Mahiru fills us in on what happened after Kyohei opened Kukuri’s left hand; which was that it absorbed the attack and fired it right back at the monster, destroying it. Exiting flashback, Aki taunts Mahiru by saying Hibino is Kyohei’s girlfriend, which of course sends her into a jealous rage and Aki is repayed with a generous tasering. This of course leads Mahiru to abducting Hibino and molesting her a bit. (two girls alone in one room in anime, it’s law, boobs are going to be massaged) Oh, Japan.

Naturally, this doesn’t go down too well with her superiors or Kyohei, but Mahiru doesn’t care…she’s got a date with him! Well, she says date, but we all know it’s more like a kidnap attempt. Utao tries to intervene but Kyohei’s refusal to return to the village makes Mahiru flee in shame. While pondering what to do next Kyohei has a vision of Aki taunting him. Mmm, kay? That was kind of randomly psychotic. Anyway, the gang rush off to save Hibino who is trying to fend off a creepy guy advancing on her while tied up. Oh, great. I was just thinking this show needed a little more rape /sarcasm.

END THOUGHTS

The last episode was pretty intense so this one’s more laid back pace was nice to start with, but of course once they started trying to be funny I immediately wished for the violent deaths of them all. This was definitely one of the weaker episodes, as all the ones that try to be funny generally are. What was really unintentionally hilarious was how Mahiru molesting Hibino was played up for laughs but when it came to the guy doing it it was dead serious. Ah, standards.

Kirio is surprisingly feminine, I laughed when he got all squeamish in the towel. I could also watch Kyoushiro and Moyako interact all day, they play off each other nicely. Kyoushiro is just a likeable character all round, I wish he was in it more. Though if he was it might ruin the novelty. I was wondering where Kuuko has disappeared to? Did Mahiru just take Aki and leave her behind? That seems like a waste, her and Mahiru would be an entertaining clash I would imagine.

Aki was doing a lot of taunting this episode, whether it was live in person or in some kind of spooky-ass vision in Kyohei’s mind, he was getting under people’s skin again and causes some mental havoc. It’s great that even when he’s being held hostage he still has such an attitiude problem. I suppose it makes sure he retains some level of badass. I’m a bit dissapointed with the preview as it just seems like a re-hash of stuff we have seen before; Kyohei scrabbling about on Kukuri trying to reach Hibino. I don’t actually think she’s going to get raped, I think one rape per seasons is enough, thank you. This isn’t a hentai. Though I’m sure Hibino would feel right at home in one.

It really pisses me off when they pull the generic “every man left alone with a women will try to rape her” stick, it’s just so tired and has no shock value anymore. Not that I liked it when it did have shock value, most of the time it’s just plain unnessesary and easily skipped. Hibino started out as a reasonably strong female presence, she was kind and gentle and caring, sure it was a bit dull but she was emotionally helpful to Kyohei and Utao when they needed her, but now she’s just become another shojo stencil in need of rescue.
