Seiyuu Music Spotlight – Hanazawa Kana

This time with 1% less bias!

Hello friends, I hope you’re all enjoying the wonderful music of Itou Kanae from last time. The test will be CUMULATIVE, so if you haven’t done the required listening from last time, then please stop reading right now and go do it first. It will only make things harder if you put it off until the last minute and try to listen to the music all at once, as all of the songs will start blending together and you won’t remember any song titles at all. Just as a reminder, the test will require you to remember titles, singers, and album names, so please bear this in mind as you listen. I recommend putting it all on your iPod or whatever your portable music player of choice is and listen throughout the day. This way, you can glance at the screen if you don’t recognize a song.

The test is, of course, the qualifying exam to be my friend, so don’t take it lightly. Only the highest elite will be able to pass.

Next on our list of excessively amazing singers is the wonderful Hanazawa Kana, another relatively new girl to the scene. Her roles go back to 2006 starting from a series called Zegapain, which I’ve never heard of before. Since then, she’s popped up here and there in series like To Love-Ru (Mikan), Sekirei (Kusano) Bakemonogatari (Nadeko), Angel Beats! (Kanade), etc. Most recently, we saw and loved her as Tsukimi in Kuragehime and Shiori in Kaminomi. That’s right, Hanazawa Kana was Tsukimi, in case you missed that the first time around.

If Itou Kanae’s voice could be described as natural and cute, Hanazawa Kana’s voice can be described as quiet and beautiful. The tone is completely different – we’re now looking at a singer whose voice forces you to shut up, sit down, and pay attention to her. It’s just so enchanting that it’s simply impossible to notice anything else when she sings. In fact, it’s this very reason that caused me to research her music at all. In the Koi no Shirushi single, the first track involves all five girls, yet Hanazawa Kana pretty much steals the show when she enters. She is the star.

Since I’m no longer talking about a seiyuu that I’m completely obsessed with, the preparation for this post has been a pretty wild adventure. It’s exciting to discover new music! And this time around, I’m discovering it just as much as you are. There are a lot of gems here that I’ve never heard before and only stumbled upon in my search for as much Hanazawa Kana music as I could find. Now, without further delay, let’s take a look at these fifteen albums!

Bakemonogatari OP4 Single – Ren’ai Circulation

Artist: Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. Ren’ai Circulation
2. Ren’ai Circulation -instrumental-
3. Atogatari

I’m obligated (by who? Myself, of course) to start with what I’d say is her most famous song. This is the song that had otakus everywhere humming along for months, the annoyingly catchy Ren’ai Circulation. I doubt any of you haven’t heard it before, but if you haven’t, now’s your chance to catch up. Once you listen to it once, you’ll never be able to stop. Never. This is your only warning.

STEINS;GATE Audio Series Lobo Man Number 002 – Mayuri Shiina

Artist: Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. July 11 o’clock 33 minutes 28 1 (Mini Drama) (Part Mayuri Shiina)
2. Haiyu Shii yugure
3. Haiyu Shii yugure (off vocal)
4. comments cast

Steins;Gate is a visual novel I’ve never heard of, and I still don’t really know anything about it because I never bothered looking into it. This CD only has one song, but it’s quite a nice song, the epitome of calm. It’s these kinds of songs that Hanazawa Kana really shines at, so Haiyu Shii yugure is definitely worth listening to. Also, I could listen to the first 5 seconds of the “comments cast” track over and over again. You’ll know when you hear it.

Otome Youkai Zakuro ED Single – Hatsukoi Gentouki

Artists: Nakahara Mai, Sakurai Takahiro, Hanazawa Kana, Hino Satoshi, Toyosaki Aki, Horie Yui, Kaji Yuuki

Tracklist:
1. Hatsukoi wa Zakuro-iro
2. Futari Shizuka
3. Junjou Masquerade

This is a repost, I never watched Otome Youkai Zakuro, but this album is pure gold. Only three songs, but all three are awesome. Futari Shizuka is a great duet with Hanazawa Kana and Hino Satoshi, while Horie Yui completely steals the show in the third track.

Asobi ni Iku yo! ED Single – Kokoro no Madobe Nite

Artist: Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. Kokoro no Madobe Nite
2. Kimi iro * Complete
3. Kokoro no Madobe Nite (off vocal)
4. Kimi iro * Complete (off vocal)

Asobi ni Iku yo! rears its head again. Apparently there were multiple EDs for this series, so both Itou Kanae and Hanazawa Kana got a chance to be the star. Pretty decent CD overall but not one of my top picks.

