winter15-karaAh yes, more Noragami means hearing more Kamiyan! As for the storyline, things are the same as ever with Hiyori joining the god Yato and his partner/sword Yukine as they deal with spirits and such. Though since they never really resolved Yato and Bishamon’s feud in favour of the anime original ending, they’re now going to cover that part. The manga offered some really great development for Bishamon’s character and her relationships with her multiple shinki, so I’m looking forward to seeing this animated. The animation studio and director are the same, so really this is just a continuation of the first season… which is good since the first season was really enjoyable for both animation (yay BONES) and storyline.

winter15-kyoFew anime can live up to the brilliance of original material. And when I found out that the staff planned an anime original ending to first season, I wasn’t a happy camper at all. However, things turned out well and there was enough character building and fan following for another season. It seems they were testing the waters for a long adaptation but this story definitely has it all, intrigue, character development and an actual plot. I love this in manga form so anime is just a bonus for me; however, who doesn’t want more of Bishamon? It’s going to be a funky ride so be prepared as nothing as it seems! ⁽(◍˃̵͈̑ᴗ˂̵͈̑)⁽

winter15-foshMuch like my favorite manga about superheroes Boku no Hero Academia, which I highly recommend you read if you love superheroes and One Punch Man has a similar feel with the theme of superpowered humans being common and the world knows they exist. However, the differences might be the “villains” since One Punch Man uses humanoid themed monsters ranging from giant crabs, robots, science experiments gone wrong or demons! I think I remember there being some sort of demonic dude in the first set of manga chapters? Anyway this is coming to us from Madhouse which is a fantastic studio for One Punch Man! Especially coming off their success with Parasyte? Yeah I am super hype to see what they do with this series even though I think most hardcore fans will argue that Madhouse can’t possibly recreate any of the mind-blowing artwork from the manga which is true, but I have faith that they will do their best.

winter15-ocI’ve seen nothing but good things about One Punch Man. The manga is drawn by Yusuke Murata (Eyeshield 21) and is constantly praised for its drop-dead gorgeous art (just give it a quick google!). Therefore, a big make or break for this anime is the animation. Why watch a crappy looking anime when the manga already looks like it should be framed and hung in the Louvre? Thankfully, MADHOUSE are on the job so we’re pretty much guaranteed a visual treat. Okay, so I haven’t actually read the manga but I do hear that it’s a great mix of mind-blowing action and comedy. The premise of a guy who’s so strong his hair falls out is enough to give you a feel about the tone of the show. With a great seiyuu cast to pull everything together, this may be one of those “must-watches” of the season.

winter15-skylionI have to agree it has a big “must watch” pedigree. I gave the NicoNico web pre-air a try, and even though that diminishes a great deal of the MADHOUSE quality, most of the impact was felt. But then this studio isn’t to be sneezed at when it comes to action. How does the humor fair? Very natural. Not at all overly-jokey or idiotic; well-timed observations and visual humor that didn’t overstay the welcome. I’ll be on board…

winter15-skyYou know, that synopsis reads like the back of the box for Generic JRPG A: The Franchise Continues!  I mean, can’t you just imagine the scenes already? “I’m sorry, I don’t have time to talk right now! My house is on fire!” Can’t you just see the Quest Begins marker above the mysterious girl’s head? Will she not die at some point to begin the third act? Are you ready for the crystal power tutorial? It’s something of common wisdom in anime fandom, “Don’t trust a game adaption”. But this is no game adaption. This is anime original content!

Which means we have very little to go on in measuring content or interest. We could focus on the creators, but that is always a mixed bag, especially with one industry vet and one newcomer helming this show. Kikuchi has directed some big, well received, and by now nostalgic, works, but his partner, Nakayama has been mostly working in the technical side of things, and has Absolute Duo as his only directorial credit; which isn’t a credit as far as I am concerned. I do hope the industry vet has a much larger gravity for this comet, and that AbsoDuo’s major problem was adaptation woes. 8-bit is a decent studio, producing both well received and clunkers in about equal measure.

I’m anxious to see what they can do with an original property. Perhaps they have a new take on this set up. As far as visuals are concerned, Takahashi Yuuch looks -if Comet Lucifer’s promo art and preview are anything to go by- to be bringing the texture and feel, as Chief Animation Director, of both Tsuritama and the new Gatchaman franchise to the production with a few twists here and there. I consider that a plus, as the design is lively, playful, and surprising.

spring15-irenesI had very little interest in this series at first, but then I saw it was an original story, which always intrigues me since there is no chance for spoilers from original material that way. Also, I thought the fact in regards to crystals and a mysterious girl fascinating. But what really got me? This is a MECHA! You wouldn’t know it from first glance, but that clinched me. Fantasy and mecha in one? Sign me up! I wasn’t a fan of the last series that tried to do that *cough*CrossAnge*cough*, but I’m hoping this will be much better. The animation and music look top notch so I’ll be going in with high interest in this one.

spring15-irenesSuperpowers. Superpowers everywhere. Superhumans, Supervillains, aliens, robots, cyborgs, titans, gods, the list goes on. Imagine a world where all of them somehow existed at the same time…and somehow all fit and did their business in the small island nation of Japan…well, if any place was more suited for superheroes sans NYC, it would be Japan. Though I have to wonder, with that many superpowered beings in one place, how do things work? Are there any normal people left? Or is “super” the new “normal”? You know, the “if everyone is super, nobody is” saying? Well, I’m interested in seeing what kind of world that would lead to and what kind of job Bones is going to do with this. I’ve watched the studio long enough to have a bit of trust in them, even if this series looks a bit wacky.

With all the superheroes coming out of the woodwork, I guess it was just a matter of time before there needed to be a group to look after them too. Sort of a new take of the “who watches the watchmen” line, isn’t it?

spring15-sams

In recent years, there has been an almost renaissance of Japanese storytelling mixing with American style superhero stories.  You could say the most notable examples are Tiger and Bunny, the parody of general heroics that was Samurai Flamenco, or the Shonen Jump hits of One-Punch Man (which is also getting an anime;  coinky-dink?  I think not) and My Hero Academy. Fitting into this growing trend that I am all for, we have Concrete Revolution, a show with a group of colorful characters who have super powers.  And fight bad guys.  But aren’t the actual superheros, but actually monitor superheroes?  When everyone saves the day, has the day truly been saved?  Either way, this is a show that I have high hopes for.

winter15-skylion

I’ve grown up on American super-hero comics, and pretty much speak the language. But the Japanese take on this genre really is a different slice of the pancake stack. While it surely has the same amount of excessive worship of super-human abilities, there is a much wider gap. In American comics the emphasis on the power as identity trope is heavy handed, characterization and depth comes later, if at all. In Japan, it’s the power as tool trope, with characterization built in from the start; such as that is. Who they are, and how the powers are used is the narrative. Who you are as defined by the power set is the American standard. Which isn’t to say that the vice-versa isn’t true. But I generalize here. The synopsis reads as Watchmen with Japanese sensibilities.  So how this story cleaves both away and to that is where my interest will lie….

