…I don’t know how else to put it. This half of the game was both adorable and absolutely terrifying. www Anyways, it’s been a while since I said that I’d put this out considering that I finished the game back then, but I was waiting to make this my 300th post. Uh, it’s not because I was putting this off, I swear!
Kawana Hina is a transfer student to the super elite school, Saint Christopher, due to the family moving for her father’s promotion. When she first arrives though, there’s a teacher’s meeting going on. Though that has nothing to do with anything and is just a convenient plot excuse to have her meet all of her new (ikemen) teachers at once. The teachers all have some sort of dark side to their personality. But it’s not like Hina knows that yet. It’s not until she has to go for “special guidance lessons” for breaking school regualtions that she learns that her teachers are all ドS and have issues aren’t as nice as she thought they were. There are a ton of rules at Saint Christopher’s, so Hina inevitably breaks one.
So based on a choice right at the beginning of the game, Hina gets to date one of her bipolar teachers. Er, maybe “date” is stretching it a bit. There’s not a whole lot of actual romance, and it’s mostly just Hina sitting through the teacher’s various mental issues until they finally sort out their lives (if they ever do) and then maybe something happens in the ending.
…I’m using the drama CD covers for preview pictures, since this game has a pitiful amount of CG’s, minus the endings.
Kashu Rem
The most moe thing ever, enough said. Saint Christopher’s chemistry teacher, who loves sweets and hates anything tedious. He’s… er, like a child really since he’s pretty happy go lucky and just does whatever the hell he wants if he thinks it’s interesting to him. Likewise, he’s always doing experiments to “collect data”. Though as for his “dark” side, he doesn’t seem above human experimentation. I believe the site describes him as a mad scientist type character. …Actually, this character is a huge reason I wanted the game. I’ve been growing fond of Kakki’s voice for a while now, so having him here (with DHM recording!) is great. Plus Rem’s speech patterns are just too adorable.
Hina finds a stuffed animal that turns out to be Rem’s「ぴょん吉ちゃん」(Pyonkichichan), and he accuses her of stealing it. Though Hina tells him the whole story, so as an apology, he gives her a sugar cube. …Yes, that’s the least cube-shaped sugar cube ever, but how could you question someone that damn moe? Since Hina is fond of sugar too, Rem calls them sweets loving buddies. (*´ω`*)
After school, Hina gets called to the chemistry club by Rem over the intercom. She’s confused, but can’t really ignore a call from a teacher, so she goes to the chemistry room. Rem just kind of decided that Hina should join the club, so he has her sign a form, and they have a welcoming party complete with sweets. Though when Hina eats one, she starts laughing uncontrollably due to some “harmless medicine” that Rem put in there. …Surprisingly though, this is the only time Hina gets drugged (outside the bad ending). Also, they’re the only two in the club. …And they never actually ever really do chemistry. Based on Rem’s personality though, it’s hardly surprising.
Activities range from Rem getting a bunch of food and seeing how fast she can eat (and her getting embarrassed over him later using the same chopsticks once she gives up eating) to going “treasure hunting” outside and finding snails. I think it was here where he started poking her for some reason and Hina ran and hid ww. Anyways, for both of these events, Hina is exasperated by Rem just deciding things and dragging her along. Hina is mentally exhausted after dealing with Rem so much, so when she sees him in the hallway, she literally runs away. Though, running in the halls is against school regulations, so you probably know where this is going. As Hina flees, Rem calls her “sacrifice-chan” ww.
In this round of guidance lessons, it’s Rem waiting for her there. 4 routes into this, you probably get the idea. Running in the hallway is against school regulations, so he suggests they cut off her legs and starts pulling out a bunch of surgical tools. Rem stops though and says that he was just joking. He wouldn’t do that to a student… Or at least, not on their first offence. Hina promises to never break regulations again, but Rem tells her that that’s not good either. He’s been waiting so long for experimentation material, it would be no fun of he couldn’t use her. Hina has to explain to him that she has absolutely no desire to be part of human experimentation and that she won’t be violating any more rules. …So Rem’s solution is that he’ll just follow her around everywhere to see if she breaks any. This solution sounds fun to him anyways, so he just lets Hina go.
Obviously, Hina tries her best to avoid Rem in the hallways, and she hides in a room she thought was unused. However, Rem finds her there, and it turns out that the room is actually his place. He lives in the school officially (and asks Hina if she’s shy because this is the first time she’s been to a guy’s house ww). When Hina asks about his family, he answers that his stuffed rabbit is his family, since he’s grew up in an orphanage. …Also, he tells Hina to call his rabbit “Pyonkichichan-san” since she’s being rude if she doesn’t use honorifics ww. Hina asks if Rem is lonely living in the school with no family, but he doesn’t seem to understand what feeling lonely is, and says he’s never experienced it.