THE IDOLM@STER DREAM SYMPHONY 00 and 01

Artists: Tomatsu Haruka, Hanazawa Kana, Sanpei Yuuko

Tracklists:

DREAM SYMPHONY 00
1. “HELLO!!” (M@STER VERSION)
2. Happeace
3. “HELLO!!” (M@STER VERSION) -original karaoke-
4. Happeace -original karaoke-

DREAM SYMPHONY 01
1. Purikogu (M@STER VERSION)
2. Crossword
3. Mahou wo Kakete! (M@STER VERSION)
4. Omoide wo Arigatou (M@STER VERSION)
5. “HELLO!!” (M@STER VERSION)
6. Purikogu (M@STER VERSION) -original karaoke-
7. Crossword -original karaoke-
8. Bonus track drama

Whoa, what the heck? IDOLM@STER is on Metanorn? That’s right, Hanazawa Kana voices Mizutani Eri, the 15 year old hikikomori turned idol. I came to these albums expecting really overly peppy, cute songs, and they did end up mostly being that way, but a couple of them really stood out as kickass: Happeace (what the hell does that mean?) and Purikogu (what the hell does that mean?). Especially Purikogu, that song is just as addicting as Ren’ai Circulation, if not MORE.

To Love-Ru Trouble Variety CD Sono 1 and 5

Artists: Tomatsu Haruka, Hanazawa Kana, Yahagi Sayuri, Watanabe Akeno

Tracklists:

Sono 1
1. Daisuki Miikke!
2. Yuusha Rito no Bouken A-PART
3. Chantoseiyo Seishun!
4. Yuusha Rito no Bouken B-PART
5. Skirt no Hajikko

Sono 5
1. …cchae!
2. Konnichiwa Baby A-PART
3. Ouissu! Catharsis
4. Konnichiwa Baby B-PART
5. Kimirashiku Nakya Yada yo!

These are kind of weird… the A-PART/B-PART tracks are drama tracks, obviously, but the other songs are pretty much sung by random people. Hanazawa Kana shows up in a few of them, but the only one that’s really any good is Kimirashiku Nakya Yada yo!

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki ED4 Single – Hen na Kami-sama Shitteru yo

Artist: Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. Hen na Kami-sama Shitteru yo
2. Hen na Kami-sama Shitteru yo predawn mix
3. Hen na Kami-sama Shitteru yo (off vocal)

Oh god, the album art for this CD is so creepy looking. Not to mention I first found the song here… that picture would probably give a child nightmares. It’s not scary, per se… well, maybe the proper term is this. The song isn’t any better, either. I think it’s supposed to be cute or something, but it actually sounds really disturbing. The predawn mix is even more disturbing. I don’t mean that it’s bad – it’s actually quite good. I want you to listen to it. I want you to listen to it. I want you to listen to it!

GUNSLINGER GIRL -IL TEATRINO- Vocal Album

Artists: KOKIA, Tada Aoi, Lia, Akutsu Kana, Shiono Anri, Enmoto Atsuko, Mizuno Risa, Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. Tatta Hitotsu no Omoi
2. doll (Tada Aoi version)
3. doll (Lia version)
4. Scarborough Fair

7. doll (Rico version)
8. doll (Triela version)
9. doll (Claes version)
10. doll (Angelica version)
11. Tsuioku ~Mori to Mizu no Shi~

Angelica’s version is Hanazawa Kana, but I didn’t actually listen to the other tracks until just now. This was a mistake. The other songs on this album are awesome, especially Tatta Hitotsu no Omoi. I’ve never seen this anime, but it sounds like it might be interesting. Of course, this could just be my bias towards series with good music speaking.

The World God Only Knows Character CD.4 Shiori

Artist: Hanazawa Kana

Tracklist:
1. Kuchibue Jet
2. Koi no Shirushi from Shiori
3. Kuchibue Jet (Instrumental)
4. Koi no Shirushi from Shiori (Instrumental)

Repost, not to be confused with a riposte, though it could certainly be used in that way toward someone who claims that Hanazawa Kana is not amazing.

I followed this manga for a while before getting bored of it. I never tried out the anime, but judging from the manga, it’s not something I’ll really recommend.

Hen Zemi Abnormal Physiology Seminar OVA OP & ED Single – Mania e Kira Kira

Artists: Hanazawa Kana, Shiraishi Minoru, Mori Norihisa, Matsuyama Takashi

Tracklist:
1. Mania e Kira Kira
2. Hen Rin Sham ~Hen da yo. Rinse no Ato ni Shampoo te~
3. Mania e Kira Kira (off vocal ver.)
4. Hen Rin Sham ~Hen da yo. Rinse no Ato ni Shampoo te~ (off vocal ver.)

