Danganronpa 3: Mirai Hen – 04

Danganronpa 300004

Fitness and facial hair to aspire to.

At least the plot has branched out from having everyone trying to kill Naegi, but the Future Foundation certainly seems to have some internal issues…

I guess Hagakure is considered part of the survivors (but as the anime pointed out, he’s on the outside because no one likes him). At least they finally covered that, but it’s going to be difficult for the traitor to murder him if no one ever goes outside the building…

Tengan turns out to be quite the badass. It’s just unfortunate that he was injured pretty badly with that fall. At least Munakata kind of recognized him in the end. I don’t know what this will do for Munakata’s relationship with Naegi, but maybe there’s some hope there. It’s also pretty ironic that the people who claim to be for hope like Munakata and Sakakura seem to be killing (or injuring, but more on that in a bit) more people than the Despair side. Tengan will probably be able to pull through here though, since if he died because of this injury, it wouldn’t even be close to the electrocution that the OP depicts.

What Munakata told Naegi makes a lot of sense though. The killer could stop whenever they wanted to and assuming that nobody investigates (which seems like it would be the case considering the actions thus far), the killer could walk away and corrupt the rebirth of the Future Foundation. This is definitely cause for concern, and it makes sense that the traitor would want Naegi left alive because he’s rather trusting and wouldn’t even question the survivors.

…Or at least that logic would make a lot of sense if they weren’t being broadcast. Maybe Monokuma lied about their actions being broadcast, but if it is the truth then the minute the Future Foundation survivors make it outside, couldn’t anyone who watched say “oh, it was actually this person who was killing everybody”? Maybe Munakata doubts that the broadcast is real though, and wants to be safe just in case. Plus he seems the type to trust no one but himself (plus Yukizome and Sakakura) anyways.

So Gekkogahara seems like the traitor at the moment. Well… more than just “seems”, since she’s being controlled by Monaca, the girl who’s probably Junko 2.0 (3.0 since AI Junko exists?) right now. It also seems like Gekkogahara is some kind of robot, which begs the question as to if a Gekkogahara Miaya ever really existed and if she did, when was she replaced? But even if these questions are new, at least some things have been kind of explained.

Seeing how Gekkogahara’s thing in the organization was apparently cyber security, it makes a lot of sense how easily it was for the system to get hacked from the inside. And also explains why she was seen turning the way she wasn’t supposed to (unless that’s just lazy animation direction), or how Gozu was killed when they were in that room together. Of course, there are other things too from the Ultimate Despair Girls game that make this connection between Gekkogahara and Monaca too. Like how both characters are in wheel chairs, and used a mascot (Shirokuma in the game and Usami in the anime) as part of their plot. …Okay, maybe Usami won’t be a huge part of whatever Monaca is planning, but by using the mascot that tried to protect the characters of the 2nd game, it automatically made Gekkogahara less suspicious. I guess their hair is pretty similar too with the way it grows.

At least Kirigiri seems to be finally investigating things now, since she has gone back to Yukizome. Maybe with whatever she figures out (like say, Gekkougahara being the culprit) she can bring everyone together in a logical way that can fill out and support what Naegi has been trying to say. Oh, and also catch the traitor since no one else seems to have been working on that yet. But aside from her usual powers of deduction, Kirigiri had a good moment with Mitarai this week (with Asahina too), when she encouraged him. Not everyone can be Naegi, but the important thing here I think is that he’s trying to be hopeful and help others. I also just realized this episode that the Mitarai in the Zetsubou arc is just the Ultimate Imposter pretending to be this Mitarai. Not that we’ve seen the imposter anywhere lately.

Danganronpa 300002

Finally, there’s still drama between Andou and Kimura. Their problems still seem to be totally different from what everyone else is concerned about, but there was more information given this time about how they both seemed to get each other expelled from Kibougamine. I guess their survival makes sense if they weren’t in the school at the time of the Tragedy, but since they weren’t really part of the school, how come the Future Foundation wanted them? I guess depending on how and why they were expelled are factors.

It’s kind of surprising that they would reveal the traitor this early on, but I guess that makes things really interesting from now on. So far Monokuma hasn’t even really shown up since all of the conflict has been happening between the members, so he hasn’t even really needed to motivate them towards murder. It should be interesting to see how long it is before the characters go on before discovering (or even trying to discover) who the traitor is.

With all the restrained animosity between the members finally given room to circulate, it’s a wonder how the Future Foundation managed to function at all. With the abandoning of the classroom trials, everything honestly feels more fluid.

Tengan was the episode’s Dark Horse and made a big impression. In light of the abilities he displayed against Munakata and Sakakura, he had to be something very important in his younger years. After getting impaled from that fall, I’m not giving him much hope in surviving. The strange part is him acting as though it’s nothing serious.

All the more reason to stay on guard. This explains the one responsible for Gozu’s death but if the reveal is made this early, then it means something else is being lined up. Who knows? There might be more than one traitor. I haven’t played the game but am aware a handful of people are repulsed with Monoca’s appearance. Mainly due to her personality and reputation.

Yeah, it has been pretty ridiculous thus far. Maybe it’s good that they had this happen, since the organization was probably pretty dysfunctional even before this. Though maybe Munakata has become so unhinged due to Yukizome’s death.

Having more than one traitor would be really interesting! Plus it would be pretty sad on the Future Foundation’s part…
