such a lovable song, especially if you know the back story of it.

    yay Zzz my ringtone for this month. I havent gotten tried of this ED yet. Which is probably why I don’t answer my phone.

    Dear Future’s remixes are so epic I have to listen to them at least 20 times a day

  13. anaaga says:

    Magia, Fantasy, and Memoria are definitely in my list.
    Surprisingly, I like Beelzebub’s ending too. It’s just so much fun although it doesn’t make sense

  14. Hoshi says:

    ~Woah, no Take Off? I am sad…
    (Though I do love Wired Life as well, but I just can’t ignore READY READY FOR THE TAKE OFF)

  15. Reaper says:

    Wired Life, Magia, Fantasy, Toki Tsukasadoru Juuni no Meiyaku, Secret Base, Memoria and now Dear Future (I admit, I’ve never heard it before since I never watched Drum but I’m going to marathon it!)
    Techno/Electric music is a must for me since the style can vary so much (hence Wired Life and Dear Future), but the darker songs like Magia, Toki Tsukasadoru Juuni no Meiyaku and Memoria are my favourite anywhere, anytime, but to offset it, a bit of lighthearted music like Secret Base and Fantasy are good to mix it up with.
    Have to say though, there’s probably more EDs than we could choose anyway, since they’re all AWESOME! The composers really put on their A game this year 🙂

  16. Hato-kun says:

    If RPG doesn’t win, I’ll be an angry Maori.

  17. Ceyrai says:

    Yay! Got to vote for Magia, Nanairo Namida, and Secret Base! I didn’t think Secret Base would be so popular, though, it’s topping the votes as of this post. I’m not fond of Papepi-whatever-it-is but Nanairo Namida is just so PRETTY I couldn’t not vote it. As for Magia – epic horror theme is epic. That is all.

  18. Namika says:

    Why is Kizuite, Zombie-sama in honorable mentions??? TT^TT that ed is so catchy !! 😀
    Though out of all of these my favorite are “Wired life”, “Monochrome rainbow” and “Magia”. my other 2 votes go to Denpa onna for such a cute and unusual idea, and for NO.6 =w=

  19. Yippy says:

    I wish I had the time back then to watch all the series on this list, otherwise I wouldn’t have just gone lazy and voted for the shows that I did watch. I did genuinely like Denpa Onna’s ED though. Simple and beautiful to watch-just the way like it.

    • Ness says:

      I know what you mean, I think about half the shows mentioned, I didn’t watch completely haha. But yes, the Denpa Onna ED is pretty nice. The voice is not only different but the animated sequence is amazing with it’s use of art and it just matches the whole theme of the anime
