Mikagura - get those things away from him

Get away from my Yuuto with those things, gao!

winter15-highwTime for the continuing adventures of Eruna Ichinomiya and the cute girls around her! Last time, she had finally gotten through to Otone, and convinced her to both be her friend and join the club. Or at least the prospective club, because they need at least 3 people

Finding that Third Person

Mikagura - free advert

Hmm… can you even read that sign?

It’s not as easy as they’d hoped tho. I have to give Eruna credit, and also some to all of the others who help her, because she manages to get a lot of free advertisements by ginning up some fake reports of supernatural happenings, and then marching a sign through the background. She even writes a play for the Drama Club to put on that might start some uncomfortable rumors, with Yuuto two-timing on Nyamarin and Kumano (that would be an interesting comparison, who do you like better?). But the clock’s ticking on Eruna, because they have to apply for their club before the Midterm Battles (I still think there are no actual classes at this school).

Mikagura - it's a trap

“You thought you wanted to join? Think again!”

There’s a little bit of a problem with Otone helping to find new club members tho, and that’s Black Fujishiro. While White Otone wants to help the club, Black Otone doesn’t want anyone else to be closer to Eruna, because she finally has someone she feels close to. So when some girls are showing interest, Otone threatens them with a fight until they go away. And while Eruna insists that she wouldn’t treat Otone any different with someone else there, we’re seeing the same thing happen with Seisa, who has started feeling distant from Eruna since Otone came into the picture. I find it hard to blame Eruna completely, because she’s always had the impression that Seisa wants her to make her club, and Eruna has even come to talk to Seisa. But just like Otone can’t put herself out there and approach Eruna, neither can Seisa. There’s definitely a parallel between Otone’s worried feelings and what Seisa is experiencing now.

Mikagura - This doesn't look good

But maybe Bimii is causing a problem

And without the chance to get any new members because Otone has sent them all away, it’s down to the last resort as far as getting that third member: Bimii. Bimii’s a pretty flexible device in the show, perhaps a little too much, in that no matter what they’re doing, he’s always around. But with him impersonating an actual person, the club gets off the ground, albeit with a terrible name.

Mikagura - Otone opens up

And Otone gets to open up to Eruna some

Setting Up and Settling Things

Mikagura - Our new Tsun friend

It’s everyone’s new tsun-friend

Anything’s an excuse for a party in this show, so getting her club started and getting a club room certainly counts, and we have a party with the usual suspects. And as usual, the usual suspects means Kuzuryuu can’t bring himself to actually come in the room with anyone else, and that Seisa doesn’t show up at all. But it’s finally a chance for Otone to get perhaps a little more comfortable with the other people who are Eruna’s friends, and who would like to be friends with Otone (at least with White Otone). It was nice to see her finally open up just a little bit to the others.

Mikagura - opposite colors

Color Clash

But while everyone’s opening up, Seisa’s pulled away more. And that bothers Otone, because as close as she feels to Eruna, she realizes that Seisa is the one that Eruna is always looking toward (especially after being told by Bimii that Seisa is the one Eruna made the club to impress). So Otone sets aside her own desire to be closest to Eruna and confronts Seisa. Maybe if it was someone who was a bit more diplomatic, their meeting wouldn’t be as much of a confrontation, but when the main person trying to talk to you is Black Otone, it’s just not going to go well, leading to a battle between the two of them. There was a bit of an opening up on Otone’s part, but there was just a little too much jealousy, and of course Seisa doesn’t make things like that any easier. But Seisa seems determined to lose, even after blustering to try to avoid the fight.

So next week we find out what happens when Eruna interrupts their fight. I’m not exactly expecting Eruna to freak out about it, even finding the two people she seems to care for most at each other’s throats. But maybe it’ll get both of them to open up about their feelings toward Eruna, or at least Seisa, since I think that Otone has already done that when she explained why she was scaring off all the people interested in their club. And after we get that figured out, we can find out what this evil shade that’s taking over the school is, although I’m guessing it’s another facet of Bimii, loosed due to his wrong transformation.

She explained why she scared off the girls but she still hasn’t stopped doing it. She can’t keep attacking everyone who gets close to Eruna. She has to change, and I think she has to do it before we get to Seisa’s backstory.

Really, I’m getting tired of Otone’s crazy. It’s not cute or funny. It’s disturbing, and I want it properly addressed and resolved asap.

I think that Otone’s already been changing a bit, seeming to accept that there are other people who like Eruna and that she might be able to be friends with them as well. I think that it’s a bit harsh to call her ‘crazy’, and to say that they can just fix her. She is the way she is, and hopefully she’ll be more accepting of friendships, but to think that she should just become some ideal person with a little bit of talking to is unrealistic and dismissive. I think that it’s a fine personality quirk to have if there are other people who would accept it, and it’s not like Otone particularly likes herself that way. So there’s been movement from both directions on that, and I think that’s fine.

These powers are more dangerous than it seems. She could have killed someone. Heck, she could have harmed Seisa pretty seriously if Eruna didn’t appear right there. If you think she’s okay like that, all the power to you, but to me that attitude is a serious character flaw she has to overcome. I’m not saying she has to change completely, but she has to start to understand at least that she doesn’t own Eruna, and that obsessing about her will only make her problem to make friends worse. It would be cool, for instance, if she could apologize to the girls she scared off, and maybe even to Seisa.

I must say, for an undeniably airheaded and seemingly unambitious girl, Eruna is putting in a lot of effort and doing whatever it takes to generate members. Guess it’s true when they say “If there’s a will, there’s a way”.

But the clock’s ticking on Eruna, because they have to apply for their club before the Midterm Battles (I still think there are no actual classes at this school).

If there are actual classes, they’re obviously taking a backseat to the battles. Everything in the school so far has and is being determined by the way they play out.

As long as Otone doesn’t settle her split personality issues, the chances of Eruna’s club surviving are slim to none with Otone in the front and the deadline at her back.

Bimii’s the oddball in the mix. It’s pointed out he was originally human but now has been having trouble returning to that form. I’m inclined enough to inquire as to how all that came to be.

…literally the best part of the show. Why aren’t these two really battling yet?
