Team up! Join the Bright Side

Metanorn_Hiring_2015

Metanorn’s looking for new Team Members and it could be YOU!

Update: This placement is now closed.

winter15-kyoIt’s been a long while I posted one of these. We have been quite busy a site after all. Not missing a single day’s post since 25th July, 2010 is no joke. A lot of blood, sweat and tears goes into reviewing the recently airing anime for Metanorn’s varied team, who juggle RL with fandom interest. And with different level of priorities comes opportunity. Thus, I am here to announce that we are on the hunt for fresh blood and we are looking for animanga enthusiasts, who love to share their opinion.

You can say, but Kyo, you have quite a big team already. And I’ll say, Metanorn is lucky to have such an amazing group of people at its core. However, due to few hiatuses and goodbyes, expansion is in order for the continued enthusiasm injections. So, we are looking for YOU, delicious Fresh Meat. Come, join the bright side and who knows you’ll get to participate in our secret projects.

Who are we looking for?

  • Anibloggers for Episodics, Editorials, Manga reviews, Recommendations, Impressions and Occasional News update (2-3 Positions)
  • Graphic Designer for a person who is hands on with Adobe Photoshop for graphics. Knowing HTML/CSS would be a plus (1 Position)
  • Video Editor for hands on video editing (1 Position)

Good-to-have qualities?

  • Fandom Juice: Avid watcher/reader of anime/manga
  • Dedication: Has more than an interest in writing/editing and sharing thoughts with others, as the bottom line will always be to enjoy the process.
  • Experience: Knowledge about blogging and screen-capping (this is not mandatory as I can always provide a tutorial on how things go in the back-end), and visual editing would be a plus.

What will you get in return?

  • Rapt audience! Our community is not only friendly but knowledgeable and a hoot.
  • Amazing Team, who are quite international and awesome, operating from different time zones.
  • A second family.

How to apply?

Email your application to [email protected], with below details by 2nd April 2015:

  1. An introduction about yourself, some info about how you came to love the fandom, your interest in writing/editing, etc.
  2. If you are already writing/aniblogging/editing (AMVs/Podcasts, etc.), provide relevant samples.
  3. Aniblogger applicants should submit an example episodic/editorial/review post on a recent airing anime. Add in screencaps/images to show relevance to your post. Preferred format for this is MS Word document/ PDF/ Google docs. Graphic Designer/Video Editor applicants should provide/link, actual fandom relevant graphic/video files they have worked with as sample.
  4. Answer these fandom questions:
    • What kind of anime and/or manga you like?
    • What are you currently watching/reading? Which titles you followed for current season?
    • From the Spring 2015 shows, which titles look interesting to you? Particularly for aniblogging, do you have a favourite genre and/or shows that you would like to cover?
    • If you get selected, what categories (e.g.: for Episodics, Editorials, Manga reviews, Recommendations, Impressions and News update, etc.), would you like to be involved with?

Pro Messages from the Metanorn Team:

Love writing about anime? Metanorn lets you do that on a platform where you can interact with others and make a real impact. You don’t even have to change out of your pajamas to apply, so there’s no reason to be nervous. Honestly, I’m a little excited at the concept of getting to be friends with more fresh meat! Just write the way you usually do and see what happens. I personally applied to Metanorn on a whim and then continued blogging all throughout university, somehow balancing it all. You can do it too!

winter15-highwHey everyone! It would be great to have more people join us, because getting the chance to hear more people’s opinions is great! I know it can be a bit intimidating to put your name out there, and face that worrying of “Am I really good enough?” I know that I certainly felt that when I applied to write here at Metanorn, even though I’d been aniblogging elsewhere for more than half a year. But don’t think you need to have that kind of background! So come on and apply and we’d love to have some more new friends!

Looking for a place to share your love of all things anime and manga related? Then look no further than Metanorn! We hope you think hard about joining our current team because we always have a blast with each other through written posts, tag teams or even podcast style posts! So if any of that sounds interesting or fun to you I highly recommend that you consider joining us!

While it is true I am no longer titled Fresh Meat, I still am, more or less Fresh to the writer’s den. Come…join us. Be Fresh. Be Meat. It’s practically harmless.

Hello readers and lurkers! Well, we’re hiring again and I hope you take some time to apply. About 4 years ago (closer to 5 now, I guess?), I was in your position, and believe me, taking a chance and sending in my application was completely worth it! I might have a little (okay, a lot of) bias here, but the community here is wonderful, and it’s fun being able to talk about anime like this with a variety of people. We don’t bite, so don’t be afraid to apply! …Well, most of us don’t bite, but we’re nice people! Honest!