So they have a trade off, where Rem won’t stalk Hina anymore, and she’ll help out in his experiments. Surprisingly, this actually involves chemistry, unlike 90% of the route. Rem explains to Hina that his whole goal is actually to make a medicine for a girl he grew up with. Hina wonders if it was Rem’s girlfriend, but it doesn’t really matter if she was or not because she’s dead now. Rem’s goal of experimentation is to bring the dead back to life and he admits to Hina that he might have been lonely ever since the unnamed girl died. He asks Hina if she believes that he can do it, and she doesn’t have the heart to tell him that it might be impossible, so she just decides to support him.
The club activities go on like normal after this, and Rem and Hina play… hide and go seek (or maybe it was tag; all I can remember is that there was an “oni” involved). Running in the halls is obviously forbidden, so Hina just has to walk really fast (plus Rem only gives her a 10 second countdown, but says that it’s fair because he’s basically a hikkikomori, so Hina should be more fit than he is wwww). After that’s done, he says that playing with Hina reminds him of how he used to play with that girl when she was alive. There’s also a scenario where Hina sees Rem collapsed outside, so she runs out, only to find that he’s sleeping. So he wakes up and then decides that Hina will be his lap pillow. Apparently they don’t have to worry about being seen since nobody ever looks where they are (minus Hina, I guess).
One night Hina gets a phone call from Rem. He sounds extremely depressed and thanks Hina for telling him his medicine was possible, even though he knows deep down that it isn’t. He’s given up on that now though, and he’s just so lonely, so he’s going to throw himself off the school roof to join his friend. Hina obviously runs out of the house to try and stop him. When she gets there, she finds him on the ground covered in blood. …But it’s all just a joke from him and the blood is just iron oxide or something. He wanted to collect data on her reaction and notes that she’s willing to break the rules (going to the school after hours) to help someone. Hina was genuinely concerned about Rem, so she gets really angry about him just using her to collect data. She’s also never really punished for breaking the rules here, which is good since if she was, it would be rage inducing.
Hina ignores Rem for a while, but of course, he pesters her until she talks again (…plus greeting teachers is part of school regulations). Kakeru tells Hina in the hallway that she’s definitely Rem’s favourite person to experiment on. …Though that just might actually be his way of trying to get to know her better.
Suddenly, Hina wakes up in the special duty room and she’s handcuffed to Rem in the flimsiest looking handcuffs ever. He’s back to calling her “sacrifice-chan” and has a knife, so she’s screwed, right? Actually, it’s just a fever induced dream, since Hina is sick. She doesn’t come back to school for about a week and when Hina finally runs into Rem, he seems angry and keeps the conversation short. So now she has that to worry about.
Hina just can’t leave him alone, so she goes to the chemistry room, only to see Rem drink one of his failed experiments. At first she’s worried, but then Rem suddenly grabs her arm and refuses to let go. He was trying to make a medicine that got rid of anger, but it’s failed and the side effect is that he feels really insecure without someone beside him. Though he makes Hina know that it’s not like he wanted to this. It just couldn’t be helped. …And then suddenly the effects just run out and Rem just leaves. Another time, he calls Hina after school since they have to fill out some club log. Again, he doesn’t really want to be there, but if they don’t do the forms properly, the school might take away from the club budget, and he won’t be able to use the money for experiments anymore.
Once again, Hina finds Pyonkichichan(-san) laying around the school. She goes to return it to Rem, and he’s surprised that she bothered, since he thought she was mad at him. I don’t remember quite where it’s explained, but the rabbit was left with him when he was at the orphanage, so it’s pretty important to him. Anyways, he just doesn’t understand Hina’s anger, so he runs off.
Hina wanders around town wondering if she should have run after Rem, since he seemed upset. After she decides that she will try to find him, she almost gets hit by a car since she wasn’t paying attention. Rem is conveniently there though, and he saves Hina in time (though his only explanation as to why he’s there is because “it was dangerous” ww). He’s frustrated because he doesn’t understand Hina, so he wants her to come with him someplace.
Collapse End:Hina follows Rem and eventually ends up handcuffed in some dark room where she has no idea where she is. Wow, they really fixate on the handcuffs here. Er, anyways, some vague form of “experimentation” that involved a lot of “iyaaaaaaa”-ing from Hina/ rustling clothing goes on. …And then in a couple of years they turn into a happy married couple. Rem says he wants to have a child soon, and tells Hina that she doesn’t have to worry about the kid stealing away his attention. This was just a liiiittle confusing at first, but then the plot goes on to explain that Rem has Hina constantly drink medicine that basically turned her into the perfect waifu. She’s planning to kill him someday if she ever gets the chance, but he’s fine with her hatred. He’s still her entire world, and that means he’s not alone.
