The battle between Leohart and Basara has started and to be honest their battle was kinda boring, I mean sure we finally got to see Basara’s fully armored form, but once again we already saw his form in the opening. Then again it was interesting to see Basara go full on berzerk mode with the help of Maria’s moms special candy while falling into lava which helped him transform to kick Leohart ass! I prefer that way of getting a power boost versus the typical formula of using a close friends or random family member getting hurt to trigger some over powered berzerker mode. I was a bit disappointed that Basara was calmed down with a hug from Mio and by a hug I mean using her boobs to calm him down! Other than the actual fight between the two guys they also teamed up or did we see that coming? whatever the case it was kind of interesting and I loved watching Leohart’s “sister” take out that council of demons without breaking a sweat? I just want to know is she a god or an angel? They did reveal that she might be on par with Basara’s dad or she might be a bit stronger than him? Besides those bits eventually the main cast returns to the human world to continue their day to day lives which means time for lots of sexual fun between Maria, Mio, Zest, Yuki and Kurumi.
Overall this second season was fun for me and they did push the story a bit more while showing off some new characters like Maria’s sister, Leohart and his crazy sister; however I wanted more of the silly sexual things with Maria pulling the strings! That said what I got this season was good enough and what are the odds of a third possible season? I guess it depends on Bluray sales and fan demand, but once again this series just can’t take out the likes of High school DxD even though I get the impression that these kinds of series can technically go on forever just by throwing a new demon that wants to take over the human or demon worlds and toss in some more random sexual events and then you are good to go!

With these two episodes we might as well call it Momoka’s introduction and boy is she quite the character! She managed to get close to Charlotte with the help of her body oh and it helped that she got the chance to show off her powers; however her main goal was to get Charlotte to challenge Akira as the new governor and expose the truth about Akira being really a girl, but at the same time Momoka’s true goal was to find Mirei which happened at the end of episode ten so mission accomplished? Besides all the sneaky stuff Momoka pulled to climb up the ranks we also had a flashback of Kasumi’s past with her partner for some reason? They probably should have done that a bit earlier in the season? Then again I suppose it fits with the events of Akira’s true gender being exposed to everyone and the fact that Akira gave Kasumi a purpose in life and promised to protect her partner Hibiki? Speaking of Hibiki I guess with Charlotte as the new governor it allows Momoka to have free reign over everything at the school and she is using Hibiki to get Kasumi to do things like fight Mamori? Thankfully Kasumi reunited with Hibiki and now those two might join up with Mirei and Mamori to fight Charlotte and Momoka.

This was one of those rare occasions where the show was able to elevate the source material. Now, they didn’t transcend the heavens, that’s for sure, as Shomin is still pretty weak as an adaptation. But there’s little need to aim for such lofty heights, just make it work for the medium.
And I say all of this just to praise a single facet: and that was how they had the VAs, especially Yuu Tenkuubashi, enunciate the word, “Gets!”. We’ve heard it in the OP for these past 10 weeks, so it’s not like the word is a complete stranger to any of them. But here, the softness they gave it…I dunno, I found it cute, but at the same time, I found it perplexing. It should have been a shout, but it wasn’t. That gave it a bit of life that I wasn’t expecting, a self-aware sense of joy pushing past embarrassment….
Other than that it was funny to see the girls work together to find out what’s up with their man. It came from a simple misunderstanding, and had plenty of fine moments to match what they were trying to understand. I especially like the yakiniku sauce bit, cause that is just so way out there when you think of “manly” smells. Plus…Aika looks cute in a mustache….

This was one of the episodes that didn’t set out to give us any “bust-a-gut” style humor, and that’s the point. They’ve tried that, and it’s not their strongest of suits. No, this one was where we got their signature style of mirth and mayhem. Now, this is one sloppy, nearly unreadable signature, but it’s theirs and they do own that as much as they can. The pacing tends to be off and most of the humor ends up leaving off rather than transitioning well. It actually got in the way of the small story being told here. That being that Kimito isn’t just a trolling troller that trolls, but he has, in fact, been an ass….
…which might come in handy next time…

I had a completely different opinion of this episode of Shomin Sample from skylion. To me it was just a complete failure. I can get the idea that Kimito is a dick to Aika. And that he ends up having his efforts at trolling her taken seriously, and… then they just dropped it. The quiet “gets” from all the girls was as non-payoff as you could get. It was like they said “Oh, we’re done with this, so we’re just gonna stop it here.”
And then they did the same thing with the B-part. A whole lot of windup and piling things on and stalling for time and then… nothing. Just don’t worry about it, there’s no joke.
Basically the whole episode was pointless unfunny. The rest of the episodes have at least had something you could see might be funny, or could be something seen as character development. But this one only had the barest hint of that, in that we learn how desperate the girls are for Kimito to not leave. The rest of it just hit a new low for how bad the writing and direction of this series can get.

Jeez, what a vile snake Momoka turned out to be. Even more shocking is surpassing Charlotte in that category. Barely a solid introduction and she’s already instigated a coup d’état and the most underhanded part of the process is she used her body to get there in no time flat. Absolutely shameless!!! It makes it hard to believe Mirei was ever partners with someone who has such a depraved personality.
Well, Mamori now knows Akira’s secret and is taking the reality check better than I imagined. Waiting to see how their next interaction will unfold. I know the reveal of Akira’s deception by concealing her gender to create order wasn’t taken kindly by the masses but stringing her up naked at the castle entrance took it a little too far if you ask me.

Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst – 09 & 10 [END]: Well, here we are at the ending and it’s done well enough by the standard the series has made thus far. Still, it’s hard to believe Winter 2016 will make a year since the first season began. How fast time flies.
Basara and Leohart’s fight was so-so because from the previous developments, you can feel they were never meant to be antagonists whereas the true enemy was the demon council. The opponent pair-up was only by circumstance. Basara’s armor gets points for badassery. What I liked out of this is story entertaining the possibility I hoped for and that’s Leohart becoming a potential ally because like I said before, the bad guy role doesn’t suit him.
I’d more watch out for Leohart’s older sister. If she can make Jin of all people quake in his boots from presence alone, that’s a person to best be wary of. She gave the demon council an undeservingly quick death in spite of the damage they caused.
Maria was vicious and seriously kicked ass there! I was in awe. And lol at her stuttering to call Kurumi her “friend” whereas she really intended to say “toy”. You can tell she wants nothing better than to establish an S&M relationship but Basara is the one aspiring to that status.
Pretty kinky fetish, there. But where did her horns go?
Overall, a decent follow up to the last season but strangely, I’m not satisfied. Hopefully there’s more Shinmai Maou no Testament in the future.
