Date a live 10-12 [END]

Loud Linkin park playing in the background

First off sorry for those who have been waiting for me to post these reviews! The last three episodes of Date a live have been lacking for me because technically we sat through three fanservice themed pool episodes but I kind of knew that was going to happen in this series; however there really is nothing wrong with that fact! So I hope you enjoy my final video review for this oddball anime series because it has been a fun ride so far and could I see another season of Date a live in the future? I can only answer that with a hell ya! WE NEED MORE DAMN EPISODES

Fun with Date a live

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

hmm well give only seen pics of & mention of this series yet wonder if could watch this as spring leftover to watch?

but yet notice Funi got it license with dub on way so i watch it now or wait for dub?
(give also same case samurai bride cause saw s1 in dub yet s2 shown seem likely s2 will be as well.)

    • Foshizzel says:

Good question but this got picked up for another season so I guess you could watch it later? To be honest if you can survive shows like Samurai Brides you can easily watch date a live! As for funimation dubs by all means go for it because I prefer their work over Sentai Filmworks dubs xD

      • BlackBriar says:

As for funimation dubs by all means go for it because I prefer their work over Sentai Filmworks dubs.

But apparently sometimes Sentai uses voice actors from Funimation for their dubs. Monica Rial and Greg Ayres, both veteran actors for Funimation and who played the two main leads in Deadman Wonderland, are playing the leads in Sentai’s english dub of Another.

        • Foshizzel says:

Yeah Funimation and Sentai uses a lot of the same actors like you said Greg Ayres and Monica Rial, but have you heard the Mawaru Penguindrum dub or the Tears of Tiara dub? THOSE ARE TERRIBLE; however I was surprised that they did manage to do good job with Inu x Boku SS and Mouretsu Pirates dubs.

I haven’t seen any trailers for Another and I think Sentai also got Tsuritama recently? Even though I don’t think I will be watching fishing bros again xD

          • Highway says:

Ugh, I thought the Mouretsu Pirates dub was terrible. Maybe the acting was ok, but boy the dialog was just awful. I don’t watch much in the way of dubs, but somehow ended up watching the first ep of Pirates, and not impressed at all.

            • skylion says:

Dubs are the tools of Satan.

            • Foshizzel says:

Hey now dubs are how I got into anime so they can’t all be evil! Sure from time to time there are terrible dubs, but once in a blue moon Funimation knocks it out of the park especially with any comedy or crazy ecchi series xD

            • skylion says:

Sure from time to time there dubs are terrible, but once in a blue moon Funimation knocks it out of the park especially with any comedy or crazy ecchi series xD

Joking, of course. I can’t help it. I’ve tried, but dubs just sound retched to my ears. And since I cannot really tell you why, I don’t expect anyone to agree. It just sounds off, disconnected, something is happening in the audio/visual zone of my brain that just squeals, “THIS IS WRONG!.” So as a result, I’ve not become accustomed to it. These could be great VA’s for all I know….

  2. skylion says:

I’m afraid this show met few of my expectations. But then it treated a normally casual affair, dating, to battleground levels, and never managed to make the serious affair, the battleground, all that pleasing.

As it was, the deep background involving Kotori, Shin-kun, and Oragami becoming explored left the show with a satisfying conclusion. And a to be continued….

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep lots of dating and lots of fighting! I kind of wish we had more fighting and less comedic moments, but all and all I had a lot of fun watching <3

I am afraid this series has way too many characters! I can predict s2 will have even more spirits falling for Shidou followed by Tohka getting angry and jealous...I kind of want another male character like Shidou who can seal the spirit powers? Who knows maybe MC-Kun will learn how to use the abilities he sealed? That would work like Kore wa zombie xD

  3. Liza says:

Kotori’s spirit armor is so pretty. *_*

Well I wasn’t expecting this to end with any real conclusion but at least Kotori’s arc ended in a nice little package.

I know there’s one more episode/OVA thing coming out but I really don’t think they are going to be able to finish up Kurumi’s arc in that one episode…

    • Foshizzel says:

Truth I like Kotori’s spirit armor along with Kurumi and Tohka <3

Agreed I kind of wanted to see Kurumi join Shidou's growing harem but with the news of the OVA I suppose they could do that? Then again with my experiences with OVA's in a harem anime they tend to be more about bath service? I bet it will be uncensored xD

  4. BlackBriar says:

The only monkey wrench in this whole run was episode 6 but as a whole, Date A Live was alright. It certainly got better when Kurumi arrived.

Best Spirit girls in this order: Kurumi, Tohka, Kotori, Origami, Yoshino.

Yeah, these last three were fanservice filled episodes but who could pass up that awesome swimsuit battle?