…This pretty much is what I was expecting for bad endings when I read the premise of the game. I’m just surprised it took so long for a route to go here.
Doll End: He brings Hina out to some remote forest and starts strangling her. All he wants in life is to experiment, but he can’t stop thinking about her and its really irritating. So his solution is just to get rid of her. Hina recognizes that this is like a temper tantrum and Rem didn’t really have parents to scold him or anything, so she hugs him and wants to let him know that he’s not alone. Once that’s over with though, Rem doesn’t exactly feel better, so now he’s MORE confused. He wants someone to tell him why he feels this way, but Hina’s too dead (or maybe just unconscious, but then again, this is a bad end) to really answer him.
Lovers End: They end up on the school roof, Rem goes to the edge, and explains that he had absolutely no idea why Hina was mad at him. He, uh, thought so hard hard about the issue that his head hurt. Anyways, his solution is that Hina was angry because he didn’t actually die, thus why he plans on actually jumping off the roof this time so she won’t be angry anymore. Hina has to set him straight, and finally manages to explain that she was angry because she was worried about him, and it turned out to be a joke. Rem understands, and he hugs Hina. Hugging her makes him feel secure (apparently handcuffs give him this feeling too since it assures that two people are attached, but lets not go there). He’ll try hard in the future to avoid making her angry and asks that she be patient if he messes up. He’s also worried if she’ll be angry about something else, has her close her eyes, and Rem kisses her to seal the promise. (Hina isn’t angry about this at all.)
So from that day on, they hang out as usual. Hina is pretty happy, and so is Rem. Though something’s been bothering him lately… and it’s that Hina is still a student. After all, if she wasn’t one, he would push her down right there and now (Hina chokes out of surprise over this ww). The kiss before apparently doesn’t count as anything, since it was for the promise. He’s not quite sure what the funny feeling inside him is, but Hina is definitely special to him. Hina thinks that it’s better for him to figure his feelings out himself, so she says she’ll wait until the day he does. A couple years later, the two get married, Rem talks like a normal person, and he gives some important speech about research he’s doing. His inspiration being his loving wife, of course.(*´ω`*)
—————————–
Yeah, I don’t know about that “experimentation” in the bad end. I thought it was implied rape at first, but I guess he could have been cutting her or something. Not that the scenario there is any better. However, Rem is still probably my favourite in the game just due to the sheer adorableness of his character. Plus the bad end wasn’t quite “character -ruining” since Rem’s whole thing was that he was kind of a broken kid inside. It was almost kind of disappointing when he talked like a normal person in the good end, but I guess that’s just a good indication that he’s no longer so immature thanks to Hina. …The game’s fixation on handcuffs was kind of funny too. It just kind of felt thrown in there for the hell of it in the good end. Yes, it explains a lot about Rem’s obsessive actions in the bad ends, a whole explanation as to why Rem likes handcuffs wasn’t exactly topical in the conversation at the time. ww Or was it. Well, Rejet certainly didn’t make his route as dark as it could have been considering the theme of experimentation, but I like what they did with it regardless. …Though that dead girl mentioned early in the route was pretty much forgotten halfway through.
Yanagi Ryota
The civics teacher who acts nicely enough, but is super cynical and has surprisingly a short temper. He’s pretty good at hiding the cynical side though, and his nice guy act is good enough to earn him his own fan club among the students. The last game I played with Itou Kentarou in it (Kin’iro no Corda 3), his character’s route was extremely boring and uneventful, so I was looking forward to seeing how the voice would work with a darker character. …And yeah, it was absolutely perfect for the image gap here. Though for some reason, this route and Kairi’s route had one less CG than everyone else. Lol Rejet.
Hina has questions about class, so she goes to Ryota’s office to ask. He acts really nice (locks the door so “no one interrupts”) and tells her not to be scared to come back to ask more questions. She also sees him reading a book in the park on the weekend and greets him. He buys her ice cream, and again, acts nice.
