Vocaloidism 03 – Magic in Numbers

This time round on Vocaloidism, duets and group collaborations!~ (*~▽~)

Hello everyone! I’m here with the third instalment of Vocaloidism hehe. From now onwards I’ll be recommending songs with certain themes instead of grouping them by individual Vocaloids or utaites, so there’ll be a mix of original and covered Vocaloid songs c: This time round, I’ll be recommending duet/group songs! What do you get when beautiful voices join in harmony? Magic in numbers! Introducing the cute – the ones that make you smile, the bittersweet – the ones that make you tear, and the sexy – the ones that make you nosebleed xD

 The cute ・ かわいいの

01 | Suki Kirai – SoraLon

This song is just kawaii beyond words! (*≧▽≦) Soraru and Lon are both favourites of mine, and their collabs always end up in something wonderful. It’s a perfect portrayal of silly teenage love with a catchy tune that’ll get you DAWWWing at how moe everything is. Cute? That’s an understatement!
| Music/lyrics: Gom/FernandoP |

02 | ggrks-ググれカス- / Go Google It! – PokoHana

ggrks gives me complicated feelings, because it’s such so cute and silly at the same time that I don’t know if I want it in my playlist xD It has a really bubbly tune to it, but the actual song lyrics are so frigging hilarious!! Basically, it’s a song about a guy asking his crush about some ahem, sensitive questions and her telling him to go google it (hence the song title). Hanatan’s Engrish at the beginning is fantastic and Pokota is.. well, sexy as usual. Also, this version happens to have the best PV ever. Enjoy and laugh.

03 | Mr.music – 【羊天音十折浪民】

You know, one good utaite is usually good enough to drive me crazy, so what happens when you put 7 of them together? Be prepared for overwhelming cuteness! Also, if you want to listen to more adorable rubbish Engrish, fast forward to 2:54 – you’ll laugh your head off. If you’re a guy reading this post and want moe girls to fanboy over, head over to the female ver.! I had a hard time deciding between the two because both are good, so check it out too! (⌒▽⌒)☆

 The bittersweet ・ せつないの

01 | Ame Yume Rou – GuriNaga

Fun fact: both Guriri and Nobunaga are Korean! They actually cover both J-pop and the occasional K-pop, and they are absolutely wonderful together. Guriri has the stronger, more powerful voice whereas Nobunaga’s is gentler and sweeter and when they sing together (especially harmonies oh gosh those harmonies), magic happens. This song is a rather sad one, about a girl who’s waiting for a broken promise that is never going to be fulfilled. Guriri and Nobunaga have really sung this song beautifully with the twists and turns of their voices and you need to listen to this! Right now!

02 | Boku Mitaina Kimi, Kimi Mitaina Boku – SoraLon

I know I’ve already introduced one SoraLon song, but this one is different – this one can make you cry. The producer is DECO*27, which is one of my favourite Vocaloid producers, and it’s heartbreaking and sweet all at the same time. This particular version has been rearranged by Suzumu though, and he’s added a bittersweet feel to the original. Lon’s voice is especially moving in this one, listen to the bridge – she actually sounds so fragile and sad that she could break at any time and gahhh FEELINGS! The song illustrates a slowly distancing relationship between a couple through voice messages, and it’s so… beautiful.
| Music: DECO*27, rearranged by Suzumu |

03 | Love Distance Long Affair – CleWota

Yup, the title was written like that on purpose – not the other way round. DECO*27 has a way of writing songs about beautiful romances that makes people cry, and that’s why I love his songs (oh gosh this makes me sound masochistic). CleWota is quite popular on Niconico, and that’s because their voices come together to produce something classic, something that moves hearts. This song is about a couple who’ve been apart for while, and are dealing with a long-distance relationship. The last chorus is amazing.

