Welcome to another fun episode of the loli invasion anime and last week Asuta finally joined Zvezda or was he was forced to join them? Either way I hope this is the start of some hilarious adventures with the Zvezda team.

While trying to take over the world most of us would think that Zvezda would make a run for the government or possibly recruit more members to join their cause, but this episode took a different turn as it was focused on smokers and how second hand smoke is slowly killing everyone around them; however instead of being OH MY GOD super serious about the dangers of smoking the Zvezda crew simply used it as a stepping stone to rally the locals people to fight the power through violence! Wait a second a little girl is telling us that it is totally cool to throw rocks and punch people in the face if they are causing trouble for people around them? I know that seems to be an extreme idea, but the outcome was more of a comical one to me anyway. So what really brought on the crazy hatred of smoking in Kate? We don’t really know! I figured she lost her parents in some kind of house fire caused by cigarettes but really it was all started thanks to Yasube lighting up a smoke in the kitchen which set off a fire alarm and I guess that ultimately got the ball rolling on her quest to concur the world of smoking and by the end of the episode she actually influenced a ban on smoking? Whoa I guess she accomplished another goal. So at the end does anyone know why the two members of White Light called those random people soulless monsters? I have no idea but for some reason that made me laugh; however I can’t really tell if that was another joke thrown in randomly or if the producers of Zvezda are trying to give us a life lesson that smoking is bad and it will turn you into a soulless monster or was that just a hint of a much larger story to come later? I guess that is debatable and while we ponder question I have to say it was really nice to see the badass flashbacks showing us how Gorou and Ysube know each other, but to be honest I was more curious to see where Gorou came from and what he did before joining Zvezda. Before I wrap this up did anyone else laugh every time Yasube tried to light up a smoke he was soaked after a bucket of water magically appear above him? Wow I swear I couldn’t stop laughing! That said I hope I am not alone when I say that I just want Yasube to become a team player because so far he has been the main cause of problems for Zvezda.

I thought the show was fun, but thought the misleading statistics about secondhand smoke were unnecessary. There’s no way, no how that any part of second smoke is more dangerous for diseases anyone actually gets than actually smoking tobacco. Can it exacerbate other conditions? Sure. But worse than for the smoker? No.
Favorite part of the episode was definitely when Yasu kept trying to light a cigarette, and the water would pour on him… and then *clang!* with the bucket. Every time, I was waiting for that, and it did not disappoint.

Don’t get me too wrong, I’m not defending smoking at all (although I’m sure you don’t need me to hector you about quitting either), but there’s plenty of arguments against smoking, both in public and in private, without making other crap up or overplaying made up statistics.

Please, hector me. I’ll be listening sooner rather than later. I’m actually in favour of of banning it public places. For very practical reasons. Since I stopped smoking in my own home, I’ve found that I don’t have to dust or clean as much as I used to. Since the pub I work in banned smoking indoors, same thing. The care I take to not smell like an ashtray has become very noticeable.

You’re actually getting about the same age the singer in my band was when he quit about 5 years ago. He was in better health for a while, before he packed on about 60 pounds. But he can definitely sing better now, and for a longer period of time.
It may be mean to point out, also, but even if you’re taking care about the odor, it’s still there. Really, the benefits are multi-fold, although it’s really difficult to quit. And even if you can’t quit, a transition to e-cigs would still bring almost all of the health benefits of quitting.
I’m not a huge fan of bans of any sort, tho, although I’d accept that property owners are free to set their own rules and accept the consequences thereof. It’s more that I just wish people wouldn’t do it because it’s bad for them, and an imposition on others.

Studies of cancer deaths in the general population showed that the effects of exposure to secondhand smoke, despite the dilution by mixing with other air, is almost as strong as the effects of smoking on the smokers themselves.
In order for that to be the case, the secondhand smoke itself would have to be far more toxic than the primary smoke, presumably caused by the insufficient oxygen supplied to a passively burning cigarette compared to one being inhaled through.
In the end, it’s not worse for secondhand smokers than for the smokers themselves, but it’s almost as bad and completely involuntary. All this, because the secondhand smoke itself is much more potent.
As for myself, I hold my breath whenever walking past smokers. I don’t feel like subjecting myself to harm as a result of their addictions.

