Bathtime and Pantsu Thieves dominated this episode of Samurai Brides, and I’d imagine as far as everyone watching was concerned, that was just fine for a fanservice episode. Not a lot of story progress happened, but as you can see from Jrow’s gif there, there was a lot of PLOT moving. I’m not so sure about the long-term aspects of having a mascot character in Sasuke, nor about the silliness of that monkey mascot becoming a Master Samurai (does this dilute Muneakira’s General powers, or does it get amplified the more he makes?), but I’m kind of glad that after the preview from last week where Hanzou and Matabei were wondering who would be the new Master Samurai, it wasn’t either of them. I think they are better off not messing with that chemistry where both of them are more dedicated to Sen and Yukimura.
In the plot points that actually happened, while bathing they did see that Juubei’s contract mark is still there, so presumably the contract hasn’t been broken and Yagyuu Juubei could be resummoned. Meanwhile, the Dark Samurai are kind of regretting the one month time frame they gave, cause now it means they have to basically hang out for a month. But I’m wondering how much Miyamoto will be co-opted by continually going to the Meido-cafe. I’m imagining that will become a point of contention between the Dark Samurai. But with Sasuke helping at the cafe and bringing in the conveniently increased traffic, hopefully the money woes will stop being a plot point.

Kazuya doesn’t just get the girls…
Misumi becomes a factor.
So who was wondering if this show should be in MetaFap? After this week, I don’t think anyone will argue it anymore. Since it looks that we’re just not going to have time for all the girls, this episode once again shone on Niimi, Sakura, and Misumi, and added Muroto, the student council president, into the mix. Misumi, who was crying at Niimi’s desk at the end of the first episode as Kazuya found her, admits that she wishes she could be more like Niimi, and thought maybe sitting at her desk would help, but just made her cry. And thus were all the hopes for a yuri leg of a love triangle dashed! But it was a nice moment between Kazuya and Misumi. The interaction with Muroto was a lot more antagonistic, as Kazuya continually ran afoul of school rules, and almost crashed into her again (like in the first episode), earning him a lecture. Then he got a fruit drink from his sister, Kano… and earned another lecture. But later, he catches her sneaking into school over the wall, and gets a couple pictures of her in a compromising position.

Sakura shows up as she’s warning Kazuya off of the rhythmic gymnastics practice, where the Shashin-bu members have been banned (big surprise), but Sakura’s going to see if she can get special clearance for Kazuya, cause she thinks he won’t take pictures from ’embarrassing angles’. It’d be good if he never shows her the pics from his interaction with Niimi, then, who stops Kazuya while in her swimsuit, and asks him to take gravure shots of her! Given that Niimi has been named Miss Photogenic, I have a feeling those pictures are going to end up being made public, as much as she doesn’t want them to (Highway’s PSA Time: If you don’t want pictures of you to become public, don’t get the pictures taken, kids!). I kinda thought that Niimi was pushing it pretty far asking him, especially when she said “I want you to take pictures of me… to look at me!” She’s definitely in the early lead for main girl of the show.
We also had some Shashin-bu antics, as Itta and Takashi were sneaking pictures of Niimi, and Yuuko was hanging around the outside of Kazuya and Niimi’s pool shoot. And biggest comedy moment goes to Itta who has decided he’s going to marry Kazuya’s imouto! But overall, it was good that we got more attention on a few girls this episode, rather than trying to keep everyone involved in every episode. Hopefully we’ll get more girls introduced better throughout the show, but at this point it really seems like the three front-runners are Niimi, Muroto, and Sakura.

The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat – 01

Don’t know about you, but flat chests get a thumbs up from me.
So the first episode of the latest ecchi light novel adaptation by JC Staff is here, and it sure was a ecchi light novel adaptation by JC Staff. We’ve got the lovably perverted protagonist Youto, who has a problem with his inability to be honest about his perversions but not with those perversions themselves. Already after 1 episode, we have 3 future harem members set up, starting with track team president Tsukushi, then the other main character and Youto’s foil Tsukiko, then the verbally abusive local “ojou-sama” Azusa. Yuki Kaji is channeling Hiro Shimono (of BakaTest, KamiNomi fame, among many others) with Youto here, and it works. The single minded pervert role fits him much better than the badass king one. This show got a lot of hype for its character designer Kantoku, and his influences show in all the girls. Unfortunately, JC Staff’s influence is strong as well. The high contrast and color depth of his illustrations don’t survive the transition to anime, leaving his characters missing that je ne sais qua that make them so visually appealing. Well, Tsukiko’s still a cutie with mesmerizing sharp eyes.
The story is going over some well worn territory with the main characters getting granted wishes they now realize they didn’t want and now having to find others to dump them on. With Azusa the first target, I’m almost getting a KamiNomi vibe, except that Youto somehow has a greater challenge ahead of him than Keima ever did thanks to his wonderful verbal beat down of her flat chest. This cat-induced foot-in-mouth disease is a great problem for the series protagonist to have (for our benefit, anyway). Maybe I should set my expectations higher, but the fact that things have been set into motion with an actual goal and progress toward it makes me happy. And we’ve still got Tsukiko’s half of the problem to deal with. I was also amused by what little physical comedy there was, such as Youto chasing Tsukiko in circles around the hill. I’m definitely hoping to see more of that – if it can hit BakaTest levels of energy and silliness, we’ll have a winner.
More super deformed gags might be nice, too.

