Diabolik Lovers – 05

Teddy’s probably immune to NTR by now.

Just a reminder of how much everyone’s childhood absolutely sucked. I really do hope they go more into the character’s pasts, since that should explain a lot about these brothers. …I feel like I say this a lot, but other than background info, the pasts are also rather interesting for all of the wrong reasons. Quite like this show in general.

DiaLovers500004

There were more of Kanato’s mood swings this episode, but is that really surprising? There was the line about him killing his mother, which might actually be true coming from him, but for the most part, it was just fun times in the graveyard. …At least he went through some steps for Yui’s sake. Kind of. I don’t think Yui appreciated Kanato’s kiss as much as he thought she should. Kanato hasn’t really had an episode of his own, but now that I look at it, all of the characters seem to share half of an episode. So maybe he’s not as special (to the plot, he’s certainly a ‘special’ character) as I had thought. I’d still love to see any of his endings animated though.

…I have no comment on Yui’s intelligence though. Hearing suspicious sounds in this household (I thought it might have been Laito at first, which should have been a clear indication for Yui to get the hell out of there anyways), and actually going to check them out. Why. And then she trusts the tea. I guess Reiji was drinking the same stuff before with no negative effects (and Reiji talks rather politely… but then again, so does Kanato), but every time Yui has done anything in this household, it hasn’t turned out well for her. I don’t know what she was thinking this time. One thing I do know about Reiji’s character is that he does experiments or something. So if you’re wondering why the tea was off and what he made Yui drink afterwards, I don’t know about specifics, but he does this kind of thing in his spare time.

DiaLovers500012DiaLovers500013

I knew that Reiji was a sadist, but holy crap is he ever a sadist. Ayato is like that immature kid who teases the girl he likes, Laito and Kanato are lost causes have issues of their own, Shu doesn’t give a damn and Subaru hasn’t been covered yet, but Reiji definitely took things pretty far. Maybe it’s a good thing that we had Laito’s scene in the church in the last episode to prepare people for Reiji. Though Laito gets off on just about everything and anything (trust me), while Reiji seems to enjoy pain and suffering the most. Ahaha… I don’t know what’s worse. This certainly sucks for Yui all around though. This seems like it was right after Kanato, so she probably wasn’t feeling great to begin with.

DiaLovers500007DiaLovers500014

Is there a reason why Reiji only wears one glove? It seems like an odd choice of attire. Plus there seemed to be some kind of significance with him bothering to take it off for Yui. I guess his issue seems to have to do with his mother too, just like every other character on this show. Though his and Shu’s mother is different from the woman we saw in Ayato’s flashback. She seems… nicer than Ayato’s mother, though I guess that didn’t stop Reiji from developing issues all the same. He seems to have a strong dislike for Shu, that I have no idea about. I know exactly why Shu would dislike Reiji, but I’m just going to assume Reiji’s main issue is just angst over Shu getting all of the attention because he was the oldest. Even more so, since I think I was told that he’s the oldest out of the other brothers as well, and first in line to inherit Karl’s position as king of vampires or whatever he is. I was also told that Reiji’s asshat behaviour doesn’t really get an explanation in the game though, so who knows. I should probably hurry and play this route to find out.

Maybe this was just because this one had Reiji in it, but I hope the episodes keep up this trend of being darker. Yui… just doesn’t seem to learn. It’s terrible that she has to ‘learn’ anything in the first place, but really, there should be a point where one would just start avoiding these characters. Maybe Kanato was unavoidable, but Yui could have saved herself a looot of trouble if she just ignored Reiji and kept walking. But I guess we wouldn’t have character interaction if Yui just stopped giving a damn about everyone, and Yui wouldn’t be a very good otome game heroine if she didn’t have the ‘kind and caring’ personality somewhere in there.

As for the next episode, it looks like that balcony scene that I was talking about somewhere in episode 4’s post. I didn’t think they’d include that. Maybe they’re really going for a Kanato ending, since he seems to be appearing an awful lot (has Ayato even had screen time since episode 3?). Or maybe they’re just favouring him because he’s popular in Japan or something. I don’t know his popularity level for sure though.

DiaLovers500015

Either way, he sure appears in these previews a lot.

Yeah, you said about Yui being worried when Kanato jumped off the roof or something, and then getting called a nuisance by the guy.

