Honestly, I can’t even remember what episode four is about because it was not memorable at all. Something about Hero not not being back yet even though it’s six months already? Obviously it’s because of the Hero’s insecurity when it comes to his relationship with the Demon King. Not seeing the Demon King for six months is not a good way to solve the relationship problem though. Poor Demon King, thank goodness she’s really faithful to Hero because anybody would’ve jumped on any character voiced by Kamiyan. Though of course, how Demon King didn’t turn down Merchant’s proposal is somehow suspicious… Probably the Kamiyan charm.
Anyhow, the most interesting part of this episode has got to be the negotiation between Crimson Scholar and Merchant, but it also didn’t bring out the usual Maoyuu charm. No, it’s not as if the negotiation is useless. Through the negotiation, the Demon King managed to influence one of the imporant members of the Alliance through her charm and intelligence, and her new method is going to be used because of that. Demon King is definitely one step closer to her dream of seeing something beyond the hill. However, I’m starting to wonder what Demon King’s actual goal is. The whole hill thing is starting to sound ambiguous to me. I can’t help but seeing some hidden agenda behind Demon King’s action. Just what is the true goal? I hope some secret will be revealed soon, because Maoyuu is starting to be dull for me now. I don’t know why, it just doesn’t feel the same as before. It’s as if something is missing from episode four. I hope this feeling of mine is gone by episode five.

Yuuko-“What do you mean I can’t be shipped with anyone?”
Whoaaa Sorata actually half passed! He did pretty well his second time around, but yet we still have some drama with Nanami and Mashiro struggling with their feelings. Of course, Mashiro has no idea what her feelings are, but you can definitely tell that she’s jealous on some level. It’s kind of hard watching her be petty, even though it’s really not her fault because she has no idea how to deal with her emotions. Well, hopefully she can get herself figured out soon (preferably around Valentines Day). Now on to the other leading lady, she’s a bit better put together with figuring out her own emotions, but she seems to be struggling just as much as Mashiro. Nanami’s friends kind of annoyed me this episode with their “he’s helping you, so he MUST like you!” assumptions. Really, they shouldn’t be egging Nanami on like that when they don’t know the entire situation. It’s going to be harder if/when what they say isn’t true. And who knows what happened to the guy who confessed to her during the cultural festival. In any case, I can’t see Valentine’s Day going smoothly since there’s still an entire half a season left. I don’t see them solving the character’s problems anytime soon since there is that rather long amount of time left. …All I can say is dear lord, Sorata is dense.

On this episode the giant boob ninjas go to the beach…well kind of…I mean they did travel to a mysterious island for training, but do these girls even train? For the most part they spent their time cleaning and gathering food. Wait never mind we learned a valuable lesson this week, the less clothing you wear as a ninja the more power you gain? So what happens if they were to fight naked? Can you imagine how powerful they would become?! While that was an odd lesson we finally saw the other evil ninja girls appear! Which introduced us to Hikage and Mirai for the first time, but I have to say Mirai was far more entertaining to watch because she summoned a TINY JET from her dress and rode it to escape? WHAT IN THE? Yes that moment made me laugh and face-palm at the same time and I think I have officially found my favorite Senran Kagura character with the evil gothic Lolita! She is just crazy and I like crazy. Speaking of crazy does anyone else love that the evil team gets their own ending video and song? I think I will cheer for the evil team…just kidding! But their cooking ending was fun.

Vividred Operation – 04

Himawari brings her bust to the party
Super Himawari could be the older sister of a famous headless magical girl.
Vividred Operation keeps following the predictable new-episode-new-character formula without deviation, but it manages to stay interesting with its above average action scenes. Returning the focus to aerial combat from martial arts in the previous episode was very welcome. There wasn’t anything truly eye popping, but all the fights were pretty and shot very well. I noticed that the animation of Akane with the boomerang weapon in the opening was used, and I hope it isn’t lazily used again like Seri’s entrance in K. I also enjoyed the brief softball scene, even with those tight shorts (even Haruhi and Taisho Baseball Girls inexplicably featured short shorts or skirts, and I can’t really blame this show for wanting to top them). Akane doesn’t even know how to properly hold a bat, yet she was able to homer off of Green with ease. I love that lackadaisical but athletically gifted character.
The new girl, Yellow (Himawari), seems to be the total opposite of her, physically unimpressive like Aoi, but with genius level intelligence and mental adaptability. Her whole back story is fairly mysterious – after all, why did she have an exemption to attend school from home? She had no obvious health issues. Maybe she hacked into some school computers. Just like with Green, Yellow felt like a very archetypal character and her entrance into the magical girl crew felt too easy, but I’m willing to let those go. Though more Docking is always good, it’s a shame that Akane keeps being the main girl, since there are plenty of other combinations I’d like to see. Maybe we’ll get a new face in a Vivid girl if Akane isn’t involved or is the kisser instead of the kissee. I’m sure everyone noticed the Mami Tomoe resemblance of Vivid Yellow, who had a similar costume design and trademark princess curls, not to mention her Tiro Finale-like Final Operation. I think that’s the first real Madoka influence in the show, and the gun in Black’s (though I prefer to think of her as Purple) hand in the next episode preview obviously has me thinking of Homura. Besides that, the show continues to show the Gainax influences with the Evangelion-like futuristic urban planning and EMARGENCY EMERGENCY signs and the Diebuster-like flying mecha/magical girl fighting. I still want to see Vividred Operation try something new, but if it can keep successfully copying from the best like in this episode, it’s going to turn out alright.
Also, did the concept of risk management die out in this world? During the construction of the Manifestor Engine, did no one point out that allowing there to be single point of failure in the delivery of 95% of the world’s energy was a really stupid idea? Even without the unexpected Alone attacks, such a critical process needs contingencies and redundancies. Did no one learn anything from Tohoku?

