First Impression – Triage X [NSFW]

Spring15-TriageX

Where we’re going, we don’t NEED any pants

winter15-highwWait a second. That’s gotta be the wrong icon over there on the left. *checks post header…* No, it matches up, but why on Earth is Highway doing an FI of Triage X? Did someone else get lost? Nope, noone got lost, and I actually signed up to do this show. And yes, I knew pretty much what I was getting into. Did you when you watched this show?

TriageX - The Team

The Team

The primary premise of Triage X is that there is a vigilante squad, well funded and supported, that has made it their business to get rid of some of the worst criminals it can find. And this vigilante squad just happens to be staffed primarily by hot high school girls with big boobs, or alternatively hot nurses with big boobs. And a guy named Arashi Mikami. This squad has been put together by Doctor Masamune Mochizuki, who is the chairman of the Mochizuki General Hospital, and goes around finding people who need to be killed.

TriageX - Getting rid of someone

Basically, what they do is murder people

What this group also does is lay on the medical terminology really thick. Bad guys are ‘lesions’ to be ‘excised’, Arashi is ‘on call’ to do the ‘operation’. Mochizuki is doing ‘triage’. On and on. It’s clever, but can get a little old. I guess it’s a bit of a hook for the show, and as long as the references aren’t too tortured, it’ll work out fine.

Competing Interests

TriageX - Hinako is Happy

He actually smiles!

I thought the first episode of the show played out well, giving us some bad guys to deal with, and some insight into Arashi’s (and Mikoto’s) life at school as well as on the job. I also liked that it wasn’t all about Arashi and Mikoto, bringing in Hinako Kominato as an early crush on Arashi, who even gets him to hang out with her. Another good point I thought was that Arashi isn’t completely the dour-faced ‘guy with a troubled past’. He smiles at Hinako, he agrees to walk home with her. He then skips out on her, but still isn’t completely no-fun.

TriageX - Follow the arrows for motorboating

I’m guessing she’s a bad guy, but the pasties are nice for wayfinding

On the other hand, the show’s full of some nasty people. While the first kill is the elder Aranami, his son is just as bad it seems, torturing a girl to get back at her father. I’m guessing that Taisei is actually dead after being shot in the head, but I don’t know if this is the kind of show that would bring someone back from the apparently dead like that. So there’s a very serious side to the show, although Oriha tends to lighten that up quite a bit with her demeanor.

TriageX - Say hello to my little friends

Noone will ever figure out who you are with that mask on…

Not a bad show, and I’d have to say that it didn’t overdo it with fanservice. Part of that is due to the heavy steam in the shower scene, which made for a bit of an uninteresting pan as the camera moved through steam after steam after steam. The end result of the show was a bit male-gazey, and a little bit on the ‘unrealistic’ side but the intended audience isn’t really going to complain about that. It opened up a lot of storylines in this first episode, so we’ll have to see where they go, and also how Arashi is able to satisfy his own survivor’s guilt. Not a bad production by Xebec, with mostly good character designs (although a bit anti-gravity at points) and no obvious flaws that I saw. The OP and ED are pretty good rockin’ tunes, too. So even if you think this isn’t the kind of show I’d watch, I’ll keep watching it for now.

Triaged as XXX. Mastectomy needed. Unixification Eunucification also offered.

  2. BlackBriar says:

Not bad, I guess. It’s a start, just that the story has to do something to make the male lead feel less like a robot. The girls and their different qualities can come later. Other than that, they’re doing an otherwise good job seeing that their targets truly are worthy of being hunted down like animals.

    • Highway says:

If there was one thing that Arashi had an advantage at, it was a slight one in that he actually seemed to genuinely smile at Hinako. Most of the ‘guy with a dark past’ protagonists are dour, humorless black clouds. So maybe he’s a robot that smiles.

Triage’s mangaka is Shoji Sato, previously the artist for the Highschool of the Dead manga series.

I swear, the boob sizes here make the DxD girls’ ones look like ant-bites.

  4. Kyokai says:

This is an ecchi with some plot device, which is better than your usual ecchi just for the heck of it. The HoTD character designs were screaming off their boob strings and I literally laughed throughout the beginning scene but the rest was a-okay.

  5. Bobob101 says:

You’re right highway, there aren’t any flaws to notice because the whole show is SHIT! Is your ability to tell bad anime apart from good ones bugging out on you? It’s okay to call something out as terrible! What, are you going to recommend Violence Jack next because it has an “interesting characterization?!”

      Puts the contact pads.
      Sets defib to 360J.

-_- Someone defib spammy please. Thank you.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, I actually like this show

        • BlackBriar says:

Hate to break it to you but the intense aggression in your initial comment would’ve indicated otherwise. It gives off the wrong impression in a drastic way.

          • Bobob101 says:

That was kind of the point. But while I don’t believe a shows quality and enjoyment level are always equivalent, I gotta call something shitty if that’s what it is.

            • BlackBriar says:

Normally when someone calls something “shitty” is because they dislike it so much the mere sight repulses them and never want to see it again.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              @BB

Like how A/Z ended? *deletes it from storage*

            • BlackBriar says:

@Di Gi Kazune: You’re still hung on that? If it’s a bad show to you, bringing it up all the time is just poisoning yourself. Let it go already. It’s a new season. Me? I’m indifferent on the show.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Mmmm…. show by rock fix… tasty… next week:skylion’s middle school band lolis.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Hate is a very efficient fuel.

            • BlackBriar says:

              One that is too common.

  6. Bobob101 says:

Ok let me be clear. This show is a piece of shit. I like to watch shitty terrible shows every once in a while (see Mad Bull or Crystal Triangle). I will continue to call this show shit AND continue to watch it because frankly, I wish more anime more would embrace their terrible nature. That’s why I prefer this to say Brynhilder, which is also terrible but it thinks it’s better than it is.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Somehow, I am impressed at the oxymoronic-ness of the comment.

    • BlackBriar says:

Okay, this comment is amusingly odd. Normally you’d expect people who like their shows not to shoot them down at the same time.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Something like nuking your own capital in Civ?

      • bobob101 says:

All I can really say is there are enjoyable terrible shows and terrible shows that I absolutely despise. I would call both Triage and Denpa Kyoshi bad, but the act of watching Denpa actually makes me mad. Where as with Triage it is just stupid, crass, anatomically incorrect on epic levels, and slightly cringe inducing. Its kind of like how I can honestly appreciate watching Overfiend, but I don’t like Wicked City that much.

I refuse to denigrate my own opinions in such a way.

  7. skylion says:

Since this is a “medical” show, I would hope the writing address some of the realism of the girl’s lower back and shoulder pain. Plus the overwhelming tenderness of the “subject matter” in question…

I think I would prefer my ecchi to be on the comedy side of things. Its’ no guarantee, but comedy, unlike violence, doesn’t make me feel it will devolve to unfortunate circumstances…

But it had some decent action to it. And the female characters aren’t totally offensive in the design. I’m hopeing it gets a bit smarter. A doctor would know that a “lesion” is just a symptom, and would look for a way to eliminate what causes it first. But that could end up a holier than thou cluster-fub…

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

*Sits in the bloodbank sipping… something*

Then you remember this is anime. Realism need not be an obligation. 😉
