C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control – 08

Who ever said money wasn’t everything?

Are you guys all enjoying summer? (or winter if you’re like Hato, living flipside) I was out enjoying it a little too much this weekend. Luckily I just discovered a new hangover cure, and it’s called [C]. Dayum, this episode has no mercy. Reality sure is a bitch, and for those who wager their futures it’s about to get a whole lot harsher.

[C] 8 begins with South East Asia’s Financial district, and their imminent bankruptcy. Futures are disappearing and along with them, so are the people. Blinking out of existence like light bulbs, the city is beginning to look like a ghost town.

Kimimaro sees his professor on the ledge of a building and realizes he’s preparing to jump. It seems it’s all sunk in for him, the loss of his children, wife and financial security. Luckily though, Kimimaro manages to catch him, preventing his suicide…for now.

“Please take your hand off my ass.”                                              “What? Oh, right. Sorry.”

Back in the Financial District Kimimaro summons Masasaki, who is being extra creepy today. He tries to bail out his professor but Masasaki doesn’t bite. So, Kimimaro opts to try out some other sources.

Mikuni is back to being his mysterious self, dishing out orders to his subordinates. Meanwhile Kimimaro finds out that his professor is dead. He couldn’t save him after all. While in the park he gets another dose of the harsh reality; the district is collapsing.

In an act of rebellion and defiance, Kimimaro burns some of his Midas money in the District square for people to see. He confronts Mikuni later about what he said to him in the past, but the District’s crisis interrupts them. Mikuni declares that they use project “C” as a counter measure, and orders Kimimaro to stay out of the way as assets die and the District begins to crumble.

Shit just got real, yo~

YOU HAVE GAIN

Things are getting very “Pirates of the Caribbean” over here…

Oh hey, it’s Orlando Bloom!

Phewft~

Kimimaro suddenly slipped into World God Only Knows 2’s OP

“When I have my hood up it means I’m brooding.” *broods*

END THOUGHTS

This was definitely one of the biggest episodes of [C]. Without a doubt. The ending was a proper it’s all hit the fan now moment. Though I have to say that actually seeing the people all disappearing was the most disturbing. One minute the place is busy and the next there’s homeless people wrapped up in mattresses and broke businessmen squatting in the streets. Seeing Kimimaro’s classmates all distracted and zombified was pretty intense, too. It reminded me of when people lost their dreams in Merry. The scale of futures being lost was pretty sobering, though. Kimimaro’s random running about hapless and rash was understandable. I mean, the walls were literally cracking around him, what was he supposed to do?

The professor’s suicide didn’t come as a shock to me as he was clearly pretty unstable when Kimimaro found him on the roof. I figured it would happen off screen later to give Kimimaro a feeling of helplessness before the District’s collapse. Kimimaro did earn some points by remaining fairly active and determined throughout the episode, even if it didn’t really help. Mikuni, as always, has a plan, even if that plan is as cryptic as possible. But when it has the same name as the series you can bet it’s important.

You guys know the story of Midas, right? He was a king in Greek mythology who could touch anything and it would turn to gold. (Referenced in the Florence & The Machine track Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up); “Midas is king and he holds me so tight, and turns me to gold in the sunlight”) It kind of makes me laugh, it’s like when they dubbed the Titanic “unsinkable”, you guys are just asking for trouble! Midas was notoriously greedy and selfish; once he found out the perks of turning everything into gold had consequences he quickly wanted to revert to how he once was. Since they are using this old myth (and clearly drawing from it, i.e trolling people into believing fortune is all it’s cracked up to be) I’m interested to see what the outcome is.

I thought “mashu” was the future daughter of Kimimaro and Hanabi. The mother in the vision sounded like Hanabi. Anyway, it’s pretty sad how she’s doing at this point. Felt sorry for the professor too.

    • Dan-go says:

actually that’s alot more interesting than the sister. i thought it was his sister, because we never really learnt what his father lost, when he lost his “future” seeing as he didnt lose kimimaro…

      • Hime says:

I thought it was his sister at first, too. But since Hanabi got so much attention this episode I’m starting to lean towards it being his daughter. It’s incesty either way. Blegh.