After a morning assembly, theres a surprise clothing inspection. Hina worries about her hair (she did it differently with an accessory or something (I totally wasn’t paying attention, sorry) with it to hide bed hair) and skirt length, but Ryota lets her go, so she figures she’s okay. …So obviously it’s not okay, and she has to go to the special affairs room. She meets Ryota in the hallway and they talk like usual, only to be surprised when he follows her to the room. As soon as he gets in there, he starts acting ドS, and when Hina is visibly upset, he just explains that people see others selectively. He was nice to her a few times, so her mind decided that he was a perfect teacher. Of course, he ridicules that kind of thinking and maybe it’s here that he explains that he thinks that people are worthless (if not here, he definitely says it at some point) since they’re all selfish. This is the only time he takes out that whip too, but he never actually uses it or anything. Ryota’s fetish is also seeing crying faces (because of course it is), so he keeps telling Hina to cry… but she says that she’ll never do that. Hina is thoroughly disillusioned about Ryota by this point, and argues that she still believes in the inherent good in people. The lesson ends without anything else really huge happening, though Ryota seems to want to antagonize Hina from here onward. ww
Hina and Friend A meet Ryota in the hallway, and he tells them that their marks on the last quiz have improved since the last one. However, Hina acts the same as usual, which is really amusing to him. Ryota goes in to the staffroom humming and Kairi notes that he’s in a good mood. To that, Ryota just replies that he’s “found a good way to kill time.”
He makes Hina help him out all the time, and when she brings books to his office, he locks the door again and basically tells her to give up already. Hina still argues that people aren’t worthless, etc, and gets pretty upset with Ryota again, but she still doesn’t want to cry. Eventually, he has to go pack to his usual facade when other students come by to ask questions about his class.
In the hallway, Hina overhears two girls blatantly talking about how they’re cheating in Ryota’s class. She wonders what to do, but then Ryota himself pulls her aside and says to keep quiet or the girls will know that they’re there. He basically says that this proves his point about people, and tells Hina that if she really wants to prove something, then she could go talk to them about it. Hina does, but they don’t listen and tell her that she’s just being annoying. Ryota pretty much saw this result coming. Another time, Hina makes cookies in class and she runs into Ryota in the hallway. She helps him pick up all the things he dropped and he accuses her of bringing the cookies from outside of the school (which is against the rules), but she denies this. He has her feed him one (since his hands are full) and apparently this whole scenario was set up by him just because he wanted the cookies. ww Meanwhile, Hina just thinks that Ryota is a huge jerk.
After an art class with Kairi, she and him have a conversation about roses. Apparently Hina is really good at that class. At first she just sees Ryota watching her and Kairi talk from afar, but later he joins them. They have a normal enough conversation. Hina thinks she saw someone watching her from the hallway, but dismisses is. Soon enough, Friend A comes by to tell Hina that they’re going to be late for the next class, so she figures it was just her.
Eventually Hina goes back to the classroom and notices that her books have been vandalized. She’s upset; however, she notes that this definitely Ryota, since he has a way more direct approach to antagonizing her. Ryota notices that something is off with Hina over the next while, but she refuses to tell him what it is.
The bullying goes on for a while, and Ryota isn’t really letting up either, so Hina goes to cry alone in the rose garden (Saint Christopher has one of those because lol rich people). She’s been telling herself that she’d just deal with him until graduation, but now someone else seems to hate her for some reason. Ryota shows up then, and asks Hina again if there’s anything bothering her. She still doesn’t want to confide anything to him though, since I guess that would kind of be like losing. He’s not exactly being nice about trying to get her to confide in him either, really (he basically tells her for the 1000th time this route to give up her beliefs).
The meet on the way to school on day, and then another Hina participates in one of those scavenger hunt races, and her piece of paper says that she has to “borrow Yanagi sensei”, so she grabs him and runs. These interactions are pretty normal, though being around the guy still makes Hina feel uncomfortable.
Finally, once day she finds a note in her desk telling her to go to the roof after school and Hina decides that it would be a good idea to finally confront the people so they’ll leave her alone. Ryota shows up to ask her what her issues are, but she ends up angering him instead. So Ryota basically tells Hina that he’s concerned since she’s his “toy” and that he wants to be the only one who will break her or something. Hina runs off and accidentally drops the note she received on her way out of the classroom. Lol otoge heroines.
Hina goes to the roof and *gasp* there’s nobody there. She realizes too late what’s going on and ends up stuck on the roof since she’s been locked out. However, the guilty party decides to stick around to let Hina know who they are. It’s the two girls she lectured for cheating near the beginning of the route. They thought she was annoying for that, but it also turns out that they’re part of Ryota’s fan club and having him hang around Hina all the time annoys them even more. So Hina is left up there, worried about someone finding her in the morning and her being expelled.
