Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – 23

railgunnn S (3)

Misaka is feeling a bit lazy today.

Oh my god! Railgun S is ending next week! This makes me really sad, oh well I hope the ending is explosive and epic, but the clock is ticking on Febri’s life and Misaka is currently in trouble! Damn things are getting super intense near the end…

—————————————————-

Which side are you on Shinobu?

railgunnn S (7)

Shinobu-“Dam I can’t decide who is cuter! Febri or Janie…”

Lately I have questioned the actions of Shinobu throughout this series because at first glance it appeared like she was helping STUDY achieve their goals! Thankfully this week cleared that question because we found out that she was sold to STUDY after she got knocked out ITEM and it is finally clear to us now that she only decided to help them as a way to redeem herself for her past sins, even though in the world of science once something is created and the data is backed up it is quite tough to erase it especially if someone has copies of your experiments. While we are talking about experiments what the hell is up with Janie’s power to control anything with just her hair? I was like whoa that is definitely overpowered, but originally I thought that Janie was going to be some mixture of all the level fives rolled into one body because after all STUDY has followed ITEM and Misaka and I still can’t shake the fact that Febri and Janie both have golden blond hair like Misaki who has a similar “control” ability, but of course if you think hard about it you could say that Janie is technically an oddball mixture of both Misaki and Rikou because of the whole AIM/Control power setup and what about Febri? What kind of power does she have hidden inside of her or is she really just spare parts for Janie? I guess we won’t really know until the final showdown!

Extra railgun fun

railgunnn S (1)

I think there was something extra in that drug Misaka took…

railgunnn S (2)

It still doesn’t beat good old german science~

railgunnn S (5)

Rest well Febri.

railgunnn S (8)

This is a good ship.

End thoughts

What an interesting episode and I have to ask is it wrong that I feel kind of bad for Haruki? I mean he does present a good argument about people being born with special powers versus normal folks who have to work hard especially if you think of the other overpowered level fives like Accelerator, Meltdowner, Mental Out and Railgun who are known because they are powerful, but yeah I know Haruki is going about it all wrong by creating Febri and Janie to simply show off what STUDY can do. As a side note I wonder if there is a Saten in an alternate universe somewhere because I feel that she would probably join STUDY because for a while back in season one she felt the same about being born without any cool power and speaking of Saten, who else shouted when they saw her at the end swinging that bat? Oh man I can’t wait till the next episode! So what are you expecting to happen at the end of the series and will there be tears of sadness or joy for Febri and Janie? I just hope that no one has to die in the end even though I have Shinobou pegged as a possible choice.

Shinobu Skylion-”Dam I can’t decide who is cuter! Febri or Janie…”

I’m with you, Fosh, what is up with that hair. I’ve seen some hare-brained explanations for how magic and powers work in this setting, but Wow.

And yes, the study of ITEM is not well explained by STUDY; was it just there to shoe-horn the last cours antagonists into a few appearances? I’m good with that; can’t get enough of Frenda or Kinuhata…

And, yes, by the end I was whooping “GO SATEN-SAN”…my neighbors didn’t thank me….

    • Foshizzel says:

You can have both! Janie and Febri <3

Ahahah yeah Janie has some magical blond hair! I kinda would have liked if Janie used magical powers and Febri had ESP power? That would be a unique idea but I think it has been done if not they SHOULD do that xD

Ahhh right that old scientist from the index-verse I was like wait I KNOW THAT GUY and yeah I will miss not hearing Frenda T___T

      Saten ftw <3

Oh my god! Railgun S is ending next week! This makes me really sad

Railgun S isn’t the only show on its way out but it’s still saddening. This last week of September is the curtain call for the remaining Summer animes and those ongoing from Spring. It reinforces the fact that Fall is right around the corner.

The dramatic build up here is like watching a prelude to war. A fair amount of strings were pulled from this though it’s doubtful anyone is actually going to die, just seriously messed up. But I do expect some metal carnage with all these power suits and security robots moving about.

I never once thought Shinobu would turn evil, not after the moral dilemma she went through trying to save the Misaka Sister from the Level 6 Shift experiment. Besides, it was apparent she’d have no choice but to cooperate when you think back to when she was captured and one of the ITEM members said she’d lose everything except her life.

When you look at things a certain way, STUDY is just a bunch of bitter individuals jealous and resentful that they’ve been isolated from the rest of the community. Nothing more insipid than a child whinning about not wanting to be left out. Haruki and his justified argument would get some sympathy if he didn’t take so much pleasure in discarding people when they’re no longer needed and leaving them to die without a means of survival.

Personally, I don’t think Saten would join STUDY unless she was being pushed, like at every turn she was being discrimated for being a level 0 and had no one to talk to about her problems. Here, she has friends so she’s not all that bothered. That and she’s a brutal optimist.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah there are a handful of series that I will miss once they end like Love Lab, Kirino Mosaic, Gatchaman, AoT and of course RailgunS! There are a lot of other shows I could list but that might take a while ahahah

Right there will be lots of broken robots in the finale <3

I always thought she was under some ESPERS power aka brainwashing her in order to make her work for them? I mean that was always a possibly but now we know the truth!