Hood up = Assassin? JK XD This ep definitely had no mercy, especially drawing from the whole Asian Financial Crisis back in the day (ah, high school economics…how I loved thee…jk). The whole reality vs District confrontation is definitely going to be a major point from now on since we’ve seen masses of people disappearing, countries literally deleted and Show ▼

So curious what this Project [C] is, what the information broker was talking about to the woman, and definitely can’t wait for some Mikuni badassery! As for that other Masakaki…still getting nightmares…

    • Hime says:

Oh, is there some historical truth to the District crash? XD That would be pretty cool.

Hopefully Mikuni won’t keep us in the dark for too much longer about plan [C]. He skipped right past plan A & B!

  3. amado says:

anyways, im up for the theory that msyu is his sister.
when his dad got bankrupt, he lost his daughter(kimi’s sis) as collateral and then killed himself to stop it from affecting the rest of his family(I think kimi’s mom also died). then the information broker said that msyu looks familiar so msyu might have been his dad’s asset.

now that means that mikuni and kimimaro are both siscons.
hey, at least msyu wouldnt represent his daughter. think of what it implies if its his daughter rather than his sister.

    • Hime says:

It would be cool if MSYU had been passed down from Father to Son as an asset. It’s like giving him his future, so to speak.

What’s with all the siscons this season? XD This is us paying for the traptastic spring we had. Yoh from Deadman would fit right in with Mikuni and Kimimaro.

That is if MSYU isn’t really his daughter. We just don’t know yet!

  4. Mad Chemist says:

Yes! This is what I was waiting for from C, and it did not disappoint. I agree, the parts with people disappearing at random or just losing their drive to do anything were very unsettling. All of this really drove home just how quickly everything’s going south for Japan and how high stakes things have become.

I’m curious about the rest of Mikuni’s C plan. It seems like stripping guild members of their finances to buffer up whatever their defense fund is will have some major and immediate repercussions, but things are getting so bad that even an extreme solution like this could help slow things down. And I can’t help but wondering what’s behind the financial district and how it benefits from all of this misery, because Masasaki seems more like a mouthpiece than the actual power in the district.

    • Hime says:

It’s good to see that [C] is finally fufilling it’s potential with this ZOMGDISASTER start to things. As for Masasaki, he’s just a real curiosity, isn’t he? We don’t know anything about him, or even what he is. It’s total chaos. I hope it stays that way and keeps the momentum going.

  5. Miyu says:

It was very very very unsettling to see my country disappear into nothingness. (Why do they think we’re all brown *facepalm* RACIST HAHA) Now I am afraid. *looks around suspiciously for Midas money*

One of the best episodes so far. The harsh reality is beginning to unveil, and we’re beginning to learn more about the characters bit by bit. So the flashback kinda implied that Msyu is Kimimaro’s daughter in his past life. That is disturbing -_- If they actually do fall in love in this show it’ll be incest incest incest. But that won’t happen, right? 8D

    • Hime says:

Would be good to troll people by finding some black money an using it in stores.

  6. Foshizzel says:

Best episode ever of C! So many awesome things going on and the ending with the worlds blending into one? WHOA AWESOME <3

    Shit just got real xD

  7. Kyokai says:

There was no disappointment FINALLY! This episode was so win! The hard facts is what I was looking for. Money can’t be always everything and thus whatever you do, you face loss. I think Mikuni has good intentions but they are not playing out the way he expected them to.

Kimimaro has a big role to play even if he’s floundering about. Let’s see how it goes.

    • Hime says:

It be good to see Mikuni ruthless and lose sight of his goal, any more and he’ll get a Lelouch complex, haha.

I MUST PROTECT MY SISTER AT ALL COST, EVEN IF THAT COST IS MY SOUL!

It’s like, dude, just get an X-Box and you’ll forget all about her.

  8. Dan-go says:

:O singapore just died! :O holy crap, i love shows that are willing to change what we take for granted. this is what i’ve been waiting for alllllll season. cant wait for the next episode. oh and i bet MSYU looks like kimimaros sister, the one he lost when his father lost

    • Hime says:

The next one should be a good one. I doubt Kimimaro will listen to Mikuni and stay out of it, he should assist in a manner most badass, or should I say…get MSYU to assist in a manner most badass.

  9. James says:

Why is nothing explained in this show?

    • Hime says:

It’s more about intrigue than answers, I’m afraid.
