Welcome back mecha fans! Yes the new year is starting, but we haven’t forgotten about these three great mechs that will be continuing on through the winter season, but me and Jrow decided to drop Gundam Reconguista and Gundam Build Fighters TRY due to the lack of comments related to those two shows because we wanted to at least give them time to be mentioned or do you want us to keep them in the miniTALK? Do let us know in the comment section!

I don’t mind G-Reco to be dropped since there’s really not much loss with that. While I can somewhat understand the happenings of G-Reco better these past few episodes, it’s still quite a mess. Keep GBF Try. I’m still watching it but I just forget to comment in here due to my busy schedule. I’ll try to comment more from now on.

That said, Meijin Kawaguchi is ameijinmazing once again. His OST just makes you pumped. It’s hard to pull off that kind of entrance from the sky but he makes it so easy. He was also decent in trying to snap Yuuma out of his slump. Now I’m interested to see what Yuuma will do to improve his Gunpla.

Adou Saga is definitely an edgemaster. His Gunpla itself is pretty edgy as well with a mishmash of parts. A revolver, Fangs, notDarknessFinger and Gundam heads as hands ala Devil Gundam. It’s weird we don’t see any Gunpla like this until now. Every Gunpla has a base that doesn’t deviate from its original and is just customized with better parts but his Gunpla is just weird.

And is that Sugita Tomokazu voicing a character there? Is he finally going to pilot a Gundam? inb4 just a Zaku variant or something.

Gundam shows exist only for one reason: To sell GunPla.

PS: Can someone save my comment below from Spammy again?

    • Foshizzel says:

@Belatkuro: Yeah I agree with you! Every time I sit down to write up notes for the Reconguista recordings I notice that it tends to be all over the place as far as “plot” goes, but at least things are progressing and I hope after they spend time on the moon they will iron out the fine details on that universe or attempt to explain WTF is going on.

As far as build fighters goes it is still maintaining that balance of keeping it fun while throwing in some dramatics through character interaction and don’t worry me and Jrow aren’t begging for comments on GBF! We just like to discus things about it and create a conversation.

Meijin is just as cool as he was in season one and I like that and I completely forgot there was a white haired girl introduced in episode twelve! YES THE OST is so freaking amazing! I Loveeee it <3

Adou's gunpla was insane and yeah out of all the suits this season and ill even say season one combined his is the most out there as far as overall design and mix of various parts.

Yep! Sugita Tomokazu is in the series and will appear next week as Kei Karima

@DiGi: Well that could be said about any mecha/anime series in the end they all sale figures of some kind or add sexual scenes for BD so in the end all of them push some sort of merchandise, but yeah for the most part Gundam and Precure are the only series that come to my mind as shows specifically made to push toys even though I still stand by my statement that all shows do it.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Precure H. I am sure Precure must have been originally made for H because the bucketloads of H-doujin coming from any comiket is… mindstaggering.

Speaking of Precure, you must be planning to evangelise the new Precure Princess series, aren’t you. 😛

        • Foshizzel says:

Lol well every series has H-doujins hahaha

Of course! It looks kind of interesting even though nobody here will be watching it xD

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

And do you give an F if noone watches it but yourself? Like I do with Di Gi Charat. DEJIKO FTW!!!

            • Foshizzel says:

LOL not really there are a lot of fans of precure so ill be watching anyway~

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

The Precure series is catered to two important demographics:

              i) The 10 +/- 2 years old females.
ii) The over 25 year old males.

Guess which of the two has spending pawaa—

            • Foshizzel says:

Yeah but those H manga’s sales don’t go back to the original creator and yes generally older guys watch, but most have children of their own so they watch together at least I assume so…

Course the adults have the income to support long running series like Gundam or Precure; however the same can be said of Disney! Who is buying their stuff? Adults with children.

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

Huh? Gundam? Were you talking about Gundam in Mechanorn?

Seriously, one (okay, THE ONLY) reason I take note of Gundam is their sociopolitical commentary. Fortunately or unfortunately (open to interpretation), all that has been channeled into the OTHER Sunrise show that is mildly interesting this season:

    Cross Ange.

Which in itself is completely borked (yet mildly interesting despite my copious amounts of cynicism and sarcasm). Unfortunately, this week’s (week of Jan 2015-1-1) episode title should have been Chelski in Flames as Arsenal stood. The irony.

    • Foshizzel says:

I will always attempt to push my love of Gundam even if nobody cares~

Which one is that? I will guess Wing? SEED? DESTINY? 00? Either way I think most of the war themed gundam can come off as “been there done that rather not again.” because they re-use similar plot or do they? I mean we can say that about any war themed anime or anime with two or factions fighting each other *cough* Aldnoah.Zero *cough*

Ange has some interesting ideas ill give it that much, but honestly I think some fans watched to see if there was more rapey stuff was going to happen and I feel if they removed those moments Ange could have brought in more mecha fans. That said we got what we got because Sunrise has the mentality of screw the haters we do what we want.