Yui, don’t march into a guy’s room so nonchalantly. At least knock -_- no, srsly. Normal people knock first, right? But she just had to waltz in and invade his personal space. I thought Reiji would be crazy, but this much?
I feel like by combining 2 beothers per episode, they’re trying to save time or something. And next episode they’re going to introduce Subatu, as far as I can tell. Yay~

So, that guy is their uncle? And he was talking about an awakening. Is this really going to pull a Vampire Knight plot twist? o-o

    • Japaninspired says:

He jumped from the balcony. It was actually kind of a sweet moment, and Kanato was teasing Yui, but in the end he just called her annoying. 🙁

I think Yui wasn’t thinking because she was anemic. I understand her so well. And the most awful thing is that everything goes blank, your head spins and you feel like you’ll fall any moment. It was a bit strange that she looked pretty normal when she walked into Reiji’s room though.
Yay for Subaru, It’s kind of sad that he just left him out. And Ayato is already forgotten.

A Vampire Knight plot twist? Haha, yeah, I guess you can say that, but it’s going to be far more complicated.

    • BlackBriar says:

This has had stuff similar to Vampire Knight already. By awakening, if you mean Yui is actually a pureblood vampire under the guise of a human and doesn’t know it herself. At this point, I can’t say that would surprise me.

      • Karakuri says:

Oh Vampire Knight. Well, it’s kind of that, only more convoluted, plot-hole-ish and full of awkward family relations. …Not that Vampire Knight was without awkward family relations, but DiaLovers is even more so.

        • Namika says:

I think the fact that Yuuki and Kaname are siblings is more awkward than the mother issue in DL. Well, I still don’t know a lot, but at this point that’s how I see it.

      • Namika says:

Well, looks like that’s not quite what’s going to happen. Though I still have a spare idea. An even more cliche one 😀

        • Japaninspired says:

You were actually really really close. So tell us your secong idea 🙂

    • Karakuri says:

At least they’re animating things I know now. xD

Uh, yeah, I think the normal thing to do is to knock. Especially with those kind of noises. But yeah, that’s Reiji for you. His sadism didn’t let me down, and he’s pretty much how I expected him.

Well, that and I don’t think Yui would last a full episode with some of the brothers. Maybe someone like Shu would be okay, but Yui barely got through less than 10 minutes with Reiji. xD

      • Namika says:

That made me rage. KNOCK, you idiot. Who knows, what could he be doing there >_>

Reiji really is the baddest of them all. Though I didn’t realize until reading this post, how terrible and sadistic the things he said were. At first I didn’t have a reaction at all xDD

  2. Japaninspired says:

Karakuri-san, you’ve guessed right, Reiji hates Shu because he got all the attention and also Show ▼

    • Karakuri says:

Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that it was you who said those things about Shu in the first place. …Good to know my wild guessing wasn’t completely off.

PFFFTAHAHAHA is that seriously his goal? Oh, I am SO going to enjoy Reiji’s route whenever I get there. These characters are hilarious.

      • Japaninspired says:

Oh, I guess it was me. 🙂

Ahaha, yeah, I’m serious. That is his goal in life.
        He’s like Show ▼

  3. d-LaN says:

I’m terribly sorry, but it seems like I may have to put DiaLovers on hold to accomodate the busy fall season. I will still drop by here weekly though.

Aaannddd here comes the otome bat. Still, she does a good job evading the dreaded bat for quite a while.

Well, someone who is familiar with the game told me tht Reiji is actually one of the better brothers. But I can’t see tht frm the episode impression. Maybe the anime haven’t reached there yet?

……They are really going to do the Kanato route frm the looks of it, is it?

    • Japaninspired says:

what? Reiji is one of the “best”? How? Could it be that you are mistaking him with Subaru? Because I personally think Reiji is the worst.

It does look a bit the the anime is doing Kanato’s route. I think it’s because he’e quite popular. And maybe, because his route was probably the most interesting. Well, it might be just me, but those are my thoughts 🙂

I personally think Kanato’s route was the most nice one. I mean, is has sadistic moments, and it’s not too “nice”, so it was a good balance, and it did really well to keep me intertained.

      • Namika says:

*O* So Subaru IS the best one?????? :3

      • Karakuri says:

Nah, I thought Kanato’s was the most interesting route as well. Despite his fetishes, Laito really bored me. Ayato (…still working on him) has his moments, but really, the best of the triplets is Kanato.

…I want the S route ending. If they animate any ending, please let it be Kanato’s S route ending.

        • Japaninspired says:

Kanato’s S ending? I kind of forgot already, are you talking about the one where Show ▼

Yeah, no matter that there’s a character that was even nicer to Yui, Kanato will still be my favorite.

    • Karakuri says:

Ah, good luck with whatever you’re doing. If you ever do manage to catch up, I’ll be here. Blogging about sadistic vampires. xD

…Yeah, I don’t know who you were talking to, but every single person I’ve talked to who’s played the game says that Reiji is the biggest asshat of them all for no real reason.

