I’m seeing parallels in the robot falling on Junna when she was younger, but surviving (if not her relationship with her grandfather suffering), and this event with Subaru. He comes out alive, but something very dramatic will happen.

There are parallels but no guarentee of the same outcome. The Robotics club robot is more than three times the size and weight of the one that fell on Junna. Not to mention Subaru was in a state of shock. But seeing he’s a main character, the script will most likely have him survive.

The episode was great and had really made me feel surprised and sad at the end when Mizuka feel down. Strangely enough though, I did not feel anguish when Subaru was about to crushed by the robot because it seemed that the robot took a long time to fall down, and he just stood there. Then for Mizuka, couldn’t Yashio just turn her around (I think he’s strong enough). But nevertheless, a great episode.
This show really pumps me up!

I’m thinking the same thing. That Kagome-Kagome theme must have been coded. That music playing at all is a rare occurance and from what we’ve seen in the earlier episodes, it always proceeds some unpleasant event.

Unlike C;H or S;G, there’s no power hax this time the main character to use to save the lives of his friends. Maybe now Kai will be more proactive in trying to defeat the Committee of 300 which by the way exists in the real world.

Yeah, that was my thought when I first watched, “Damn, Frau looking good”. But then she was looking good a few episodes ago. And that was her low point. Some people. Look hot even when cold.

What a week. Both Robotics ;Notes and Psycho-Pass episodes ending on epic cliffhangers. Itâs a shock that R;N has gone from nearly being carefree to nail biting tension. The title for this episode was an understatement. It had Aki written all over it.
Iâm happy to see Akiâs dream finally coming to pass and her being so satisfied. But metaphorically, they must have felt a slap to the face believing they were the only ones finding a limited amount of something as rare as a monopole only to find out theyâre becoming an everyday thing. The multiple monopole appearances must be a product of the solar flares being more active. Something didnât feel right when they suddenly had to move after reaching success because of rockets. Thatâs hard to process for me.
The highlights were the (assumed) deaths. âAnotherâ vibes suddenly shot up the moment Kai was getting the final reports and the Robotics club testing out their machine for flaws. The entire atmosphere just turned grim and youâre thinking âOh man, someone is going to die. I can feel itâ. Subaru, thereâs hope heâs still alive and maybe he got off with a scratch or a broken arm. As if that wasnât eerie enough, here comes the Kagome-Kagome theme as soon as Mizuka steps in to stop Kai from digging into something heâs told to stay away from. And insult to injury, Kai pays for ignoring the warning by being forced to watch Mizuka fall off the cliff. I strongly believe the Kagome-Kagome theme is a coded robotics override system.

No, Kagome Kagome was just the “Haha, we’re the 300 doing something!” announcement. The modem audio signal after that was what programmed Mizuka’s robotic legs to walk her over the cliff. I’m pretty sure that everyone was watching that thinking that Kai should figure out a different way to stop her! Trip her, tackle her from the side, smash the controls with something, anything! But he couldn’t
I don’t think Mizuka’s death is apparent, that’s about as certain a death as you’re going to get in anime. But Subaru will get saved, I’m guessing Junna getting the robot’s arms out to prop it up or something. I don’t think that this will deter Kai, because he’s not the type to be deterred. He hasn’t listened to anyone else the whole time, why start now?

Yeah, the weird audio signal definitely programmed Misa’s legs. And considering SHE of all people accepted the call, probably quite a few more people have had the same issue, maybe with different results. It was probably another mass call, somewhat as a reminder to us that this group is still around doing things.

I don’t think it was a mass call. I think it was targeted, at Mizuka, who was standing right there, talking to Kai, in order to teach Kai a lesson: Don’t mess with things that people tell you not to mess with.

Oh, and echoing your ‘What a week’ comment: I watched R;N, Psycho-Pass, and then Shin Sekai Yori within about 18 hours. That may have been the most murderiffic stretch of anime I’ve ever watched. When the closing of one of Little Busters more emotional drama arcs is a step UP in happiness, that’s been some downer shows you’re watching.

Lots of bad judgement without thinking of consequences this week. And of course that leads to massive problems and all sorts of plot.
My guess is that the next episode will have Subaru’s back story, no matter what happens to him. I’m expecting a hospital scene although, he could be totally fine. Either way his dad will probably hear about it. And that will trigger some kind of back story.
My question for the club is: why did you guys think it was smart to walk the robot around in strong wind?
As for Mizuka and the 7th report, I feel bad for Mizuka, she really had it rough at the end there, giving up and going over the cliff. She was just trying to protect Kai from whatever that report contains. It’s probably a key to a lot of things that are still mysterious. But still, she should have been cautious accepting that call. It’s a creepy song, an unknown number, no way that’s really in good judgement to accept. But oh well, her part in the story is over unless there are a few things to tie up with a funeral or whatever. It’s done now.