But then DC’s Kingdom Come is probably much closer, and people might want to check that out before this show airs; you should, as Alex Ross’ art alone is worth the price of admission, then you get the bonus of comicstorian Kurt Busiek’s story, which leads me to his Astro City, which has cover’s by Alex Ross….or you could find Alan Moore’s Top Ten, in which entire countries (on a ten level multiverse) have superhumans, and the local police force has to deal with a drunk not-Godzilla, robot hip-hop counterculture, and a Baldur-gets-murdered-mystery down at the local god’s only Pub…and I told you I spoke the language. Super-powers and BONES has my attention….don’t fail me again BONES….

winter15-oc

I did not think we’d ever get another season of Garo seeing as how season 1 ended so perfectly. What I didn’t realize is that there are (apparently) different storylines of this hot-blooded tokusatsu show just waiting to be adapted. This one follows the trend of superheroes in crazy animal suits (no, not furries) fighting evil, with a new cast and set in olden day Japan. At least, that’s what I can tell based off the costumes. There honestly isn’t much information out at the time I’m writing this but I can say with 100% certainty that MORE GARO = GOOD. My only worries are over how they can possibly outdo season 1. What on earth is in store for us?

I expect good things because the staff is the same as before and they just killed it. MAPPA in particular is one of those studios that I’m keeping my eye on lately because they’ve been doing such great work. They’re the group who turned a mobile card game into the impressive Rage of Bahamut anime. Garo is even more impressive, as it mixes stylistic animation with CGI that manages to not just blend in well…it actually looks good. That says a lot since the bare minimum for CGI in anime these days is to just not look like ass. So if you haven’t seen season 1 and you’re a fan of bombastic shounen anime with style…don’t deprive yourself of Garo any longer.

spring15-sams

When Garo was first coming out, it was in a very crowded season with shows like Bahamut, Parasyte, and Shirobako to compete with.  Sadly, I did not get around to watching it as it aired.  But on a lazy day or 3 I decided to marathon this show.  And let me say it was GREAT!!!  Garo takes all the fun things that I love as a kid who watched Power Rangers well into high school, meshes it with some really dark middle age style demons and monsters, and combines it with every man-child’s love of action figures.

Now while I was a little bummed that we wouldn’t be revisiting such great characters like Leon or Emma, I really like the story that the showrunners managed to tell and I am intrigued to see what they will bring to a Heian style action story.  Omyouji pop up in anime a little less than exorcists and demon hunters, but I believe in Garo!

The science-fiction war action story revolves around Objects — powerful, massive weapons that change the course of warfare — and Elite Object pilots. An odd Elite girl named Milinda meets Quenser, a student who aims to become a Object mechanic, with the soldier-in-training Heivia on a snowy battlefield. Well, it involves mecha, so I’m in, yet it seems just a little too cutesy and comedy for me. A female pilot and her male mechanic? Yeah…But then again, there some to be some interesting dark elements happening in the background, so we’ll see how it goes with this one.

winter15-skylionHey, it’s from the same writer of the A Certain Magical Index light novels! Looks like JC Staff has dumped the old in favor of the new. Being a long time Indexverse fan, I should hate this one with a very unreasonable fashion; blaming it for muh lack of super-powered or magically awesome LOLi. But, it looks too visually impressive to dismiss out of hand. Kazuma Kamachi has a knack for dreaming up very weird circumstances, yet he dresses them in very familiar circumstances; when that works it’s a great contrast, when it fails he’s a lulzy and formulaic LN writer. But that was while he was stomping around Academy City. Who knows what he’s cooking up here.

winter15-foshJC staff and the Index/Railgun creator go together like peanut butter and jelly! I love when they work together, but this is something non-Index which is a huge surprise or is it? I think Heavy Object was the first manga I checked out only because it had the mecha tag and I was curious and I think it was really short? So I guess there will probably be a lot of filler content? Then again I can’t remember there being any OMG-WTF moments so for the most part I am in the dark. I can’t wait to see this series and who knows maybe someday in the future JC Staff will produce that solo Accelerator manga into an anime series?

I’ve discovered that I’m in a rare camp. I actually really liked the original Hidan no Aria series; and no, not in that LOLI-Defender has to like all the LOLi shows, nor is it in that detached, ironic sort of way. I genuinely liked it. It came off as a very likable, tongue in cheek, feisty, action-comedy. Yes, it had it’s share of visual and narrative excesses, but both action and comedy works are supposed to do that. Besides, most of those grand set pieces mixed in character development and exposition with a great deal of style and panache. It’s not the most original show out there, but it did a great job putting its spin on things; spin being the LOLi version of military-school aged James Bond. Additional Spin: All of their clothes are bulletproof and weapons hang out in hammerspace until needed. More Spin: These character carry the super awesome DNA of famous people. Silly? You bet? Fun? I think so…even with the goofy ending.

But they do rather change up the formula. Gone is the reluctant but capable Casanova, Kinji Touyama, exchanged for a LOLi of equal stature -to Aria- in Akari. But, all-girls-fun-all-the-time has it’s own charms. On the technical end it looks like they are changing behind the scenes as well. It’s not just the shift from JC Staff to Dogakobo, it’s also a different director and set of writers from the original. Maybe some of the derpier aspects of the original have been filed away and forgotten. The character design and animation looks like it’s changed hands as well, but the promo art and preview doesn’t really betray a huge difference in the overall original look. However the aesthetics and tone changes are there. This looks just like a Dogakobo show in it’s specific moe look and the brief combat scenes shown display that it’s really not a JC show. As far as VAs are concerned, they could never get rid of Queen Rie as Aria. And they are pairing her with one of my favorites, Sakura Ayane as Akari. So, all in all, I’m quite eager for its first episode. The studio change could be a signal that the the material is going to be handled in a different way, but given that this is a spin-off property, that could be baked in from the start, with Akari taking the lead, that could make all the difference.

winter15-highwayWow, skylion, 2 paragraphs for Hidan no Aria? I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder. I remember this series as being almost torturous to get through (if it was any worse it could have been tortious), and the final reveal of the first series with Riko’s “I’m actually Lupin! Ahahahaha!” bit was pretty dang bad. That one was as formulaic as they come, but maybe this time it will be better with Kinji shuffled off to being a more minor character and less relying on his awesomeness to save the girls. And maybe Aria will actually have a chance to shine this time, instead of always needing to be saved.

