Dimension W – 02

Cute giant hat~

winter15-foshAfter seeing the first episode of Dimension W I couldn’t wait to see the second episode and this week were getting more little clues here and there about Kyouma’s past which is great! Then again, I know most of us were more invested in Mira’s story and she was quickly debated as being the true main character of this series; however I have a feeling that both of their stories will be somewhat related thanks to the coils.

Losers are winners

DimmW (4)

Loser is quite the character.

Before we jump into some of this episode I want to talk about the character nicknamed Loser, but why does he have that silly name in the first place? I guess in this world he’s some kind of pro thief; however Loser is known to broadcast his heists for everyone to see by hacking nearby communication devices and with the advertising he gains from these crazy jobs he donates the money to the victims? I guess in that sense he’s basically a futuristic Robin Hood? That said he hasn’t been very successful at stealing any artwork and that’s how he got the nickname Loser? Of course if you saw the episode you would know that wasn’t the case because Loser is actually looking for “numbers” which I can only assume are a type of illegal coils or the numbers are part of a big weapon? We also learned more information on Loser like the fact that he lost his face, arms, legs and his wife on that day? Damn I can see why he chooses to wear a mask and walk around looking like a robot and I guess that means Loser isn’t a bad guy from Dimension W like I originally thought, but he’s also a victim which has set him on the path of revenge against New Tesla.

Mira Joins the team!

DimmW (2)

Mira’s high jumps are great, but bad for drivers.

Yes we get a tiny flashback with Mira explaining to the others that her father gave her orders to find the illegal coils after he “died” I still think hes alive on the other side especially after we saw that tiny black hole appear last week which made me think he simply got sent to dimension W, but at the same time we don’t really know if it’s possible to survive on the other side. I assume we will find out sooner or later especially if Mira and Kyouma’s stories lead them in that direction, but aside from that theory in my head we got even more info on the day Mira was created, along with the footage of the mother and daughter being killed which disturbed Marie who immediately ordered it to be erased! I’m also starting to think that maybe Mira isn’t really isn’t Dr. Yurizaki’s daughter after all? But hey that theory might hold up or fall apart once we learn the truth from her creator himself if he’s still alive that is. I liked how Mira figured out where the hijacked signal was coming from after turning into Spider-man or some other jumping hero maybe Jessica Jones who jumps real high, but she also has to keep her secret of being a robot like saying her hair antennas are just normal hairpins? Sureee they are! I’m just happy that Mira is proving to be somewhat useful instead of being the suck at everything Milinda type from Heavy Object.

Kyouma’s past?

DimmW (3)

Did anyone else survive besides Kyouma??

Well we only get a tiny peek into his past thanks to Loser who told us about a legendary unit from the last war called Grendel and Kyouma is one of the survivors of that unit? And by survivors I guess Loser is probably talking about the illegal coils and how New Tesla is hiding the fact about them exploding and sending you to another dimension or causing your organic body to fuse to machines!? Yeah I can totally see why New Tesla keeps those facts hidden from everyone.

Extra Dimensions

Dawwww~

Think of the children!

Awwww yeaah! It’s party time!!

DimmW (9)

Ba-dum-tish I got jokes for days.

DimmW (5)

It kinda looks like a W!

End Thoughts

header-winter15-fosh

Another fantastic episode! So far Dimension W is leaving us enough clues to keep us guessing like Loser’s explanation of Grendel? I’m curious to see if there are any more survivors from that legendary unit, but I’m going to guess probably not? If so were going to have a lot of revenge seeking characters that want to destroy New Tesla! So what did you think of Loser voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura aka Houtarou Oreki from Hyouka, Tomoya From Clannad and Kodata from Durarara? So is Loser a cool character to you or not really? I think he’s interesting, but I think if you’ve seen one revenge themed character in anime or any movie then you’ve pretty much seen them all or does him being a thief add to the cool factor? I think it does and I know we haven’t seen the last of him. Besides the new guy it was cool seeing Mira take action even though Kyouma hasn’t taught her a damn thing about collecting! I mean sure the concept of collecting is kind of self explanatory so she doesn’t really need “training” for that part, but locating and tracking the illegal coils? Yes she definitely needs help with that.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

if the ed of this series can be taken literally, then it means that we’ll be seeing mira in hand-to-hand combat some time soon. I do like how she is just as useful as kyouma is to whatever situation is happening around them

Easily becoming a favorite on my list this season.

