Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma✫Illya 3rei – 4ierte

Pure Fanservice Part One

It took them a while to get here, but the Silver Link adaptation finally plows through the filler material and arrives to the good stuff...and no, not the fanservice…

She will have you stay after school…

…which isn’t to say that dressing Illya up as the various and previous characters seen in the larger Fate franchise is without merit. It’s a huge amount of fun, and here they manage to tell us quite a bit without really damaging the narrative all that much. So once the clatter has died down, we can get to the heart of the matter. Which is really much the same thing that the story has never once wavered from it’s first time around. It is still very much the story of a somewhat sheltered girl that is frightened of the pain of growing up and having to own the follow up to her decisions. Which is the near polar opposite of the Einzbern tyke-bomb that was built for F/SN/UBW. Or to put it in real terms, someone with a real life…in so much as a homunculous can have? Yeah, it’s a stretch but that’s the story…

But….Illya already got to her heart

One of the things I appreciated the most about this episode was how well they explored the comparisons and contrasts between both of the main characters/combatants, then sealed the deal and got them on the same page by the end. The first big notion that came along was Kuro’s removal of Shared Pain Curse. Of course the ideals that are hiding in plain sight are far more fascinating than the magic behind it. But far and away from a sign of danger Illy could take it as, this has signaled a great degree of acceptance on Kuro’s part, as well as being a gesture that acknowledges a few things. That acceptance is the most important facet to consider…she’s now going along willing, no longer subject to the compulsion via the threat of pain. But at the same time it clearly states that she is no longer willing to be hurt by any sort of thoughtlessness. My loyalty to you isn’t as blind as you think, is what she most wants to convey. She needs to be a willing participant…that’s important for part of the wider story. That she could remove it all along?…that’s icing for a later cake…

Kuro’s weapon is a pale imitation…another important 3rei notion….

After that, they managed to just pile on the references, but with somewhat subtle touches here and there to expand Illya’s character. First was the unfortunate Lancer, the forlorn love idiot that often hits first without thinking, and has to pay the price. Can Illya live with a choice she can’t take back? The story shuffled that idea in and out rather quickly, making the point of getting to the heart of something in a complex manner, then moving on. I also have to remark at how much they just leaned into the silly fanservice of her Lancer!Illya outfit. WTH! It’s nothing but a total and complete embarrassment! Being Lancer is suffering. Of course, Rider!Illya as Medea manages to wrap things up in a tidy chain. But all it really does is bring Illya closer to Kuro’s point. From there is takes the real hero of Saber!Illya to realize what she was building to. But, did the show’s script mess that up? Hopes and dreams in a sword? For now that’s enough…so you guys should use spoiler tags if you’re going to discuss…

So, the Cards provide a great degree of both serviceable reference points to the wider franchise, and some foreshadowing for the 3rei story as a whole. But as I’ve stated, they are important bits to our characters understanding of themselves and their adversaries. As Gil tries to point out, they’re a cheat, a substitute for the real thing, and by some logic so is he. The Ainsworth Holy Grail has yet to be put into practice, so that means Miyu is safe. As Kuro points out, it’s her own sense of self and her bravery that keeps her safe, and that’s the point of light that will guide Illya in the future. So for all they do spell out in so far as exposition goes, they still are keeping some cards close to the vest. So see you next time for the onsen fanservice…

Think you mean Lancer!Illya and being Lancer is suffering, because Kuro is Archer-Illya.

    Please teach me Kuro-Sensei!

From having kuro explain multi-earth to wake-up training with illya & “that” good grief what else?

Yet more i watch still can’t resist whole compare with flash s2 whole multi-eartn storyline doing for illya s4.

Indeed this is all onore barry allen for timeline mess-up & flashpoint s3.

I have to admit I lost interest in the Flash TV show cause it got way to anxious to go multi-verse. I lose interest after way to many Villain Speedsters…to much watering down the soup….

Flash got really good in the second season especially with the multi-dimensional story centered around earth 2 which basically turned all the heroes into villains! Yeah Flash gets a lot of flack because both main villains of each season are speedsters.