 The sexy ・ セクシーの

01 | え?あぁ、そう。 (Oh? Ah, I see.) – DasoRen

One word to describe this: eargasmic. Brought to you by hot sexy ikemen #1 and #2 (aka Dasoku and Ren), this song is really addictive. The song itself is already about naughty things, they just made it sexier! The last “aa, mou dame” (*coughs* rough translation: ah, I can’t–) is uhh… sexy? No other words can describe it hehehe. At around 1:37, you’ll hear a sound of a car crashing (I’m serious). The original actually has the word fxxx in it, so usually utaites will add some random sound there to cover it up. DasoRen’s version plays on the song title and features a story about the two of them crashing into someone with their car. The PV is really cute, you should catch the second part of it xD
| Music: Chouchou-P |

02 | Black Jack – SoraOn

Soraru and Shamuon make an interesting duet as they sound quite different. Soraru’s the one with the deeper, ikemen voice while Shamuon’s has a distinctly teenagery, cuter feel. This song is again, about sexy things. The lyrics are actually quite clever, considering that it’s talking about… sexy things (sorry this is awkward for me) and it has a really catchy tune! The PV is beautiful, what with the falling poker cards and all. You could check out the original by Luka which also has a sexy PV! How many times have I written sexy in this post?
| Music: YuchaP |

03 | magician’s operation – 【男性8人】

The really fun thing about group collabs is that when utaites add extra (vocal) sound effects to their individual covers to make them more unique, because when you put all of those together, BAM! A Niconico chorus with an awesome mix of sound effects is formed. The second the song starts playing, you’ll catch them right away and that makes it all the more special as compared to the original. My favourite parts are halyosy’s (especially that scream at 2:22 – how does he even hit that high note?) This is actually an inspirational song telling you to not give up on life. But it sounds sexy, doesn’t it? 8)
| Music: EZFG |
Aaand that’s it for this round of Vocaloidism! I had a lot of fun revisiting all of these collabs at one go again, so I hope you’ve found songs to add to your playlist!~ For mp3 downloads, head over to nicosound, and if you’re up for daily Vocaloid updates on Youtube, you could try subscribing to Nebula’s Resolution or Melonotes! Actually, I have lots of themes and ideas in mind for the next post, but I can’t decide on one of them. I was thinking of doing one on Vocaloid producers, but then again I’ve already indirectly introduced some of them here and there in the previous posts. What do you guys think? You could also tell me what themes you’d like to see on Vocaloidism below in the comments, and I’ll see what I can do! (`・ω・´)”

ggrks is one of the first vocaloid duet songs I heard and I was laughing so hard when I heard it. It’s still in my ipod to this day, though I don’t listen to it anymore. This version is simply hilarious, together with the PV. I like the various little rearrangements they did on this song, like Hanatan’s tsundere moment at 2:56. God, I can loop that all day XD. I swear Pokota has one of the sexiest voices I’ve heard.

Being a DECO*27 fan, obviously my favorite songs in this list are Boku Mitaina Kimi, Kimi Mitaina Boku and Renkyori Enai. This arrangement of Boku Mitaina Kimi, Kimi Mitaina Boku is simply amazing. There’s way more emotion in here than the original. The first transition from Lon to Soraru is also very pleasant.

Renkyori Enai here is really nice. Clear and Wotamin’s voices really work well together. I prefer Topi’s version though for the first chorus with clear’s solo. Just not as “strong” as Topi’s. And I agree, the last chorus is simply stunning.

The rest of the songs in this list are awesome too. This is a really good post and I hope there’ll be more XD.

Same here! Hehe I probably first heard it when I had just come into contact with Vocaloid songs. It’s a good idea to look for good utattemitas when trying to get yourself into an old song again, as they usually have their own quirky bits and rearrangements to revamp it. I do that when I listen to one version so much that I get sick of it xD

I FOUND A FELLOW DECO*27 FAN!! /highfives What other songs of his did you like? I thought his Love Lasts Forever was cool because he arranged+sang it ^~^ Other than that I really like Egomama too. As for the rearranged version of Boku Mitaina Kimi, Suzumu has magic hands haha every song he rearranges sounds wonderful! He actually does remixing for every single song in Soraru/Lon’s albums, like the recent SoraAi or Gakuen Reversi~

I like Topi’s version too, but I still prefer duets over solos as I feel somehow it adds to the depth and emotional value of it? xD Agreed that Topi’s transitions the pre-chorus to chorus better though.

