Little Witch Academia – 04 & 05
Choose your character!
Welcome back to Little Witch Academia! I took a bit of a break due to some real life things come up, but anyway! I decided to do two episodes and boy these two episodes gave us some interesting character developments especially for Lotte in episode four and Akko and Amanda becoming friends through their dislike of Diana in episode five.
——————-
Episode 04
Extra Little Witches
I loved how Lotte smashed Akko’s face into the floor! Too funny.
D’awwww Lotte!
Panty and Stocking reference? They had a similar jeep…
Gotta have a Gendo pose.
Lotte was fantastic in this episode <3
Annabell voiced by Sumire Morohoshi
Bonus art
Episode 05
Extra Little Witches
Akko and Amanda aren’t best buds yet! Soon…
Diana channels Dio’s stand The World and reverses time.
Sucy you need to see a dentist.
Dat brofist!
Constanze doesn’t take crap from no dragons!
Interesting dragon! I hope we see more of him in the future.

Four: Of the two, I thought this one stood out more, with a stronger theme and more coherent plot. Having tried and failed to take over for an established writer, I think I know the feel? Nah, I’m making to much of myself, but I can see where both Lotte and Annabelle are coming from. When the story calls, you have to answer, or else it will drive you crazier than if you ignore it. That’s the writer. For the reader? I kinda like how you point out that with Lotte, in that if you like a thing, and really pursue it, you don’t’ have to follow it like a pro or the like.
Five: This one was nice…but felt weaker that the ones seen so far. The plot felt really sketchy. I know they have to portray the teachers with a few weakness in some light, or how else with the students shine. But this one was like a really bad fight scene or a really dull mystery. How do you make the hero look good? You make his opponents a bunch of doofuses. While the dragon wasn’t exactly a doofus, his motivation, the debt mentioned, Diana’s last minute save (even if they gave us the dragonese book up front) all of it seemed to undeveloped, and therefor not as interesting as it could have been. Constanze being a badass deserved a better story! I demand it! LOL.

Yeah Lotte’s view on Annabell was interesting! I love her outlook on staying a fan instead of wanting to follow in the footsteps of her favorite writer unlike Akko who wants to BE just like Shiny Chariot. That and I loved getting to see another side to Lotte! That was the best part for me and to see her caring side as she motivated Annabell to continue writing.
True on the weaker story for episode five I can fully agree, but I think it was just a setup to show off how characters like Constanze who seems use both magic and science unlike Fafnir who seems to rely fully on science and tech or is at least learning to adapt to that world? Course Akko’s comment might change Fafnir’s mind? Yeah I want an episode dedicated to Constanze! I’m curious why she wants to be a witch when she can use machines to accomplish the same things as magic.

Other than Akko, it’s been implied that all the Luna Nova students come from witch families. So I suppose Constanze is also from a witch family and is expected to study magic. But perhaps her goal (and maybe it’s the same for the rest of her family) is to combine magic and technology (Steam Witch?) in order to keep up with the times. What’s wrong with that? Maybe she’s using magic to power her technological devices. So I see her using a combination of magic and technology, rather than either alone.

Yeah cause Akko is the only non witch that they have mentioned at the school so yeah Constanze probably comes from a magic family? I just thought it was odd that she mixes in magic and tech? Seems odd, but I’m curious if they explain that later.
I’ve seen some call her type of magic = Magitech which sounds way cooler~

Yeah, Magitech is a better name than Steam Witch, it’s just the stuff she comes up with has a Steam Punk vibe.

WitchPunk!

I think Amanda is the witch punk.

Four: We got to hear Lotte sing and her character got some needed development. Plus Hanna and Barbara were out from behind Diana’s shadow. All was good.
Five: I liked Fafnir in this episode and how he was using the Internet and presumably online banking to amass his hoard. He’s keeping up with the times (unlike the staff at Luna Nova) and is the very model of the modern major dragon. Now that he has to repay the illegal interest he was charging Luna Nova, is something besides potatoes going to be served in the cafeteria?
I can see why Akko and Amanda would bond over their mutual dislike of Little Miss Perfect Witch. If Diana was more modest about her accomplishments she’d be more likeable and would have more fellow students than just her two toadies willing to associate with her.

Four: Yeah Lotte got her time to shine and standout as the not so quiet girl that we all assumed she would be.
Five: True on Diana, but I have a feeling her and Akko will become best friends before LWA ends or at least learn to respect each other? Hell even Amanda might warm up to Diana eventually.

Diana becoming friends with Akko and maybe Amanda. Well, lots of magical girl shows have a theme of enemies or rivals becoming friends. And considering all the girls in LWA who practice magic there’s a case to be made that it’s the ultimate magical girl show.

And the classic “the person you pick on becomes your friend” setup as well.

I choose Sucy over their universe’s version of Twilight.
POWUH: Meta Team and PreCure Mastah with 9203 comments
No debates there Twilight is da worst.

I wonder that that universe’s version of Magic School Bus is like? Would it last as many volumes (and yes, it was a series of books before it was a show)? Would fans debate over Lily Tomlin vs. Kate McKinnon?
POWUH: Meta Team and PreCure Mastah with 9203 comments
LWA’s version is probably the normal bus? Lol

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Sucy’s smile. Nothing. You can trust me because I’m Smiley.
POWUH: Meta Team and PreCure Mastah with 9203 comments
Oh I got no issues with it either! In fact we need more sharp teeth girls LOL
POWUH: Meta Resident with 1692 comments
Sucy’s teeth look like they’d be a match for Fafnir’s.

Diana is far and away the best character in the show. The way she talks may sound snobbish, but what she says isn’t snobbish. It’s just factual. Part of the reason that Akko and Amanda can’t stand her is because looking at her reflects their own pathetic failures right back in their faces. But rather than do something about that, Amanda would rather laze around and just scrape by, and Akko would rather speak in grandiose statements of fantasy and dreams, while not using the resources available to her to actualize them because it’s not easy or splashy enough.
There’s not a thing wrong with the way Diana acts. She’s just not written as the main character of the story, so she’s the ‘bad guy’.
POWUH: Meta Team and PreCure Mastah with 9203 comments
Yeah Diana is point out Akko and Amanda’s flaws, but at the same time in the broom race episode Diana was impressed by Akko’s determination to not give up so Diana can see some potential in Akko’s future even though we all know its going to take a while for that to actually happen.
I don’t think of Diana as “evil” or the “bad guy” shes written in a way that motivates Akko and other characters, but they don’t see it that way instead they take it as being looked down on which isn’t true at all.
