Music Digest: Recent Original Soundtracks

Original Soundtrack releases of Ao no Exorcist (OST 2), No. 6  (OST 1), Kamisama/ Dolls & no Memochou

Why, hello there; recuperating Kyokai, reporting for aniblogging duty. You can see my dedication when I’m typing this up with my left hand alone because there’s a damn cannula fixed on my right one and it’s itching at all the wrong places, making my life miserable. Before you worry, I had one of the worst day of this year, when an old cyst acted up making me end up in hospital, screaming my voice hoarse. Not a pretty picture I tell you. Though it’s all contained now and I’m bed resting and denting my anime backlog because I have nothing better to do. What about Haruhi novels? Well, they are in progress whenever there’s a long power outage. But hey, you weren’t here for me to type my wiles away slowly but for the music and incidentally, we recently had four big releases. Bound to happen with many series ending as Fall starts today! Can you wait? I sure can’t!

So, out of these four, I was looking forward to Ao no Exorcist’s second OST the most. I fangirled on the first part wayyyy more than some other releases of this season; it was seriously that good. However, the second part did not live up to my expectations at all and it seems Sawano just dished out all the good ones with the first installment. That doesn’t mean that they were bad as I rather liked all the Nichijouyou de SUIT tracks; I guess, because they were resonating the more dramatic part of the anime I didn’t have much to tap my feet to.

Kamisama Dolls Original Soundtrack by Masara Nishida and Theme composition by Chiaki Ishikawa

Second was Kamisama Dolls Soundtrack as the OP (ref to the OP & ED Single) has been one of the first of season that I really took a big liking to. With the recent off time, I’ve finally been able to catch up to the series and even if it started a bit shaky, it ended pretty solidly and if my eyes are not deceiving me, there will be a second season. Being produced by Brains Base I didn’t have any problems with quality and the music, specifically of the dolls was eerie in a good way and pretty addictive. I remember the first time I heard it, I had it in my mind for a few days so specifically for that I’ve been really looking forward to this soundtrack release. Though, I feel cheated somehow because the doll themes are devoid of music and if I had been thinking of putting the Kukuri one as my ring tone, I have to still suffice it with Redline because the quality is not what I expected. However, other tracks are well rounded and suiting the anime theme, but definitely overall not the best of the lot.

No. 6 Original Soundtrack 1 by Suzuki Keiichi

Third was No.6 Soundtrack because I loved the series and everything about it. Not to mention, I so fangirl Hosoya. HNNNGGG/ I was really looking forward to listening to the many songs he sang but sadly only one made it to this first installment, which is “Kaze No Requiem ~Mao no Tami~“. Hopefully, there will be more in the second installment (for the hardcore ones out there, you can easily find a short drama CD that released with the first DVD, which was mildly entertaining). This is pretty thematic with a sci-fi feel to it; I specifically loved the fusion tracks. However my most favourite has to be Michi naru Sekai as it simply takes me back to the series and some good, playful memories. You should definitely catch the previously released OP & ED Singles because both of them are just brilliant.

Kamisama no Memochou Original Soundtrack by Iwasaki Taku

Something that really surprised me is the Memochou Soundtrack, which I wasn’t really looking that much forward to. Though I recently completed this series and ended up liking it so when I gave this a whirl, I was amazed to like it the most out of these four releases. It totally slipped my mind that Iwaski Taku did the music for this, whose work I already loved in C, Katanagatari and Kuroshitsuji. Not only did I love the different covers of the main cast (Yondaime <333) but the whole composition of music to how the tracks were placed and numbered in the CD. Even if you haven’t watched this series, you would like to after listening to this soundtrack. It has everything from peppy to relaxing and even sorrowful/emotional tracks. You would recognize the dude from C shoutouts, singing a melody of NEET’ I also liked the 99 NEETS. I’m having a hard time choosing favourites so I will just say that most of the tracks are pretty good.

Tracklist:

1. Teddy
2. The seamy side
3. Jiken
4. N.E.E.T.

What? AnE OST II and Kamisama no Memo-chou? Didn’t expect this on the same time as Fate/Zero but my day (meaning morning at 2AM :)) is complete! Now, I shall go and listen to all of these artistic pieces of music…

  2. Samantha Zan says:

MUST HAVE Ao no Exorcist SOUNDTRACK! I <3 HIROYUKI SAWANO :3

  3. BlackBriar says:

Excellent! Ao no Exorcist, Kamisama Doll Kamisama no Memo-chou. They’re the best OP playing so far. Nice pic of Yukio holding the gun with blue flames at the tip.

  4. Junko says:

    Kamisama & No.6 kthx <3

  5. Hime says:

aw whut? Kamisama Dolls OST doesn’t have the dolls songs? That’s balls.

On the other hands…AnE OST part 2…HNNNG!

    • Kyokai says:

They do have it. They are not as brilliant as I thought they should be. Devoid of music… ><

      • Hime says:

So it does, my mistake. Yeah, the lack of music is a bit crap, still…Kyohei’s version of Kukuri’s song is just so badass that I forgive them X3

*listens to it over and over and over*

Is it just me or does the AnE OST sound really irish/celtic? Lol, I love it, think it’s a nice touch.

  6. Joojoobees says:

It’s going to take me a while to digest the Kamisama no Memochou OST. I had been looking forward to it because of Iwasaki, but while watching the show, there were only a couple of BG tracks that seemed to stand out. Now that I’m listening to it, however, it has much more depth than I remember. The immediate standout track to me is “Alice in computer room”, which is the livelier version of “Teddy”. Those are only two of the tracks that feature a kalimba, or some other toy-like percussive instrument. And for something completely different: “2fun 30byou de Wakaru Tanoshii NEET life” is funky fun.

  7. Kitty says:

Yay couldn’t wait for AoEx OST2 picking it up and the end of October~~~~ Hope its as awesome as the first one ^_^

  8. Overcooled says:

I was actually stupidly excited for the Kamisama no Memochou OST since I really loved the series and was addicted to the song “Teddy” ages before this was released. It’s going to make perfect study music, I tell you. Ao no Exorcist is another big one for me. It’s a lot livelier, which is great for just casual listening~

No.6, ehh…I didn’t even notice the background music aside from the sexy singing so I’ll skip that one.

  9. foshizzel says:

Kamisami Memochou OST is awesome I love that 99 neets ahahah best song ever! xD

Exorcist OST2 just as good as the other one, really great!

No6. Meh it was kind of lame, singing was alright.

  10. Yvoon says:

  11. Miyu says:

I really want to get my hands on the actual No.6 OST just for the sake of having it HAHA. -obsessed fangirl-

Is it just me or something? Although the cover is so simple, it has it’s own special appeal *w* I can totally imagine the smiling Shion and smirking Nezumi 8D

  12. Yuki says:

Thanks for the review! Now I know which soundtracks to listen to. (: Already have AnE OST 2, so I am going to try the other 3 as well.

  13. Alynn says:

    I need them all omgg.