Sakurasou: A “half-pass” is probably the best thing that could happen for Sorata. Not “best he could expect”, but the best situation for his development as a game designer: he gets practice at all the steps again, he gets to make his presentation and get better at it, he gets validation that his game design is compelling and worth investigating even if it’s too expensive to develop right now, *and* he gets basically private tutoring and networking with Fujisawa. And there’s always the chance it could get made later when technology makes it cheaper to make the game. Plus, he doesn’t really need the money right now from a sale.
As for the romance side, H.R.S. (Her Romantic Ship) Nanami seemed to right itself just a little this episode, making it easier for me to stand proud in the bow. I’m still pretty sure we’re headed for Mashiro Reef, but the show seems to be great at making us hold out this hope out for Nanami. And I’m not sure if the ecchi stuff works for making Sorata look at Mashiro in a romantic / sexy way. But Mashiro’s probably has always been that she just can’t communicate her feelings. And really, shoujo mangas aren’t going to help anyone learn how to communicate unless they’re good at realizing “this is what you DON’T do!”

Yeah, this half pass certainly is giving him the right experience for later, plus it’s giving him a helping hand along the way instead of shoving him right out there and saying ‘do this’.
PFFT H.R.S. IT’S BRILLIANT. At least you’re standing proud and sticking with the ship. Ahahahaha Shoujo manga are really bad for advice, aren’t they. xD Well, maybe they’ll give Mashiro a push for figuring out her feelings. I have to say that I agree with the whole ecchi development being … not the best thing at this point. They might have been a good attention grabber at the beginning of the show, but I think Mashiro and Sorata need something a bit more for their relationship. Or else it’s going to look like Sorata went with her because of his hormones.

Boob Ninjas: What was that, a Power Wheels plane? That’s just… I don’t even… wut? Anyway, the Hanzou girls are still pathetically overmatched. The only one who’s even fought her opponent to a draw is Yagyuu, and that’s cause her opponent was after the nearly worthless Hibari. If they’re supposed to be training, they need to get better at it.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – 04: I saw episode 5 and it’s a step in the right direction after this. Maou shows she can be a fierce business woman if she can sway a merchant who has experience in honing his skills played by a very abled Hiroshi Kamiya. I know that voice anywhere. However, she needs to work on her composure a little better now that it’s shown she’s susceptible to flattery. I can help but feel there’s an ulterior motive to her plan. There’s something she’s holding back.
I know she means well but I wish that Head Maid would stop acting like a bitch and shooting holes through Maou’s confidence. Her words tend to more mocking than helping out. A person is most vulnerable when they’re trying to please the one they like.
Yuusha has been busy meeting some strange girls who confessed to him during his time away. That Cow girl was the one that took the cake. I can understand why he’s so bothered and indicisive. He just wants to feel useful.

Vivired – Here we go again with Akane giving off the keys, which is supposedly a military secret, to a person they just met, like it was candy.
And don’t get me started on the power plant being fully automated that not even a single person was inside there maintaining it. Something as big as providing 95% of the world power obviously doesn’t need maintenance or protection /sarcasm.
Ugh, my head hurts.
Past that, the usual Naked attacks, monster of the week, HomuHomu being HomuHomu, and Docking. The works.
Himawari’s assets are nice though.
And I guess the POV from between the legs isn’t a consistent thing. Or maybe I just missed it. Oh well.