winter15-foshI recently saw the K movie which opens the door for a whole lot more things to happen with this series so that has me excited and K was always one of those bizarre series because it has a very strange mixture with the Durarara color themed gangs, Gintama’s shinsengumi police force and add in some Railgun super powers to make things extra crazy! I just hope we get some new characters to follow instead of the police force and red gang, but I just want more Neko because she was always my favorite besides Anna who did a lot in the movie. On a side note since I mentioned Gintama it looks like Rie Kugimiya and Tomokazu Sugita aka Kagura and Gintoki are working together on K~

spring15-irenes

Well, when the first season to this aired, I was taking a break from anime in order to concentrate on my studies. So, I really didn’t even know about the series’ existence until now. The plot sounded interesting and I’m all for anything with superpowers and action as long as the story is good. The only problem was that I had to  watch the first season and the movie first, so I took the time to binge-watch the first season, and–

Now this is my most anticipated show of the fall! I can’t believe that I haven’t seen this series until now! The mythology of the world is beyond fascinating and their use of their powers is really cool. I did notice some of the annoying anime tropes of the time that have begun to thankfully change as of recent years. Neko annoyed the heck out of me at first, and even Kuro and Shiro were irritating at first glance. However, now I love them all. I’m interested in seeing both the Blue Clan and especially Red Clan again, and Red Queen Anna is one of the few lolis that I love. As per the movie, our new enemy is the Green King and his clan, and the Silver King is about to come out of hiding. I’m so excited! I love this series!

Look, there is only one reason to be excited about the second coming of Utawarerumono. The animation studio is White Fox. And everyone knows White Fox is the true savior of anime. Anyone who says otherwise has shit taste and should die in a fire. Oh, and Trigger is weak shit. Fuck those losers.

Just kidding. Flaming aside, Utawarerumono has previously seen an anime adaptation. And this new work appears to be thematically identical to the last iteration. Mysterious guy with amnesia wakes up in the middle of nowhere and is saved by some kemonomimi girls. Feudal war ensues, during which mysterious guy and his harem army of adorable kemonomimi girls rise to power. Then shit gets really weird as we start to learn about mysterious guy’s mysterious past. Seriously, that’s exactly how it went down the first time, and I predict that’s exactly how it will go down this time. But at least now we have studio White Fox to save us all. It’s time for some mecha action! And THE name in mecha (Sorry, Robotech!), often called the “Star Trek of Japan”, has returned for another offering for us mecha fans to devour! I’ve been a mecha fan since the early 2000s when I watched my first Gundam series, Gundam Seed. Several Gundam series and other mechas later, I’ve become a diehard fan and I’m ready for the next installment.

However, any good Gundam fan will also tell you to be cautious. The long lived series has had its hits and misses over the years, with a lot more misses as of late than it should have. For every MS Gundam: The Origin, you’ll also find a MS Gundam: AGE. And as of lately, there’s been Reconguista, which I can safely also add to the “misses” pile. Yet, even with how dull that offering was, I’m still pretty optimistic for this one. From what I’ve seen of the PVs, the action looks great, the story and characters look like the usual for Gundam, but that’s a good thing. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. A potential war between Mars and Earth is once again the setting (what is it with Mars lately?), with another princess-y character and a “normal” boy pilot being stuck in the middle, but as long as it keeps itself far away from any elements of “the series that shall not be named”, I think we should be good. Gundam Barbatos looks good, and the enemies look crafty enough. Our heroes are pretty much a sausage fest, but I’d rather have that than a forced female pilot. I’m looking forward to this, Gundam. Please don’t let me down!

spring15-sams

In the interest of full disclosure, I have two things to admit.  One, I’m not a big Gundam fan, I have seen about 3.5 Gundam shows.  Two, I convinced my Gundam loving friend to walk me through the show as it airs, so if I sound like I know what I am talking about, it is all his doing.

Anyway, in the space time that isn’t Universal Century unless it is but I don’t know what that really means; SPACE WAR!!!  Our plucky band of often un-shirted boys must get into Giant Robots to Destroy the Enemy! get wrapped up in Political Discourse! and make a stand in Moral Ambiguity!  I know that that was more of a general statement about Gundam as a franchise than this show particularly, but I believe that is all you might need to know before watching Gundam.  This will be the first time I have ever watched a Gundam show as it comes out, not counting watching Wing reruns airing on Toonami.  I look forwarding to seeing how Gundam holds up week to week, and I look forward to all the weird intricacies that this addition to the franchise brings.  Sure it doesn’t have the pure raw LOGIC of a Tomino show, but I am interested in whatever this show will try to do.

winter15-foshIt’s no lie that me and Jrow loved Gundam Build Fighters a lot, but we were not that crazy about Reconguista when I started up MechaNorn because of few reasons like it was all over the place, confusing as all hell! Seriously WTF even happened in that series? All I remember it was about space…anyway I still love my war themed Gundam so I am really curious about this new one even though I have been burned twice by AGE and Reconguista so while I am excited I am also prepared to be let down! On the voice actor side of things I kind of love that Hisako Kanemoto is in this, but she isn’t playing a pilot sooo I don’t know what to say about that other than I hope she get killed off to trigger the MC to activate some silly superpower.

winter15-foshRemember back when Seiken Tsukai no World Break and Shinmai Maou no Testament were around? Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry gives me the same feelings because of a few things like swords, magic and ecchi elements, but sometimes these copy paste series usually have fun characters like Shinmai Maou no Testament with Maria doing her weekly sexual adventure and Seiken Tsukai no World Break wacky cast of supporting characters so I hope this one has at least one fun fun character; however for the most part if you saw those other two series you kinda already know what you’re gonna get so yeah I wouldn’t hold your breath for anything special! Also this series has a the typical busty redhead as a main character which is never a bad thing because I do love me some redhead anime girls! I guess that might be the high school dxd influence huh?

winter15-highwYeah, this one has the YoshiMatsu main character (isn’t there anyone else who can do this?) and really feels like it’s gonna be another “loser makes good” kind of story. If we’re lucky, maybe it’ll be like this past season’s Wizard Buggisters… I mean, Kuusen Madoushi, which while not excelling at anything in particular, excelled in the fact that it didn’t actually screw anything up.

Also may glance at Yuruyuri, although I think I may not have finished season 2 (I can’t remember).

And that… Valkyrie Drive Mermaid…Awakening… Revengeance… Fabula Nova Crystallis… whatever the hell the title is, seems to be a fanservice yuri show, so I’m obligated to at least look at it.

Oh I forgot to mention, I’ll of course be waiting to see what bloggers here and elsewhere have to say about stuff once it starts airing, and I’ll undoubtedly add stuff to my watching list once I’ve had a chance to read some reviews.

What catches or sorta catches mine eyes.

    Comet Lucifer – maaaaaaaaybeee

Utawarerurwarawamamamono 2 – serious lack of Aruru.

