Tia-“Your smile could have saved our series Rena!”

winter15-foshFor those confused why I added the end to this you should read Anime News Networks post on Regalia being canceled after only four episodes due to it not being up to quality standards which blows my mind especially when Thunderbolt Fantasy is considered “anime” then again does anyone really care about this series? I’m sure there are a few and personally I wanted to see what this series had up its sleeve for the big reveals, but ah well I guess we will see what September has in store for the “rebooted” Regalia and what changes they can add to improve it and yes they will be starting with episode one when it returns.

Gotta love that odd “battle” from episode three.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

cancelled? what does an anime have to do to be cancelled? i am shocked this has happened? with all the tons of crap out there you’d think you’d hear about shows being cancelled more often (you know, besides some of the long running series’ like toriko and the such)

    • Highway says:

I don’t know if I’d call it ‘cancelled’, it’s more postponed or hiatus or suspended. And I think that it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do, if you think the hit to your reputation is going to be worse to put out a crappy show, then you take the hit for not getting it done badly.

And it’s all about expectations matching up to production. Girls und Panzer had two situations where they delayed episodes, even waiting 3 months to get the last two episodes aired, because of quality issues. But then there’s stuff like this week’s QCode, which was just awful. Is Regalia worse off for not joining the ranks of Wizard Barristers and now QCode? Probably not. Once the QUALITY genie is out of the bottle, you can’t ever put it back in.

      • HannoX says:

A lot will depend upon what they do to improve the quality for their return. Take your example of Girls und Panzer. When they returned the final two episodes didn’t just knock the ball out of the park–they put it into orbit.

      • Foshizzel says:

Well the article stated it’s going to start back from episode one which kinda tells me they are redoing the entire thing so I count it as being technically cancelled a hiatus series wouldn’t require then to start over with episode one if it was a true hiatus it would return and start back up with episode five.

Yeah I’ve heard the GuP thing a few times;however that isn’t the same as this Regalia situation because GuP didn’t start completely over from episode one, but if were just talking quality yeah i’m sure studio didn’t want low quality and decided to wait which sorta makes me think back on old Bakemonogatari how we had to wait on certain arcs because Shaft wanted great looking episodes.

        • Highway says:

I think that’s just for continuity purposes. They’re so early in the season that it would be hard for people to pick it up and know what’s going on, so I’d imagine they’d want to show these first episodes again just to get people into it again. I would doubt there’s going to be too much that they change to the ones already broadcast. Plus, if they’re going to start over at the end of September, that’s the start of a new cour as well, and starting from episode 5 would leave the broadcasters with an empty time slot at the end of the season.

        • HannoX says:

Since GuP only had two episodes left when it went on hiatus it wouldn’t have made sense to start over with Ep.1. Besides, there was really nothing wrong with the earlier episodes. IIRC, the issue with GuP was that someone fell down on the job and it was either broadcast something substandard or delay it to get it done right, which also meant waiting several months for an open time slot.

It may be that Regalia won’t make any changes or only very minor ones to the first 4 episodes. The issue could be that the quality was going to suffer going forward if the studio didn’t get more time to work on the following episodes. So take the criticism for the delay, but put out the work you want to be known by.

          • Highway says:

It’s reputed that the first delay for Girls und Panzer was when someone flashed panties as the girls stood near the Kuromorimine helicopter with fluttering skirts, requiring a significant retake. That caused the use of a clip show, and they decided to do another clip show later in the season to fill out the broadcast run, to have the final two episodes run on concurrent weeks.

The production staff must have very high standards and must have interesting connections to the broadcasters they have contracts with. I mean, you just can’t yank a show from a schedule and expect a broadcaster to not get cranky in some fashion. For me, I thought the character and mech animation were just fine. The story was a bit bogged down here and there as I found it hard to care much about “nation at peril” plots when most of it is tossed at me like they did; supporting cast members sitting around talking about stuff in “serious tones”.

So, I guess every time something new is done a demon is unleashed, so this is bound to get all sorts of attention both deserved and undeserved…

    • HannoX says:

I was watching it and was probably going to watch it through to the end, but that was because of the cute girls. The story was nothing to write home about and the mecha battles were ho-hum (but I’m not a mecha fan so my opinion there might not count for much). So if the studio thinks they can do better I’m all for them suspending it and coming back anew and hopefully improved.

      • skylion says:

I’m in pretty much the same boat as you..right down to not being a huge mecha fan as well. But…I saw martial arts and magic animation with a robot aesthetic…that feels only tangentially mecha…so…yeah. I’m hoping this sort of practice makes some of the studios think a little clearer about release schedules.

      • Foshizzel says:

As a huge mecha fan the fights weren’t the best, but compared to what I’ve seen over the past few years Regalia is decent! If you’re looking for high quality mecha battles try StarDriver, Eureka Seven, Gundam Build fighters and maybe Majestic Prince.

I honestly don’t know what kind of improvements they can do? I feel the characters and story are the weakest elements about Regalia! Rena is boring and Yui is dumb so maybe they should fix that? IDK I am curious to see what the “reboot” is like.

End?…I should consider it an intermission instead!

So yeah, We had it coming, i guess it tough luck for them, still while there at it, There is still had an upper hand for that! but who knows

No doubt this is a Internal Problem (IE: Studio Complications) Rather than a External one (IE: to Favor an important coverage and cancel one EP, remember this one) But at least i understand the problems here, Let’s see now,
    Characters: Well, A OK
Mechanical: Fighting scene is OK, but i kinda doubt on this sometimes
Story lines: Kinda Bogged out but acceptable
Background: Hmmm…i kinda doubt on this really
Also this show lacks CGI…Anyone out there…i was thinking that at the beginning of the 4th EP it seems like the vehicles are just hand drawn on a low level at least. Overall, i agree that this need to reinstated in a better quality, it would take very long, i heard that this will re air on September 1 and back to first EP.
    So yeah, i would

    • Foshizzel says:

Like I said above to Highway a hiatus or intermission wouldn’t require them to completely start over from episode one if it was a intermission they would continue right off with episode five.

Oh I’m sure its the Studio and possibly the original creators of Reglia, but yeah it’s a surprise that this mess is going on…and compared to the other series this season Regalia is far from the lowest quality! I mean come on we got actual live action puppets and a show about cats mixed with bananas…

Yes when it comes back Regalia is basically starting fresh with episode one so we shall see if anything improves.