      • d-LaN says:

        @Kara @Japaninspired
This is wht the poster told me about reiji:

        Show ▼

        And yeah, kanato route is…. something. The NOPE factor is strong with him ^_^;

        • Japaninspired says:

Well, that was awkward. When I played the game, I REALLY didn’t feel that Reiji even cared for Yui, even in the “good” end he’s like “I will break you and you will be mine forever”. He never even said that he likes or loves her, unlike Kanato, who I think is one of the characters that really loved Yui, and he really said that to her(I’m not going to name the other 2 characters because of spoilers, atleast for now).

I have no idea who wrote this thing that you posted, maybe this someone just really likes Reiji and tries to protect him and find excuse for him being such an asshole.
And Reiji doesn’t TEACH Yui manners. He was WHIPPING her when she did something wrong under the words “if you cant learn from words, I will teach your body” or something like that. Also he was using her as a guinea-pig to see how a body will react to his drugs.

But our stupid Yui in his route pretty much just does what he says and even gets to like him (I don’t know how) and he even finds her interesting (probably because of her strong blood). But I really didn’t feel anything special between them. Reiji pretty much got angry about EVERYTHING. When Kanato has special things that he gets angry about like when Yui is mentioning his brothers or that he hate’s being waited or when he’s laughed at, (I don’t want to write everything she did, but I was pretty much shocked how dumb Yui was for not learning about some things from the beggining). But still, closely to the end when Yui did something nice for him, he accepted it and was happy. When Yui did something nice for Reiji (and it was already in the Good end) Reiji was just throwing everything in Yui’s face.

          • d-LaN says:

……..That was awkward ._. And wow, the otome bat hits hard in Reiji route.

But then again I’m willing to give the poster a benefit of doubt. Maybe I will go ask the poster abt it when I got the chance in the future.

            • japaninspired says:

I actually forgot to mention what I meant under the words “when Yui did something nice for Kanato, he accepted it”. I wanted to add that its not about the butterfly scene, when Kanato got really angry, and I was so facepalming, because I knew what will happen when Yui only got the thought of bringing it to him. But that was probably the only thing that I really hate about him. Kanato is WAY too possessive.

Yeah, he has a reason for all these things, but really, some things are just too strange.

  4. Japaninspired says:

By the way, I always forget to ask this, does anyone find the sound when they bite into the skin a bit…strange? It’s like Yui is a balloon.

    • BlackBriar says:

For me, it sounds just the way it looks, that her skin is being pierced whenever she’s bitten. It probably sounds that way for you based on how fast they bite into her. If it was slow, I doubt it would make much of a sound.

      • japaninspired says:

Guess I’m just too picky. Or I just prefer the way they did it in the drama cd’s, and I mean no sound at all. It’s just that I get the feeling that Yui’s skin is too thick and they have to use so much strength to bite into it. Lol

    • Karakuri says:

I’ve never really noticed. I tend to not notice sound effects unless they’re reaaaally out of place. I’ll pay attention in the next episode I guess.

  5. BlackBriar says:

So far, Kanato is the one I’m most tolerable with despite his mood swings and his limited screen time. At least he had some form of decency of caring about what a girl likes or dislikes before having his way with Yui. I kind of liked his method of feeding the third time he bit her. Drinking blood from her chest. It’s very old school and made him look more refined vampire-wise than his brothers.

As Yui was stumbling through the hallways, you could see she was anemic and could barely walk yet she deliberately went into the hornet’s nest by waking up one of the other brothers. That girl is a glutton for punishment.

Somehow, Reiji’s reveal just made him look more childish and immature than Ayato. If that’s even possible. I expected that the worrying of maintaining one’s composure would get the best of him but it doesn’t look like it takes much to get under his skin.

    • Karakuri says:

Kanato’s mood swings have been toned down a lot, but he’s a pretty funny character. I think 70% of my like for his character comes from the bear’s backstory, but maybe the anime will go into that.

Yep. That she is. Whether she realizes it or not.

Uh, I still think of Ayato as the childish one (maybe it’s the fact that he refers to himself as “ore-sama”). I rather like both characters though. :3

      • Japaninspired says:

Yup, I’ve noticed it too, that Kanato is really calm here. Unlike in the game. And it looks that they wont show us the moment with the fork. And I was looking forward to it 🙁

Rather than a child, Reiji is like a mean teacher, lol.
But yeah, Ayato is the childish one, and it’s funny since Kanato is younger than him, but acts a little bit more mature, even thought he’s like a spoiled child too.

  6. EdBunny says:

I feel like the other episodes should have followed the theme of Episode 4 and 5. Because they are the best episodes out of this darn series and the only reason I am continuely watching. Reiji and Raito seriously gives me the heebies. But so does Kanato. Kanato’s mood swing just I was wow.