I don’t know what I see New Tesla like more: The Umbrella Corporation (Resident Evil) or the Shinra Electric Power company (Final Fantasy VII). Both like to keep nasty little secrets from the public.

Aside from Kyouma’s undeniably badass moves, I’ve been focusing more on his wirework. The guy’s had anti-Titan training. But I see no 3D Maneuverable Gear. 😉 Considering what we can see him doing now, no way he had a civilian style past.

“Loser” is such an ill-sounding name for a character that doesn’t look it and strikes me as one in the neutral area rather than an antagonist. So many vibes he gives off at once: Darth Vader (Mechanical limbs and a mask concealing his disfigured face), “V” from V for Vendetta (Also a mask hiding a disfigured face and a grudge against an organization that wronged him) and the general, external appearance of Persona 4’s Izanagi. Yuuichi Nakamura is good fit. Though he expresses a range of emotions, he can still maintain a decent composure.

The aftermath of the Dimensional Collapse was horrifyingly grotesque. To be honest, that museum curator brought that fate upon himself. First off is already using illegal coils, items he knew nothing about and in his haste, he went messing with them. Personally, he may have been better off dead considering the circumstances. 5 days to ascertain the extent of the damage and 8 months with little chance of repairing it. All simply in estimation. In light of what he’s become, that’s no way to live and there’s no guarantee New Tesla will pay him any mind at all.

My theory is since they’re illegal coils, they’re incomplete and unstable compared to the official ones New Tesla manufactures, turning red when on the point of overloading. In other words, illegal coils are ticking time bombs. Someone sure is determined to keep secrets if it’s taboo even in the underworld to know where they’re being made.

  3. IreneSharda says:

    Well, that was pretty great.
At first I was kind of disappointed in Loser, that he was simply some flamboyant showcasing inept thief that was in it just for the show rather than the actually being good at stealing. I couldn’t understand why he had so many fans.

However, now that I know he has a bit of depth about him, and how he pretty much lost everything to New Tesla, I find myself liking him and his son a whole lot more. Also, we find out that he has been quite the success, but he just happened to be stealing something completely different.

Finding out about pieces of Kyouma’s past through slightly clunky exposition was cool too. He did look like he came out of a 90s comic book when they showed him with his team those years ago. I wonder how Loser knows about all that. Was he on a similar team at one point?

And then there is the fact that Kyouma seemed to know the old professor’s wife as he asked specifically about her, so that’s interesting. Also, it looks like Mira was created before the daughter’s death, so now I’m thinking that she’s separate from the daughter after all.
It’s interesting that Mira has proof of the murder and who did it, but the professor never came out with it. Was it just that Tesla was too strong or was there other reasons?

That dimensional collapse was ugly, and I can see now why coils can be so dangerous.

We now have two new things to deal with in that there’s this new thing in numbered coils and there is also the fact that nobody seems to know where illegal coils come from, which I find rather odd. There has to be an origin point. Somebody must know.

      Appearances can be deceiving.

Losing his arms, legs and his wife. No way would that be absorbed nicely. Not to mention behind his mask. He’s got it worse than Harvey Dent/Two-Face. At least he still has his son to keep his sanity intact.

I don’t know if it’s the very small math part of me that’s connected to the science part of me, but…

The way they’re showing it, isn’t this supposed 4th dimension (W) really just an extension of the 1st dimension (X)?