Ryota eventually comes up to the roof to see if there was anyone there. He finds Hina, who runs up to him and hugs him since she was scared and whatnot. Ryota basically knew what was going to happen to Hina the minute he read the note (really now, who didn’t see something like this coming), but let the scene play out anyways to see what Hina would do. Realizing that Ryota was kind of right about how terrible people are, Hina starts to cry and she doesn’t even care anymore if he sees her or not. Ryota then explains that there are two types of people in the world, the strong and the weak. Only the weak that cling to a strong person can survive. Hina has the choice if she’ll find a strong person or not.
Collapse End: Hina sees where he’s coming from, but yet, she was still incredibly happy when Ryota came from her. She doesn’t care the reason why he did, it still made her less afraid. So she goes on to say that she’ll forgive the girls for locking her up there. …Which would normally be the right answer, but lol Rejet, that was the worst thing Hina could have done. Ryota gets pretty pissed that Hina is still giving selfless speeches, and starts… Stepping on her? It’s vague. Anyways, he says that he’s going to have to educate her for this.
Skip to a scene where he’s in the hallway of the school and helping a female student come up with study strategies. He’s back to his “nice guy” facade here. Kairi sees Ryota, and notes that seeing Ryota like this reminds him of Hina back in the day. She definitely graduated, but Kairi wonders what happened to her after. Ryota says he doesn’t know. …Which is totally a lie, since she’s actually chained in the special duty room. I guess they haven’t needed it since. Anyways, Ryota comes by to feed Hina, and talks about how the student he helped reminds him of her. Meanwhile, Hina totally hates his guts and plans on getting free and exposing him. …Someday.
Doll End: The two girls end up being expelled since it was their second offence (cheating would be the first one) and Hina starts doing really well in class. Some of the girl’s friends are suspicious of Hina, but she doesn’t care. It turns out that she made Ryota her “strong person” and has fully embraced his ideals. However, she’s also grown terrified of being thrown away by him. He makes her lick his shoes, and Hina basically worships the ground he walks on.
Lovers End: After the events of that night, Hina wants to know more about Ryota. She graduates as the school’s exemplary student, but as she talks to Ryota in his office afterwards, she’s obviously not quite the same as she was before (she’s also become a cynic, more or less). He’s quit being a teacher as of the day and when Hina asks if it was because she’s also leaving the school, he calls her conceited. …Though he doesn’t hate that from her. Hina thinks the world is stupid now too, so she wants to go with Ryota wherever he’s headed as his “accomplice”. He says that that’s basically asking him to kidnap her, but he’s never really given a damn about the rules anyways, so Hina can tag along. Outside the school gates, he tells Hina “that’s enough” and hugs her. She’s still calling him “sensei” at this point, but they’re not student and teacher anymore, so she should call him by his name. Also, she’s a “weak person”, so he’ll protect her from now on as a “strong person”.
Hina basically ditches her friends and family, and never talks to them again, but she’s moved in with Ryota for a couple of years now. Her neighbours call her “Yanagi-san” and think that her and Ryota have married, but apparently that hasn’t happened. Hina has been feeling ill for a while, and Ryota comes home from work. He’s uh, definitely nicer, but makes no attempts to hide his real personality. He tells Hina to tell him if she’s not feeling well, since he promised a long time ago that he would look after her. …He also says something about how he has his hands full enough already with “one troublesome woman”, so there’s no one else (I totally forget how they got on this topic). Finally, he hands her a marriage registration form and says that he’s going to keep his promise of protecting her.
—————————–
I’m like, 80% sure that Hina was pregnant in that ending, since they put so much emphasis on how ill she was feeling recently. Either that or she contracted some sort of disease, which has nothing to do with the route. Surprisingly, I liked Ryota’s character more than I thought I would. Though a lot of that has to do with the fact that his assholishness was pretty consistent. Plus despite having that whip in his character design, he never actually used it (thank god) ww. Everyone else was like a totally different person outside of the one or two guidance lessons, but Ryota clearly had “asshat” as his default personality, which made things waaay more straightforward in terms of interaction. Plus, I guess having him only be honest around Hina made the interactions seem more genuine in a way. Hina got the shit end of the deal, but he definitely treated her differently from everyone else. ww
Tojo Kairi
Kairi is the ~fabulous~ art teacher for the school and surprisingly, the final boss-ish character, which explains why they seem to have him last. He has kind of an obsession with perfection and beauty (though his fetish is hair). He seems to have a thing for roses too, which is probably just a part of his beauty obsession again, since he was talking about them a lot in Ryota’s route. The seiyuu for this is Hino Satoshi. So after Toma from Amnesia (and a lot of other surprisingly creepy roles in other otoge), he has the yandere/obsessive thing down ww.