Yay! Glad you liked it (☆^ー^☆) There’ll definitely be more to come (when motivation+inspiration comes to me uhhh) hehe thanks for reading and commenting~ ♥

        /highfive
Yeah DECO*27 sang quite a few of his songs himself. My favorite is 27 from the Love Calender album. For my favorite DECO*27 songs of all time its gotta be Mozaik Role and Yowamushi Montblanc. Those 2 songs are what got me into DECO*27 and GUMI after all XD. Recently, I’ve only been listening to his Kisou Honnou sang by Aoi Yuuki and the piano remix of Ai Kotoba. Other songs I like would be Sunadokei, Pedal Heart, Lovegazer, Nisoku Hokou, THERE’S JUST TOO MANY. XD

        • Toori-chan says:

Ehh I didn’t know Mozaik Role was by Deco*27. Must be because I was too dull of a Vocaloid fan to check out the composers in my early days with Vocaloid… but yeah I love Mozaik Role although, for me, it ranks after all the rockish Gumi songs by Last Note.

        • Karakuri says:

I don’t think it’s his own song, but I really love DECO*27’s version on STEP TO YOU with… I think it was mirto. Everything he does is brilliant~.

        • Miyu says:

All the DECO*27 love going around! It makes me happy haha he’s awesome ♥ Actually, I got to know Soraru (my utaite husbando, and also the first utaite I listened to) through a cover of Mosaic Role as he’s a huge DECO*27 fan (he covered nearly all of his songs) so yes I have DECO*27 to thank for getting me into Vocaloid and the world of uttatemitas.

Have you listened to Aimai Elegy? xD

        • Rakkyo says:

          @Miyu
I’ve pretty much listened to most(if not all) the songs DECO*27 composed or rearranged so yeah I’ve listened to Aimai Elegy.
It’s definitely a different style than the rest of his songs but it works very well with marina’s rather deep voice. And speaking of utaites and Aimai Elegy, I’ve listened to his cover of Aimai Elegy before and it was pretty awesome. He should do a duet with marina or something XD.

          @Karakuri
Yeah it was mirto and the song is composed by 40mP(another great composer btw) and rearranged by DECO*27 for some special event. I’m hoping mirto sings more covers though coz she has such a sweet voice. I like her version of Ai Kotoba and Lovegazer.

          • Rakkyo says:

Ah I mean soraru’s cover of Aimai Elegy. Should proofread my comments next time XD

  2. Toori-chan says:

So many songs that I never hear before. The songs I know “E? Aa, Sou” but was SoraRythm’s ver., the original “ggrks” and “Mr.Music”.

I love the Mr.Music, Ame Yume Rou, Boku Mitaina Kimi, Kimi Mitaina Boku and magician’s operation cover. magician’s operation was awesome. Always love it when Utaites do chorus’. Thanks for the recommendations~

    • Gecko says:

If you liked magician’s operation, you should try out all the other EZFG songs. (ie, the other 3: Cyber Thunder Cider, Hurting for a Very Hurtful Pain, and TOO SHY SHY BOY!) And all of the utaites of the three songs are great. I tend to lean to mafumafu’s versions of the first 2 more than any other, though. Some of the versions get a little bit too electronic-sounding for me.

      • Toori-chan says:

I checked out the songs. Although I’m a techno fan but the singing is too techy for my liking…

    • Miyu says:

I think Soraru’s version of E? Aa, Sou had an awesome arrange, but his voice didn’t quite bring out the… sexiness that existed in other covers (I can’t believe I’m saying this sorry soraru my husbando). Somehow after listening to utattemitas I can’t really appreciate the original songs as much any more, other than a few exceptions (mostly GUMI’s songs, like Pedal Heart or Coward Montblanc).