    • Highway says:

Do not get me started. They’re just showing more X-axis. Although I will say that projecting a non-spatial direction in 2-D is very difficult, if not impossible

    • Foshizzel says:

Oooooh I’ve heard a few make that comment as well on Facebook lol silly people applying real stuff to anime! It’s like people who complain about how certain mechs work in anime vs IRL…yeah…

      • BlackBriar says:

I know, right? Applying real world logic, laws and physics in anime is an option, not an obligation. That the beauty of anime itself: An escape and not needing to be grounded by such things. Silly people. 😉

    • BlackBriar says:

I don’t know if it’s the very small math part of me that’s connected to the science part of me, but…

Resist the urge, Irene, and just go with the flow.

      • IreneSharda says:

I can’t help it if every episode they decide to show a regular Cartesian coordinate plane, and then somehow try to show that the X axis is only limited to one direction from the origin, but the other direction they renamed “W”.

        This is elementary school stuff!

It doesn’t bother me since the story is so good, but I wish they had just not shown the axis in an effort to “explain” what the W dimension was, and just said that they discovered some dimension through some technobabble machine, end of story. It’s as simple as that. Sci-fi shows have been doing it for years. In fact, Fantastic Four just did it! (Though that was a horrible movie, but you get what I mean.)

        • BlackBriar says:

I see. Since it’s something you’re personally into, especially to a certain degree, of course you’ll be stricter than others on the subject.

In fact, Fantastic Four just did it! (Though that was a horrible movie, but you get what I mean.)

You mean the 2015 reboot, for which I agree. The Fantastic Four movie 10 years prior was better in comparison. Be a little more specific so as to not make any confusion.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Both were terrible. Except Fant4stic was worse than Fantastic Four. Please give the Marvel First Family back to Disney.

            • BlackBriar says:

How can you “give back” what they never had?

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Disney owns Marvel. Marvel gave rights away. Therefore Disney owns.

            • BlackBriar says:

I’m aware of that but the rights to X-Men, Spider-Man and Fantastic Four were already sold to other companies before Disney bought Marvel. Sony has Spider-Man and 20th Century Fox has X-Men and Fantastic Four.

          • IreneSharda says:

Oh, I was talking the 2015 one. It was the one with a separate dimension. The one from 2005 just had them get their powers the classic way, by absorbing cosmic rays during a space mission.

I actually like the older Fantastic Four, it was goofy, but that was part of it’s charm. Sure Jessica Alba was terrible and the Silver Surfer sequel was boring, but I still liked that first one a lot. I think I even have the novelization somewhere.

            • Highway says:

              You’d probably love the 1994 version… hahahahahaha

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

That is why it is called Fant4stic. Ironically, it was anything but fantastic. More like Terrible.

            • BlackBriar says:

Sure Jessica Alba was terrible and the Silver Surfer sequel was boring,

Yeah, we’re going to disagree on those two.

        • sonicsenryaku says:

i dont think they tried to represent the w axis as the opposite end of x. To me, it just looks like someone derped making a 3-d representation of what the “w” dimension would look like on a cartesian plane. If you look at the diagram at a certain angle, it almost looks like they intended w dimension to be, an “extension” of the 3rd dimension

      • skylion says:

…LOL. C’mon! The show commits to a huge and silly looking BONER! You expect people to NOT point and laugh? Especially in it’s early days!? LOL!

    • Sumairii says:

Drawing higher dimensions than those available in the drawing medium does not make sense in the first place. The typical depiction of the 3-D coordinate system on paper requires the viewer to believe that the direction parallel to the x=y line represents the z dimension. We might as well have chosen any other arbitrary direction. In that way, we could arguably depict as many dimensions on paper as we want by picking as many representative directions as we desire. Unfortunately, the show fails completely by deciding to pick a direction which has already been used to depict the x dimension…

  5. IreneSharda says:

Mira is so cute in that she wants people to think she’s human, even though she knows and refers to herself as not being one.

Maybe she’s just adverse to the term “robot”? Perhaps if we called her “android” instead, she wouldn’t get so hung up about it?

    • Foshizzel says:

Mira is definitely a cute character and I like that she tries to pretend to be a normal human.

Hmmmm interesting question I know she didn’t like the fact that Kyouma called her a robot so yeah maybe you’re right? She doesn’t like the word.

    • HannoX says:

Maybe Mira knows the word robot is based on the Czech word for slave.
