Sacred Seven – 10

Ruri- “I bet Alma is taller than this damn tree….”

Another episode of Sacred Seven for us all to enjoy! This week I think we are in for some flashback fun, well most flashbacks are lame and boring but it might be nice to catch up on some of the history of these characters. In other anime related news, I am working on a long AMV; hopefully, I can get something out for you to watch soon as I don’t want to rush it too fast. Anyway time to start the review! Enjoy.

Plot this week takes us back five years into the past with Ruri and her sister Aoi around Christmas time before she was sealed inside that large crystal. But things are rapidly changing in the real time as Aoi seems to be released from the crystal. We also find out about Makoto’s father and how he died many years ago fighting a familiar fire-based Darkstone! After hearing the story Alma leaves the mansion and encounters Knight.

Ruri- “So that’s why I thought I was at a rave club! My sister ate a bunch of glow sticks.”

We start things out with Alma at school wondering why Ruri and Makoto happen to be missing from school, unknown to everyone that Aoi’s crystal suddenly breaks freeing her, which is somehow connected to Alma’s power going crazy in the previous episode. This ultimatlely caused Aoi to break free? This leaves Ruri to think Alma can suddenly wake her sleeping sister!? I guess having sacred powers makes you suddenly a doctor who can cure people.

Makoto- “Aoi’s lolicon powers are safe; do not worry Ojo-sama!”

Ruri- “Long ago in a galaxy far away….”                 Alma- “Wait you watched Star Wars again, didn’t you??”

Anyway, we jump back five years to see Ruri, Aoi and Makoto as children and their parents decorating Christmas trees when they get a random visit from Yuuji. Yes he screams all kind of evil to Ruri’s parents. Afterwards the girls are making their presents for the parents when Ruri overhears some talk between them and Yuuji, but she really doesn’t look into it too much. The following morning everyone is set to leave and visit their vacation home where it is currently snowing. But something happens between the sisters as Aoi breaks the present Ruri was going to give to their parents and the two have a argument with the usual I hate you speech, so they end up leaving Makoto and Ruri alone so she can calm down! Seriously?! ARGGG Ruri you are so spoiled….Anyway the rest of the family leave.

Dad- “Damn it, I forgot my kids’ names again, which one is the bitchy one again?”

One day, Makoto, you will have a mustache like your old man.

Yuuji- “Merry evil Christmas, you fools! Err I mean…HO HO HO BITCHES!”

Aoi- “OH YEAH? Your hair color’s so fake!”               Ruri- “Wait you are the bitchy twin!”

Well shortly after everything begins to get chaotic as our lava friend attacks the family killing guards, maids and even has a one on one fight with Makoto’s father leaving him seriously injured. And we learn how Aoi sealed herself in the crystal! Out of fear of being killed, her sacred powers activated as a defense mechanism saving her life. Makoto’s father on the other hand died afterwards trying to kill off the monster that attacked the house, which finally explains to Alma why Ruri fights in the first place. Just to save her sister and put a stop the Darkstones for good.

Butler- “Oh hey there little forest animal, have you been good this year?”

Butler- “Suddenly I can taste those Christmas cookies from last year….ouch…”

Aoi- “Damn you, Charmander, I told you not to come out till I said surprise!!”

Makoto- “Dad…how can I be as GAR as you?”          Dad- “…Grow an epic mustache like me…seriously.”

After hearing Ruri’s full story, Alma agrees to do everything in his power to save Aoi’s life. He ends up running into Knight on the way home and learns he still has plans on killing off Yuuji for revenge! Sure sounds like a great plan to me after all Yuuji is a creepy dude. The episode ends with a quick visit to Yuuji’s lab where he is looking down at the lava Darkstone waiting to plan his next move.

Knight- “I AM SO ANGRY! Can’t you tell? Oh wait I need more shadow.”

Yuuji- “I don’t know about you but I’m having the best day ever!”

Extra powers

Aoi- “You there! I am pointing into your soul!”

Ruri- “I am so awesome, LOOK AT MY ANGEL NOW!”

They are so rich; they require four Christmas trees!

A salute to the BAMF butler! You were awesome!

End Thoughts:

This wasn’t the most exciting episode of Sacred Seven but it definitely clears up the mystery behind Ruri. I still want to know which sister did Alma save from being crushed?! I have a feeling Aoi was the one he ended up saving. If anything, I can bet Aoi’s sacred power is greater than anything Ruri can currently do, then again it always could be the other way around with Ruri trapped in a crystal instead of Aoi… A funny note, you can really tell Aoi is more of a tsundere compared to the airhead Ruri! She is going to be so pissed that she didn’t grow at all, while she was stuck in the crystal; I guess she will be the younger sister?

Part of me doesn’t really think five years really explains the gap in age, so Makoto was probably what ten when he was a butler to the twins? Or maybe he was twelve years old? Anyway I have no idea how old these characters actually are but five years seems too close! And its anime so age really doesn’t matter all that much, take Ichigo from Bleach; he’s technically fifteen or sixteen years old and looks totally ripped… Well, enough about ages, I just think they could have gone with a longer time gap than just five.

Man, Makoto’s dad! Such a badass! Rest in peace man, but still going hand to hand with that fire monster was damn epic… until he got owned… Then showing up for another round?! Now that’s a hard working butler that doubles as an awesome bodyguard! I kept imagining him with a Spanish accent whenever he spoke because that would’ve been amazing. And poor Ruri! She really didn’t get a chance to say sorry to her sister, but that seems to be a very generic anime thing, right? The “regret” and it’s always siblings. I guess you should choose your works carefully….

Preview

Ruri- “My god, random bondage? And no Alma to watch? Err… I mean to save me….”

