Welcome back to the Relic Hunt folks! This weeks leg of the journey takes us back to the Principality of Hartgen. So suit up, arms yourselves, and let’s enter the competition.

Careful Consideration
Toru has an octopus on his head….his argument is invalid
At first I thought that this was simply a transition episode from the Island/Fortune arc to the Tournament arc. But while it was doing that, it was also being quite subversive in some of it’s world building and characterizations. The first one that hit me was Toru and Chaika’s quite moment on the beach (with obligatory Akari interuptus hunting and game review). She reflects, after discovering the real truth behind her origins. From the first episode last season, her mission has been to gather the remains, and put them to rest. Burial. It is for the living after all, a funeral. But she has some degree of hesitancy about collecting the remains. Is this really what she should be doing? I think she is on the same path as always, but her purpose has changed. To put this part of her life to rest and begin a new part of her life.

Contrast this with Bohdan, who is steadfast in her duty, no doubts, no remorse. Two sides of the same coin. But we still don’t know what that coin is to be spent on. Guy is not a steady marker any longer as Toru asks quite bluntly, “Who is he working for?” We’ve assumed he was part of Gaz’s program all along, but this episode made me feel like we may be seeing a different agenda very soon. He did try to convince our new Razor-sama to come over to the king’s side; and it was pretty clear that king was Hartgen.

I think we might be seeing a new Chaika very soon…
Well something is fishy about the tournament from the beginning. It isn’t really the grand prize either. Hartgen is right in that he can give the winner the remains he won in the war. It’s his, he can do with it what he pleases. But, it’s the fight to the death part that has everyone on tenterhooks. It shouldn’t be that surprising really. Hartgen won the heart by risking his life, and since he has a very martial bent, the rules are going to be much the same. Nearly every combatant seems possesed, or cursed in a way that has all three groups, Red’s, White’s, and Purple’s nonplussed. Well, they did spend quite a few moments on how desperate the old war’s former solider’s had become. Seems to me like a match made in a place you call The Castle of Madness.
Guy’s Way

To put a very fine point on it, there’s a great deal to be concerned about when it comes to Liva. As Matthäus considers, a weapon such as her/it with all the magical fuel the Taboo Emperor can give, will be devastating to the state of play in the Alliances. There are already rumors of vast flying ships on the borders, and this is just one more migraine waiting to manifest. But what is Guy’s stake in all this. If we assume he is on his own agenda, or as I am thinking, Hartgen’s agenda, what are the sides going to be in a coming conflict? And….other than moe moe hnnnnnnnnng reasons, why make a weapon to look like a cute girl? Chaika is treating her as a girl, as a person. Is she mistaken, and how will that resolve?
Choose your fights carefully
With this much unrest in the world, what will it take to tip the balance? Is the Island the only one of it’s kind? Are the other flying fortresses guarding something bigger and more bad ass? Is Gaz really going to make a comeback, or is his plan being stolen out from under him and being re-purposed? We’ve seen both the Chaika twins eager to watch events unfold, as if a grand plan is well underway, and we’ve seen a rather carnivorous mystery Chaika as well. If anything, this show has not been showing any tells, and is bold in it’s betting. I’m game for this hand.

Wow, Chiwa Saito playing two bad ass, over the top, bad ass, crazy powerful, bad ass LOLis this season. Here as Fredrica, and over in Bahamut as Rita the Necromancer. But both are being treated like so much sealed awesome in a can. Does the skylion have to get all tin-opener on some writer’s asses?! Let these girls play!
This show never ceases to be fun to watch. I continue to love, and continue to write about, how much I have loved the pacing on both the world building, the fantasy, the characters and the over all presentation. But they have set a rather dark stage here haven’t they? So much on the line, and so much of it exploding in the just the right place. Can’t wait to see how they pull it off.

Heh, the liberties allowed in the tournament serve as proof to show how easily humans give into their base, obscure instincts once there’s something to gain. Just look at the participants going wild, showing no mercy or hesitation.
We know Chaika is hesitant to gather the remains now that the cat’s out of the bag. A natural reaction for anyone realizing they’ve been living a lie. Though Bohdan seems unfazed by the news and continues her agenda with conviction. I’d like to know what’s making her press forward despite knowing she no longer has an obligation to do so.
The more Guy shows up, the less trustworthy. This latest development in taking Niva and tormenting Gillette is no exception. I’m going to go on a limb and assume he may be Gaz reborn.

I had the exact same thought regarding Guy. He certainly seems to be pushing people and events along a pre-determined path and that would fit with what we know about Gaz. If he’s not Gaz, he must be another instrument of Gaz’s.

I think Bohdan simply doesn’t believe it. Or if the story of “orphans” is true, that’s for White and the rest of the fakes. In her mind, Red is the Real Deal.
As far as Guy is concerned he may have another master we’ve yet to see fully pulling his strings.

Frederica was too funny. Whether it’s gorging on shellfish or happily baring her fangs at the thought of tearing people apart. The latter is her best part. Denied any opportunity to hedonistically lash out, I don’t think it will take long for her to get any action.