Even if things have calmed down, the people won’t be the same. Origami’s mentally broken so it’s likely she’ll still go after Kotori. I’m mean, the girl is strapped down to a hospital bed.

Whoever turned Kotori into a Spirit wanted to make sure they weren’t found out. What are the odds she wasn’t the only one afflicted like that over the past five years? It would be weird if she was.

I knew it wasn’t the end because thanks to my usual snooping around MAL and ANN, I knew there was an OVA on the way. Besides, since the conflict between Kurumi and Mana (especially since she has the shelf life of 10 years left) hasn’t been resolved, it’s enough grounds for another season.

Side note: It’s been on my mind for a while but I noticed Kotori is voiced by the same seiyuu as OreImo’s Kirino. She sounded so familiar.

    • BlackBriar says:

Give me a moment while I shoot down some of my own words in that before last paragraph. Date A Live is getting another season thanks to info released on ANN about an hour ago. God, I love snooping around so much! 😛

      • Highway says:

I certainly don’t trust an AIC studio with a ‘confirmed second season’ end card. I’m still waiting for that second season of Nyan Koi…

        • BlackBriar says:

Strange. Because hearing rumors on a forum is one thing but having announced on a reliable official anime supporting site should be enough proof as it is unless the studio says otherwise. Like in 2011 in a forum, there were rumors that the manga Bloody Cross was to be animated and up to now, nothing of significance has popped up. The only recent news I got was that the manga was licensed by Yen Press.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahhh yeah episode six did mess up things for the overall flow of the series and that was roughly at the point when I thought about dropping this until Kurumi arrived~

Mine would be Tohka, Kurumi, Kotori, Yoshino and Origami

Kurumi vs Kotori works I suppose they need a round two to settle things between them? My money is on Kotori kicking Kurumi’s ass AGAIN.

Possibly! If anything that mysterious “person” probably had a hand in turning Yoshino, Kurumi and Tohka into spirits as well? I could SEE that playing out.

Ooooooh right! I forgot about Mana…I guess the OVA could be her backstory with Kurumi? Personally I think it will be a bath themed mini episode with lots of random uncensored topless shots xD

Yeah that is Ayana Taketatsu! I always know her as Azu-nyan from K-On but she does voice a lot of little sister characters like in Phi Brain s2, Sword Art Online even though she is Kirito’s cousin and also this season she stars in Zettai Bouei Leviatha as Jormungadr! So yeah sisters or cousins or oddball dragon girls for her.

      YEPP! ANOTHER SEASON! WOOOOOOOOOO xD

    • Liza says:

0_o. Wow…ummm, we are getting some interesting spirits next season. If I didn’t know any better that last one looked like something out of Qwaser.

      • Foshizzel says:

I know right? But hey twins for the win!

        • BlackBriar says:

Those two in Qwaser were big time masochists. I wonder if the same characteristics will apply to these two girls.

          • Foshizzel says:

I never got into Qwaser but I have heard several stories about the masochist characters…

            • skylion says:

Fosh, you need to start diggin the Qwasar. Do not watch S2. Seriously, it is FAIL.

            • BlackBriar says:

If you want all out action, violence and outrageous fanservice, then check out Seikon no Qwaser.

      • D-LaN says:

Is Qwaser tht show with tits sucking?

Twincest in DAL? Sure, why not 😛

        • BlackBriar says:

Is Qwaser tht show with tits sucking?

Yes. Seikon no Qwaser. It is notable for its violence, fanservice, and the use of breast milk as a central plot device (Mainly using breast milk as a source of power for the Qwasers). Personally, I find it was a perfect and bold excuse to tread dangerously into hentai territory and come out unscathed with a serious story.

          • skylion says:

…and it has a LOLi character that you and I cannot squabble over…

            • BlackBriar says:

Not really a loss for me. I only specialize in a certain kind of loli.

        • skylion says:

Yes. It is totally a show about tit sucking. Now there are some superpower elements to it, some politics, some angst, but yeah, it’s most about tit sucking.

          And Ekaterina….

          • BlackBriar says:

Especially Ekaterina, the queen sadist of the anime and her masochistic Maria pet Hana (Played by Yoko Hikasa).

            • skylion says:

Yes, at times I imagined Hana as Mio (from K-ON), just to add some extra juice to the show. (same VA).

        • Highway says:

Yeah, I haven’t given Qwaser a try, mainly because the idea reminds me too much of Manyuu Hikenchou (although sucking is different from ‘lopping off’).

          • skylion says:

I tried to watch the first episode of this show, but just could not do it. Just from that, maybe, ten minute impression, I would have to say that SnQ is quite a different animal.