I seem to recall that Dr. Isshiki handed out the keys to the other girls, but with Yellow, Akane did it herself. Raising the question, how do those keys get made, and why does a teenager like Akane have authority to give them out? I also didn’t catch the through-the-legs shot this episode, though it did have plenty of other butt shots (even so, they were a little tamer than in previous episodes).
One thing popular media seem to miss about power plants is that they need staff maintaining them 24/7. I have a white collar office job, but I have coworkers who have night and weekend shifts in order to keep our plants running. Post- or during-apocalypse stories tend to get this wrong; without anyone running the plants, the energy grid would shut down in a matter of days at most, probably hours.
But this is magical girls, and we can’t have maintenance workers getting killed or fixing things when a super genius middle school girl is supposed to do it.

Senran – Mortal Combat my ass. What a simple excuse for the girls to strip down. They’ll probably stand a chance against the dark ninjas if they do fight naked though. That’ll probably be in the final episodes.
And that loli stands out a lot from the sea of melons in this show, and for good reasons(besides the flat chest obviously). God, I just flipped when she pulled out that jet from under her skirt. Just…wtf.
Aside from that, standard beach episode with a side of villains. They need to step up their game or they’ll be beat. That ‘super ninja’ bit might be the key and it will be predictable but as long as I get plenty of skin and bouncing melons, I’m still good with this show.

As for the dark ninjas, I notice we’re continually getting hot girls as adversaries. This is going to be rough to watch when they’ll start getting beat down and maybe killed. I already peg Hikage as the “S” in the group with the way she’s always licking her blade and she screams Orochimaru.
Don’t forget. Nyaruko and Kuuko pulled insane weapons from under their skirts. Mirai is simply late to the trend. And that umbrella as weapon. She and Yagyuu are destined for a showdown.

Vividred Operation – 04: Here I thought Frau and Sasami were the only hikikomori around this season. Now we have a third one in Himawari.
Again, Akane happily gives away another key that’s supposed to be top secret and the chosen girl suddenly knows all the ropes to the point of knowing the Docking Operation. I’ve really got to tell myself not to worry so much about details in these kinds of shows. Vivid Yellow looks nice but I’m still fanboying over Vivid Green.

Yeah, that was an awfully fast recruitment. But the show’s not hanging around, it’s got stuff to get done. I kinda wish the Alone weren’t a complete and utter ripoff of the Neuroi. I mean, have them shoot green or yellow beams instead of red, for pete’s sake. Even a little difference would be enough. And Rei’s uncommented on interference is getting old as well. Maybe now that they’ve introduced everyone except Rei, they’ll get on with something a little different.

I think I gotta go with Green, Blue, then Yellow. I can’t really put my finger on it, but Vivid Green just looks ridiculously sexy. Vivid Blue looks a lot like Miku Append, which is pretty cool. But I’m not a big fan of the brownish color palette of Vivid Yellow or those princess curls.

I wouldn’t mind if they pushed the swimsuit ep to OVA like Girls und Panzer or Hyouka. I like the snappy pace and rhythm the show is developing, and I’d be worried of an aside episode breaking that up. Given the preview, we’ll find out more about the Black (Purple) magical girl next, so maybe they do decide to trace her arrows.

Yeah, the swimsuit/bath episode should be a BD/DVD extra. You’re right that throwing one in now would throw off the fast paced action the show has had so far. All the butt shots should be enough fan service for now.
We know they have to fight the opposing magical girl at some point (and before the end of the show make friends with her). Now that they have their team together it’s time they learned of her existence and have to fight her. So I would expect in the next episode or two that they do trace one of the power bolts back to her.

I’m still having trouble siding with who should win Sorata in the end, Mashiro or Nanami and I don’t want to see either of them get hurt when they confess because one of them is going to have their love unrequitted. Their rehearsal was a total troll. I figured she’d finally tell him her feelings only to have the opportunity shot down.
Bring on the next episode fast. I want to know how Rita plans to snag the hime cut tsundere Ryuunosuke. Valentine’s Day is going to make things more interesting unless he’s anti-love like Eita or Masuzu from OreShura.

From what Highway says, the fans will probably behead the author for even thinking of pairing Sorata with Nanami, so Mashiro seems like the choice. The rehearsal was… difficult to watch since Sorata is so dense. Poor Nanami…
Oh yeah, I totally didn’t mention that above, but whatever Rita has planned is going to be the highlight of Valentines day.

I know it’s late to get back to this, but what I’m seeing is that Nanami fans are folks who generally want to see Nanami do well, and think she deserves a good ending. And the Mashiro shippers are basically saying “No, there’s no way, you’re delusional, the only person in the show is Mashiro.” Which really isn’t what I see in the show, but whatever…

At this point I cannot launch any ship. One one hand it’s much safer that way, on the other I feel that these kids have some more growing to do; not necessarily up, they are doing well as individuals. No they need to grow out a bit more. Taking on a relationship means making some sacrifices. As of yet, few of them are ready for that next step. Jin looks like he is….but oh, he soooo is not doing it right.
But for the record I will enjoy seeing Rita get her man. The breaking of that ice will be very entertaining.