Heavy Object Adeptus Mechanicus. Enough Said. Give me My Titans. For the God-Emperor of Mankind!

Romcom I’m throwing almost everything out of the window except for the following comments:

Gochuman – Oh god… I cannot unsee what I saw the other day. Gochuman AV Cosplay. Cannot unsee… x_x That said, I’m not particular to start something midway.

EcchiSlice – meh. Ecchi because well… And SoL I will let BB watch.

Seraph – MAYBE I will pick it up like A/Z. Start 2nd season and work backwards. And PRAY it doesn’t end up like A/Z.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz! Specials – Oh! Sweet NekoLOLis. Awaiting all 5 of the BDs to arrive here in my loving arms.

UBW’s other end should be interesting… if I didn’t already know the True End. Or is this the Good End. Sometimes get confused I do.

And to end it, *monogatari – got lost somewhere.

I will be frank here: Summer I picked up 0 things after the FIs and only kept the two shows I started with. Autumn I have 0 shows to start with. This isn’t a good sign to start off with… So, start proselyting.

I’m going to pretend you didn’t just utter such a profound blasphemy and used my initials in it. Seriously, there are some words for a sentence that should never mix… 😉

    • Foshizzel says:

      Comet Lucifer: Yep looks good!

Utawareuwara: I barely remember the first season back in the day…

Heavy Object: That is my #1 series I am most hype for because it’s the Index/Railgun creator so I expect great things and I read the manga.

Seraph: Yeah I don’t have much to say I still feel it tries way to hard to be “edgy” and “cool” like AoT and other anime of the past, but I will watch just to see how things play out! I’m expecting there to be a silly twist that the vampires aren’t the bad guys while the humans are the real enemy.

    • akagami says:

Utawarerurwarawamamamono 2 – serious lack of Aruru.

Ahhhhh, Aruru~~~ I had totally purged her existence from my memory, and now you’d reinstated her in the bowels in my mind… oh the horror.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Aruru = the Puchiko of Utawarerumono/Izuna-tan of Utawarerumono.

Hence, An Aruru Is Fine Too. Also, you cannot argue with the LOLi with the Tiger. Though some would rather have the LOLi with a LIOn but they are both big kitties so the difference is minor.

I’ve learned that I don’t really fall in love with shows till I have actually seen about 2-4 episodes. Nothing about the preview material prepared me for a show like Ranpo Kitan after all. In the end the shows I often dismiss the most turn out to be pretty good (Classroom Crisis for one) and the shows I get my hopes up for turn to rancid pieces of slop (Chaos Dragon).

    • Foshizzel says:

      Ewwww Ranpo Ewwwwww.

Yeah ever since the days of Guilty Crown I try my best to not buy into the visuals from trailers cause yeaaah! It builds up my hype and when it crashes in burns it makes me quite sad.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Oh, quel belle surprise!! This came sooner than expected. So much that I had to make my list on the spot. While this Summer season was alright, I’m happy it’s practically at an end since I’m anxious for the Fall season and it looks very decent with a considerable number being within strike zone. Seriously, though. We’re at the eve of Fall again. I can still remember how Winter 2015 just started and doesn’t feel so far behind.

    High:
Owari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen/Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya
Strike the Blood: Valkyria no Oukoku-hen
    Heavy Object
    K: Return of Kings
    Noragami Aragoto
Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider

    Moderate:
    Diabolik Lovers More,Blood
    Garo: Guren no Tsuki
    Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka??
    Owarimonogatari
Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru
    Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst
World Trigger: Isekai Kara no Toubousha

    Low:
    Comet Lucifer
    Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou
    Gakusen Toshi Asterisk
    Hidan no Aria AA
    One Punch Man

    Maybe:
    Dance with Devils
    Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid
    Young Black Jack

Owari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen/Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya: Yes, the waiting game is almost done and the second half couldn’t come quick enough. My Seraph Saturdays are coming back!!! Surprising at first, I came to like the subtitle “Nagoya Kessen-hen/Battle in Nagoya” to better emphasize what arc the story is going in. And personally, it’s a lot more fun and engaging. Plus I love watching how the 5 main characters interact with one another. fripSide’s OP in the PV “Two souls -toward the truth-” sounds alright, though it will take a few more listenings to get a true feel for it. At the moment, the first season’s OP “X.U.” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Gemie is better and the ED “scaPEGoat” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Yosh rules over all of them. I’ll be waiting to hear how the new ED “Orarion (オラリオン)” by Nagi Yanagi will compare.

Strike the Blood: Valkyria no Oukoku-hen: More Strike the Blood is always a pleasure. Need I say more? It wouldn’t be so shocking if a subsequent second season announcement showed up after the 2 part OVA is over. Given that the LN has more than enough volumes to spare.

Heavy Object: The PV is decent, the synopsis intriguing and the fact it’s by the same author behind Index/Railgun give enough incentive to check it out. Hopefully it will not disappoint.

K: Return of Kings: Enjoyed the first season as it aired Fall 2012 (Damn, it’s been three years already) and loved the movie K: Missing Kings that I watched recently so I’m excited for the second season. Fun characters, great coloring and animation continuing the story centering on various superpowered clans… Count me in!!

Just to make it clear to those who haven’t seen any of the productions but is inclined to do so, you have to watch the first season then the movie to understand the story to know where the second season will start from.

Noragami Aragoto: Didn’t think it would get a continuation but I’m grateful it did since the first season of Noragami was mostly good. The only hitch was attitude from Yuki Kaji’s character making things difficult. And the arc will be focusing on that hot goddess Bishamon. No way will I say “no” to that.

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider: Looks like a series that’s definitely within my strike zone and gives off that Zankyou no Terror feel which is a series that did well in my opinion. I’m always up for a Psychological/Thriller themed show.

One Punch Man: I don’t know what to feel about this show at the moment. Upon seeing one of the earliest PVs on ANN, it looked ridiculously over the top and not in a pleasant way if you ask me. However, I’ll give enough leeway for a second opinion.

Hidan no Aria AA: I had a chance to watch the first season while it was airing but turned down the opportunity for a reason I can no longer remember. I’m not inclined to play the catch-up game for this one so I’ll go on a little faith, dive in and see what happens with this series. Given there aren’t any expectations, it should be a decent run.

    • skylion says:

One Punch Man: You should aught be able to find the full episode on NicoNico (or the JollyRogerNetwork). It’s worth checking out. I went in thinking it was a One Punch Joke….

Hidan no Aria AA: This one looks to have stronger moe vibes than that last one. From the PV it looks like a mix of cute girls doing cute thing and cute girls blowing the $#!+ outta things. How they balance that…..?

    • JPNIgor says:

Hah, this season is chockfull of vampire antics all around. You’re defintely going to have fun.

