Fall Anime Catalogue 2013

Welcome to METANORN’s Fall Anime Catalogue of 2013!

For the first time, I’m not going to complain about the heat this summer because I got to spend around two months of amazing Winterful vacation. So, even when I’m back to the tropical heat, we’ll have the usual transition of Fall soon, which means truckloads of shows and let me tell you, the line-up is bitchin’! I clearly won’t have time to watch everything but I will sample most of it. What makes me happiest is the fact of Action/mecha/Fantasy hoarding along with sizeable sports anime. This is definitely a unique genre line-up and I’m really looking forward to Samurai Flamenco, Yozakura Quartet, Kuroko no Basket, Pupa, Kyousogiga and the most awaited Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin movie.
I’m going to be honest, I’m so blindsided by the fact that Phi Brain season 3 is coming out that I can scarcely gauge my excitement for the other shows. That is precisely because they are all just “the other shows.” Yes, Fall does have a lot of good pickings for you regardless of what tickles your fancy. Of course I’ll try them all but…it’s just so hard to pull my attention away from puzzle time for more than a microsecond…
Hooray! The heat of summer is over! Just kidding Florida kind of stays hot FOREVER, but thankfully the fall season is here to give us something to watch as we stay locked up in our air conditioned houses. So have you seen the massive new anime? I just have to say that this season looks really AMAZING! I can’t wait to watch more Valvrave s2 along with Kill la kill, Yozakura Quartet, Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!, Phi brain s3, Kyoukai no Kanata and just about everything else.
Well, summer is over and fall is here. I wasn’t really looking forward to much when I first looked at the list of what’s airing, but few titles caught my eye… Er, well, Diabolik Lovers is a given (I seem to be alone on that one), but who could pass up Meganebu!, which seems to have the ultimate premise any anime could ever have. …Oh, I guess KyoAni’s new thing looks interesting too. For the most part though, I’m just going to try everything and see what I stick with.
Just as a catch up on one season, I’m facing another, much more intense season. Anyway, Fall this year is rich with a number of interesting shows that I’m actually pretty excited to check out. Kyoukai no Kanata is definitely at the top of my list since I’m curious to see how KyoAni handles a dark fantasy series; not to mention I’m going to need something KyoAni to fill this swimming pole sized hole in my heart (sorry, really bad reference. Other series I’m eager to see are Coppelion, which judging from what I read in its manga was quite good, and the long-awaited full series of Kyousogiga. Now I just hope I can actually keep up this year…
Remember when summer season looked packed? Well fall season ups the ante. The usual big name studios are joined now by Trigger, which you may know from such quality shows as Inferno Cop. You guys did watch Inferno Cop, right? In all seriousness though, it looks like Trigger is finally ready to bring us something real (Little Witch Academia notwithstanding) this season with the much-hyped Kill la Kill. Also notable are a work from Toradora’s author, guys and girls with glasses, lots of mecha, vampires, flying fish, moe missionaries, cannibalism, and sexy idol wrestling. And that only barely skims the surface, so it looks like we’re in for a blast.
Leaves fall from the trees, the apples out front *thunk* to the ground, and new anime series drop into our laps! That means the beginning of the fall season, and we’ll see if it can hold up to the usual “second best” season of the year this year, although given the relative weakness of spring, hopefully it will be the best. There are some series I’m looking forward to, and as usual a lot more that I’ll watch!
Damn, this season has a bunch of shows. I wish you a lot of luck as I do all anime fans at finding the time to watch all these shows. Of the shows this season, as a long time Ippo fan I’m excited for the return of that anime series and dudes punching the crap out of each other. Certainly more interesting (and cheaper) than paying dumb high prices to watch a PPV bout. I’m also a baseball fan and am hopeful that Ace of Diamond turns out good.
Is the summer season really over? I can honestly say there was a different show coming out each and every day of the week I was genuinely looking forward to. But fall is upon us, which means a whole new batch of shows to look forward to. For me, only one show by former members of Gainax – and starring a voice actress who hasn’t been heard in anime since their 2001 6 episode OVA masterpiece – has caught my attention, but every season has its fair share of surprises. Who could have predicted Shin Oonuma’s masterful one-two punch of Watamote and Prisma Illya or Gainax’s return to glory with Stella Women’s Academy High School Division Class C3 this season? So let’s look forward to the coming weeks with an open mind and find more gems that are surely hiding.

