Woooooooooo! Welcome back to MechaNorn and yeah as you can tell I am a bit behind on Symphogear GX and Aquarion Logos, but I am going to just do a written post this week and maybe next week I will get back to audio posts? Thanks for waiting!

Symphogear GX – 07 – 11
Maria wears glasses like a boss.
Wow things have really gotten INSANE for these past episodes of Symphogear, but that is nothing new for fans of the previous seasons because we love it! So when we last left off Hibiki, Tsubasa and Chris owned Carol and everything was safe or was it!? I know afterwards those creepy dolls were still running wild causing trouble without their master to give them orders. So why weren’t they deactivated after Carol died? You would think they would die off if she was their main supply of mana? I don’t remember if they explained it or not, but we did discover that the dolls were trying to get themselves killed while the girls used their ignite mode I guess they needed that mode to bring Carol back to life which they did after Micha and Garie were taken out by Kirika, Shirabe and Maria! So after each death their life force was used to bring Carol back to life? I guess you can just blame “magic” for bringing her back?

Speaking of returning characters for some damn reason Dr Ver just pops up and saves Carol from one of Chris’s giant rockets? I was totally surprised to see him his crazy face again! I really hated that character in the second season, but since he is voiced by great Tomokazu Sugita who I love in just about any role so I can’t fully hate that character too much. We also met Hibiki’s father who was just TERRIBLE! I mean sure by the time we hit episode eleven he turned around, but he is still a bad father figure because he left his family when she was just a kid or was it really that bad? Sure it sucks for Hibiki who grew up without her father being around I suppose you could argue that it was simply shoved into this season to cause drama for Hibiki who honestly has gone through a lot. Besides the forced drama bits we had some moments with Tsubasa, Maria, Kirika, Shirabe and Chris discovering their place in the world; however with the recent episode things were left off with Carol slowly ripping the world apart while fighting the full Symphogear team and in the mean time Elfnein might be dying?! Nooooooooo! I hope she doesn’t die! Just kidding with the power of magical science I’m sure she will be fine…

Aquarion Logos – 07 – 11
Tsutomu-“Hey I’m Tsutomu and welcome to Jackass.”
For those still watching giant robots and scrabble aka Aquarion Logos it continues to be strange and with this batch of episodes I am finally getting somewhat used to how things play out, but has it gotten any better? Honestly not really I can say for sure that it’s nowhere near as fun as EVOL; however for me personally it has plenty of WOW moments like all the various mecha combinations? So far the Aquarion in this season can turn into a bunny, dragonfly, and in the most recent episode it had a gryphon? I know it sounds crazy, but I really enjoy how LOGOS plays around with the idea of different forms for different missions even though most of them seen to be animal forms? I guess Logo’s creators are fans of Zoids or old school Voltron? Besides those bits I am happy that certain characters are getting development like Kokone who is slowly getting over her fear of talking to people and more shipping between her and Akira! I don’t mind that pairing even though I think in the end it will be Akira and Maia.
LOLi Maia is damn cute.
Tsutomu got some screen time and I guess his goal is to be a pro comedian? Yeah sure why not it fits his character since he is always cracking jokes! After he got a shot Maia was next and she was given about half an episode where she was trapped in some dream world. I think that was only thrown in there because Logos wants to toy with the reincarnation story lines and the use of “twelve thousand years ago” from the two past seasons of Aquarion which I have always found to be interesting and that came up in episode nine after Maia talked with somebody who had appeared to have long white feather like hair which made me instantly think of Mykage Towano and Toma who also had similar hairstyles, so Maia might be the reincarnation of that character or maybe she was simply able to communicate with her in that alternate world? Either way I hope they do something with that plot reveal! Overall Logos continues to do whatever the hell it wants and I am perfectly fine with that.

LOGOS doesn’t seem to be doing as well even amongst the Japanese fans. From what I’ve seen in the projected disc sales, it’s faring abysmally. Just as a comparison, Symphogear is going well because of Nana-pawaa!
As an aside, my preferred character apart from Kotomine Kirei/Araya Souren/Nrvnqsr Chaos is whatshername genki girl with those hair decorations.. you know, the boss-girl.

I haven’t seen LOGOS to make a comparison but I think Symphogear’s popularity also comes from girls kicking ass in general.

Seriously, it was fine without the useless and pointless male thing whose name I won’t even bother with. I believe that I was on the pro-mindraep/break faction and that all the cynical comments appeared when a certain character kept appearing.

Well even as a fan of Aquarion I don’t really like LOGOs either because it suffers from a few issues like the lack of staff from the past two seasons, the pacing is super slow and it doesn’t have OMG the world is in danger elements sure that old dude is messing with the kanji but nobody has died xD
Symphogear is doing things right by kicking stuff to the side as far as tone goes and they do whatever the hell they want and make it actually work! That and the over the top action bits andddd not to mention slight fanservice such as the transformations also help.

ScienceAlchemy!LOGOS: Yeah, this show just feels random. EVOL had a very strong thematic element going for it, while this one is just “pick a kanji, any kanji”. I did love the gryphon (another word for skylion!), and the beach episode was probably the most fun. And Karan and Akira are the most interesting characters to watch.

LOGOS: Things are slowly moving into story stuff I am curious to see what they do with the whole Maia and reincarnated evil side of hers but we shall see and Karan and Akira are fun.

Symphogear GX: It’s not Symphogear if there isn’t any insanity injected in and like I’ve said before, I’m liking the black clad versions of the girls’ armor than the original.
Of all people that could’ve shown up this season, I didn’t expect Ver to make a comeback. A definite wild card sighting. But the guy was a complete scumbag last season so seeing him again was unpleasant. Though there was some relief to it when Carol impaled him for questioning her motivation.
Honestly, I pity Hibiki for being related to such a deadbeat. Up until recently, her “father” had no redeeming qualities whatsoever that made me want to beat him over the head with a bat so it feels forced now that he’s trying to turn over a new leaf.
Carol’s insane plan leaves to wonder what she’d do after she dissected the world to see how it works. It doesn’t seem like she’s thought things through. What with her mind consumed by anger and rage over her father’s unjust death.

Carol’s plan is stupid I never understand any villain that just wants to destroy the world, its like wait doesn’t that mean you will die too!? Then again Carol seems like she just wants to rebuild the world after taking it apart? I guess that works better instead of blowing the world up.

I don’t know which is worse, a deadbeat or a douchebag. We have Hibiki’s dad but there are Worick and Nicolas’ fathers from Gangsta who were real bastards in the flashback episodes.
A number of villains don’t care if they die in the process because they have nothing left to lose. Those types are mostly people who want everyone to suffer as much as they did. Whatever they experienced that molded them that way. Borderline nihilistic.
