Working!!! 02-03
Now they’re just messing with us.
Do my eyes deceive me? Is this what I think it is? Is there actual development going on here? No, I must be crazy. I’m not crazy; you’re crazy! What if everything that happened between Yachiyo and Satou was just a fantasy of Souma’s? Then he’d be crazy. In all reality though, we’ve all wanted something like this to happen for so long, which means we’re all crazy. |
How is that even possible?!
You almost have to wonder how Minegishi and Kazue even dated, let alone became married at some point. I say almost, because you’d just have to think of the other potential pairings the series throws at us to realize it, and Minegishi himself, isn’t that far-fetched after all. A masochist? Pffft. How is that going to top the person who thinks a water flea is the cutest thing in existence. Actually, if Souta wasn’t a minicon and liked getting hit by Inami, he’d be the splitting image of Minegishi. Aside from external differences (business vs casual, no megane vs megane, hair color), Minegishi likes to indulge in his masochist side just as much as Souta does with small things. As far as everything else…no mental complaints (small senpai), rough on health (Inami), useless colleague (COUGH COUGH YAMADA); it really couldn’t have been made much clearer. Each of Souta’s sisters has shown some kind of odd attachment to him in some way except Kazue, which leads me to believe that hers is related to her previous relationship to Minegishi and how similar to Souta he appears. Better to go out and have a relationship with someone that reminds you of your brother than, you know…trying to date your brother.
I want Nazuna to push me around. Wait, that didn’t come out right.
One thing about the Takanashi family that continually manages to impress me is how resourceful they are. Souta discovers these Magic Hands for training Inami; Kozue can always get a new replacement boyfriend; Izumi manages to find the strength to leave the house; Kazue pioneered an alternative use for law books; and now, Nazuna appears with a cart, because when someone is tired, pushing them in a cart is totally the first thing I’d think of. That isn’t even a snarky comment; I’d literally think about pushing them down a hill. At least I’d think it would be fun, and they would too! Probably. Izumi is mostly left out of Nazuna’s manipulative ways due to how harmless she usually is to everyone except Souta, but once Nazuna deals with it, she gets irked for a second, which is the reaction anyone could conclude is appropriate. It seems more and more probable that Souta’s premonition that Nazuna will be worse than her sisters will become reality. I still have a hard time grasping she’s only twelve.
The actual “drinking” portion of the date was about as much as you’d expect, but it sure did take long enough to get to this point. It’s not like I’m really one to talk though. Of course, Yachiyo just thinks of it as the first time she’s gone out with a friend, but the preparations leading up to the event, and the mood itself, was anything but a “simple outing” with a friend. And then there was that hug. Oh, my heartstrings. I don’t necessarily think there’s anything keeping Yachiyo from developing feelings for Satou; it’s most likely that she hasn’t thought of it. She’s gone this long without having a friend her age, so that means she’d obviously spent a bunch of time looking for potential partners. That time it was a snarky comment. Since she considers Satou her only irreplaceable friend her age, it really wouldn’t be that big of a jump to realize she has more feelings for him (or that she had them all along) than she originally thought.
Something about Yachiyo wearing the katana during this scene still manages to crack me up.
It remains to be seen whether the progress made will end up being reverted, but I can hope, right? Hope that this becomes a trend. Hope, I say! I’m still left wondering how much a part Minegishi will have in the future. It isn’t uncommon for characters in this series to only make the odd appearance, but his introduction seems like there’s more yet to happen. “I’m just here for a report” feels lacking, and Kazue’s ex-husband was fine being a faceless person up until now, so his appearance has got to mean something’s coming. I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say it’s likely their mother. I don’t even have to go out on a limb; it was pretty distinctly alluded to. She may or may not appear herself, but it’s reasonable to predict that we will learn more about the mother of the Takanashi family in the following weeks. Following in tradition, she will also like small things.

I know this isn’t the kind of show where any real progress is made, but I really, really want to see Satou and Yachiyo get together once and for all. It’s been slowly brewing since the very beginning!

True love – so pure, it had to be censored for our cold, cynical eyes to process. (>_>)

Is that the plot moving forward? AM I SNIFFING ROMANCE AROUND? Can’t believe it. It’s too good to be true.