The first Niconico chorus I ever heard was the one for Just Be Friends. They have like those crazy 80+ people covers HAHA they were so cool 8) No probs Toori, glad you enjoyed it! ^~^

      • Toori-chan says:

It still ended up being my favourite version because of Suzumu’s arrangement. I only started listening to a lot of utattemita not to long ago, thanks to you, but so far Soraru and Wotamin were the ones who stole my love from a lot of my favourite Gumi and IA songs.

I can’t remember my first chorus because I liked most of the chorus I find~

  3. kitty says:

I have to say my favorite Black Jack number is still Len x Kaito x Gakupo *dies* Thanks for this Miyu~ I always learn so much I didn’t know!

    • Miyu says:

Ooh I’ve actually not heard of that version before, shall check it out 8) And thanks! I’m always so happy when people read my Vocaloidism posts and get to know awesome songs they never knew before ♥

  4. Karakuri says:

Well damn, that version of え?あぁ、そう。 was AMAZING. I don’t really like the original (or to be more specific, Miku’s voice with the song), but I love everyone’s take on it on nico xD. ヤマイ’s is great. <3

    • Miyu says:

Funny thing is that I actually listened to DasoRen’s cover before trying the original out, and usually once you listen to utattemitas the original just seems meh in comparison xD Miku’s voice is not sexy enough for the song hehe. I have Yamai’s version too, but nothing beats DasoRen for me though (ikemen + ikemen = ♥). Ah, if only the guys around us in real life could sing like that too.. *dreams*

  5. Gecko says:

Oh gosh the ggrks PV. Dying laughing here. That art.
You picked the better of the 2 magician’s operation choruses (at least, from the 2 I’ve seen.) This one is more human-sounding to me, but who knows, I listen to so much Vocaloid I may not know what human singing is anymore. XD
But no Clear x Nero for sexy? Or was the Engrish of “Butterfly” too much for you? It was for me when I first heard it. No Magnet either? That gets pretty interesting with the forbidden love.

    • Miyu says:

I know!!! It’s the most horrible thing ever HAHA but done on purpose, so good on them for that xD

I used to listen to a lot more Vocaloid until I found utattemitas, and now I actually listen to most songs without knowing about the original /shot HAHA. For magician’s operation my personal favorite version is halyosy’s – I thought the mixing of those 8 versions was quite cool though, with all the extra sound effects and all. True that, nowadays more utaites have been using autotune and the like to make their voices sound more robotty. It works with some songs, but not all of course.

I FORGOT ABOUT CLEANERO’S CANTARELLA NOoOOOoO how could I not have put that under sexy :c okay nevermind there’s always next time, I LOVE that song! I haven’t heard their Engrish version of Butterfly though (is it the DRRR! one?). The thing about magnet is that I have over 6 covers and I don’t know which one to recommend. Plus a lot of people would already have known about it. I love Sekihan and Piko’s version though, ALL THE LULZ!!!

  6. Moni Chan says:

Mr.Music sounds like a Hey! Say! JUMP song

    • Miyu says:

If you like Mr.music, you could check out MUGIC too hehe. They’re both group collabs by a whole bunch of awesome utaites!

Don’t even get me started on how much I love Hey! Say! JUMP. SUPER DELICATE AHHHHH /fangirls

  7. MikADo says:

metanorn had post about vocaloids? i never knew that!
    im excited!

-what happened to [magnet]? ;P should have plenty of awesome duets 😀

-ggrks is seriously funny and i loved the art especially since its misaka XD love that series

-i really loved suki-kirai, and many versions of it were excellent, though i did think soraru’s voice was kind of unmatching for this song, though he is a great utaite 😛
i liked remote control and love words more by this duet

-lots of nico collab songs in medley songs and songs like fire flower, romeo&cinderella, dear, melt, 10 face, heart beat 0822 and such 😀

-Deco 27 is an awesome P and i love most of the songs 😀 excellent use of GUMI 😀

daww my comment is getting too long now XD
i get overly excited when niconico is involved so i should close off here XD