A study that has been published in the last few months has cast doubt on the number of people who have gotten cancer from secondhand smoke. As in, of the 3400 deaths from cancer per year from secondhand smoke in the US that have been claimed for decades, the actual number is probably closer to, if not exactly, zero. The only people that had anything close to a statistically significant higher chance of cancer risk from secondhand smoke were cohabitators (primarily spouses) of durations longer than 30 years, and even that didn’t necessarily meet the threshold to be called significant increase.
There are certainly other effects, some quite bothersome.

Well, as a smoker, how did I like this episode? Well, it did remind me of how people comport themselves in public. You ever get on a bus and find that you got some folk talking into their mobiles like they want Mars to be part of the conversation?
How about those nerts that stand in from of a building’s entrance/exit like they own it? Just standing there chewing the fat, ignoring the people around them and the express purpose of ingress and egress…
Or, you feel pleasant enough today, and in the grocery store you like to nod and say hello, smile to a random stranger, cause that’s pleasant. And you get a look like they think they must owe you a huge some of money.
Yeah, I usually go out of the way when I smoke. If someone passes by, I put my cigarette hand behind my back, and and careful not to blow smoke at them.
I guess we all have problems dealing with people in public.

Well, like in my home state of Kentucky, the excise taxes on smokes are kinda curtailed. Prices are fixed. And many Diet members admit to having stock in tobacco companies. Packs are cheap as compared to many other nations. You should expect to pay more for a pack in the UK (around ten to 12 US $) than in NYC. But in Japan, much like Kentucky, prices are fixed and the 410 yen rate is pretty much on board with the $ 4.75 average. I smoke cheaper brands that are usually less than four dollars a pack. Since I moved last year, and don’t smoke inside any long, my habit has decreased significantly. I go out on my balcony. I haven’t smoked indoors in about a year, and was surprised I could smoke in a restaurant last week. The manager brought us back inside and offered to give us free drinks.

Best Magical Girl transformation scene ever! As a non-smoker I’d be onboard for Kate conquering the world if getting rid of smoking was something she’d do as ruler. However, her method is too drastic. She should use persuasion rather than violence. But I guess if you’re the non-violent type you’re not going to conquer the world.
With her anti-smoking campaign taking hold with the majority of the public in their city, even to the point where normally peaceable citizens are ready to use violence, we see that Kate has the charisma and power of persuasion to get people to follow her, attributes necessary for a would-be conqueror.

While I myself hated the smell of cigarette smoke I still think that going too far what with the persecution and witch hunt. And what up with the anti-evil bomb? Isn’t that a bit too extreme for the so-called Heroes?

Oooooooh yeah that works! Seems this season is all about witch hunting themes in Wizard Barristers, Witch Craft Works and a few others.
Right it was Roboko who was dumping water all over Yasu every time he tried to light a smoke! That is one dedicated robot or is it just Natasha looking out for Yasu’s health? Either way it was so damn funny.
True bombing the smokers was a bit extreme but I think it was more for the comical set up with Yasu using his face to prevent it from blowing up on the people.

I think the tone of the show is interesting, especially in light of the comments here. Kate is an anti-hero. She is trying to conquer the world, and said conquering was portrayed in the prologue as not exactly a good thing. Sure, she’s likeable, but she’s also objectively the bad guy. That her goals sometimes line up with the general population is probably what will allow her to conquer the world. So her methods are completely in line with her goals and objectives.

Kate’s doing the wrong things for the right reasons. In her mind or that of any revolutionary, the ends justify the means, no matter how brazen or ethically bankrupt the tactics may be. It’s playing both the hero and villain. Much like “V” from V for Vendetta using terrorism, chaos and violence to liberate England from its corrupt government that used fear and lies to control the masses.

I think that is the appeal of Zvezda for me we don’t really have a lot of anime from the villain’s pov and sure so far things have been more on the laughter side of things, but yeah I would agree her methods need a bit of work because so far she is just promoting violence to get what you want!

Kate is intense. If things can get this extreme over a moderate social problem like smoking, just imagine what she’ll do concerning the bigger ones. The fact she can rally an entire district with sheer charisma shows her plans for world conquest can actually be possible.
What I want to see is how Kate got her members. I saw how Kill la Kill’s Satsuki Kiriyuin got her team so it should be soon time to see how Kate does it her way. That aside, what is she that she can intimidate Gorou?