Maybe it’s to tie with halloween? .-.

Well, most of them are wayyyy out of my strike zone (it’s like there are two diabolik lovers in a single season, jesus).

      • BlackBriar says:

Hah, this season is chockfull of vampire antics all around. You’re defintely going to have fun.

Definitely!! I look forward to it and I’m grateful because I need something to completely erase the bitter Summer disappointment Jitsu wa Watashi wa from my memory. Overlord’s Shalltear Bloodfallen almost singlehandedly alleviated the void and lack of vampirism but alas, she didn’t have enough screen but did well with the little she had.

Maybe it’s to tie with halloween? .-.

Hahaha!! Fosh said something along those lines before. I think it works well like that. Halloween is meant to showcase the dark, creepy stuff.

Well, most of them are wayyyy out of my strike zone (it’s like there are two diabolik lovers in a single season, jesus).

You mean Dance with Devils? That’s on the “Maybe” section of the list because I might check it out only on a whim, which is less than likely. Besides, from what I hear, it’s exact opposite of the characteristics in Diabolik Lovers. I’m neutral on Dia Lovers, though. I watch it purely out of curiosity to see what happens next. I hear Takahiro Sakurai is playing one of the 4 new vampires, the Mukami brothers. Add a returning Ferid Báthory (Owari no Seraph/Seraph of the End) and that’s two vile Sakurai vampires for the new season. Wow!

        • Highway says:

Youko Shiragami is an excellent vampire. Cute, loving, friendly. A nice change for a trope that is usually full of chuunibyou dramatics and cheeseball lines.

          • BlackBriar says:

If that stuff works within your comfort zone, that’s fine but that doesn’t do anything for me. I’m nearly what you call a purist in that category. I rather a vampire that doesn’t have a ditzy personality and stays true to her species. Along with other unpleasant notes, I didn’t sense any of that in Jitsu wa Watashi wa. The appeal quickly waned after getting a full grasp so it didn’t take much to drop it and move on.

            • JPNIgor says:

I thought that would be BB’s argument hahaha But I have to agree with Highway, Youko isn’t a perfect vampire, actually, she’s half-vampire. Besides, she’s in a romcom scenario, which is not ideal for vampires with bloodlust and “ARRRRGH THE SUUUUN, I’M BURRRRNINGGGGGG…”. I guess she’s fine the way she is.

I have to admit that I dropped Overlord at some point. I guess the world domination antics of someone who isn’t really keen on doing it ended up frustrating me. But Shalltear was amusing, at least up until where I watched.

            • JPNIgor says:

Fuuuu… I forgot the things’s name, but whatever name it has, it’s eating my posts. C’mon, barf it back already.

            • BlackBriar says:

Even half-vampire still adhere to their instincts to feed. To compare, Rosario + Vampire had RomCom elements among other genres and Moka Akashiya was true to her vampiric nature and was far less of a ditz and airhead than Youko Shiragami. And I mean the Moka who wears the rosary to keep her true self sealed.

            • skylion says:

Vampires are fictional constructs and are subject to all kinds of interpretation and re-interpretation. On one hand you have a group that sparkle like diamonds and are quasi-metaphors for their author’s religious ideas about sexual-abstinence along with a handy anti-abortions message. On the other you have dark and Gothic with a quasi-metaphor for syphilis, “foreign” invaders, and other such Victorian era Shock and Awe.

It’s not about this or that, but always about The Other. After that, vampires become about personal preference and bias. So, Youko is a perfect vampire, feeling alone and lost because she has a different background than the rest, with a different outlook about vampiric weaknesses.

            • BlackBriar says:

Uh-huh, very nice. That’s all well and fine if it works for you.

Need not be mutually exclusive. In fact, it exists and makes it completely more interesting. Cute, loving, friendly, vampiric aloof, cruel, sadistic and insanity can come the same package.

*REAPPEARS FROM THE VOID AND SLAMS FISTS ON DESK* ONE-PUNCH MAN!!!!!!

Though I’m usually the person to complain about anime adaptations of manga series I’ve read, I actually have some hopes for OPM anime. The PVs alone have gotten me super HYPED (then again so was I for Tokyo Ghoul anime…). BUT SERIOUSLY OPM MANGA IS A MUST READ, as I’ve told literally anyone who’s willing to listen to me LOL.

Need to go back and check out more series, but of course I’m hyped for S2 of Haikyuu!! and Noragami. And I don’t mind another season of Owari just so I can hopefully see Yuu suffer (◉‿◉✿)

    • skylion says:

OPM looks great, I agree. But seriously, Yuu’s potential suffering is nothing compared to the audience. BA DUMP BA PSSSSSS~

    • Kyokai says:

Hahaaa! Hoshi, do you know I just marathoned the manga last week? IT WAS SOO GOOOOOD! Can’t wait for the next chapter. It is so addictive.

@sky, I had my doubts of a one punch wonder but the premise is quite interesting. I don’t want to spoil but if the anime staff adapts it well, this would be amazing.

      • Hoshi says:

        ~YESSSSSSSSSS, KYO!!

Yeah, OPM starts off a bit gimmicky (??) in that the whole joke is around his one punch trick, but over time it just gets addicting (and even more hilarious).

        • Kyokai says:

I was almost dubious, what am I getting myself into as this seems so ordinary. But then the background happens with all the characters and Heroes system. I am definitely enjoying myself.

Anime News: The Seven Deadly Sins Manga Gets New TV Anime in 2016

  9. JPNIgor says:

It’s that time of the year again! Yay! Or, booh, because stuff I really loved is ending… anyway, let’s go!

    Hyper-hyped stuff:

Noragami Aragoto: So, it’s Noragami coming back. The first season was just brilliant, the animation was great and there’s no way I’m not watching this again.

K: Return of the Kings: I liked the first season, mostly because of the extremely fluid and stylish action. The skating scene at the very first episode really bought me. The story was kind of lacking in the first season, but the movie more than made up for it and it’s surely one of the most anticipated for me. But I’m really surprised that there are other people waiting for this. I remember all the criticism it received at the end of the first season.

Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka??: The fluffy anime of the season. The surreal and stylish european-like scenery is great and the characters and the dialogue are all so refreshing, it’ll be great for all the sh*t I expect to go down in Owarimonogatari, Owari no Seraph and Heavy Object…

Ore ga Ojousama Gakkou ni “Shomin Sample” Toshite Gets Sareta Ken: So, I was seeing MAL’s latest news and I saw this, and for some random reason, I looked for it’s manga (I don’t really read much manga), and I was so hooked I rushed through all the chapters up until the point the scanlator came to a hiatus (their infamous norway jokes… hahaha). Anyway, it’s great. The main character is awesome, though the other characters aren’t really relatable, but that works great here. Looking at these silly girls exploring our society’s maids and cellphones and making a theme park which the theme is “our” world. It’s just great. Really recommend for anyone.