The scene with Mizuka was even more frustrating than Subaru’s. That exoskeleton clearly doesn’t have any thrust capabilities, so once you remove its access from the ground, it can’t move. Which means Kai could have saved her simply by picking her up off the ground. Of course, a grown woman + exoskeleton is likely to weigh quite a bit, and the flailing of the exoskeleton would make it even more difficult. But when someone’s life is on the line, you push yourself to your limits and use anything available to you – for instance, Kai could have held up Mizuka’s torso while she supported her weight with her hands. It wouldn’t have been a permanent solution given how exhausting it would be, but maybe they could’ve gotten her to a car or some other vehicle/enclosed space in that time.
Also, there’s no emergency safety release on those exoskeletons? Wasn’t the manufacturer sued once already for its flaws? You’d think that they would’ve been mandated to add some sort of foolproof escape mechanism. Maybe Robotics;Notes takes place in the same universe as SAO where regulatory agencies just let a company release a video game console that can fry the user’s brains.

When a writer is finished with you, you are so only so much toast. Assuming, of course, you’re the writer’s character.
Was the disclosure about the safety issues a cover. Admit to something that gets all the attention, and cover up anything deeper. It’s a stretch, but that way they can hide all sorts of code, backdoors, control mechanisms, etc.
C’mon people, embrace open source coding!
But, yeah, it is a bunch to have to take it, happening so quickly. I just let the drama unravel itself and move on.

Yeah, I agree: If they’re going to get rid of you, they’re going to get rid of you. And it’s easy for us to realize what’s going on, when we’ve got dramatic music cues and backstory and close up shots. But the characters don’t have any of that, they’re just trying to figure stuff out as it happens.

Safety features included after a scandal on the products of that company wouldn’t have had any effect on the almost a decade old pre-production unit that Misaki gave Mizuka. I’m pretty certain that because Mizuka knew Kimijima Kou, she was given those as a hedge against future ‘issues’.
I don’t quite get why the latch wouldn’t come apart, I would personally think it’s mechanical, but it could have been some sort of other latch.

If they can control the exo from a distance, then I am sure they would thing of something to keep it from being removed that instantly. It’s still a bit of a dodge thou. If they wanted to eliminate her thru using her exo, then how many ways could they do it? Walk her into a huge fridge in her nonviolence store and leave here there? Walk her into traffic? Nope, wait until she is near a cliff right next to the guy you want to scare to death, which is just where the newest Report just happens to be.

Unless the chain of causation went like this: They know where the Kimijima Reports are > They know that Kai is getting the 7th one > They want him to stop > They get Mizuka again to ask him to stop, and tell her where he is > Puts Mizuka and her trap in the right place at the right time.
Is it a stretch? Sure. But the whole 300 is a stretch, along with their stupid plan.

Kimijima designed the reports in a way that the Committee won’t even know there are some documents ready to expose their doomsday plan(in his own words), let alone knowing their locations. The only one that has all these knowledges is the reports’ creator, Kimijima himself. Let’s think it this way. Kai was about to retrieve the final report. Mizuka tried to stop him. Logically, Mizuka was killed for her interference of the aquisition of Report No.7. And there’s some omitted entries in Report No.6 that(MINOR SPOILER WARNING READ AT YOUR OWN RISK)Show ▼

Just a reminder about Toshiyuki’s statement on TV: he said that the safety issue would be responded on court rather than now. Seems like bullshit to me but they are either buying time in explaining their robots going berserk or covering up a big hack from an external source.

The point is that the HUG is clearly being hacked. Some of the HUG “malfunctioning” incidents are mentioned in the VN, in one case the HUG killed its owner and rescuer by performing some dangerous, inhuman gymnastics, probably breaking some limbs or necks. So if you own a HUG and also being targeted, there will be no escape. Even if Kai manages to take that HUG off Mizuka, it can still kick them to death with its sheer force. Yes, it is said that these HUGs can make a disabled to easily run a 100m world record. And there’s a variety called the HUG Spark for robotics fighting tournaments. Creepy stuff.
And about all these HUG incidents, why are there no safety measures for a renowned company like Exoskeleton, remember that it is part of the Committee of 300, as indicated in one of Kimijima’s report. It’s conspiracy!

The odd thing about the 7th Kimijima report, that you guys kind of touched on, was that when Kai first looked at the torii, there was nothing there, but when he looked away and looked back, it was. I wonder if we’d seen that behavior before, that a report was not there at first and then was on a second look (I seem to recall there was). As for flags, there were no additional flags for report 7, just that you got all 6 reports before it and found where it was.
But the ‘not there / there’ behavior might be something worth looking into (although they don’t make a big enough deal out of it for us to really pay attention to it).

Hmm, if I’m getting really conspiracy-y, Mizuka presumably walked up between the time he panned over the torii not seeing it, and panned back to see it. So maybe it was hidden by something until Mizuka walked up. Maybe the 300 could mask it until their sacrificial lamb was in place?

Also, I don’t believe that Kai actually activated the report before the rest of the action happened. So was it to make him forget about it? To scare him off of it? I don’t think that either one will happen, I think that he’ll get the report and read it.