Enjoy the comprehensive list of Fall anime 2013, meticulously organized. With 42 TV series alone, I had to make more categories to fit everything in and for a change we do have more action, adventure, fantasy, mecha than any other season in the last five years and that is saying something. So, we can only wish you good luck in

    Lol do you guys enjoy seeing lolis suffer? ^_^;

@skylion Frm wht I heard, key works tends to have heavy DORAMA in it so I guess you have to live with it.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

All I want to say now is: Oh sweet neko loli!

Apparently that is the fad of the week if you’ve seen what it refers to.

    • Highway says:

See, people kept saying this about LB! so I was waiting for it… and waiting… and waiting… and waiting some more. And it never really seemed to get there until the very end of the first series. And when it did, it was so over the top that it just didn’t have much impact on me (dinky little country has a rocket blow up and civil war?) I mean, Kud’s cute and all, but it just felt like such paint-by-numbers stuff that it wasn’t very heavy.

Maybe Refrain will do better, but it needs to make these folks feel more relevant to have any drama impact.

      • skylion says:

I should correct myself. Not heavy drama, but heavy handed application of said drama. Ham-fisted, in fact. And as you say, kills the impact. Plus Kud was saved by….magic powers?

      • d-LaN says:

        Maybe I should correct myself:

key works tend to have heavy DORAMA when it reach the heroines arc.

(I only watched LB! and AB! though so I don’t know if this applies to CLANNAD and Air too.)

But another trend of key works is they tend to make you feel sad/down. That and the key magic.

Aaaahhh I have one big research which proposal is due two weeks from now, and I have another proposal that needs to be submitted this Friday. I have to write a reflection and story for this Wednesday, and midterm starts next week. Pluuusss I don’t use the internet anymore, so I can only use the internet in college.

BUT SO MANY BISHIES I NEED TO WATCH THIS SEASON AND I’M GOING TO WATCH THEM BUT I’M SO BUSY AND AAAAAAHHHHHH *sob*

    • Irenesharda says:

Totally understand. I’ve got papers due every week, my student job, readings that I constantly have to keep up with, and I’m preparing my research proposal to lead up to my thesis.

However, I will try to make this work! I’ve been staying up with the anime seasons thus far. I think it will work out. 😀

      • anaaga says:

You’re showing some spirit. I will not lose to you! I’ll keep up with the anime season as many as possible while enjoying my busy youth life 😀

    • Namika says:

Anaaga-san, it will be okay! 🙂

  3. Irenesharda says:

It’s VALVRRAAAAAAAAAVVEEE!!! IT’S BACK!!! I can hardly wait for October (Which is tomorrow, yay!). All of my summer shows are finished and I’m can really feel the void. I’m going to miss Shingeki and Free! and BK from Gatchaman was awesome (even if that show had a lukewarm ending…-_-)

Anyway, it’s on to the Fall Season, and the return of my most anticipated series of next season and favorite mecha series in recent years.

As for the rest of my picks for the season, I’m also highly anticipating:

    Arpeggio of the Blue Steel
    Strike the Blood
    Kill la Kill

    I’ll also be checking out:

    Coppelion
    Blazblue
    Nagi no Asukara
    Samurai Flamenco
    Meganebu!
    Pupa

Though Pupa, I’ve been hearing mixed results on. Some have said that it’s really a gore fest with the promise of more deep psychological themes that it never really delivers on. If that’s true, I won’t be staying with that one long.

I’m also happy that Shingeki and Blood Lad will be getting OVAs and Shingeki and Free! still have their specials that come out with their DVDs. I am precariously balancing this with trying to keep up with my readings and papers and my new student job, so I don’t really have the luxury of watching too much. Graduate school comes first, but I am still really excited about this season!