Haikyuu!! S2: I LOVE VOLLEYBALL. Is that enough reason? No? It’s awesome!!! Did I mention that I love volleyball?

Owarimonogatari: After watching all seasons of the Monogatari series, I can’t really allow myself not to watch this. Though I don’t expect much from this arc compared to the latest ones.

    JUST WATCHING…

Owari no Seraph 2: Well, I watched the first season and wasn’t really hooked. I can easily say that Wit Studio is a great animation studio, watching their work is really pleasant, but the story isn’t what’s keeping me here.

Subete ga F ni Naru: Er… So, I’m not sure what this is all about. But I did read Umibe no Onnanoko, which was a great read, actually. And the character design is made by the same guy who drew and created it, so I expect a lot, at least for the art part.

World Trigger: Toubousha-hen: World Trigger actually caught me by surprise and I was addicted to it before I could notice. I expect Toei to at least raise the budget a bit more, because it’s actually looking great as the first year-long season is coming to an end.

    GIVING A CHANCE

One-Punch Man: Not really my piece of cake, but it’s receiving quite a lot of hype, and knowing that it was done through a kickstarter project, it’s probably good. I guess. And I do love a good parody, so if it’s funny enough, it’s gonna be great.

Heavy Object: Knowing that it’s done by the same staff that made railgun actually got my hypes up, so I’m taking it up.

Gakuen Toushi Asterisk: Irene actually managed to convice me to try it out. A nice budget means good eye candy, and I’m all in for it.

Lance N’ Masques: So, Studio Gokumi. Knowing that they made Yuki Yuuna, I’m somehow inclined to expect some weird plot twist at some point. And I don’t really dislike the direction in Shigatsu, so I’m gonna try it out.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru: Jesus, this looks weird. It does give me some Dansai Bunri vibes, so I feel like I should try it out. Just to be on the safe side.

That’s it. This season seems kinda weak, it’s never been so easy to choose my top 7 on the round up. At least what is good ir really good, so I’m still happy.

    • BlackBriar says:

Most likely the “Absence makes the heart grow fond” scenario. Since it ended, I’d say looked it over and gave a second opinion. If you don’t count movie, Fall 2015 will make exactly three years from the last season.

World Trigger: Toubousha-hen: World Trigger actually caught me by surprise and I was addicted to it before I could notice. I expect Toei to at least raise the budget a bit more, because it’s actually looking great as the first year-long season is coming to an end.

Slow at first but World Trigger definitely turned out to be a fun series to watch. Unless something happens to take up time, I’ve never missed an episode. I honestly don’t see all the fuss over the animation quality. It’s good as it is. The curiosity is how this arc will go given it will completely anime original. Intriguing nonetheless and it’s easy enough to assume this is a stall tactic to give the author more breathing room to continue the cannon story. Possibly another 50 episodes coming our way.

One-Punch Man: Not really my piece of cake, but it’s receiving quite a lot of hype, and knowing that it was done through a kickstarter project, it’s probably good. I guess. And I do love a good parody, so if it’s funny enough, it’s gonna be great.

The feeling is mutual. There’s a lot of hype surrounding this show but I’m just not buying into it and the PV I saw wasn’t helping its sake in my opinion. Because a great deal looked near unbearably childish, I’m keeping my expectations low.

Heavy Object: Knowing that it’s done by the same staff that made railgun actually got my hypes up, so I’m taking it up.

Not just the same staff. The story is from the same author behind Index/Railgun. So that’s extra incentive to look forward to it.

      • JPNIgor says:

Unless something happens to take up time, I’ve never missed an episode. I honestly don’t see all the fuss over the animation quality.

See, I started watching anime fairly late, at least compared to most of you guys, so I do like good and fluid animation and not-derpy expressions. Sometimes I can’t help but cringe at mispositioned eyes and stuff. I don’t think it’s going up to 50 episodes, but it’s definitely to allow the source material to get bigger. Though it’s weird because I saw somewhere that the author is still behind this spin-off as well.

Not just the same staff. The story is from the same author behind Index/Railgun. So that’s extra incentive to look forward to it.

Well, I’ve never watched any index/railgun stuff. I do know that there are a lot of fans, and I do enjoy J.C. Staff’s latest works, so that’s from where I’m taking my hopes.

        • BlackBriar says:

Well, I’ve never watched any index/railgun stuff. I do know that there are a lot of fans, and I do enjoy J.C. Staff’s latest works, so that’s from where I’m taking my hopes.

Speaking of Index/Railgun fans, I wonder how the others feel about the author green lighting his other work for an adaptation and not producing the long asked for third season of Index. Word is there are a lot more volumes to spare. I’m an anime-only viewer so I’m not roaring as loud as the others.

          • skylion says:

…word is that both his publisher and JC Staff felt they mined all they could out of the Raildex universe in terms of anime production. Or that they had a falling out in how JC adapts his material. Given that they actually improve his really lulzy work, I can see that last bit being pretty close to true…

            • Foshizzel says:

There is a special that has characters from Index, Heavy and Railgun together or it was a animation special just to show off? I would not be shocked if Heavy is set in the future or even in the same timeline as Railgun/Index because they have mechs in them! Well Railgun does anyway.

            • skylion says:

I’m trying to remember the scope of the technological world from the LNs. Heavy takes place in Alaska? And there is a Science City in Hawaii in the RailDex verse? I mean, despite that, those Objects looks like an Academy City mad engineer’s wet dream. In one of the wars from the LN Academy City had high altitude jets that got most of their energy from crazy friction! Regardless, get HYPE!

      • skylion says:

One-Punch Man I know it’s very early days. But the leaked episode was enough to make me look at a few of the manga chapters. They revel in simplicity. The character’s power is One-Joke, but everything leading up to and around that is everything but. I will hesitate to call it smart, as sometimes that can be a writer just dog-piling clever bits into the story. The one-dimensional approach is used as a backbone for a great many other points. How well they execute this beyond HYPE is…well, it’s the show, ain’t it?

    • skylion says:

Shomin Sample: This one is going to be a hoot. If they can keep up the manic pace and the back and forth of the jokes, it will be a scream.

Owarimonogatari: I’ve been doing a bit of digging, and the backbone of this tale is scary-weird. I’ve often said that the means create the end. But what sort of end when the means are called into question?

Owari no Serpah 2: The other Owari with Vampire(s). Yeah, this is pretty much Wit makes things look pretty.

Lance & Masques: We give studios the benefit of the doubt all the time when it comes to their past work informing current work. Gokumi shouldn’t be any different. But this one just looks to cute to live! OMG that horse looks soooo weird!

