The last MetaFAP of 2015~
Well it’s finally time to say good bye to the fall MetaFAP on Metanorn! As for the winter season I don’t know if we will have anything for that to throw into one of these posts, but we shall see!

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid – 11 & 12 END [NSFW]

With the start of episode eleven we get a tiny peek into the backstory of Mirei or as she was called C7 and Momoka was called A3 and they were both experimental arms back in the day! I just gotta ask the most important question of all…how did Mirei suddenly get blonde hair? Because the tiny flashbacks of her past at that messed up lab clearly show her with black hair. Maybe she is secretly a super sayjin?! Anyway for the most part these two episodes revolved around Mirei trying to rescue Mamori who was kidnapped by Momoka who immediately gets her freak on with her new “friend” just to turn her into the ultimate sword that sucks people into some tentacle filled dimension? What? Sure why not! The best parts of these two episodes was watching all the other characters team up with Mirei at the end to save Mamori, but the final episode was awesome thanks to Mirei’s cool magical girl power-up aka every other magical girl final episode ever complete with a white overpowered outfit; however that stupid helmet accessory made the whole outfit look so damn goofy! Also I laughed when Momoka’s boss was like OH MY GOD SHE TOOK THE POWER FOR HERSELF?! LOL did they honestly think she wouldn’t do that? So yeah the final fight was cool, but I feel this whole story basically boiled down to Momoka being all butt hurt and jealous that Mirei got a brand new girlfriend and she basically held that grudge and plotted revenge against her? Then again there are a lot of anime series out there with similar plots.
I love Kasumi’s arm form! Reminds me of Tsubasa from Symphogear.
Overall I had a lot of fun with Valkyrie Drive, I knew nothing about it and originally I just assumed it was going to be a mixture of Soul Eater and Queens Blade mashed together and most part it took certain aspects of those two series and threw in some other things like Minami who was basically a damn titan, but at least the main characters were somewhat interesting to keep me watching even though personally I wanted more Meifon because she was easily the most fun to watch and I would throw in Momoka as my second favorite character who was just plain CRAZY for the sake of being crazy, but that made her a entertaining villain. Story wise Valkyrie Drive isn’t exactly the most original as far as concepts go, but you gotta give them some credit for sticking to what it does best as in ecchi and boy was there a lot! Unless you followed the censored version? Either way they took that silly element and made things fun.
8/10 needs another boob filled season!

Ah well, before we go forward, we sometimes must go back. So until we get a batch of the Winter 2016 shows, we have to dip our toes back into one more program. So, how did Shomin end up?
We’ve come to keep the plot going….
Well, to use the most precise of adverbs, it ended rather terribly. To be sure, the show did little else but limp from week to week, but it did look rather charming as it was moving along. At best I could say the show was misguided, at worst it was mismanaged. These last two episode are proof of the later. I have to say the reluctant bride trope is already a fairly dead one, so any storyteller that takes it on has to to able to bring something else to the table.
Now, to be sure, the way it did end up ,with Kimito, pretty much a declared groom, was a nice twist, but the getting there was another story. I really cannot believe it took two episodes to set this up and develop. Everything felt flat, unjustifiable, and uninspired. Drones aren’t funny or even that interesting, Karen was pretty much misused, and neither Aika nor Hakua had anything to do other than the thing they do; Hakua does her hacking, Karen does her swording and getting naked, and Aika…is Aika….
So, now we, the ones that were looking forward to this adaption, are left scratching our heads wondering what happened. To be honest, I couldn’t tell you what was up, and why this show came out being some bland in some points, and off the mark in others. Direction is the first place you lay the blame, and that does seem to be the safe bet. But, I’ll put the onus on Silver Link themselves. This was their sixth production this year, and on of three they aired this season. While it’s true that a few other studios did help out, that is still to many plates for any studio to keep spinning and expect quality work. Just taking a look back at the year, it’s obvious which productions they loved best. It wasn’t Shomin that’s for sure.
It’s almost time to “gets” outta here…

Seriously, though. After all the time the show has spent, now they choose to put in a scene like that?! That seems pathetically desperate for extra attention if you ask me.

When someone makes a sundae; I have to have icecream (boobs), chocolate sauce (kissing), whipped cream (bottoms), banana (there’s no way I could complete this metaphor…tongue? maybe?), and sprinkles (saliva–yes, got the metaphor back). We have to also have the cherry on top (tentacles). I don’t really need the cherry, but for the sake of completion, go ahead and put the cherry on it. This is not the best metaphorical sundae is it?

Shomin Sample is definitely in the list of “shows that should have been better.” I don’t know if you blame it on the scenario writer, the script writer, the director, or who, but it was easy to see that the parts were there: the characters were mostly likable, the stories could have had depth, and the setup had comedy and warmth in it. And whatever they did to it, it just ended up flat. Everything too drawn out. Bad jokes held too long. What could have been good jokes killed by soft-pedaling the payoff. Things that were completely pointless taking over the episode. Every time Karen came in chanting 下らない!下らない!(“kudaranai! kudaranai!”) I felt like nodding and agreeing.
I don’t think I was as disappointed by it as the people who were anticipating it after liking the manga, but I think it disappointed everyone who watched.

As the old saying goes: if it weren’t for disappointment, Shomin would have no appointment, but your assessment is correct. For me it barely misses out on the worst of the year, but fits right in with worst of the season (along with a few other shows I posted for this Fall), as far as potential not met…

Shomin sample relied too much on its only selling point and did not flesh itself out. Yes, nekkid LOLis are fine in moderation but too much can be a bore.

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid – 11 & 12 END [NSFW]: A flashy end to one hell of a guilty pleasure show and definitely worthy of the tag “NSFW”.
You can tell when a series wants to go out with a bang. Mirei and Mamori’s fusion came out of nowhere but manages to work itself in since the story was never subtle. Minami being able to shift her size is one of those testaments and the reveal was just as unexpected and absurd. Kasumi using her Arm was one of my awaited things to see. Better late than never but I wish situations would’ve been arranged for her to use it sooner.
Among other things, Momoka really got under skin since her brief introduction to the series. A lot faster than what I felt towards Charlotte and that is disturbing. Whenever I saw her roaming around, doing as she pleases without repercussions and being a total bitch, it made me want to jump in and wring her scrawny neck. Having the virus extracted out of her and getting arrested was too light for consequences in my book.

Things just have too end on a flashy-over-the-top-NSFW-moment! That’s just how Valkyrie Drive Mermaid rolls and that is probably why it was a lot of fun to follow every week because the people behind it aren’t looking to win any awards and are doing whatever they wanna do.
That fusion was coooool, but like I said the helmet threw me off and I can agree with characters like Minami running around things get a bit weird; however it also keeps things interesting given that the arms literary come in all shapes and sizes! Hell Minami is probably the most OP of the series if she ever learned to fight without being so scared of everything. I’m with you on wishing Kazumi used her powers a bit more…
IDK man I love Momoka and how crazy she was especially when Charlotte got owned by her? About damn time somebody set her in her place! If anything Charlotte was easily by far the most “annoying” character to deal with, but personally I did not care for Mirei or Mamori in fact I got p bored with them around episode 5 and 6…
