Bakuman – 22
Where arguments end in less than 10 minutes…
~Recently I followed a cosplay blog on tumblr, and to my surprise (because I hadn’t seen it before), they had cosplay pics of Bakuman characters! It was Shujin, Saiko, Fukuda, Eiji, and some black-haired guy I haven’t seen yet. You can imagine my excitement, especially at the Eiji cosplayer. I swear, cosplay always amazes me, especially the hardcore cosplayers from Japan who literally match EVERYTHING the character has. It’s just so amazing to see them get all the littlest details and such. They always make me want to try cosplaying myself, but I don’t really have the money, nor body for it |’D One day I shall try though and not feel so self-conscious and weird about it…
Anyways, back to Bakuman matters! Our 22nd episode begins with Team Fukuda strolling into the Yuiesha building; Fukuda giving the evil eye to both the Security guard and secretaries as he demands to go into the Editing department.
They get their wish and the four head over, their respective editors prepared for the young, and not-so young, guys. Fukuda is immediatly blocked by his editor, and the two argue over KOOGY’s announcement; his editor arguing that it’s perfectly fair to do what KOOGY did. Nakaki steps in saying that they don’t even feel like they’re competing for the content of their stories anymore. Aoki’s editor steps in as well, telling them if they don’t like it then they could just drop out, and the editors could pick new entries if they wanted. Finally, Mashiro valiantly tells Fukuda that they’ll just win for their story, and all they have to do is just make sure they write a story that won’t lose to his. Fukuda too easily agrees and he decides that they should all share their names and give feedback to each other to make their stories better. With that, they all agree and decide to go to Eiji’s place.
Once at Eiji’s place, both Eiji himself and Aoki come together with the rest of the guys and agree to reading the names and where they’re done reading all three, to give their honest opinions about them. However, as we hear their inner thoughts, some get a bit jealous of the others’ name.
Once all of them had read the names, Fukuda tries to start the critque but Aoki refuses, saying she felt her story was the best out of all of them. The comment makes Fukuda mad, and he starts how bad her story was, and about his story. He then also states he thought his story was the best out of all theirs; Mashiro and Takagi agreeing with theirs as being the best, which deems the whole critique group useless.
Instead they decide to get at least Niizuma’s opinion, in which he says he thought they were all interesting. Mashiro asks which he thought was the most interesting, but only mentions that two are tied for first place without giving the names. The group then decides to go home.
Meanwhile, Kaya and Miho’s younger sister attend a special “St. Viz Girls” event where Azuki and two other girls performed. It’s here where Azuki also finds out about KOOGY’s announcement.
Back at the studio, Kaya shows them a picture of her, Azuki, and Azuki’s younger sister, and at the same time, Mashiro gets an encouraging text from her, which gives him his drive to…rewrite their name?!~
End thoughts: THESE PEOPLE CANNOT MAKE UP THEIR MINDS. I couldn’t help but get a little frustrated over how quickly their minds had changed, especially Fukuda’s. Honestly, everything they did was pointless; entertaining, but pointless. It didn’t even move our plot a bit…
I have to say though, that scene when they went to the Editing Department to complain was really intense! I was literally jumping up and down in my seat in excitement and anxiousness. Of course, Mashiro has to ruin it with his valiant comment….(Sorry I’m just hating on the poor boy |’D). I was more with Fukuda, mainly because I wanted to see some serious fighting or something, which, yes, is wrong of me but hey, I’ve been wanting some punches since Takagi hit that guy waaay back when.
I also loved when they went to critique each others names. It was interesting to hear all their thoughts, but they have to piss me off again by being so high and mighty about their own work. I was watching it like, “JUST SUCK IT UP PEOPLE…”. Luckily the awesome Eiji cured my frustration. It was so nice to see him again! I’ve been missing that Eiji-weirdness in my life ;3; Anyways, his reactions when reading their names were PERFECT, and so funny.
I find it funny how one little text from Azuki actually got the plot moving just a tad bit, haha. Oh my, I feel like I’ve been bagging on this poor episode, but with only three more episodes left to go, I’m wondering if we’re even going to get some kind of explosive ending fueled with our beloved Bakuman-style enthusiasm…~

Ayah, Aoki with glasses is so cute!! *cough* Anyways, it looks like all the participants may be doubtful of their names and rewrite them while KOOGY makes another appearance. I’m not sure how exciting this next episode may be…Until next week then~!

It was a bit pointless…this episode that is… Fukuda al intense goes into the studio argues a bit and then changed his mind at an instant towards Mashiro’s words… and when they gave each other thoughts.. it nearly turned into a blood bath!! I mean, just look at Fukuda’s face!!!! AGRO!!! xD Reminds me of the epic face… or something from Bugs Bunny shows ^^
I didn’t like the idea of that musician making that move to gain more participants towards the questionairs even though it’s true that his fans don’t care about how good or bad it is, just that his awesome and they’d help him out… That’s totally wrong! D:

Yeah I thought that was really wrong too~. I mean, I’m a Jrock/Kpop fangirls and I’d do stuff to help my favorite groups but manga always comes first to me, and I would never vote for something I didn’t like =3=

One of the most frustrating things to me about the way this episode turned out was the crit-session. It didn’t make any sense. If everyone thought their work was the best, then they must have plenty of criticism to offer their peers. Far from being pointless, that is the whole idea! What makes a criticism session pointless is when people don’t offer any constructive criticism of the piece being reviewed. I think inviting Aoki was a mistake, because they could have had a real crit-session between Fukuda and Ashirogi Muto.

~Exactly! They just explained why there’s alone was good, but didn’t offer that constructive criticism, and were instead were a bit childish. I also think inviting Aoki was a mistake; I like the girl, but she’s stubborn with just the genre she likes, and doesn’t seem to give other genres a try, which gets me frustrated at her character at times.

The thing that irritates me about her the most though is how she’s always saying stuff like “ooh, your manga is too violent.” and “gasp! His manga has DRUGS in it! HOW IMPURE!!”

I think Aoki is just so set (stubborn, really) on the genre, types of stories SHE likes, and doesn’t necessarily give other genres a chance.

@ Namika: I don’t like Aoki… but since I’ve spoiled myself in the manga, I know what’s going to develop and I can’t see any connection as to why it lead to THAT (I won’t say it)
Also, Season two will most likely come out after Spring season (Summer) or after that