One day after art class, Hina notices a particular picture of a blue rose in the art room. Kairi happens to be nearby, he tells her about a rumour around Saint Christopher that there exists a blue rose somewhere in the garden. Those who see it will have eternal beauty, but will give up their freedom in exchange. Hina is kind of curious about blue roses, so she looks around the (huge) rose garden, and happens to see blue petals. Following where they came from and going through an open gate, she finds an entire section of blue roses. Kairi happens to be there too, and it turns out that students never go to that part because the gate in front is always closed (…don’t ask why it was open this time, they never bother explaining that). However, Hina hasn’t broken any rules by coming here, and Kairi decides to give her an extra key to the gate to come whenever she wants. The blue rose garden is kind of his private relaxation area, but he doesn’t mind sharing it with Hina. She has to keep it a secret though. …If I mention a garden from now on, just assume I’m talking about the blue rose section.
Hina almost falls down the stairs one day, but Kairi is there to catch her. One of Rem’s experiments failed, so he’s by the spill to make sure that people don’t do what Hina just did. He has Hina grab Ryota, and they manage to get the situation under control. Hina’s been kind of flustered since Kairi gets really close sometimes, but he tells her that there’s not really a deeper meaning to close interactions like that.
In the garden, Kairi notes just how easy Hina’s emotions are to read. He seems to be having issues, since he seems a bit distracted, but when Hina asks, he just tells her that she doesn’t have to worry about it since she’s a student. …And then the conversation turns to how amazing Kairi thinks Hina’s hair is. Another day, there’s a rose bud that’s looking kind of sad/hasn’t bloomed yet, and Kairi goes to cut it off from the rest of the plant. Hina stops him though, and says that while Kairi probably knows way more about plants than she does, it would still be sad to cut it off. He leaves the bud to Hina to take care of, and then notices Hina’s key holder. She tells him that she bought it the other day and Kairi seems kind of distracted. It turns out that not only did she break the rule of not stopping anywhere after school, but also for decorating her bag. So she gets a letter for special guidance classes.
As per usual, Hina had no idea that she broke the rules until she goes to the classes and also as usual, the teacher in charge (Kairi this time, obviously) doesn’t want to hear her excuses. Kairi tells Hina to take out her student handbook so they can go over the rules, but she doesn’t have it on her, just making the situation worse. He also pulls out his scissors. There’s not really a reason for it, he just does. Anyways, after Hina does her apology, her concern is if Kairi will forgive her or not. He actually finds this question rather amusing because not only is he a teacher, but apparently he’s secretly also the head director of the school.
Hina gets called the the staff room shortly after that day, and it turns out that the director of the school (none of the other teachers know who he is and Kairi also pretends that he doesn’t know) has chosen Hina as the representative for Saint Christopher in an upcoming occasion involving some other rich kid school. (I totally forget the exact wording they called this meeting, but it’s basically a social tea party event hosted by Saint Christopher since they’re a school full of affluent students and whatnot.) She can’t really refuse the position, so from now on, Hina has after school lessons with Kairi on table manners and other basic etiquette. Hine does okay with pretty much everything, but he’s shocked to find out that Hina has never taken a dance lesson in her life. She’s not very good at it either, when Kairi tries to teach her. He also warns her that if she embarrasses him at the party, then there will be consequences and Hina is scared enough from the guidance lesson to take the whole thing seriously.
Hina goes back to the garden to take a look at the bud (she’s been avoiding it for obvious reasons), and she meets Kairi there. …Which turns into a lesson on how to smile properly for Hina. The next while, there are still more dance lessons. Hina has learned everything else, but she still fails at dancing. Kairi will praise her if she has a good run with it, but for the most part, he just says that her dancing isn’t beautiful at all and says time and again what a pain it is to have to teach her basics. However, he has to teach her these things, since it’s his duty. Hina ends up improving eventually.
On the actual day, Hina dances with no problems at all, and is a proper hostess to the guests. There’s an incident with a student from the other school breaking a cup. Kairi starts to go to solve the problem, but Hina stops him, since she has it covered. She goes up and asks the student if she was hurt, and Hina tells her that her guest is far more important than the cup. During all of this, Kairi watches and he’s reaaaally impressed with how Hina handled the situation.
After this, Hina asks about why the special classes are even needed in the school. As a reward for Hina’s efforts, Kairi decides to fill her in. The school has always been run by the Tojo family line, so Kairi knew he was going to inherit it someday. He decided that when he did, he would do everything in his power to make it into his absolute ideal utopia. All of the rules are to make the students conform to his views on perfection (so of course there would be extremely harsh penalties for anyone going against them). …He’s also made a decision about Hina. He sees the potential for perfection in her, so even though the social event is done, he’s going to keep giving Hina lessons. Hina just… kind of goes along with this. So he gives her a haircut in the garden to even out her ends, makes sure that she walks perfectly, etc.
