First Impression – Diabolik Lovers More, Blood
Now with more nonsensical punctuation.
It’s the sequel that next to nobody knew that they wanted, but here it is. I still haven’t completed the first game, so I haven’t touched More, Blood. Though I do have a vague idea of the plot line here, so let’s run with that. |
Thanks exposition vampires! Nice eyepatch/glasses coordination.
Well it’s a new season and Yui still has to deal with multiple guys watching her sleep, blame her for everything, and use her as their personal blood bank. You would think that after the Cordelia thing, they would treat her at least a little differently, but I guess not. As the exposition in the beginning explained that there’s going to be some sort of vengeance, so there’s that to lead the plot along this season, I guess.
Plus with the apple imagery and how the new guys are calling Yui “Eve”, the show is obviously going for some Bible references. …Which is kind of ironic, since they already had that rapey church scene in the last season, so it’s not like the characters really care about religion. Or at least, nobody but Yui does. I guess this could be about her fall to sin. Of course, all of her possible “Adams” are sinning asshats, so it would be ridiculous for anyone to blame her for leading them in that direction (…though they already blame her for everything else anyways, so it would be nothing new).
Unfortunately, this does not mean that he had the heart of a vampiress dominatrix implanted into him at birth through unexplained means. Disappointing, I know.
Finally, there’s the new guys. Unsurprisingly, they’re just as creepy/stalkerish as the original harem and they also all have a weird obsession with Yui. …So really, they fit right in. Especially with the wonderful new nicknames that they’ve decided to call her by. There’s the fact that they seem to be at odds with the Sakamaki family, but even if Yui wanted to run away, it would be like running from one set of jerks to another, so I guess she’ll just be stuck in between the feud while both sides hit on her while insulting her.
Hopefully Yui has fun with… this.
Was this anime always so… funny? Not so much anything regarding Yui, but more about the scene where the Sakamaki brothers are all sitting in a limo telling each other to shut up in different ways (because they all needed to say it to each other to get the last word in like children) and then having the limo fly into the air out of nowhere and explode against a tree. Was that really necessary? Maybe for exposition’s sake and to show how much at odds the vampire groups are (and also to collectively show that all vampires here are asshats), but it was so over the top, it was kind of funny. The OST sounds pretty nice overall as it did last season, but I’m not sure if I’m a fan of the vocals in the OP. The art animation seems fine too. This season is more of the same, it seems.

They did have wolves in the beginning for some reason. …Maybe it’s getting closer than you think.

Very surprising to see Diabolik Lovers getting a sequel. Mainly because I thought last season’s finale was conclusive and I was under the impression Yui had become a vampire. Since you haven’t finished the game version, Kara, looks like you’re going in blind as much as anyone else watching.
As usual, the runtime is less than a regular episode which often leaves me wondering how can be shown in a short duration. Limited material for exposition is most likely the cause.
Judging from the beginning, this season might have a stronger plot. Apparently much hasn’t changed between Yui and the boys. Waking up to a near group feeding. Not the best way to start the day. Maybe there’ll be some slight change in attitude since she’s become the prize in upcoming tug of war that involves another vampire family. As if 6 wasn’t enough bad news, now there are 4 more making for a total of 10. Oh, that poor girl.
I found out Takahiro Sakurai is playing the eldest brother, Ruki Mukami. Add a returning Ferid Bathory (Seraph of the End/Owari no Seraph) and that’s two vile Sakurai vampires for the Fall season. Wow!

Well they managed to continue on the plot from the end of the first game into at least 3 more games (I don’t feel like counting them), so it’s not that surprising that the story is going on. …But yeah, I’m surprised with how the last anime fared that it got a sequel. Haha I’m not too blind. I know exactly what’s going on with the plot, I just don’t remember individual route events.
Surprisingly though, they seem to be pretty good this time with balancing exposition with what normally happens between Yui and vampires.
Haha maybe Sakurai has found his niche role. I feel like I haven’t heard Sakurai in a while though, so this is nice.

The source game has a more concrete plot compared to the first. And, the Mukamis are the polar opposite of the Sakamakis in terms of their vampire origins and personal history.

That’s good about the plot (since the source game didn’t seem to go anywhere until the end).