Hey guys. Did you like Tsukimi in Kuragehime? If so, then you should watch Hen Zemi. Matsutaka is basically another Tsukimi, but instead of a world of fujoshi and crossdressers, we have a world of sexual deviants. That’s right. Sexual deviants. This OVA is NSFW, but it is totally worth it. Plus, the OP and ED, both of which are on this album, are so freaking addicting. Hen Rin Sham is possibly the catchiest ED I have ever heard. It just makes me want to get up and dance and sing, and let me tell you, I am not a dancer! Or a singer! It’s a group song, but you’ll immediately realize that Hanazawa Kana is the star here.

Occult Academy Blu-Ray Release Bonus CD Compilation

Artists: HIKASA YOUKO, Chihara Minori, Hanazawa Kana, Takagaki Ayahi, Minase Inori

Tracklist:
1. LOVE machine
2. BE TOGETHER
3. Asia no Junshin
4. HOT LIMIT
5. White Love

Here’s the big surprise! Occult Academy! Actually, these songs were not written for Occult Academy as they are all cover songs, originally sung by groups like Morning Musume and PUFFY, but they are just so fitting for the characters. These songs actually came as tracks on bonus CDs that shipped with the limited editions of volumes 1 through 5 of the DVD or Blu-Ray releases respectively, but the other tracks suck (they’re not songs) so I compiled them here in one spot. I-It’s not like I did it just for you! I just happened to cook too much rice and decided to make you a lunch so I wouldn’t waste food. I’ll kill you twice if you don’t finish it properly! Anyway, all of these songs are top-notch, with Asia no Junshin above the rest (surprise! It’s Hanazawa Kana). LOVE machine is great, too, it has Hikasa Youko being badass and sexy.

There is still one more volume featuring a song by Kobayashi Yuu yet to be released, so it’s not included here.

That’s all I have! There’s a few more that I intentionally omitted, but hopefully this sates the thirst of my fellow music hunters out there… for now. And remember, this will all be on the test!

  3. Dan-go says:

If Itou Kanae’s voice could be described as natural and cute, Hanazawa Kana’s voice can be described as quiet and beautiful.

    Nadeko’s OP single disagreeees

  4. Starry says:

I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you to do Aki Toyosaki next in my previous.

YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE CHOOSING KANA HANAZAWA.

I shall smash my head a couple of times on the wall for forgetting about Kana Hanazawa.

In any case, thanks for doing the complilation!

One song that she is pretty famous for, but you left it out, is Ashita kuru ni in Kobato. Or is that one of the intentionally ones? ^^”

    • sassy says:

Yeah… when I grabbed the soundtrack, everything was in Japanese, and I didn’t feel like fixing all 20 something tracks. It’s a nice song

  5. Namika says:

Ren’ai Circulation !!!!! *0* I love that sooooong~! Though I got that song’s version with Hiroshi Kamiya as Izaya at the beginning and was really puzzled when I found out, that in the original Hanazawa Kana was singing this. But -I’ll say it again- I love that soooong~! *0*
The rest 3 songs I absolutely loved are: Kokoro no madobe nite(So sentimental …. ~3~), Kimi iro complete(nothing special about this one, but the beat captured me :3 ) and Hen Rin Sham. It’s a hyping song, really!!! *_* Even though I don’t like that type of music, I loved this song! It made me want to dance to it too O_O and I would, if I wasn’t so tired ^^”

Sassy, you really like spoiling everyone with all that music…or at least trying to convert people into as much of a fanboy as you are. I don’t mind though, I love Kana’s voice~

  7. Kyokai says:

Yeah, the seiyuu, who’s getting ALL the roles since last season! I dunno how she manages her time! 0.0

you forgot kobato OST. she actually sang in that OST, since she is kobato.
the lyrics of the song is also touching too 🙂

  12. Dan-go says:

Sassy why are you so wise in the ways of music…i’ve been wondering, do you buy the cds yourself? or stalk oricon or something? what sites do you use?

    • sassy says:

I use the artist page (if they work under a music label) and cdjapan to make a list of cds. Then I use a combination of cdjapan, nicosound, and youtube to listen to the music first.

After that, getting the music itself can be easy or hard, there is no single method for it…

  13. Dan-go says:

i just love it when you handle all the links sass, they’re always ready for importing into ituens