That said season two’s evil speedster had a better story because he was killing other speedsters by jumping from alternate worlds and absorbing their powers so he could gain even more speed! Season one’s evil speedster simply hated Barry.

S3 is going to be a whole new story if you’re familiar with the Flashpoint comic or seen the animated DC movie about it which is kinda awesome.

This episode did a lot better with making the fighting relevant and interesting. Perhaps because it was a Fight Among Friends, or to get a point across, but it didn’t take too long and then it was actually finished, not just interrupted or hiatus.

Maybe there was a little bit too much classroom explanation, and a little bit too much handwaving about “Oh yeah, we’re here too, but everyone’s been here for different times.” But overall this was a much better episode than the first 3, imo.

It’s an easy trope for most audience members, the Fight Among Friends. Cause most people don’t really have enemies, but pretty much all of us have, at some point in our lives, a friend we want to smack. Now most of us don’t do that, so it’s up to fiction to give us that vicarious thrill. But in this case it goes levels deeper, cause this is family, Illya and Chloe. That’s it weird that one is a homunculus, and the other is a magic future clone(?) is just icing on the cake.

…yeah…at least Chloe/Kuro was cute when she explained things, and they had the Bazzett doesn’t fit in the chair joke…I hope they kick it into higher gear soon…

It’s not the first time an anime chose to create a heart to heart conversation through combat instead of words. At least Kuro got her point across.

Damn! I forgot this show was known for epically lewd kiss scenes, all instigated by Kuro. Well, this latest smooch served as reminder and that leg crossing part was the finisher!! Good thing she’s been behaving more like a sibling to Illya after a while. There was a time I felt she saw her as nothing more than a mana recharging station.

So yeah, “here is what happened and this is what we are up against so lets have a little duel and some ‘refreshing’ heart to heart bonding shall we?”

Not too bad of an episode, and we already covered the fiht among friends which is a nice change and really kept it nice and short.

Three outfits in one session! awesome, Lancer outfit was a bit silly hehe, Rider was ok. But that Saber one was perfect look for illya! yay she did it! must draw it, in some awesome pose.. soon.

So Beatrice is Thor, I sorta figured it would be that hero,I mean that thunder hammer is a dead give away hehe. It’s is an interesting choice for the Fate universe, it makes me wonder what other hero’s we will find in the future with this one. I can’t really think of any others id like to see though..=D

And Wooo Saber made out with Archer! hawt.. I mean wait.. these girls, tisk tisk… So looks like an info dump episode with fanservice as a reward for sticking though it ehh.. I’m seeing a thing here! anyways fate has been determined, we will be here to watch and comment on the next episode! (I tired to end it clerverly..)

You really have to leave the cheap jokes to professionals; OK I should too, I really should….

Now recall that Gil said that these are thin slices of the respective personalities we’ve seen so far in other places. So it’s not so much Archer making out with Sabre as it is….well, same as it ever was!

So yeah, Thor. I hope you’re not expecting Heimdall or the Warriors Three? I mean, that would be cool…

I wasn’t a big fan of the Lancer outfit (I mean I had to be corrected about the name!), as it’s just stupid looking. I didn’t think anyone could actually make regular old Fate/SN/UBW Lancer’s outfit look acceptable! But Hiroyama and Silver Link did!

      • thorgriim says:

So yeah, Thor. I hope you’re not expecting Heimdall or the Warriors Three? I mean, that would be cool…

Ya those might be fun to see hehe. I guess King Arthur in’t really a god so I don’t know why I kept thinking it has to be a god teir character hehe just someone from history or something.

I’m not sure who i’d like to see become a fate hero, even though I said I wonder who else they have join at this point. Maybe a World of warcraft god? but that is really scraping the bottom of the barrel and quite silly, Heck Shinobu is my hero she could become a card! but no i got nothing! sorry! forgive me Skylion senpai~

        • skylion says:

No forgiveness til you try harder! LOL!

Well, once upon a time Thor was perhaps a historical character, then became a god? Same could happen to Arthur in 1000 years? Same could happen to Superman? Fiction is weird…

Shinobu would be a crazy Class Card…I guess she’d be Rider?