Woohoo! It’s been awhile since we had some fresh blood…I mean fresh new writers added on to the Meta team! Don’t be afraid dear lurkers and readers, as long as you have passion for whatever you’re covering, whether it be anime or manga, it’ll be no problem. And if you’re worried about your writing, still try it out anyway! I know I was worried when I applied way back when, but give it a chance and see what happens~ Good luck and hope to see you on the team~!

Hello Metanorn followers! If you are reading this, you are likely contemplating the idea of joining the team. Well, I’m here to help. Let me start by saying that the Metanorn dungeon is a myth and that there are certainly no torture devices down there. Also, we are definitely not plotting to take over the world… yet. So with that said, let me tell you what Metanorn is really about. If you love watching anime, reading LNs, VNs, and manga, or following general “otaku” culture and news, then this is the place for updates and discussion on the things you hold so dear. And if you also happen to have a hankering to express yourself with more than just comments on our lovely establishment, then applying to join the team is what you want to do. You could be the one writing the posts that initiate the discussions. You could be the one monkeying around on the podcasts and live streams. You could be the one getting press passes to conventions and reporting back on your adventures. You could be the one hanging out and having a blast with the rest of the team on Skype and Google+. The list of perks goes on and on. So what are you waiting for? If you’ve ever so much as thought about joining the family, then go ahead, take the plunge!

winter15-kyoIt’s been 5 solid years since I started writing for Metanorn. I applied on a whim and here we are five years down the line and many million views later, still pretty much kicking. Metanorn has literally become a personal milestone for me and I love every moment of interacting with the amazing team and our brilliant community. We joke, we laugh and sometimes write in frenzy, not only about the shows that we are watching but upcoming releases and random fandom skits. It never gets old and the place is always lively. Come join us, won’t you?

The Deadline is 2nd April 2015 (±12hours)! I would like to welcome guest bloggers; however, you should have a blog of your own to qualify. Also note, if you don’t receive my acknowledgement within three days of your application, please email back or comment here for a reminder.

In case of any questions, comment below, email or tweet. We would look forward to your applications as we will be judging all of them and quite thoroughly too (we had three rounds in previous hiring). Do share this opening with your friends, who you might think would be interested in the position(s) mentioned above. Good luck and happy applying.

    Too laaazyy-nyo. :3

    • BlackBriar says:

I’m so itching to put you through a lie detector test after that statement.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Have you seen my half-assed blog? It’s currently in extended stasis. My blogging is so subjected to my whims and mood. That itself is already Part 2 of the application form.

Your and my Part 3s lie in pieces all over the site. 😛

        So yes. Lazy-nyo. :3

        • Kyokai says:

Everyone gets lazy some time or the other. Everyone has a right to! Like this weekend I have no plans to do zilch!

    • Foshizzel says:

Well even now I will admit to being lazy xD

  2. BlackBriar says:

*cries a river upon seeing post* Nyaaaah!! I’d love to apply but I have a number of things going that needs straightening out. That and I’ve never made an official summary of a sort.

  3. Irenesharda says:

Hmm, I’ve never done it officially, but being a blogger might be fun. Maybe I’ll apply? 😛

    • skylion says:

      Do eeeet…..!!!!!

    • BlackBriar says:

If you do, you have my support. I’ve already seen what you’re capable of.

    • Irenesharda says:

Hmm, so you think if I’ve never had a blog of my own before I can still apply? I just never had the thought to make up one of my own before. I’m not too well versed in it, but I’m a pretty fast learner. That’s kind of my only worry since I don’t have much experience in it…

      • skylion says:

The only experience I really had was posting to a few anime oriented communities on Livejournal waaaaay back in 2003. Well, that and running my mouth of in comments here….

        • BlackBriar says:

Well, that and running my mouth of in comments here….

I’ll say! Before you joined the ranks, there was nearly a 2000 comment gap between us in the top 20 with you in second place. After that, the difference dropped drastically!! 😀

      • Hoshi says:

~I had no experience either when I applied, so I say give it a go! Eventually you get the hang of it and get better the more you write~

        • skylion says:

If nothing else, one of us will beat you into shape…in on way or form. Just like Hoshi did for me in my first post!

      • Kyokai says:

I didn’t have a personal blog when I started aniblogging as well. We are only looking for dedicated contributors and that is the main requirement; WordPress and blogging knowledge is a detail that can be run through with any of us later.

        • skylion says:

          Three cheers for dedication…

        • BlackBriar says:

          You got to start somewhere…

        • Irenesharda says:

          Thank you, boss lady!

        • Irenesharda says:

I was just scared of this part:

I would like to welcome guest bloggers; however, you should have a blog of your own to qualify.

