Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou – 08

Serious things are happening this week!

Time for some more Genei on Metanorn! So last week I was guessing that our team of super tarot card girls would be split up, but I guess we will have to find out if that is true or not.

——————————————————

Insert your own “I am a Shadow… The true self.” reference for this episode. You could also make some joke about how the epitome of evil is working with a politician (I assume that the suited guy Cerebrum hangs out with is a politician), but anyways, on to the episode.

Goodbye friendship

Ginka doing her best attempt at a railgun pose.

Well the team was not split up, but this week revealed something major for our main characters. Apparently if you destroy the Daemonia copy of your own tarot card you run the risk of killing yourself or another card user? I know that sounds CRAZY but it has been happening all over the world and of course we all know that the hooded dude is causing it to happen. So who is the first girl to face their own card? Sadly Ginka was the first one on the team to run into the “evil” copy of the temperance card. I have to say that whole scene with Ginka facing off against evil-Ginka made me think of Persona 4 and certain episodes of PreCure with the main characters battling their dark personas in order to gain a new power or unlock a hidden power? I thought they were going for that with this episode but nope! I will miss Ginka because she was the fun girl of the bunch besides Akari; however I have a feeling that Akari will discover a way to save the girls from a similar fate? I just hope she doesn’t go all Madoka on us and become some kind of tarot card goddess.

Being magical is suffering

At least Ginka went out like a badass!

Once again, being on the ‘good’ side of this battle looks like it sucks a lot more than Cerebrum’s side. First they have to deal with watching/killing other people who become Daemonia and having the risk of becoming Daemonia themselves, and now they have to sacrifice themselves in order to stop the main anti-Tarot for good. …And if the anti-Tarot kills the Tarot user, I guess they don’t disappear but are absorbed. Having the ability to stop new Daemonia for good seems like a ‘win’, but there just is no winning for the girls. This all just seems like a depressingly difficult uphill battle. It’s interesting how the anti-Tarot Daemonia aren’t based on other people, but the girls themselves. I wonder if they’ll go into why that is (other than the whole “there are two sides to every Tarot card” thing). At least we have a kind of explanation as to why this is happening in this current time with Akari’s generation of Tarot users, since I assume that Cerebrum’s end goal is to absorb Akari or something (for some reason). Hey, maybe this is why Akari’s mother was so against her knowing about all of this. Anyways, if Akari was going to come up with some magical way to save the Daemonia, now would be the time.

Extra magical fun

I could go for some kentucky fried crow…

Yes please!

geneiiii (4)

I HAVE SO MUCH HATE FOR THIS CHARACTER!

Akari is going to kick your ass soon.

End thoughts

Damn it really sucks that Ginka had to die like that! I mean seriously what the hell? I thought she would figure out a way to make the evil-Ginka happy and prevent her own death, but I suppose this new development makes things interesting right? Personally I feel that Genei wo kakeru Taiyou and Fantasista dolls has been failing to keep people interested as the weeks roll on by or are you still enjoying both of them equally? Besides that random thought I thought it was really epic watching Ginka battle her evil clone! So who is going to be next to face off against their evil clone? I think Akari will be last to fight since she is the main character which leaves things up for Luna and Seira.

Well damn. I’m sorry to see Ginka go. On the plus side though, the evil hooded guy has a name now! To be honest, Ginka’s death wasn’t as hard hitting as  they probably wanted it to be. Ginka was easily the most expendable character out of the 4 mains and you knew her death was coming the moment anti-Ginka showed up. It would have been nice if they had lulled us into a false sense of security or something to make her death more of a shock. Or if they had given us a bit more to Ginka’s character, but I’m sure that would have taken more time and effort. I had this half thought out theory in my head about Akari being Cerebrum’s child (somehow) and that’s why she could hear the Daemonia voices, but who knows. So the next episode, it looks like Luna is in danger (maybe). Let’s see if they solve the love triangle issues between Akari, Seira and Luna before they knock another character off. …If Ginka is even really dead. She disappeared in a flash of light, so it’s not like there’s a body proving that she’s gone for good. …Not that I’m expecting something that cheery from this show (plus none of the other Daemonia had bodies left over either). Based on it’s track record she’s probably dead. I wonder if everyone will forget that she ever existed like the other Daemonia cases.

Well, thanks guys. You have managed to rub salt into my Ginka wounds.

Yes, she was totally bad as in the end…Because the blonde loli is just awesome that way. Wow. I cannot believe how pissed off I am….this is worse than Mami or Sayaka…

I wish they hadn’t left such a huge plot hole. I mean, come on, if you end up facing your card with your mates, then YOU bug out and let them finish it off. Heck, when they first encountered it, have Luna grab Ginka and phase out, then Akari and Seira finish it off easily. It seemed like they had to work extra hard to have a situation where Ginka ended up fighting the card on her own. And that was kinda dumb anyway. I know they were going for the “Big Damn Hero” kind of thing, but it all came off a bit idiotic because Ginka didn’t think.