Hina still can’t figure out why Kairi is so obsessed with her, since she knows that she’s extremely normal in terms of just about everything. So she goes to talk to Kairi about her lack of confidence in meeting his expectations. However, he just tells her that he chose her out of all of the students to perfect, so she should be more than able to do what he asks. He also talks to Hina about the next step and how she should aim for full marks in every class. …After Hina leaves, he adds on that he’s put so much time and effort into her up to this point, so there’s no way he would part from her now.
After this, it’s basically more lessons. Really, both scenarios here were just about the same thing. Hina would falter a bit at whatever her lesson was and Kairi would get a bit angry, but then tell her that she can do it since she was chosen by him. He has her memorize the entire school’s history and the same goes with the school rules. …He even says that he expects that all students should do this, so they never break any unintentionally. As kind of a side note, I think it was Ryota’s route that said it’s extremely rare for students to need the special guidance classes in the first place and that everyone else is well behaved, so I guess they more or less do have them down. ww Plus this explains why Hina was treated harshly in the guidance classes in all of the other routes before this.
Anyways, time passes and there’s supposed to be some big storm coming up, so Hina goes to shelter the rose bud that she’s been taking care of. She meets Kairi there and he mentions that while Hina has mastered everything, but he still feels like there’s something missing in her. What that is becomes clear the next day, when Hina goes to check on the rose bud, only to find out that it finally bloomed thanks to her care. Kairi is there too at the time and he sees Hina’s smile. She’s been so conscious of smiling exactly the way he told her to, so this is her first genuine smile that she’s shown in a long time to him. …So his reaction is to get extremely upset over the rose bringing out something in her that he could not. Then it’s Hina’s turn to get angry and she tells him that she’s a human being and not a doll.
Collapse End:This ending didn’t have a CG for some reason. Anyways, Kairi refuses to give up on Hina, since he’s put so much work into perfecting her. So instead, he’ll just make her part of his personal collection. She gets locked in the special duty room, but unlike the last time or so it happened, there actually a reason as to why no one uses the room anymore. Kairi has gotten rid of that system now, apparently. Time passes. One day he goes down there to give Hina food, and he goes on and on about how perfect she is. He cuts her hair (holy crap. Yep. His fetish is definitely hair) since it’s getting long and after he’s done, asks Hina to give him a smile like she did in the garden that one time. However, she hasn’t exactly been responding this entire time. Kairi suddenly realizes that this isn’t what he wanted. He was trying to have Hina be a living part of his collection, but she’s just kind of turned into a perfect doll. He can’t even remember when she stopped talking to him, and all she offers is “……..” to anything he does. Hina doesn’t have a sprite at all in this, nor is there a CG for some reason, but I don’t think she’s dead, since Kairi talks about her facial expressions changing. Unless he’s just lost it at this point.
Doll End: Kairi left the garden that day and Hina hasn’t seen him there for a long time. Upon graduation, she goes there one last time. Sulking about how it was coincidence that they even met in the first place, Hina is super surprised when she sees Kairi there. She runs up, hugs him (which he is clearly unhappy about ww), and then gets upset that she’s not going to see him ever again. However, he suggest that she could come back as a teacher for the school. Apparently this career path never occurred to Hina before and she’s actually rather happy to take it.
Time skip to Hina being a teacher at Saint Christopher and her throwing herself at Kairi. She just finished lecturing a student and she wants Kairi to give her a reward. He’s definitely treating her like a tool to forward his own goals, but Hina doesn’t mind because (surprise, surprise) she’s obsessed with him. Their plans are that they’ll build a perfect utopia school together.
Lovers End: Kairi thanks Hina for showing him a new kind of beauty and leaves. Hina comes to school the next day to find out that he has cut his hair, ditched the eyepatch (which apparently he didn’t need anyways) and looks far more like a normal person. He’s come to a huge realization about life thanks to seeing Hina’s true smile, and tells her to meet him at the usual spot after school. There, Kairi asks if he can draw her. He’s decided to change himself, and drawing Hina is his way of finalizing his decision (and kind of his way of giving an apology).
A couple years down the road, Kairi still works at the school and has his students draw one another. While it might be embarrassing, he really believes that properly observing the other person may uncover things about them that the person drawing wasn’t aware of. After class, a student approaches Kairi about a drawing displayed. It’s of a beautiful woman in a rose garden. Five guesses as to who it is. Actually, it turns out that Hina and Kairi are married at this point. Kairi is still a little embarrassed over being welcomed home though since they’re newlyweds (despite them having lived together for years). The conversation ends off on Kairi looking forward to seeing Hina’s expressions in bed that night.
