I came to close to forgetting about Jojo with all the buzz around the new shows. It feels like every single show came out this weekend. I feel absolutely flooded with anime! That would be great if I could watch it at leisure, but I need to get to blogging or else I’ll fall behind. Thank goodness for this long weekend break….Ah, but don’t you guys forget about Jojo too now! Don’t get distracted by new, shiny objects! |
I’m not a big fan of Hol Horse, so I’m glad I got to see him suffer. This whole episode pretty much revolved around different ways to embarrass him. I felt bad in the past when it was Oingo falling prey to the loopholes of Boingo’s Stand, but nothing felt more satisfying than seeing Hol Horse literally shoot himself in the head and survive the same way Avdol did. He’s just not the kind of guy I want to feel sorry for.

I would hardly call this a fight. This “showdown” was an odd one that ended before it had really begun. And man was it weird. I never thought sneezing would play such a heavy role in a battle. Polnareff’s first sneeze saved him from getting shot but indirectly caused his buddies to become roadkill. His second sneeze saved Jotaro from getting a new breathing hole in his forehead. All that chaos just from Hol Horse sticking his fingers up Polnareff’s nose. I had no clue how on Earth nasal penetration would play an important role in the showdown since it was such a random move. It was weird, but it all makes sense now. I’m not so sure the whacky set-up really paid off though.
The second big thing was the pipe prediction, which was actually fairly easy to figure out. I guessed either Hol Horse would use the wrong pipe and shoot himself or get the timing wrong and still shoot himself. At the end of the day, he shot himself and that was the end of that. It wasn’t all that exciting to see him scramble around in a back alley, trying to pay off some bored looking workers (who were fixing a pipe that leads to NOWHERE for whatever reason) to help him. Jotaro and the gang weren’t even aware they were still in danger.
Really showing that sneezes can be faster than bullets
It was a sad fight that just made me see how low Hol Horse would sink. I guess they needed to show him getting severely punished after all the damage he caused. I would have liked for Avdol or Polnareff to have done something more akin to punching his face in though. I guess he’s so low on the totem pole that he doesn’t even deserve that much time and effort from the heros. Better for him to die quietly in the shadows.
Boingo isn’t my favourite character by a long shot, but I don’t dislike him in the way I dislike Hol Horse. I actually liked that he was about to change his ways and become a good guy (or at least try to win the lottery instead of assassinating people) after all his experiences with Hol Horse. It’s perfect that he would mess it all up by neglecting to check his manga and accidentally angering Iggy. The irony never ends!
It looks like next week will feature Iggy. It took long enough for him to actually be useful. Although now that it’s happening, I can’t say I’m excited for an episode centred around a hideous-looking dog who sounds like he’s voiced by an angry hobo.

That has got to be the most mise en scene city block in all of graphic narrative fiction. I feel like literally anything can happen in that short a space. They defied both time and geometry with such skill and fortitude.