      • JPNIgor says:

Shomin Sample: This one is going to be a hoot. If they can keep up the manic pace and the back and forth of the jokes, it will be a scream.

Exactly. That’s exactly what I love about the manga. If it’s not fast-paced as the manga makes it seem, it’s definitely not going to be good.

Owarimonogatari: I’ve been doing a bit of digging, and the backbone of this tale is scary-weird. I’ve often said that the means create the end. But what sort of end when the means are called into question?

Is that the backbone of the arc? Then I guess it’s going to be good. I seriously can’t think of an end without thinking the means very thoroughly. I mean, I wouldn’t be able to take the last ultra-awesome-tuna bento in the supermarket if the means is to literally step on everyone’s head to get there first.

Owari no Serpah 2: The other Owari with Vampire(s). Yeah, this is pretty much Wit makes things look pretty.

I love the lime green weapons =B

Lance & Masques: We give studios the benefit of the doubt all the time when it comes to their past work informing current work. Gokumi shouldn’t be any different. But this one just looks to cute to live! OMG that horse looks soooo weird!

What? Yuuki Yuuna characters aren’t cute? (at least they don’t have a kyuubei-esque shady mascot) And I swear to god, I always get kind of weirded out whenever Kiniro would take their yuri antics a little too far, like “NO! That’s not what I came here for!”. Yet, I still love them.

        • skylion says:

The backbone of Owarimonogatari is “question what you know”. I guess they are going for “Mind Blown” memes?

Yay for Lime Green Weapons. From what I saw in promotional materials, we get four more of them! Nothing says, “We have diluted supporting castmembers” more than adding more potentials to dilute!

Imma gonna go all hype and call Shomin the AOTS right now. No AOTY. No….Anime of All Time. Beck is alright, but we all know that Beyonce is….

          • JPNIgor says:

Definitely AOTS, really close there with Noragami, though. It will probably be top 5 of the year.

      • Highway says:

I may not even watch Owarimonogatari. Ougi is the worst of the worst characters in that entire universe, her pointless ramblings positively somnambulent. Why did Nadeko lose hours of time when she was talking to Ougi? She probably fell asleep because the whole thing was so boring. Unless I hear that it’s “Hitagi and Tsubasa team up to save the world and get 80% of the screen time” I probably won’t bother.

        • JPNIgor says:

There is a new character. At least that’s what I saw in the trailer. I would give at least a try in the first episode.

          • Highway says:

I gave it a try with all the other series. It’s not like this is some new property or something that hasn’t been adapted before. The whole series has been very consistent: Hitagi and Tsubasa are interesting, everyone else is not, and Ougi is by far the absolute worst of the bunch. And NisiOisiN is extremely consistent: It’s going to be a blatherfest, punctuated with more annoying Shinbouist visuals. That’s the majority of what it seems people say they like about the series: “Oh, the visuals keep it interesting while they go on and on and on…” Well, in that case, you’re not understanding what they’re saying, so why bother?

I dunno… I do love the visuals, they are crazy entertaining, but I spend most of the time trying to keep up with the subtitles (as my japanese is awful), so I can easily say that I enjoy the dialogues as much as I enjoy the visuals, too.

I’m not even sure what Ougi is all about, so I can’t say if he’s really the worst. But surely would rather Shinobu or the sisters, or anyone else than him/her/whatever the hell this creature is.

        • skylion says:

For a lot of viewers, Monogatari can be the thing they look at more than the thing they watch.

I still find the whole process of wordy mcwordsmith filtered throught sighty mcsightsmith to be of interest.

But I’ve pierced enough of the reddit strata on Owarimonogatri (without spoilers) to kinda sorta see how the track is going to run. Ougi does get more screen time, and the consensus is that she/he is a “great” character.

You might not want to bother if Hitagi and Tsubasa, etc. But Sodachi is a different take on Araragi as a character, so that might be enough…

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

*monogatari is an acquired taste. Very much. To really appreciate it one must enjoy *all* the characters. Which therein lies why I cherrypick episodes – I cannot appreciate all of them equally.

            • skylion says:

Well, I do like all the characters equally. (OK. I Know, and you know, that I’m lying and that I like one specific character more…but I’m stretching the truth a little!) I guess that’s why I find the show appealing after all this time. Ougi is a difficult character, I admit, but I’m up for it!

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

I’m lying and that I like one specific character more

              Yes. Hachikuji Mayoi. 😛 *runs*

            • skylion says:

You better run you little $#!+! OK….so there are three characters I like more. Mayoi, Yotsugi, and Shinobu. And Tsukihi. But other than that, all of them are equal. And Nadeko…

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

My “Oh! Sweet NekoLOLiS!” have arrived. Together with a very, very, very nice 3 layered clear poster.

And then, she became a snake-haired yandere. Oh, well…

              …and then I liked her much better…

Recapping last season, 25 shows, 5 dropped, with 2 shows that I added after the season started (I didn’t think I would like either Himouto! Umaru-chan or Bikini Warriors… but what do you know…). Classroom Crisis ended up being my surprise show, because I didn’t foresee the direction it would take. Really enjoyed the second half!

I was thinking there wouldn’t be any preview this time around again, because of… stuff? Well, I’m not complaining! Although summer where I am was way too short (no good weather until July, pffft).

This season looks like it has a lot of skips, so this might be the season I whittle down my backlog (although I say that all the time). Which reminds me, I still need to work on my Hollywood backlog as well (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, and Inside Out).

    Back to Back
    ————————————————————————

Heavy Object: I’m kind of reminded of my pre-season impression of Cross Ange, which started out watery and ended up tasting like a good milkshake. I’m getting hyped!
K RETURN OF KINGS: YES OH YES So looking forward to this. My first impression was so-much-style-no-substance, but got slowly hooked in. Which reminds me, I still need to watch the movie first.
Gakusen Toshi Asterisk: School? Check. Magic/supernatural powers? Check. Character-driven story? Check. Checkcheckcheck signmeup.
Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry: Enjoying the manga (WHERE IS CHAPTER 19?!?! ffffffffff) and happy to see it adapted. Swords are awesome.
Owarimonogatari: You love it or you hate it. There is no middle ground. I’m firmly in the former.
Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen: This is a surprise. Although I enjoyed the first season, I think it ended well, so I’m surprised there is a sequel. I haven’t played the game so I don’t know how much more material there is. Will Haku’s harem grow more? Will he remember his past? Hm hm hm.
Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans: I’m surprised to say it, but I’m actually excited for a new Gundam series. After the original Seed, I haven’t been impressed with any of the ones that followed. But it has Nagai Tatsuyuki and Okada Mari as director and series composer, and they’ve been responsible for A LOT of my favorite shows (Anohana, Toradora, AnoNatsu, Honey and Clover II, Railgun, Hanasaku Iroha, Nagi no Asukara, Zetsuen no Tempest). Combined with Gumdan. So hyped. SO damn hyped.
Comet Lucifer: New series, promo art looks good, and it appears to be sci-fi/fantasy with mecha. Premise looks pretty good, count me in!
Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou: Lots of random people in this setting, kind of reminds me of Kekkai Sensen with a different kind of stylish take. Plus it has BONES! Oh yes.
Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai: Although not the same, the promo art reminds me of Strike Witches, which very much enjoyed. So already biased in the camp of this-looks-awesome.
Gochuumon wa Usagi Desuka??: My only fill of moe slice-of-life for this season. I inhale this stuff like a fat kid needs candy.