—————————–
It’s weird that the Collapse End never had a CG. Not that I want to see Kairi drooling over Hina’s hair while she stares vacantly off into the distance or whatever, but consistency. Actually, that was probably the creepiest ending in the game thanks to Kairi’s obsessiveness (thanks for yet another scary as hell character, Hino Satoshi ww). The CGs for the other ends were okay though. Hina actually showed up in all but one (two if you count the other expression that CG has), which is a bit surprising. The Doll end was kind of funny. I’m a terrible person.
Yeah, this half of the game was just a bit darker than the other one (or at least in terms of bad ends) for some reason. Still enjoyable though, I guess. There wasn’t a whole lot of romance in the game, due to the student teacher gap. Er, I guess there were moments where a line may or may not have been crossed, but the characters kept their professionalism pretty well. …Minus the guidance classes, where everything went out the window (but still next to no romance, minus endings because everyone was busy abusing the heroine). Plus everyone waited for graduation ww. Though I guess I haven’t played a lot of games with student/teacher relationships, so maybe that’s the norm. Like I said before in the other post too, Rejet had a sad selection of CGs, but that’s nothing new for their shorter games. Maybe it applies to their longer games too, but I’m still not finished Black Wolves Saga, so who knows.
Right. Characters. Uh, Kairi should probably left for last. I would have never guessed that he was that important, considering his minuscule roles in the other routes. I’m totally biased towards Rem, so obviously I enjoyed that route the most. ww Plus they made the dark and light sides make sense overall due to his childish personality, so that was a plus. Really, the order they have on the site/ the OP video is fine to follow. Though I’m sure you could have done it in another order and it would have worked the same.
To be honest, the whole guidance classes thing in each route always felt a bit weird. They were one of the points of the game that was emphasized a lot on the site, but they felt so out of place considering what when on in the rest of the plot. I’ve said this a bunch of times, but the classes brought out the worst in the route character, and then they magically were never that mean ever again. …Minus Ryota I guess, but his route felt like one of the most consistent characterization-wise. It was also weird that Hina was the only one who ever got called to them. There were a shit ton of rules in that school. Did everyone else honestly never break them? I guess Hina generally broke 2 at a time, but still.
I really hope Alice=Alice isn’t this short, but they were the exact same price, so I’m not getting my hopes up.
University student and the one at Metanorn who's known for wearing glasses. Likes blood, insanity and plot twists, but also plays otome games and adores cute romance anime. It balances out... somehow.

Is it just me or Mr. Satoshi Hino has yandere/sadist thing down pat? He voiced Noiz in DRAMAtical Murder and his route is pretttyyyy dark but has a good end too. I guess, I can’t help but get impressed by his variation.
…He does. Hino is a yandere (brother-figure) in Amnesia, a yandere (brother-figure) in Gekka Ryouran, a yandere (brother-figure) in Kuro to Kin, and that’s just off the top of my head. It seems like his niche role in otoge these days xD
Oh wow… Good thing is, his anime character is really sky-rocketing these days with main role in Rail Wars!, DMMD, and supporting ones in Haikyuu! and Momo Kyun Sword. Makes me really want to play these games but then they are not translated… ><
I guess this his second period of popularity? I remember he seemed like he was everywhere when Shana and Zero no Tsukaima were just coming out. Maybe one day an otome game other than Hakuouki will be localized the games will be translated… Oh, I think I remember him being in Sweet Fuse, and that one’s in English.
Thanks for this review! I was considering picking up Bad Medicine as well since I enjoyed Alice=Alice, and it’s short too. In the end, though the art is nice and voice casts are tempting, it seems the story doesn’t really appeal to me p(´⌒`。q)
And regarding A=A’s length, I’m not sure how short Bad Medicine is but A=A was pretty short compared to most otoge out there! Though I actually find the shortness helpful since it means problems get solved faster so there are less frustration when playing. I enjoyed A=A so if you’re playing it as well, I hope you’ll enjoy it too!
I’m actually finished with Alice=Alice as of right now and it was definitely more fun for me than Bad Medicine… Though I’m a sucker for Alice in Wonderland games. I know what you mean about the shortness. I don’t know how long I could have handled King if they didn’t have the character development when they did. xD

Someday. Probably during this year. I will try this game. Or another one. But I WILL PLAY an otoge in Japanese. I, very manly, swear! *^*