I feel for them but of course they are going about it all wrong by toying with Febri and Janie's lives in order to achieve success? Honestly I feel STUDY would be arrested on the spot LOL

Right it was just a random thought since pre-season one she was always worried about having powers! I mean what if she never had a great friend like Uiharu and the other girls to guide her? Also if she never met Febri? I feel she would join STUDY if she was pushed...

Nagai is definitely taking revenge at Nishikiori for what happened in the Endymion movie. Because now Saten’s bat is out to save the day.
    Fucking Nagaispace.

I just want Index III already.

    • d-LaN says:

Sure, let blame everything to Nagai when Kamachi also helped with the plot of this arc.

      • belatkuro says:

I doubt Kamachi has anything to do with this. There’s way too much inconsistency to the canon and he hates inconsistencies. Not to mention, Kamachi doesn’t make enemies as lame as this. If anything, he probably just gave a rough outline and details of the arc then left everything to the staff.
He even said before that he was surprised that the Poltergeist arc worked with all the things that happened in there.

        • Foshizzel says:

too much inconsistency to the canon ahh the world of random filler arcs! I don’t mind as much but I can see why diehard fans would find it to be annoying…

        • skylion says:

Kamichi may hate plot or character inconsistencies, but he must love ham-fisting international politics, bureaucracy, and the like. It was incredibly simplistic in English Civil and is getting marginally better in WWIII. This is from my standpoint reading fan-translations as of LN 21.

    • Foshizzel says:

Saten is ready to crush some evil robots <3

Along with myself I think you might be the only other person that I know of who actually wants more Index! Most people are like ewwwwwwwww more of that crap series? Still I have my complaints about the series and movie, but I can still find some enjoyment watching the daily live of Touma and friends.

      • sonicsenryaku says:

The problem lies with the director of Index; he either rushes through the material too fast resulting in arcs becoming very esoteric and lacking any impact whatsoever or he lacks the know-how of how to direct the exposition, so then the arcs become very slow and tedious. There is enjoyment to be had but the bad points of the series shows itself too often.

        • Foshizzel says:

True that a director can make or break a series really really quickly with rushing the plot/story along like Guilty Crown >.>

          • sonicsenryaku says:

Its such a shame really; for example, volume 13 of the index series was suppose to be one of the best arcs of the series, but Index II blew threw it so quickly that in my opinion, it didnt live up to its reputation. Not to mention it was super dark and violent so it got toned down a bit

      • skylion says:

I agree the series is rushed. I still want more. III time is the charm. As it stands, the source material almost demands that characters and plots go by in the blink of an eye. Kamichi seems to demand that sort of thing….

        • sonicsenryaku says:

Fans will lose their shit if Index III doesnt live up to expectations; the arcs that season will cover are a compilation of fan favorites so for JC staff’s sake i hope the tread carefully in their adaptation of it

          • skylion says:

Document of Constantine, Battle Royal, Acqua of the Back, English Civil War and World War Three. The Acqua arc features some rather sloppy pacing, so if they speed that up, I would be ever grateful. He kicks enough ass in the Civil war and World war. Constantine just needs one or two minor bits of information to convey, so it can get in and out fast. But Battle, Civil, and World needs a strong touch. Especially Lessar. Definitely Lessar.

  4. HannoX says:

I’m expecting to see a lot of robots reduced to junk next week! And with Saten’s motherly instincts aroused by Febri I expect to see her as fierce as a lioness defending her cub. Go, Saten, go! Smash, Saten, smash!

I can understand STUDY feeling the way they do since espers get all the glory in Academy City while students like themselves are practically ignored. However, they allowed their jealousy and resentment to twist them into callous monsters. I won’t feel any sorrow for them if any are killed or when they’re hauled off to prison except for Shinobu. Though the death flag may have been raised for Shinobu. Which would probably be a relief to her given her guilt over her involvement in the Level 6 project and in STUDY’s project.

Of course, this being Academy City I suspect any members of STUDY hauled off to prison will end up working in a secret government project that no scientist with decent morals would be caught dead near.

    • Foshizzel says:

Same I expect there to be a lot of broken robots!

Right you can feel somewhat bad for STUDY until you remember oh right they created Janie and Febri for their own selfish gain and the fact that they do not care if they die? Yeah STUDY is terrible!

As for Shinobu yeah the death flag has been triggered, but if we REALLY think about it who has died besides some MISAKA clones? I can’t recall anyone dying in Railgun or Index which is unfortunate because I feel if they included such things more people would take Index/Railgun a bit more serious? Course death in anime doesn’t always = BEST SERIES EVAR…

      Probably right about the “prison”

  5. d-LaN says:

Despite the complaints of the hardcore fans, I’m still liking the filler arcs. I don’t give a damn abt minor canon inconsistency anyway. Looking forward to the robots vs Misaka and co. action 🙂

Agree with Fosh and HannoX here. I can understand how STUDY feels with regards about esper and normal people/Level 0, but their methods are too much. And is that a cameo of Kihara Gensei!?