It looks like Ruri finds herself kidnapped once again! DAMN IT GIRL, STOP GETTING TAKEN ALL THE TIME! Anyway, it looks like Alma and Makoto will have a fight and I assume it’s over who gets to play the role of Mario and save the damn princess from the evil Yuuji who wants to slice and dice Ruri up for her blood.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

I agree not the best episode ever. Rather disappointing show actually for a mecha anime, I expect better from Sunrise and Bandai. Hopefully Gundam Age in fall will fulfill this lack of mecha void.

Honsetly nothing has been able to top Gundam Wing, Gurren Lagann and Star Driver. Question Foshizzel!!! Got any recs for mecha animes? (good ones -_-;)

However, GG fansubs does an awesome job at calling Ruri = Rinoa and Alma = Squall…. its rather amusing when the show has no plot.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah sad but true! No one likes a flashback episode this late in the series I mean they should have done this around episode five just to get it out of the way. I really think Sunrise is just trying something new, or are trying their best to recreate S-cry-ed which shares a lot of the same themes.

LOL Yeah GG always finds a series to sub in a comical way, after all I still love that whole opening song swap! And the whole Squall thing isn’t that from one of the final fantasy games? xD

As for recommendations on mecha anime hmmm let’s see
      1- FLCL
2- Gunbuster aka Top wo Nerae!
3- Diebuster aka Top wo Nerae! 2
4- Break Blade movie series around 6 of them
5- Aquarion series there is a movie too
      6- Code Geass
      7- Full metal panic
      8- Eureka seven

There you go a few of my favorite mech series! the first three are really short roughly around six episodes easy for a afternoon watch, Gunbuster is a bit older and Diebuster is more up to date style art but both are fun! Even if they are a bit oldschool.

      Have fun!

Don’t forget Burst Angel, Zoids, Zoids Fuzors, Zoids Chaotic Century.

        • Foshizzel says:

I dunno about Zoids I didn’t really like that way too much CGI for my tastes, but some might like that and Burst Angel I guess you can call that mecha but that’s more like a harem style action show xD or yuri? I think the main chicks are way into each other ahah

          but not bad

          • BlackBriar says:

Yeah, that’s true. I enjoyed that a lot. You can call it the opposite to No 6. after all, yuri is my second favorite thing.

            • Foshizzel says:

Ahahah yeah now that you say the opposite of No6 I can agree there xD I know it’s my sisters favorite show she found randomly.

    • Jrow says:

In addition to Fosh’s nice recs, we actually discussed Mecha on MetaVerse recently. Give that a listen; hopefully we hit on something that might interest you.

      • Foshizzel says:

Oh yes! Our awesome mecha themed podcast! I am sure Jrow and Amuro can give you plenty of choices.

        • Kitty says:

Thank you everyone for the recommendations!!! I have seen Code Geass and Aquarion, loved them both! I tired Eureka Seven once and didn’t like it to much. Used to love Zoids as a kid! Liger-Zero was awesome. I used to think Bit Cloud was the most kick ass shounen boy ever XDDDD Going to check out the podcast!

          Mecha’s rule!

      • anaaga says:

Then I should listen to that. But I haven’t listened even episode…1….

  2. anaaga says:

    THIS. SHOW. SUCKS. BALLS

    • Foshizzel says:

I know! Ah well I hope we can get a decent ending out of this, I really want to see a massive battle between Knight and Yuuji! SOON!! I think in the end someone should die off, probably Yuuji…

  3. Gene says:

    oh gawd Ruri’s thighs

At least some good came out of this show.

  4. BlackBriar says:

They picked the wrong time in a series to put a flashback. Worse, it’s nearing the end and we haven’t seen much development in a while and Kenmi still drawing breath from the earth. It’s time he died.

These people are filthy stinking rich if they can afford so many christmas trees. Ruri’s gonna be kidnapped again? Honestly, she’s becoming the Shiemi of this series.

That was one badass butler. I wonder who’d be best butler. Him, Sebastian Michaelis or Walter from Hellsing.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep honestly they could have done this a long time ago! And give us more action and less flashbacks…Right there is some lack in character development big time! We still have not seen that whole thing with Alma saving one of the sisters…

Ahahaha yeah! four trees! Well she is the “princess” type of character who always gets kidnapped!

Yep Makoto’s dad was awesome, ah yeah I would go with Walter from Hellsing! That dude rocks and can kill you really fast xD

  5. amado says:

the only good thing about this was the butler. badass and doesnt even use a mecha or power stone like any character in the series.

I dont really much like the development. it just ended up being yuuji the main villain WHEN THE ENEMY IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE DARKSTONES. the plot wont be resolved unless they really squeeze in the last ep about the core/mother of the darkstones after they deal with yuuji.

    • anaaga says:

It seems that we’ll be stuck with Kenmi-is-the-evil-bitch-and-his-lab-needs-to-be-bombed ending though

    • Foshizzel says:

Yaaaaaayyy super awesome butler for the win! He was awesome, agreed he doesn’t need any random power to save the day.

Yep! They really have taken this series to a new area I miss the random darkstones popping up to fight, ah well flashbacks are boring….

Yep either way it ends Yuuji is in for a bad ending.

  6. sakura_fai says:

I actually like this episode, but that’s probably due to the fact I skiped several no-plot movement episodes (Thank you metanorn! I didn’t have to waste time on uneeded episodes~! :D)

And I just want more Knight and LAU, def more LAU. and Aoi to tell them everything about kenmi.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ohhhh yes! You are welcome xD

Yep we need more Knight and Lau which you actually get in the next episode! Which I will get busy on soon xD
