Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-01

Akari and the LOLi Defender sez: leave sleeping LOLi’s alone. No joke

Welcome back to the Relic Hunt! Team White is back on the road for more remains and Team Gillette is obviously not doing    what they are told.

On the Road Again

Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-02

…by next episode I think this thing should fly…

After a great Chaika Red arc, the gang is back in the Relic Hunting business. As we saw last time, that depends on the sudden arrival of the mysterious Guy. He’s just as laconic as ever, but this time he comes with a bit of a warning label. Be wary Team White. Which just plays right into our suspicions about Chaika Trabant being lead about by forces they don’t comprehend. Luckily Toru has our suspicions as well.

With a ton of stuff the show is doing well, the pacing, and the dolling out of information and exposition deserves special attention. I think it’s good that the characters are able to reach this suspicion gradually, as both the saboteurs have to work out their own goals along with Chaika thinking outside her “get remains. burial” box. Well that last point needs some work. She is still quite insistent on it, even though downplaying it to buy more time against Team Gillette would have helped out great. As it was, the official declaration of war was dropped and there is no turning back from that I think. Gillette has the scent and he isn’t going to let go.

Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-03

Fredrica thinks the van needs a hood ornament….uh…roof ornament…

I love this character, they’ve used her so well in so many situations. An Akari stand in, back up muscle, character foil, transportation…the list goes on! She is truly a versatile LOLi. This episode is probably the real deal for her, as it looks like she’s a full fledged member of the team, and not just a cypher following them around. I guess as long as Toru needs to be kept alive for her to kill, she’ll be there to kick all the right butt. She was very much needed during this fight as Team White was majorly outclassed without Dragoon back-up; and this was without either of their wizards getting involved.

Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-05

Fredrica is ready to support you, Toru!

The Valley of Unresolved Romance?

Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-04

Chaika: This. Youtube channel. I subscribe..

But now we get to the meat of the program. With the information delivered by Guy, Team White picks up supplies (then loses them in a fight with Team Gillette) and promptly takes the Fredrica Dragoon Air Express to the Valley of No Return. It looks like wizard Simon Scania has a big hard luck story and his Quasi Lotus Eater Machine is the result of that. Dude, I can understand you lost everything you valued from the war, but just random death by pleasure to anyone that wanders in? Bit of a stretch, but it does give us a look into Toru’s psyche. I don’t know about you, but I think he has more than  just feelings of gratitude and protection for Chaika. I love how most of that scene was more that just romance. It felt to me that Toru desires a rather ordinary life, and might be expecting it should they finish the quest. Chaika is not objecting to this. Akari is, of course, and Frederica is happy to“support”. She was just as cheeky about how Toru feels about Chaika this episode as she was the last. Is he willing to sacrifice himself to see her quest finished? To make her happy?

Hitsugi no Chaika - 07-07

ah, some tsun for all that dere, good work Toru!

If the fetching part of the quest went a bit by the books, that’s ok, as a ton of great character development was delivered. I don’t think for a second that Team Gillette is going to put down any peasent revolts any time soon. Policing just isn’t what they do. The Head of the Post War Agency is still treating the Gaz remains as a big deal, so much they are starting to see conspiracy in how the Hero’s of the war are getting snuffed or falling on hard times. So long as the danger of the collected remains..uh…remains a danger, they will be on the job. What did you folks think?

The caravan uses Overtechnology! It space folds! /me waits for huge giants to appear in mecha.

  2. Wanderer says:

I just found it hilarious at the end of the episode how Toru managed to insult every single girl he was traveling with in a single sentence. Epic relationship fail.

This show is really playing well for me. That they recovered another body part with yet another different tactic just shows the versatility of the show. For those people who like fights, they threw one in, although it felt like kind of a dumb fight to me. I do like how everything goes to plan in the show, although that might get a little tiresome (not as tiresome as nothing ever going to plan, tho).

    • skylion says:

That fight was rather on the low side of interest; I think it was just there to get Fredrica in the mix, and to show that Team Gillette is still on the hunt for Chaikas.

Everything goes to plan? I can hear George Peppard/Liam Neeson right now…

What a fun episode, well I mean it was okay, best moments for me was…

1 “surprised dragoon!”(why don’t they just use the dragon to get around..)

2 “Fredrica decking Toru” (I couldn’t stop laughing, she was way too excited about doing it)

3″ “Tsundere Chaika” (OH you chaika)

    lastly
    4.

“Chaika: This. Youtube channel. I subscribe..”

    (nice)

It took me a few goes to get that one right.
I could also add, “Thumbs down. Lots of Akari’s here.”

Why don’t they use the Fredrica Express more often? They haven’t leveled up enough.

    • Highway says:

Why don’t they use Frederica to fly around more? I thought she made it abundantly clear: She doesn’t want to.

So Toru does have feelings for hasn’t fully realized it yet. Lucky for him he’s not living in our time since the show’s synopsis has him at 20 years old while Chaika is 14. If he was, it wouldn’t look good for him. He preaches about the pleasures and what’s needed to be a saboteur so often that it’s a whiplash seeing him act so civil, even if it was an illusion.

What Gillette is doing is far more important than suppressing some unruly farmers as the prior episode suggested but the government officials are too pompous to pay attention. People, the fate of the world may be at state and an innocent girl may be an unknowing pawn. It’s better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.

Toru is right to be suspicious. A mysterious person comes up to you giving information on exactly what you’re looking for and isn’t asking for anything in return… An atmosphere that convenient is too good to be true and his constant smiling makes him even more untrustworthy.

@skylion: In case you’re not aware yet, apparently you’re going to be booked before getting a full chance to blog anything new when this season comes to a close. Like Selector Infected WIXOSS, Hitsugi no Chaika is also a split cour series and the second half has already been set for Fall this year. Good luck.

    • skylion says:

      you’re going to be booked

I was aware of this when they announced this show’s second cour; was thinking the same thing you expressed here. Wonder if they will announce a Black Bullet second for fall…nah.

As for the age difference. I don’t see it as a general problem even in these times. I can be a specific problem or set of problems. Coercion is always an ugly situation…wait, oh they did that back in those times too…

    • Highway says:

What is Gillette doing that’s so important? Hassling Chaika? Is that really that much more important than civil order? If you believe Chaika, then he’s basically wasting his and his whole team’s time by constantly trying to get the remains from her. And what does HE want to use the remains for? He’s getting his orders from someone else, and who’s to say they’re not more interested in a return to the old world order?

And if Black Bullet stays annoying and uninteresting, there’s nothing that says he’d have to cover it. 🙂

      • skylion says:

Ah, to be honest, with Guy leading and them following and not being able to see the brains behind it all, I think Gillette is doing the right thing.

As for Black Bullet. I rather liked picking it apart this past arc. It’s just a touch less interesting to see how they did it wrong as how they did right.

        • d-LaN says:

If only Black Bullet gets 2 cour and stop rushing things…..