Things I enjoyed: Despite the Soma Sucking premise, all of the characters become very well developed (pardon the pun) as the series progresses. Yes, there are fierce ecchi elements, but equally fierce moments of balance in plot development.
The powers. I really enjoyed how they displayed the various elements and how the characters matched up to them; with some points of development given to the “blink and you miss it elements” along that huge radioactive part of the Periodic Table. Yes, they are useless, but one of those characters actually saves the plot somewhat. And understand, the process to develop these powers in not cheap, and costs lives. Can you imagine going for something like Iron, or Copper, or Sodium, and end up with Californium?
Passionate Squall, the ED1. Enough said.

          • skylion says:

Ah, HWY, Spammy doesn’t want me to give you my Qwaser love…

            • BlackBriar says:

Be careful how you say that. Remember: Fujoshis are lurking about. 😉

            • skylion says:

I am to please, even if it is unintentional….

      • Foshizzel says:

Two girls for the price of one? Double date time for Shidou in season two and I guess they totally into some S and M stuff…damn…

        • BlackBriar says:

A double date shouldn’t be a problem. I mean, after all, he survived a triple date with three hot girls.

          • Foshizzel says:

Shidou survived a date with Kurumi enough said ahahaha

            • BlackBriar says:

A feat in of itself. He was lucky she took her time before finally deciding to eat him.

        • d-LaN says:

Haha its a double date + reverse date frm the twins side scc to wht I read in the cover blurb.

    • Foshizzel says:

I love the comments on Metanorn! They always find things for us to talk about so thanks D-Lan you are awesome buddy!

I see from those new screencaps we ARE getting a lot of new characters and I wonder who that white haired guy is? Possibly Tobi’s older brother or the one who gave that fire spirit power to Kotori?

      • Liza says:

Wait. There are men in this show other than Shido/mission control!? 0_0 I don’t know if I can handle this! What is Date A Live coming to!?

        • Foshizzel says:

I have no idea just throwing out random thoughts haha

        • d-LaN says:

Tonomachi? Shido friend with the 2D girlfriend?

          • BlackBriar says:

With him always sticking to that 2D girlfriend, I see no hope for him, especially when Kurumi shot him down without hesitation.

            • D-LaN says:

True. He too deep in the forever alone to be saved…. At least no murderous GF for him XD

      • d-LaN says:

        Spoiler tagged just in case.

  5. Highway says:

I liked this show a lot more than I thought I would before the season. And most of that is because Tohka showed up early and stuck around. I really liked the style of harem lead that Shido was, I really liked how the girls all dealt with being in his harem, even though the actual contenders are limited pretty much to Tohka and Origami.

My order for girls hasn’t changed at all:

    1. Tohka
    big distance
    2. Origami
    3. Yoshino
    4. Kotori
    5. Kurumi

I really didn’t like Kurumi’s character much, and wasn’t really a huge fan of what they did with her.

    • skylion says:

The Kusumi arc was good to get the Kotori-Origami plot developed. But, and this is coming from the Leik a LOLi, the Yoshino arc was quite useless, and made from Otaku bait.

The story would have worked quite well with the Shido-Kotori-Origami characters, with Kusumi acting as catalyst. All the rest were kinda tired. Yeah, I am not a Tohka fan, at all.

I’m not confident for an S2. With the resolution that Shido has his heart set on Tohka, what value is other Spirits?

This show had plenty of good material to work on, but wasted in on a harem plot that doesn’t serve the MC.

Will Neptunia be this creators saving grace?

      • Highway says:

The *only* thing I didn’t like about Tohka was the deformed drawing of her running in the ED. For me, everything else was good. 🙂

I really felt the ‘harem’ part was kind of the side story, and they did really well keeping it the side story, even to the point of having all the girls understand what was going on. It took Tohka longer than Yoshino, but she did understand in the end. And by keeping them around, it allowed for what we saw at the end, where there was actually power that could help Shido.

      • d-LaN says:

Neptunia only share the same artist…..

Also you might want to look out for the Director Cut ver which restore the scenes removed frm the TV broadcast.

  6. Sumairii says:

For me, this show actually exceeded my expectations. Which is to say, they were very low to begin with. But I thought DAL did manage to deliver a very fun harem romp. From what I understand of others’ comments, it seems the main dissatisfaction stems from the harem focus as opposed to a singular focus on the favorite girl of the comment writer in question. DAL is apologetically a harem show through and through though, so I’d say we got what exactly what we should have expected.

The only obvious problem with the show is things were left very much unresolved, and that might be a bad thing if a sequel were uncertain. Luckily, it’s pretty much confirmed that we will be getting more DAL though, so I am willing to let this lack of closure pass.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah p much how I feel Sumairii! Since this is harem anime most of us already know how these types of shows work out and like always everyone has their own “best girl” to follow.

Yeah sad but true! Most of these girls will never have a true ending with the MC because there are A LOT of girls for him to get with…