There’s a red lunar eclipse??? Clouds blocked it, gah
    ————————————————————————

Noragami ARAGOTO: I struggled to finish the first season as I lost interest half-way through, hopefully this will re-kindle my initial interest. Would have been nice if the characters had upgraded their clothing instead of wearing the same hobo gear every day.
Ore ga Ojou-sama Gakkou ni “Shomin Sample” Toshite Gets♥Sareta Ken: Comedy romance in school settings are usually a slam dunk for me, but the set-up has me worrying a little (MC has to act gay to survive, sheltered rich girls?)… hopefully I’m proven
wrong, because romance series is very light this season.
Shinmai Maou no Testament BURST: The first season ended pretty badly, so I’m not hoping for much. Serviceable action with some fanservice and let’s call it a day.

    The maybe-it-will-taste-good plate
    ————————————————————————

Lance N’ Masques: Horrible name aside (and funny deformed faces), it has lances! Lances the size of God Arcs, but lances nevertheless. I’m just hoping the kid doesn’t turn out to be a brat.
Hidan no Aria AA: The first season lacked impact, so we’ll see how this goes. It’s been long enough since the first season, so I’m willing to give it another shot. My strong distaste for Kugimiya Rie loli tsundere characters has weakened to mere dislike.

16 shows this season. I can live with that.

    • skylion says:

Lance N’ Masques: This will either earn it’s Lancer is Suffering memes, or, you know, it won’t…But yeah, the Studio Gokumi bug is biting me.

Aria AA: If I’m not mistaken the KugiRie character, Aria, will take a back seat to the rest of the cast.

Shomin Sample: They bring the “gay, into muscle men” up at odd times, almost to only remind you that, “yeah, this is a thing”, and only with one other character. I hope they downplay it more in the anime; as it’s not only kinda offensive, but there is only so much they can do with that humor, and they do little with it anyway.

Magical 35: I’m seeing Mayo Chiki! with guns n’ magic. But SW is not to far off it guess in terms of how those two elements mix.

Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans: If there is anything that can get me to try out Gundam is’t Okada Mari. I’m not letting that being the strongest of selling point, however. I was kinda hype for M3, but I really didn’t get into that shows groove.
      But here’s hoping!

Owarimonogatari: Oh, I’m in the former camp as well (I think we can count Highway on the fence?). So I’ll be seeing you there!

      Heavy Object:

I’m kind of reminded of my pre-season impression of Cross Ange, which started out watery and ended up tasting like a good milkshake. I’m getting hyped!

LOL. That’s a pretty good one line review. The show has a big bold crazy Alaska going on for it. I think the characters are going to have to win the story over for it to be watchable beyond Big-Guns-Go-Boom…

      • akagami says:

Owarimonogatari: Oh, I’m in the former camp as well (I think we can count Highway on the fence?)

So like Highway fell off the Shinobu wagon but got his foot stuck in the reins and is being dragged along while bouncing off the muddy path?

        • skylion says:

          …dude…no..

        • Highway says:

Referencing your earlier comment, there’s plenty of middle ground. I like *monogatari a lot when Tsubasa and Hitagi are prominent characters. I find it pretty uninteresting when Karen, Tsukihi, Kanbaru, and Shinobu are the prominent characters. And it’s deathly dull when it’s Ougi and the “Oddity fighters”.

          • akagami says:

That’s fair… characterization drives most of my enjoyment, especially so with a show like *monogatari. I don’t know if I’d call it middle ground though, more like you fall into either camp depending on the characters.

I’m still undecided on Ougi though. Dem sleeves are funny.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

What is this description… It’s somthing that normal *I* would do to people. *whistles*

    • Kyokai says:

Your list is huge and amusing as usual!

Where there is no One Punch Man in your list? Also, the first person I heard they struggled with Noragami. Yato is all about being a hobo god but his background is pretty convincing. Hopefully, season two would give you at least more than what you know of him. 😉

      • akagami says:

Where there is no One Punch Man in your list?

Shiny bald man. Those are a scary species. A very superficial reason, and I’m sure could be overcome, but I don’t know anything about the manga or anime because I was scared very far away.

Although if Hoshi pounds the table enough I might fall over and accidentally watch an episode.

Regarding Noragami, I think it was just the constant self-depreciation and how Yato kept looking pathetic compared to the other gods. I couldn’t get myself to like or appreciate Yato, and a lot of my enjoyment comes from the characters.

        • Kyokai says:

Lol! But Shiny Bald Men have nice backstories. You should check this out or Hoshi and I will keep punching tables and what nots.

Re: Noragami, I won’t call Yato self-depreciating. Even on worst possible situations, he sees some positive or another. He had a very tough life and is in a predicament of being a God but at least he’s trying to work up his role, even if it’s through dubious means.

          • akagami says:

I initially read that as nice backsides 〈(゜。゜)

I’ll give Noragami another whirl and see where it goes. As for OPM, hmmm…. I think I’ll wait and see how well that table stands after an episode or two.

    • JPNIgor says:

See, Shomin Sample isn’t all about the MC acting gay. He only has to act gay whenever it’s needed, which isn’t most of the time, thankfully. Shomin Sample is all about the MC teaching these confined yamato nadeshiko wannabe all about the outside world.

It’s gonna be funny. I swear.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

      • BlackBriar says:

That’s some sad news right there.

why only the Japanese rankings do matter.

I always had the belief that the non-Japanese audience shouldn’t put so much expectation in series and debate on what caters to whom which leads complaints. Anime, in its different forms, in essence, was and will always be geared toward the Japanese population and they have the final say in every aspect. Everyone else outside of them are just the foreign party with the privilege to partake.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Hence the proliferation of moebloby idol shows. I have always believed that a studio should be balanced on the type of shows it does.

That is why I always had the belief that ann opinion pieces are worthless. Absolutely worthless unless you put it into the Japanese context.

Bleh! I wouldn’t even call it a spinoff. It’s a parody, an incredibly lame looking one at that. And personally, I’m no fan of parodies based on serious shows, live action or animated. It just feels like it’s there to insult the original creation you would come to admire.
