Magical girls are awesome!

When Fate/Kaleid was announce I will admit to being hyped because I love magical girls and I do enjoy the crazy Fate universe and to have both them combined into one series confused me! I wasn’t even sure how it would work originally, but I found it to be really exciting especially during the over the top battles! Anyway I did a quick video review because with all the other airing shows there just wasn’t enough time for me to cover this series week after week…

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

    The last one is tasty.
    Prisma Shirou
    Prisma EMIYA
    Prisma Kiritsugu

And where is our lovable shota Gil-kun?

  2. BlackBriar says:

Prisma Illya was a fun series. It did a good job balancing action, drama and comedy which most of the last mentioned comes from the childish rivalry between Rin and Luvia. With those two being so immature in the face of a mission, there was no way their wands could be blamed for abadonning. However, it would have better done if they were on the ground instead of midair of all places.

I went into this because I was getting more into Type Moon and thought I should give it a try despite the magical girl theme and here, that got a surprisingly serious tone compared to other animes of that trend because in Prisma Illya, there’s an undeniable chance of being killed in action and that shatters the whole childish feel when this show is looked at, from say, a simple fluffy looking image.

The battles were top notch, each one getting more intense than the last. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the one against Saber where Illya unconsciously uses Archer’s Heroic Spirit powers and totally kicks ass. Not to mention the sharp animation which makes it even more epic.

The more I went in, the more bummed I got when I realized there were only 10 episodes when it obviously deserved more and luckily a second season was announced on the last episode. And my guess is the second season would be released either Winter or Spring 2014 if a break period is going to be used like it was for Fate/Zero. Overall, with a few flaws, I give this series 7.5/10.

If anything, Prism made me want to continue to make time for Fate/Zero, even thou the continuity isn’t so much there. Hell, I was wishing for some magical girl antics while watching the Kerry episodes.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeaaah they did an excellent job balancing the drama, comedy and action moments quite nicely! Kind of reminded me of Kore wa zombie in certain ways.

Its great that the Fate world mixes so well with magical girls! Honestly I did not think it was going to do much but to my surprise it was a lot of fun <3

Season two better have 12 or 13 damn episodes even though I would LOVE to see 20+ episodes...

  3. skylion says:

Yeah, just like everyone else, I was bummed at the ten episode run, but they fit the first series of manga that way, and they would risk overrun into the second part had they gone on longer. They told a complete story, and with that I’m happy.

But they could have had some awesome filler, if they just tried. An entire episode of Illya’s “switch” being turned on….HNNNNNNNG. Or something else of equal entertainment….

Yes, I loved this series to death, it had all the parts that the skylion requires. Well, except for Berserker Install Bare Midriff…

I really enjoyed this series, even without having any background in anything Type-Moon (and honestly, having watched about 5 episodes of Fate/Zero, I like Prisma Illya better at this point). I thought they did very well making the characters be fully realized without really trading too much on what you knew about them before. Yes, you might get more out of them, or find some additional irony or humor if you know the characters from other properties, but as an alternate universe, this show stands alone very well.

The action was done well, and the story with Miyu and Illya held up. It was a little saddening to see Miyu’s reasons for doing everything on her own, but thankfully Illya changed her mind.

I also dropped Fate/Zero after a few episodes, but this I watched all the way through. Not a great series and not one I plan to own, but it was a lot of fun with a good balance of comedy, drama and action. Looking forward to season two.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

To each their own. Fate/Zero is actually worth watching, even only if it is for Father Kotomine “Scheudenfreude” Kirei.

To put it this way, I watched only *two* shows, both Mahou Shoujo, this being one of them, the other is obvious.

And this season, there is only 1 anime at the moment: The Legend of Korra.

        • BlackBriar says:

I forgot about The Legend of Korra starting another season this month and I already missed the first episode. I got to remember and find the time to watch that.

        • Highway says:

Heh, Kirei’s the character I don’t really care for, either, because I think the voice is just too much of a mismatch from the look. He more than anyone just sounds like a dub, and I find it distracting.

    • Foshizzel says:

Oh man Kyokai is gonna murder you! JK!

Yeah I can see a lot of people dropping it after the first few episodes because honestly it doesn’t really get that great until the 2nd half when all the action picks up and the story is finally rolling along at a faster pace.

Prisma illya’s action was great and the two main magical girls are a lot of fun to watch <3

I’m gonna watch the last four tonite. Pleas don’t feed me the creepy wyrms that have feasted on the innocent!

I didn’t have much interest in this at first after seeing this painfully bad PV that made it look like a typical cute girls doing cute things nothing show. Fast forward several weeks, when Illya turned into Archer and everyone watching it was raving about it, and I decided as a die hard Type-Moon fan to give it another shot. I was so very glad I did. To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to the story, but the action alone was enough to keep me hooked. The aforementioned Archer fight scene was easily the highlight of the show and one of the highlights of any show this year. Just some of the best melee combat I’ve ever seen in a TV anime. I did not see this coming at all from Shin Oonuma, who is known mainly for his Shinbo-influenced surreal visuals in shows such as BakaTest, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, and this season’s Watamote. I couldn’t be happier we’re getting another season of this, because his talents in action need to continue to be showcased.

A thousand points have been given just for that sentence. I prefered Illya’s fight as Archer against Saber over Miyu’s fight against Berserker using Saber’s power. If there was a category for best fight, the former would surely gain some votes.

      • skylion says:

…and that is really just a way of saying “out of all that awesome, which was super awesome”.

  7. fragb85 says:

I hope you’re aware that the pic of the dark-skinned girl in an Archer cosplay is NOT Illya. That’s Kuro, an original character introduced in the Prisma manga and NOT yet introduced in the anime. In fact, most of the fanarts you posted have Kuro in them. Spoilers?

At least the second season is confirmed so she will definitely show up then. And yes she is pretty badass.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I suppose that is spoiler-ish stuff but I didn’t say who that was but also there isn’t a lot of safe for work images to use for fanart sadly >.< Good to know!
