Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou – 07

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-Sayaka brings the pain

Don’t mess with Sayaka! (also notice the nose thumb rub…)

spring14-highwAs we move into the second half of this series, I think a lot of the questions are going to turn to more of a “will they or won’t they?” Well, even more than they have been.

An Unwanted Addition

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-Usa the creeper

He might think like a stalker, but at least he doesn’t act on it

There’s a pervert hanging around the town… and it’s not Shiro, although Shiro doesn’t get off the hook for his behavior either. This guy’s a molester and flasher, and even with all the bravery all the girls show in how to deal with him, there’s still worry about it. And Ritsu thinks she hasn’t run into a molester before, but after hearing Sayaka and Mayumi’s stories from the bookstore, she realizes that she has encountered that, and just didn’t realize it. So good thing for Usa that he’s available to walk with Ritsu and protect her while she isn’t paying attention to the rest of the world. And Usa gets to play boyfriend, waiting for her after school at the gate to walk with her. Well, at least Usa doesn’t act like a stalker, even if he thinks like a stalker when Ricchan is involved.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-A startling realization

Ritsu realizes what happened

Of course, Ritsu has to run into the real flasher after they think they’ve caught him, and is saved by everyone else’s quick response. I can understand Usa’s inability to criticize the guy’s size too much, that’s a tactic that really only ladies can pull off, because if a guy tries it, he’s gotta have a definite advantage or he’ll just think about it too much. Mayumi wasn’t much help except for giving Usa a hard time, but Sayaka took down the flasher and Shiro immobilized him. Usa even got thanked by Ritsu for his concern about her… and a little retribution for giving her a hard time.

What to Do When You’re Bored

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-A blessing and a curse

Some people just have a talent

Summertime and not much to do, so Usa’s considering a part-time job, but doesn’t want to give up his time creeping around and watching Ritsu. But he’s spotted by Sumiko’s friend who needs a manager for her Japanese restaurant, and he has the unique qualifications for it: being able to handle a bunch of ‘unique’ people, also known as troublesome weirdos. I think we can give Usa a pass on not wanting to have to deal with another group of troublesome weirdos, so his refusal is fine, but noone else is giving up. He even has the embarrassing nickname of ‘henshori-kun’ brought up, and has to explain that he was a magnet for the chuunibyou people in middle school, and found out that he was known as the ‘weirdo handler’ by all the girls.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-She loves the uniform

Dirty tricks are afoot

But Sumiko’s not giving up that easily, and brings her friend over for a uniform fitting at Kawaisou… on purpose. It’s pretty dirty pool to make Usa wear a traditional apprentice uniform when Ritsu’s around, because she loses about as much as she’s ever going to lose when she sees him. With all her cuteness, he’s got no chance but to accept the job. Who knows if it’ll translate into anything more with Ritsu, tho.

Another fun episode, and a pretty good look for Usa, even if it comes around as a result of his history of hanging around the weirdos. And he is getting some consideration from Ritsu, who still is thinking about him enough to bring him some books to read when he asks. He might not have much time to read them now, tho, if he’s going to be working. I don’t know if this show will end up with them together, but it’s still fun to watch and really pretty to look at, especially the sunrise and sunset scenes with all the purple and orange coloring.

Oh, if Usa was just the protag that wanted the quite life, we wouldn’t have such a fine show.

I have something of a handle on this as I have filled the service of geek to norm translator a time or two. But for me, I’d rather laugh with the geeks than sneer with the norms.

You gotta love the apperance of that uniform; what is it with girls and those thing?

    • Highway says:

If he wanted a quiet life, he shouldn’t have been even thinking of getting a girlfriend. 🙂

I don’t know if Usa’s really the interface for those people, more just that they’re comfortable with his presence, and he’s comfortable enough with theirs that he doesn’t avoid them. It sounds like an association he’s not that fond of, tho.

You have no idea. Why do you think people in armed forced attract so many females? Heck, just imagining Hubby in a hakama or a suit gets me in an awesome mood. xD

That’s quite surprising… I don’t think there’s anything that screams “SEXYYY” on military clothes.

        • Kyokai says:

It’s not the ‘sexy’ rather it’s the appropriateness of fit guys in a uniform. Let me clarify, I don’t mean the camouflage here rather actual uniform that navy and army wears during parade and official duty. Ever hear of the Sailor uniform trope?

Ooo… the blackhole under the skirt censorship. Now if it were materializing shiritori…

This episode was much better than the meh 6th. I like how things are going between Usa and Ritsu but damn girl, I only wish for her to be a bit more self-aware on all counts.

    • Highway says:

I think the 6th episode was better than this one, especially as far as story dynamics go. This one was more like a couple side vignettes presented just for fun. And even the possibly life-changing job that Usa’s getting didn’t feel like much impact this episode, since it was presented a lot more like a kinda-cosplay thing.

  4. JPNIgor says:

Only I thought that they forced a little when Usa was “handling” the weirdos of Kawaisou on the restaurant? I don’t remember any time when Usa was so active on straightening people. It just felt that they made it for plot convenience.

    • Highway says:

I dunno, there are a couple possible explanations. One, since Sumiko was not present, he could have felt he had to step up. Two, he’s become more comfortable with the rest of the residents, and now feels like he can exert that kind of influence without being ignored or ridiculed.

He’s always had the thoughts, it may just be that he has recently gotten the confidence to vocalize them.

      • JPNIgor says:

If so, I wish he would have vocalized these thoughts before this episode.

And it’s not like he isn’t being ignored… Poor Usa-kun.
