MetaVerse Episode 47: Anime Pilgrimage

Going to places where anime has taken us

Hey all, on this ep of MetaVerse, we talk about how some areas that you see in anime are modeled after real life areas around Japan. We do leave Japan at some point for a bit, not after shopping a bunch at Akihabara, and we also go fictional with some locations you’re only gonna find in anime.

Gah! I said it in the ‘cast, I’ll say it in print. DON’T GO THERE!

Nice choice opening the podcast with the first Durarara!! OP Single: Uragiri no Yuuyake.

If I were an author and said I wanted my story to take place in Japan, I’d want the environment to be as authentic as possible. Series like Durarara and Tokyo Ghoul are very dedicated to that. Would visit Ikebukuro but stay away from the 20th Ward. Plus, Tokyo Tower was attacked on one of the episodes for Tokyo ESP. It’s probably easy as pie for the residents to figure out where the characters are just by looking at the background and certain landmarks.

What show took place in Britain? Well, Hellsing is one of them. That museum where Integra and Maxwell had their conversation in the 3rd OVA was real if I’m correct. Don’t forget that in Jormungand, the characters were jet setting. They’ve been to Italy, Africa etc…

Fantasy places I’d go to: Itogami Island (Strike the Blood), Academy City (Index/Railgun), Disboard (No Game, No Life), Nanae Island (Nanana’s Buried Treasure), Little Garden (Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?), Sakura City (Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta).

Those are some of the best Fantasy places. I really wanted to mention some or all of them, but settled for a place I would personally like to visit. Glad to see you bring them up!

In those locations, I’d never have a dull day. Always exciting.

I also have a few places in mind that people should stay away from unless they have a death wish. Such would be: Sotoba Village (Shiki), the town from Another, the Lost Christmas infected version of Japan (Guilty Crown), Sidonia (Knights of Sidonia), The Lightless Realm (M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane), Edo (Mushibugyou), the world invaded by BETA (Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse), the world in Attack on Titan and Shinsekai Yori.