    • Irenesharda says:

I might just add Galilei Donna and Phi Brain if I can get caught up in time.

Also, along with the specials and OVAs, I will also probably check out the movie Sakasama no Patema.

      • Sumairii says:

A friend introduced me to Sakasama no Patema not too long ago with “it’s being directed by the same guy who did Time of Eve and Pale Cocoon”. So there’s certainly some cred to this movie. But when I watched the trailer, it looks unfortunately uninspired. I swear there was a live-action movie with almost exactly the same plot line…

Anyway, it still sounds worth a shot if Yasuhiro Yoshiura is on his game.

    • anaaga says:

      I’M EXCITED FOR VALVRAVE TOOOOOOOOO
That’s probably the anime I’m most excited now, even more than Kuroko, Magi, Gundam, etc. I want to know about everything now!

  4. Celestine says:

ok… so I aways look up stuff im metanorn (is actualy the only site i read anime reviews into because the others are good but not that good) and i never was brave enough to put anithing here i thought was worth reading but whit the fall season coming, and i know i have no right to ask for anithing, but please can someone review the third movie of madoka magica? I’m so sorry if I am insulting anyone by asking this but i enjoyed soooo much overcooled review on madoka that i just thought it was worth trying…

Im also sorry for my inglish i am actualy from Brazil so…

    • Highway says:

Thanks for commenting! You’re always welcome to ask for things, but I don’t know if anyone’s actually seen the 3rd Madoka movie yet.

And don’t be afraid to comment more. We all love to get comments.

      • Celestine says:

Oh yes I know that, the movie premieres in japan just in october 26 but as i look here on metanorn i saw only some few anime movies reviews. then i tought there was a chance no one would review that one and it might seem stupid but as a mahou shoujo fan it would fell a litle incomplete if my favorite anime site woudn’t review that movie, but again Im not damanding anithing. I was just asking

        • Highway says:

Movie reviews are a bit of a different animal, as it’s harder to schedule them. I know some folks are working on a review of the Toaru Majutsu no Index movie, and when the Madoka movie is available, I’d imagine someone will have something on it.

          • d-LaN says:

On an unrelated note, is the BD for the S;G movie out/subbed yet?

I wonder does any1 here on MTN is interested in reviewing it.

  5. Celestine says:

ok thank you, won’t ask more than that, also thank you for be so kind to me even when you guys are so busy. i love metanorn thre is alot of anime i just watched because it was here and had a pretty good time, heck i started watching shingeki no kiojijn because of metanorn and now i’m addicted, might give phi brain a chance now that rozen maiden is over thought

  6. Hoshi says:

    ~So I’m assuming…that I should start watching Phi Brain.

  7. Soimao says:

You guys should watch Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G, might give you an insight of what’s coming.

    • Irenesharda says:

I agree, for Fosh and the others who are thinking of blogging the new Gundam series. This series is closer to their Gunpla line then it is their standard Gundam line. I love Gundam to pieces, but even I couldn’t do the little kid stuff.

  8. Highway says:

For those interested, hashi has once again put together his calendar for anime with starting date and time. Looks like 8 shows I’m gonna watch air on Thursday, and a bunch more on Sunday. There may be some shows not on there, since I think he does it mostly for himself.

    • skylion says:

So…all 8 of the shows? Just like me.

      • Highway says:

Well, he lists 12 on Thursday, but I’m not watching Aikatsu, Naruto, or Pokemon. I haven’t heard of Koroshiya-san before, either, so I don’t know if it would be one I watch.

