Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders S2 – 02

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 204

JoJo’s Barking Adventure

This season I’ll be blogging about fabulous ladies in Yurikuma and fabulous men (and dogs?) in Jojo. This sounds like the perfect, harmonic balance of ying and yang.

Iggy isn’t exactly the saving grace I expected him to be. I figured his powers would make up for him being a giant asshole, but it turns out he’s only helpful if you specifically force him into situations where he has no choice but to do something useful. He’ll only ever save someone else if it means that it prolongs his own survival. That’s not so great for a group of guys constantly being attacked by Stands who need all the back-up they can get. I get that this sort of survival of the fittest behaviour makes sense for a stray dog who just obeys whatever instincts keep it alive.  It’s just unfortunate that Iggy is also smug as hell about it to boot, making his unco-operative nature all the more irritating.

Awww, they’re bonding

Personality aside, I will admit he adds some interesting dynamics to fights. I kind of like the concept of Iggy actually being quite powerful and that the Jojo gang has to think up creative ways to strongarm him into doing what they want. It means they have to work a little harder if they want some back-up, meaning they have to juggle both outwitting the enemy and outwitting Iggy. The only way to get Iggy to fight is to trick him…and that may involve some interesting tricks later on. Meanwhile, Iggy just wants to eat gum and take a nap. He’s a jerk, but it makes sense that he’s not ready to risk his life for a bunch of strangers who kidnapped him and brought him to a massive sandbox OF MURDER. Everyone else on the Jojo team is always super psyched to punch stuff and do dangerous things, so it’s nice to have someone content to just stay alive.

So I’m still not totally on board with this ugly, rodent-like dog, but I’ll deal with it. I also didn’t mind getting to see more of his powers, such as his sand clone and sand hang glider. It looks like the sky is the limit and Iggy can really make his Stand into whatever he wants. For a dog, he’s surprisingly smart to decide on taking to the skies to avoid his enemy. This half of the fight was mostly mind games, with Jojo and Iggy fighting amongst themselves on their way to get to the N’Doul. Once Jotaro arrives, he really doesn’t have to do much to win the fight. As per usual: one punch and it’s time for lunch. It’s the build-up that was more important – and I’m thankful for it because we got to learn more about Iggy.

I’m so gullible for believing that when he brought the hat back he would be transformed into a kind, docile puppy. I’m worse than Polnareff.

“Guess I’ll take a nice sip of OOPS I MISSED”

It also looks like the gang has a ways to go before they run into Dio. He’s got 9 (8 now) minions based after the Egyptian origin of tarot cards/Egyptian Gods. It’s still amusing how Dio’s sexiness is enough to gather all of these minions and get them to go so far as to commit suicide for him. Just one look at those hypnotic abs and you’re ready to serve Dio-sama all your life. Hell, I don’t even blame them. It’s going to be a long road to get to Dio, but I’ve decided to just try and enjoy the journey there instead of being disappointed that every new enemy isn’t Dio. There’s a lot more to see here other than Dio’s rockin’ body, believe it or not. And I don’t even know what’s going down in the preview so next week (something about oranges and Oingo Boingo) should prove to be interesting.

Now, remember who those hypnotic abs belong to originally! Out-smarting Iggy is probably a good wrinkle for the show.

It’s funny you mention it, but I guess yuri kuma and JoJo are pretty much polar opposite shows in every way. Though I only say the first yuri episode so it might be too soon to call.

Next week will be an amazingly funny episode, so get ready to sweat.