Also when you get down to certain plot reveals isn’t Ange just a another repainted Gundam series? We have several factions against each other, mysterious magical abilities (New Types), OP main character (Ange = Kira from SEED), genetically created humans (Coordinator’s from SEED) the only thing missing is a masked enemy and space battles.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Hence why I said it was all channeled into the OTHER Sunrise show. Sunrise = Gundam.

        Space battles = Sky battles
        Masked enemies = Shape Shifters

You could rename this to Sunrisenorn 😛

        • Foshizzel says:

I totally would if Aldnoah.Zero was made by Sunrise LOL

          • BlackBriar says:

Urobuchi must have been too expensive to win over. 😉

            • Foshizzel says:

If they got Urobuchi to do a series I would want him to something Gundam related or an original product and speaking of him I saw Expelled from Paradise which was kinda meh to me, but it had some awesome action moments and a decent plot.

        • BlackBriar says:

It would take some time getting used to such a name.

      • BlackBriar says:

That said we got what we got because Sunrise has the mentality of screw the haters we do what we want.

Hey, someone’s got to be the underdog and take risks. 😉

        • Foshizzel says:

Oh I don’t think that is a bad mentally for them to have cause it works for a lot of studios and it gives them room to experiment which is what Sunrise did with Valvrave, Buddy Complex and now Cross Ange which are fairly decent.

          • Highway says:

Cross Ange is like they looked at Valvrave and said “Yeah, this was really too stupid and out there” and then looked at Buddy Complex and said “This was too boring and normal” and thought “Ok, let’s make something down the middle. Kinda outrageous, but not idiotically implausible.” That’s the way Cross Ange seems.

  3. akagami says:

I’ve been disappointed with both Gundam Build and Gundam G, so I haven’t been following either.

I was surprised to find out that there is an official world Gunpla competition. I just saw the 2014 winners, and they were very well done. I liked the first and third place winners, very detailed. The junior runner-up was pretty cute too.

    • Foshizzel says:

With Gundam G I can understand, but Gundam Build fighters? Did you see season one or not really? I think the purpose of Gundam build fighters is to inject some new blood into a franchise that is slowly dying after countless super serious war themed Gundam which is why we have Build Fight, but if you are going into it seeking the serious war elements you will find yourself extremely bored. For me personally I find it to be quite refreshing because it has some great characters that keep me wanting more every week combined with awesome battles and a great OST for an overall enjoyable experience.

Then again every fan is different and they might see Gundam Build Fight more as an annoying addition to the popular franchise rather than something fun and exciting.

Those are some cool Gunpla winners 😀

      • akagami says:

I got through about 3-4 episodes of the first season, but just couldn’t stay interested. I suppose if I had an interest in models, it might have been a different story.

It’s not a bad idea, it just isn’t up my alley. Battle-game type shows have never really been my type of show, unfortunately.

        • Foshizzel says:

Ah gotcha! Yeah it is probably not a series for you or general fans of Gundam and I know quite a few people that love Gundam, but they don’t care or want to watch Build Fighters so I understand perfectly.

  4. skylion says:

Why DRAGON Vivian making curry isn’t a show, I don’t even know?

  5. BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: Finally caught up after being three episodes behind. It gets interesting the more the story goes along and I’m liking the hell out of it. Got to hand it to Sunrise, they know how to make you emotional about their content. Whether it’s good or bad. Really, Ange’s world is pretty screwed up.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Really, Ange’s world is pretty screwed up.

Only realised it now? 😛 The writing was on the wall since… episode 1 >_>

    • Foshizzel says:

Got to hand it to Sunrise, they know how to make you emotional about their content

True and it all depends who is writing the story I guess cause Buddy Complex didn’t have a whole lot of that going on unless people felt sorry for Hina…

  6. Namaewoinai says:

…So this is what the DRAGONs are, they are once to be…norma/old humans then…hmmm, Poor Ms. Lost Princess (Ange) seems like they don’t want to harm another…people!

still, it is a good chance to i…dunno… divert the DRAGONs to normas cause…and…UGH…Sorry for the english anyways!

i wonder that man took the Vertex DNA and turn those humans/normas into DRAGONs

    • Foshizzel says:

Dragons r people! DAAAAYUM! I swear Ange can’t get a lucky break ever…

I guess “god” had to use DNA from something to re-create life so he probably used DRAGON DNA as a base and something went bad over time with the mana users having children? IDK we will find out soon I hope!

    • BlackBriar says:

still, it is a good chance to i…dunno… divert the DRAGONs to normas cause

If the Normas ever find a way to communicate with the DRAGONs, then I can see them forming some kind of alliance. It would be bothersome if they all had to sing like Ange did to find out the one she was about to kill was Vivian.