So I wasn’t sure if I would even qualify or not. 🙂

          • JPNIgor says:

Yeah, that scared me as well hahaha. I guess, “gest bloggers” would be someone to post once in a while but not a part of the MetaTeam…

    • Foshizzel says:

      Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

    • Irenesharda says:

Well, I decided to go through with it and apply, it’s in God’s hands now. We’ll see what happens. 🙂

  4. Bobob101 says:

The last time you guys recruited, how many people applied?

    • Highway says:

I don’t really know, the last time they recruited here was before I joined. Sumairii, skylion, and I all made speculative contact with Kyokai and Metanorn happened to need some writers at that time.

I’d also like to add that I think we all try to be as supportive as possible with all the writers. We discuss stuff all the time, have long-running conversations with each other about shows we’re watching, discuss things to blog about, help each other out with viewpoints. You’ve probably seen us mention them sometimes, but it can be really helpful. So if you think you’d like to give it a try, but aren’t really sure about being left out on an island, we definitely wouldn’t do that to you. 🙂

      • skylion says:

I actually made small overtures here and there for a period of at least two years. They were, in hindsight, weak tea, and didn’t go anywhere. Along the way, I probably made all the excuses.

Then I was very interested a year ago, and stopped making excuses. I wrote a review for a First Impression of WIXOSS and joined the ranks.

    • Overcooled says:

Hopefully this isn’t too much insider info. Anyways, we’ve had a few rounds of recruitment and I thiiiiiink it’s usually around 10-20 people who apply.

So if you’re worried about competing against hundreds or thousands of applicants – don’t.

      • bobob101 says:

One other question about your process: do you make the final decision based on a committee, or is all up to Kyokai in the end? I guess what I am asking is Metanorm united under the banner of a single all powerful leader, or is it some kind of democratic thingy?

        • Kyokai says:

I think I was quite clear in the last paragraph that the applications will be reviewed by the team. We usually vote and short-list applicants and go through the same process to arrive at a number of writers we need by the end.

  5. JPNIgor says:

Yeah, I ended up applying =D Hope it goes well.

  6. akagami says:

    Hmmmm

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a recruitment post before (or probably missed it). It was like… A New Encounter! A wild Metanorn Blogger has appeared! (/ 0.0)/

    • Overcooled says:

We’ve had a few recruitment posts before and we’re doing it again! :3

    • Foshizzel says:

Same as OC I have seen an been apart of a few recruitments~

    • akagami says:

Hmmm, I’ve been lurking for some time… the recruitment posts probably went up mid-season, when I’m usually less active because I’m usually behind in my shows, so I can’t read or comment on blog posts for fear of spoiling myself. But I do lurk around though (ノ・ェ・)ノ

      • akagami says:

Like a lot of the shows Highway blogs on, because I’m just not caught up yet >.<

Oh, and I finished Ookami Shoujo! The mid-parts were a bit painful, as they were two oddballs trying to find their way in love but kept doing these activities that made me cringe. But their relationship development was cute and the ending was nice and sweet, which helped move it up a bit from my original score (ended with a 7 for me).

        • Highway says:

I say you should just read the posts and spoil yourself. 🙂 That way you can know that you want to continue watching. Plus I totally need more people commenting on my posts even if you didn’t watch it… but reading the post will induce you to watch it.

      • akagami says:

I’ll just reply to myself again, because this is fun!!!

New seasons are great, because it’s the equalizer, everyone is the same as me (we haven’t seen anything yet). So I can comment on first impressions (that and I force myself to preview all my on-my-list shows to determine if I’m going to follow or backlog said shows. That’s usually why most of my activity is usually around season starts.

        • Kyokai says:

And what about when the season ends?

          • akagami says:

You mean when all the season finale reviews come around? Nooo, can’t spoil myself!

        • BlackBriar says:

On a hypothetical situation, how would do with next season’s animes? Here are the results from an ANN poll for most anticipated anime.

          1. Gintama
          2. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works
          3. Digimon Adventure tri.
          4. The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan
          5. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. Zoku
          6. High School DxD BorN
          7. Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma
          8. The Heroic Legend of Arslan
          9. Nisekoi:
          10. Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine
          11. Seraph of the End
          12. Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture
          13. Uta no Prince-sama – Maji Love Revolutions
          14. My Love Story!!
          15. Blood Blockade Battlefront
          16. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid
          17. Ninja Slayer From Animation
          18. Sound! Euphonium
          19. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
          20. Kyōkai no Rinne

          • JPNIgor says:

woah, SNAFU is actually 5th. Hopefully they will increase the budget on the animation.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Sankaku’s list is more interesting. 😛

Vivid is high because it has LOLi. I would still prefer a 3rd season of Nanoha&Fate.

  7. Overcooled says:

Good luck to everyone who applies! Bloggers, video editors, and graphic designers alike.

  8. Kyokai says:

This is to notify that the submissions are now closed. We are in the process of internal shortlisting and would be getting in touch with applications within a week to 10 days.