Saten and her bat ~<3 Also, what is Konori ability again?

    On an unrelated note, has the Angel Fall arc started or ended sdy? Kinda wish that Railgun S gets an Angel Fall OVA where every1 goes on with their normal lives….. Only with their appearance switched. XD But then again considering Kuruko appearance got swapped with the US president…. ^_^;

    • Highway says:

I like this ‘filler’ arc more than anything else that’s been in the entire body of Rail-dex work that I’ve seen, which I’ll admit only extends to two series of Railgun and 1 series of Index. But from what I have heard, Index 2 and the movie are just more of what I *didn’t* like about Index. I don’t care about canon inconsistency either, I like what I like. It’s a far more human-scale drama, but I can see where people who want superhero shows wouldn’t like it.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I still love this current arc even though I am somewhat sad they never explored the sports arc, but I will hold out for a Railgun s3 after Index gets their s3 of course.

That was a nice cameo from Kihara Gensei!

Saten is going to hit a few home runs next week xD

      Konori’s powers are Show ▼

I could have sworn that was a Index only thing with Misaka acting as Touma’s cousin and Index becomes his mom? LOL that arc is hilarious xDD

      • skylion says:

        Ara Ara…Index’s mizugi.

      • d-LaN says:

Oho! Thanks for the tip. Its been a while since I saw Railgun S1.

^Haha true, body switching hijinks are LMAO. As sonicsenryaku said, the Silent Party arc is happening in the same time with Angel Fall arc but only a few realize this. They better have some omake/OVA of Silent Party arc w/out the normalcy filter XD

    • sonicsenryaku says:

In my opinion, the complaints hardcore fans are having about this filler arc in regards to continuity are quite minor and fall under nitpicks; mikoto asking for help in this arc does not make her character inconsistent; it gives her the much needed character development that she lacks and that Kamachi sucks at doing in his novels; plus her learning how to ask for help in this arc doesnt mean she’s going to be asking for help every single time, just that she’s finally learning how to. And yea this arc is happening while angel fall is going on, but technically, everyone involved in angel fall had no idea that their bodies were switched so technically, they’re lives would have proceeded normally. Not saying that the anime is perfect with the consistency of events, but what diehard fans have been upset about is, in my opinion, not major enough to be considered “disrupting canon”.

      • Foshizzel says:

True that does feel a little weak and in the overall timeline of Railgun it makes me think that this whole febri arc will become a “dream” in terms of being out of order? From what I gather after the stuff with ITEM/Accelerator we are technically supposed to be in the sports which is still going on in the manga, but I think this is a classic case of the anime getting too close to the manga arc which forces the creators to give us random filler…

        • sonicsenryaku says:

Agreed; not to mention the material currently happening in the manga would be too much to fit in 8 eps; i imagine the next season of railgun will be almost entirely based of the daihaiseisai arc; if this arc continues for another 10 chps in the manga, it actually might take up the whole 3rd season (they might name it railgun D)

  6. AllenAndArth says:

go shinobu i’m rooting for you and your side…whatever side you are…

    • Foshizzel says:

Same! How funny would it be if they revealed that she was trolling Misaka the entire time? As in she was the mastermind from the start? LOLOL JK I think that would cause a lot of rage…

    • BlackBriar says:

And if she suddenly and willingly sided with STUDY?

  7. Highway says:

I don’t recall any deaths of named characters in what I’ve seen of Index (1 season) and Railgun (both anime). The only deaths I can recall are of the Misaka clones. Everyone else gets beaten up, or defeated somehow, but not killed. So I really don’t think anyone would die in this show either.

Aratomi is no better than the people he claims to hate. He doesn’t want to be recognized as “as good as” them, he wants to be recognized as superior. He holds the same contempt for them that he imagines they all hold for him and his kind.

    • BlackBriar says:

But in Index II, one character I recall actually dying was Accelerator’s “mentor” and Power developer Amata Kihara whom Accelerator turned into dust by sending him into the upper atmosphere after he gained an ability that made him materialize black angel-like wings.

The other one in Index II who died was Ritoku Komaba, a Skill-Out leader who uses tactics and technology against his enemies who commited suicide in front of Accelerator to teach him a lesson about morality.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah yeah I know that is always the complaint about Index/Railgun they hardly ever kill anyone and as BB said there have been “some” character deaths like Amata, Ritoku and of course lots of MISAKA clones, but at the same time having characters die doesn’t make or break a series it just makes it a bit more realistic imo…I mean can you imagine if AoT had no character deaths or Madoka Magica? It would make them kinda G rated LOL

      • Highway says:

Well, I already have a problem with the wholesale character deaths in Titan, primarily the ‘throwing lives into the meat grinder unnecessarily’ aspect of it. I thought Madoka did pretty well having the right amount of meaningful deaths (to the story, not to the characters).

        • Foshizzel says:

Right I can see some character deaths in anime being important to progress the story like TTGL? I won’t spoil it but after that dramatic event it pushed one of the characters to greatness xD