I actually expected them to pull out The Sun card first and go right after Akari. I don’t think there’s any benefit to trying to break Akari’s spirit, is there? Or are they trying to make her into a super powerful Daemonia by killing off her friends one by one?

And last note: Congratulations to one of my favorite VA’s, Endou Aya, on her recent marriage! I hope it doesn’t mean that she quits her work, but I wish her and her spouse all happiness!

Congratulations to one of my favorite VA’s, Endou Aya, on her recent marriage!

Looks like that’s happening a lot lately. Senjougahara seiyuu Chiwa Saito recently got married herself.

    • Karakuri says:

I just assumed that with the anti-tarot, if anyone finishes off the main one (all of the others we’ve seen so far not being one), the corresponding girl disappears. So if Akari or any of the others had taken out anti-Ginka, Ginka would be gone anyways. Ginka took it on herself to save the others from having to ‘kill’ her. …Or at least that’s what I got out of the episode. Maybe I interpreted that wrong.

      • Highway says:

That was one way to interpret it, but it’s the kind of thing that I felt they should have been more clear on. And maybe it was a subtitle thing, but it seemed like there was the explicit “If *I* fight that card and win, we both get annihilated”. I took that to leave open the possibility that if, say, Seira fights and defeats The World when Etia isn’t there at all, then Etia would be fine.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it seems like they’re working too hard on the setup.

        • Karakuri says:

…Clearness would have definitely been nice. I went with my assumption since that seemed to be the kind of depressing that this show enjoys so much.

Or maybe another interpretation could be that only the -real- Tarot could defeat the corresponding anti-Tarot? I don’t even know. Maybe they’ll be more specific in the next episode. I assume that this is all going to happen again.

          • BlackBriar says:

That’s like having both sides cancelling each other out. No one wins and at the same no one loses except that here, you can lose your life.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Palpatine wins since he will be the only one standing if the card-anticard reactions continue. Unless he is a card himself. or LapSchro is actually a secret weapon.

  3. BlackBriar says:

Personally, I’m liking Genei wo kakeru Taiyou a lot more than Fantasista Doll. The former is keeping me in suspense and not pulling any punches in things that may become depressing while the latter is gradually dropping the ball storywise.

Man, was it painful to see this turn of events. Dark, depressing and unforgivingly brutal. Who’s been letting Urobutcher into this show? (It wouldn’t be surprising if he actually had a hand in this) This series is almost an equal to Shingeki no Kyojin where despair is concerned. It’s bad enough that you’re killing innocent people to protect others but now you’re also in danger of dying yourself if you fight your own clone. These girls just can’t catch a break. Ginka was a good character.

We finally know that hooded bastard’s name. Honestly, it makes me cringe seeing him after all that he’s done and no one has given him an ass kicking yet. Cerebrum deserves to be six feet under.

  4. Di Gi Kazune says:

No, if they defeated anti-Ginka, the Daemonia Tarot would still be able to regenerate. The same for the Elemental Tarot, defeat the user, and it will regenerate after a while. As long as either card set exists, there will be a user and the war continues. Matter-Antimatter annihilation pairs.

That said, the elemental Tarot users are doomed to lose if this is the only way to defeat the Daemonia permanently. Shotaloli-Palpatine will win as he will be the only one standing… “Exactly as I have forseen”. One more thing, the way he wants he is reminiscent of:
C: “Your mother never told you about your father…”
A: “She told me enough! She told me he abandoned us!”
    C: “I AM your father!”
A: “…… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (Do not want!)”
Which would make sense as he wants her 😛

I forsee an unsatisfactory conclusion. They have 4 episodes left and still a lot unresolved. The background setup is actually quite good but there is still a lot that needs explaining. Like who the fuck split the Aeon Tarot and to what purpose… How long have they been doing this? Why only young lolis? And who let Palpatine loose in this anime?

And seiyuu are expected to get married anyway. They are just normal people with a job. Until we perfect cloning, hanky panky is the only way to procreate. Once cloning is perfected, we can create a Grand Army of the Republic! *cackles secretly*

PS. Only realised this over the weekend. I call dibs that Sheryl and Grace are secretly working for Cerebrum! 😛

    • Highway says:

The problem with seiyuu marrying (or even openly dating anyone) is subsets of the otaku culture, where far too many people think that these performers must keep themselves ‘pure’ to not ruin the fantasies of wacked-out fans. So there is a ton of pressure on them to *not* live like normal people with a job.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Can we just say that AKB48 are just a bunch of horny teens/tweens? Remember that having an affair with Mr. P is a good way to work your way up the hierachy.

ACk… double posting, can please delete this one and the one just before this.

@kazune actully i dont think ginka died because how the counterpart was talking about “combining” so i think it possible ginka merge with her counterpart. and the second reason is becouse Temperance is about combining oposites as well