  9. Noc says:

Phi Brain is ALL I NEED. 90% of my excitement for the fall season is thanks to S3. 5% is thanks to Magi S2 (that number would be higher if I wasn’t worried about them potentially skipping important manga events), and the remaining 5% is attributed to the new shows I’m looking forward to:

Nagi no Asakura- the art looks lovely, I enjoyed other works written by the same person, and I find the story premise to be very intriguing. Plus did I mention the underwater scenery is beautiful? Hurray for seascapes~

Kyoukai no Kanata- I always err on the side of caution when it comes to KyoAni, but I’m hoping this will be more like Hyouka or FMP rather than…a lot of their other recent works. In any case, I enjoy supernatural themes so the more emphasis they put on that and the less moe they make it, the happier I’ll be.

Gingintsune- I like slice of life, and I love stories involving shrines, foxes, gods, demons, and pretty much any other spiritual entities. It’s a win-win no matter what they do with it.

Log Horizon- I couldn’t get past the first episode of SAO (not sure why, just didn’t catch my interest), but LH looks like it might be more to my tastes.

Tokyo Ravens- I remember reading a bit of the manga and found it fairly interesting, but due to the action scenes I think I may enjoy it more as an anime.

Naturally I’ll give everything a try at least once, but those are the ones I’m keeping an eye out for.

  10. Soliia says:

Oh god, I’m late. College has been killing me.
    Anyway, stuff I’m watching:

Kill la Kill – I’m looking forward to this the most. I don’t really know much about the plot or anything, but just look at the staff! I’ll watch anything by the people behind Gurren Lagann.

Yozakura Quartet looks interesting and I love the artstyle. I had wanted to watch the previous stuff before, but never got the chance. So I guess I’ll take this chance now.
I remember having Coppelion on my watch-list when the earthquake hit. I was pretty surprised when they announced they were restarting the project. Anyway, it still looks pretty good, so I’m definitely gonna watch.

I automatically watch any noitaminA show, which means I’m going to watch Galilei Donna and Samurai Flamenco.

Other than Uchouten Kazoku, every PA Works anime that I’ve watched has disappointed me in some way. And yet, I still get excited for them and inevitably put the on my ptw list, which is where Nagi no Asukara is going. It looks absolutely stunning, like everything from PA Works.

I’ll check out Pupa. More horror anime are always welcome in my book.

I’m also excited for Kyoukai no Kanata. Other than Tamako Market, I’ve really been liking what Kyoani has been putting out recently and a show that is different from their usual fare gets a must-watch from me.

I loved Toradora, so I’m definitely watching Golden Time. Plus, not a lot of anime are about characters in college.

The first season of Little Busters was fairly disappointing, but I’m pretty excited for Refrain. Because I know what happens. And man oh man. Some stuff happens and ahhhhahdskhsfadfasdasdf. I’ll just go ahead and prepare my box of tissues. Of course, it all depends on how well JC Staff adapts it, so I’ll cross my fingers and hope they don’t screw this one up.

That’s 10 shows and maybe 11 because I’m considering Arpeggio of Blue Steel. I’m still not quite used to this whole college thing, so it’s difficult for me to watch stuff, but I will find a way! Some of these shows *coughkilllakill* just look too good to pass up.

    • BlackBriar says:

Other than Uchouten Kazoku, every PA Works anime was disappointing? That’s strange to hear. Red Data Girl is understandable but what’s your opinion on Another?

      • Highway says:

I personally haven’t found any PA Works anime disappointing. But it’s true that their endings aren’t what a lot of people want to see. They rarely have conclusive finishes, usually they’re more open-ended “Life goes on” endings, which I think are perfectly acceptable for the stories they tell. Life does go on. I wasn’t even disappointed with the RDG ending, although I can understand people saying the story overall was rushed into one cour. But I think all the rest have been done well, even Hanasaku Iroha and Tari Tari. It may be more with Uchouten Kazoku that the story fits the ‘small portion of life’ pattern that PA Works animates better.

      • Soliia says:

It’s not that they are bad, I just end up overhyping them, which sets myself up for disappointment. Like, I still enjoy watching them and like them, but they never seem to quite live up to the expectations that I have for them. Hehe, so it’s really my own fault I end up disappointed.

I loved Another (and I especially loved Mei), but I felt it got repetitive and the ending felt kind of anti-climatic.
