Feeling down Chaika? How about a crispy snack?

I think Chaika Trabant (that’s Trabant. I said that twice so it must be important!) is having some issues with her employer/employee relations. As a freelancer in Human Resources/Employee Relations, I think her empathy is understandable, if not a little misplaced. The larger issue is how she feels as a person. She feels that all she can do is magic, and we’ve seen, with hilarious results, how much she tries to make more of out that. She want’s to stretch her experiences out, be more in the world.  Toru is understanding in his own way, and I think he is getting just as much out of this relationship as Chaika is. He’s had a long standing need to be needed, and to find a sense of purpose.

In building off from last episode we get a bit more into the dynamics of Gillette’s group. While it would be obvious to go into the romantic notions Vivi has for her employer, that’s early days. With reports that Chaika has been seen close to their current location, but that her companions are different, they once again question the validity of their job. If someone is up to shenanigans, and is using Gillette’s group as a catspaw, why risk it by assigning investigators? I like how they are building slowly on this plot point. I smell them out as potential allies, and if so, a nicer touch is making it build and develop. Better than a sudden turn.

A Tale of Two Chaika’s

Wouldn’t you like to be a Chaika, too?

…well except for right now…

It wasn’t the most cozy of introductions for her, but Chaika Bohdan came in as, more or less, a surprise. They’ve been hinting at multiple Chaika’s since the first episode, so it’s very timely that this rumor pays off. And she comes with an awsome sword! It’s the best of close quarter, and some sneaky range. It even has entanglement, but as we see, you better have a back up weapon, or at least be faster than your opponent. But Chaika Red brings more than just Little Miss Badass to the table. She brings questions…few of which she will answer without roasted chicken as payment.

It’s like a mirror, isn’t it? Both Chaika’s have (the same father?) a lack of memories, an awareness of the same sense of purpose, same diction, dat wizardry, and a pronounced knack for gathering a couple of bad ass retainers. But this is where those similarities end. It wasn’t an easy place to get to, but Toru did manage to find out the why of Red. Vengeance. Not just against the hero’s that took out her father, but all that stood by and let it happen. In an interesting turn, Toru find this reason more understandable. It’s part of his worldview.  I know that HWY expressed , in the First Impression that he felt that Chaika White had no guile in her mission. That she just want’s to put her father to rest. I can see that but I’m not shaking the feeling that both White and Red and even future considerations are being played like chess pieces. Even Gillette’s group is in on the board.

Chaika? Yes, Chaika. Chaika.

This was a fine set of similarities and differences. I feel this show is going in a great direction. The world is getting more depth, and without unneeded odd-ball fantasy over-exposition. I love the way they handled Chaika Bohdan’s foray into this world, it raises so many questions about this relic quest. And even thou one could be a copypasta of the other, or both are of another one, it’s the differences that count. The goal could even be the same, it’s how you get there that counts. Is Chaika Trabant’s motivation pure, and if it is, is anyone else gaining from it? Same question applies to her other. What do you folks thing?

I don’t know who’s doing what, but the identical decapitation scars make me worry that someone is going around kidnapping girls, cutting off their heads, and attaching cloned Chaika-heads to their bodies.

I think “our” Chaika doesn’t intend anything bad, but that doesn’t mean that what she intends is what’s actually going to happen. With multiple Chaikas running about, all of them thinking they’re the emperor’s daughter, all of them trying to collect his remains for whatever reason, someone has to be pulling the strings. Someone must have set this in motion, and I doubt any one Chaika’s intentions are going to hold much sway when all the pieces come together.

    • skylion says:

That scar kinda lines up with the sigil she “plugs” into when using gandr (gundo?). If Red has the sigil in the same spot, that may have something to do with it. What that is, me don’t know.

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

Indeed you have been a bad skylion.

I believe that there are 5 Chaikas running around and when they get together, they will transform into Voltron!

That said, I believe that there is a Chaika Fett running around that is an unaltered clone of the real Jango Trabant. It is all going according to keikaku… (T/L: Keikaku mea… -bop!bop!bop!-)

    • skylion says:

I’ll wait for Blue, Yellow, and Green to show up before I declare which one shall be the head.

  3. sonicsenryaku says:

So is chaika like around the age of 16-18? we are to assume she’s just a loli right? kinda in the same way Index is actually 15 even though she looks like she’s 11.

    • skylion says:

I believe she is 14, same age as Index. I would assume Red is the same age. It is debatable if she looks 11. I just think she looks like a petite person.

      • sonicsenryaku says:

oh ok that makes sense…I was confused as to whether chaika just had a petite body or she was just a really young girl. Oh and i think Index just look like a petite person as well, it just that to the other characters in the series, she’s suppose to throw them off as being this super young person because of her small stature even though in the first light novel she’s described as a beautiful young woman who is about a year younger than Toma.

    • d-LaN says:

Chaika and her likes is what we call “legal loli”.

  4. zztop says:

    Wonder what other Chaikas exist.
Green Chaika, blue Chaika, morbidy obese Chaika, skinny Chaika, megane Chaika, tsundere Chaika, yandere Chaika, onee-san Chaika, obaa-san Chaika, fujoshi Chaika…

Feel free to add to the list. ><

    • skylion says:

Nekomimi Chaika, Futanari Chaika, Shimapan Chaika, Beat a Trope to Death Chaika.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

        Oi. FutaChaika is perfectly legit.

Also: IronChaika, BatChaika (because I’m BATCHAIKA!!!!), TrapChaika, CaptainChaika, ChaikOR… you get the trend. Also, did anyone mention lolimoutoChaika?

  5. Di Gi Kazune says:

By your Chaikas combined! I am Emperor Gaz!

  6. BlackBriar says:

Yuck! The descriptions on that wanted poster are way off. Either the sketch artist is bad or the one providing the details sucks.

Chaika is cute and earnest but for her sake, she needs to sharpen her people skills for the foreseeable future. Naïveté by being too trustworthy is a huge detriment, especially when travelling alone. So she’s lucky Toru tagged along. Sheer uncertainty is surrounding her objective. She’s to recover her father’s remains yet hasn’t questioned why she has to do it. The person is already dead. I’m calling it: a resurrection spell has to be involved.

Maybe they’re all Chaika but at different ages. Like Date A Live’s Kurumi Tokisaki manifesting herself through various timelines.
