Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai 10 – 11

Shimoneta - A token Otome picture

Otome finally got in on the action

winter15-highwI didn’t do a Shimoseka post last week because I wanted something to write about besides used panties. I got a little bit of that wish with the followup, and let’s see how the Gathered Fabric arc ends.

Bottoms

Shimoneta - Don't ever change, Hyoka

Hyoka was excellent in her obstinacy as usual

Episode 10 may have been the low point of this series for me. There was far too much focus on worn underwear, and far too much discussion with White Peak about it. And White Peak himself is just overall a pretty squicky character, talking about smelling other characters, etc. This just drove way too far into fetish country for at least my tastes, and didn’t do anything with it except make the characters and audience go “ewwwww”. The rest of the episode just turned on sketchy jokes like Goriki’s choice of underwear (not that that was particularly unexpected), Hyoka’s recalcitrance in complying with the hijackers, and Anna’s usual obsession with Tanukichi’s altogether. Similarly, I don’t think anyone was surprised at the cliffhanger at the end, when Kosuri interferes with the SOX capture of White Peak so that she can switch sides.

Shimoneta - I had to

You know it had to be here

Shimoneta - Bruce Lee eat your heart out

Bruce Lee has nothing on Anna

CounterOperations

Shimoneta - The Bad Guys

The bad guys do bad stuff

Episode 11 was a lot better than 10, mainly for getting away from the highly individual proclivities of White Peak and getting more into the overall operation to save the hostages AND thwart the Nishikinomiya directive to let the terrorists dig their own hole with building support for the H-Kinshi law. And it gave a nice chance for all the characters to show off some of their individual skills, like Otome’s best drawing so far (plus, I like perspective drawings like that) and Anna’s butt-kicking. And much like the conclusion of the first LN in episode 5, there was quite a bit of self-congratulation at the end when Ayame and Tanukichi are floating away, but there was definitely a lot more closeness between the two.

Shimoneta - and neither one wearing panties

Neither of them are wearing underwear…

Shimoneta - Is this an actual confession

Was this actually a confession?

This second LN was just nowhere near as good as the first half of the series. The addition of Kosuri was bleh, the flanderization of Anna may have started off funny but then just went waaaaay too far (like all flanderization does) and overall the struggle against Gathered Fabric was not fun at all, mostly because of White Peak just being a gross character. Something else that didn’t make sense was that Ayame and Tanukichi are all worried about Gathered Fabric ruining the name of SOX, but SOX is all of 4 people. Gathered Fabric obviously had more than 10 times that number. Just change the name or come out and say that you’re not affiliated with those bozos. But they got through it, and we’ve got another episode that feels like it’ll be a one-off.

Yeah, White Peak’s entire character was a garrulous, tepid affair. I guess that’s what makes it most satisfying to see Ayame and Ms. Flander kick his arse. And good to see Otome finally come in useful. I had that Wow moment I had when I first saw Indiana Jones take that leap of faith when they pulled that perspective drawing out. Nice.

But, yeah, between the quality of the two, and Ayame’s speech, this feels done, and yet not quite done. Ah well, I hope they send it off nicely next time…

Those are really starched pantsu for her to be holding them like cards. I dare not think what would happen if someone wears them…

LN readers say the anime elaborates a bit more on the Purity laws and how some parties are using them for their own political gains.
My sources are secondary, so please correct me if I’m wrong, Highway.

    More to come soon!

That’s more than I know about it, but sounds about right. It’s a stupid point of view, and something that has never ever worked in the history of humankind.

Yeah, they clearly showed that Anna’s father was all too happy to give Gathered Fabric enough rope to strangle society.