Good set of reviews, Team. Sorry, I skipped Photo Kano as that show just isn’t my cup o’ lap-sang susong.
I just got finished watching all of Samurai Girls today, and went right into S2 of Brides. Very much enjoying this show, they’ve got all the parts pretty much nailed down. Solid comedy, drama, action, ecchi, and general mischief in the bag.
I really want my own Master Monkey Samurai!
I don’t think this show is the type to go out of it’s comfort zone. If it worked last series, they will go for it this series. So Team Evil may just become Team Ally to save Great Japan from danger.
As per Juuybei’s contract. It may be of a different sort. I only think Moe-Juuuybei came back, and not her other kick-ass personality.

I think you’re right about Team Evil becoming Team Other Guys, a la Senran Kagura and even the first season of Hyakka Ryouran. If they’re *not* the reincarnation of Amakusa, then they’ve got just as much reason to fight Amakusa when he shows up.
I gotta say, I don’t miss Gisen at all. I didn’t care for that character one bit. Could use more Charles d’Artagnian, tho.
And it’s a shame you’re not watching Photo Kano. That show’s all in my wheelhouse and up in my grill…

Re: Wheelhouse. Water is such a interesting gift, Highway. For some it turns, for other’s it lies in a pool. But this is good stuff, as our various interests and cups o’ tea makes us such a diverse and interesting lot.

I’ve been champing at the bit for this show since it was announced. It is, perhaps, the only current manga I am following in a trend of me not following source materials at all. Furthermore, this season seems to lack a great deal of my precious doki-doki moe progams, so this was a breath of fresh air.
Great debut, it got nearly everything right for an adaption. I didn’t like how the Prince’s confession happened in an outside hallway, as it seems more awkward then him “pawing” Azusa in the lunchroom as she was seated. But props for getting the exact feeling down.
I’m a huge fan of JC, with Toradora and now Sakurasou climbing to my top fave shows; and I think they’ve done a good gob of capturing the manga’s pacing and mood. Yeah, the colors, textures, and lighting are not up to the Kantoku standard, but the manga fell short as well. I can hardly blame anyone as that guy is the Moe/LOLi Master.

Henneko~ I don’t really think Henneko should be in the MetaFap section since it’s not really ecchi, but then again I didn’t really agree that Sakurasou was Fap material either (it did have some ecchi scenes though, not enough to make it ecchi imo thoguh) But then again, there is one super SMEXY FANSERVICE scene I’m aware of.
Anywho, WOOP WOOP Henneko~ Pacing is going abit fast imo (same deal with DAL), (Ah, you guys might have to move DAL to Fap section if they animate the upcoming fanservice…COUGHCOUGH if my memory serves me right, haven’t read it in a month or so) but the gags are definitely one thing that should keep people watching this XD animations fit so well!

The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat – 01: Moral of the episode? “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone”. It’s good to have Yuki Kaji back playing a perverted lead though, in my opinion, he’s not as unhinged in his perversion as Issei Hyoudou. Youto seems to be holding his share back. Yukari Tamura deserves a mention because she’s fierce playing Tsukiko’s sister Tsukushi. I actually started to quake with fear listening to her voice as she was repremanding Youto.

Yukari Tamura is definitely great, as always. Her singing the OP and everything, I’m reminded of what I consider to be an ecchi masterpiece, B Gata H Kei. We won’t be treated to her as the main character this time, but Yuki Kaji is certainly capable of delivering. And I’m curious about Yui Ogura.

B Gata H Kei is one of those shows I wanted to like, but Yamada was so horrible, I just couldn’t like it very much. And I like the 60’s period composition of the songs, and listen to them, but try not to focus on Yukarin’s voice too much for them.
The C3 OP song that she sang, tho, that someone linked at the start of last season, I love her singing in that.

Photo Kano – 02: With the minimum of fanservice-y shots, Photo Kano wins an elegible spot here. Ah, the irony of those who always “uphold the rules”. The regulators are always the violators and Muroto has made herself the biggest hypocrite yet. She’s lucky she got off easy with such an easy going guy like Kazuya.
The big joke was Itta telling Kazuya he plans to marry his sister, even calling “Onii-sama” before anything’s decided. As if anything like that’s going to happen without some kind of confrontation.
Rather than fulfilling the erotic ambitions of his club, I see Kazuya making more of an intimate bond with the girls he meets by taking photos of them. I don’t sense anything raunchy in the entire sequence. It felt kind of peaceful and the same is going to happen with Muroto thanks to the previews.

There’s definitely room in the definition of ‘ero’ for pictures taken with 1)taste and 2)tact. We are seeing the two sides of the line, and I also think intent is a huge part of it. I mean, it’s hard to take pictures of a Rhythmic Gymnast in action without it being from a ‘weird angle’.
Muroto was simply trying to follow the most important rule: Don’t get caught. Then she went for the second most important rule: Don’t let it stick. That was rather implausible tho. I wouldn’t want to jump down 10 feet to get in. Just mark me as late.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Bride – 02: The OP is introduced but frankly, it’s nowhere near as catchy as last season’s which is a big letdown for me. Too bad it will remain like this for the rest of the series.
The bath scene was one for the anime history books and having uncensored made it even better. If only we could have added Highschool of the Dead’s Saeko then it would have been a party.
What the hell was I watching almost halfway through?! Sniffing underwear while it’s still on the person to get a scent?! And even a monkey can become a master samurai. Now I’ve seen everything. With Sasuke bringing in the customers, it’s safe to say their financial problems have officially died.
Regarding Juubei. Like Muneakira’s abilities, Juubei’s other personality may have been sealed away instead of disappearing completely at the end of last season. Hence the master samurai crest on her chest being faded.
