Umineko no Naku Koro ni: 01
UU~ UU~ UU~ UU~ UU~
This is my first “must watch”-listed anime for the Summer season. I haven’t played the VN to be really honest, and I had only read the first 7 chapters of the manga scanlated and released so far, so I don’t know what’s heading next. What I know is that since this has a “When They Cry” mark, it’ll be definitely awesome ^^.
First of all, if you are looking for summary + impressions, get out of here. I’m sick of that. I’ll just type whatever I wanna ramble on. Just like how I did on my Umi Monogatari post, being categorized by fangirling/rambling or per character, so yeah~ Don’t expect the usual episodics here. Screencaps, as usual, are on the next page being I hate seeing them cluttering the first and actual post page. Here goes~
The OP
“One Winged Bird” by Shikata Akiko
The OP is quite epic. With all those creepy sound-thingy-I-can’t-tell-what just adds the eerie effect. The vocals of Shikata Akiko were really high pitched and thin. The animation accompanied was really awesome, so no complaints there. There are lots of very interesting scenes on the OP. George and Shannon being on a huge aquarium, Shannon on a broken mirror, clocks, etc. Probably my favorite is Maria on some kind of a Halloween land, then shows a clip of her hysterically laughing. That was awesome.
Flick! Flick! Flick!
Episode one of Umineko: only two sounds I only remember hearing. First is this flickering-photography-styled character introduction that’s done to… well, every character. The effect isn’t really that annoying though, unless you have like, tons of cast all introduced at the very first episode and have this gets repeated. Hell, even now I’m hearing those flickering sounds.
The next prominent sound will be discussed later.
Battler
Battler’s the pretty guy that definitely needs a second look because he’s an unforgiving sexual harasser xD.
His seiyuu is Daisuke Ono, who needs no introductions for his fabulousness and GAR-ness ^^.
Uhh… yeah.
Oh wow, he should thank the fact that he’s on a remote island or else police would have easily caught him and get arrested for sexual harrassment. Batttler is a perverted moron that has no mercy on groping girls. Even one of the few Rie Kugimiya roles with actual b00bs isn’t an excuse to his ecchi-ness too.
Apparently, grandma an excuse. EW.
Jessica
Marina Inoue! Haha just by the moment she opened her mouth, that just screamed Kyoko/Alicia and stuff xD. Moving on, Jessica has b00bs, is spunky, and has b00bs. But seriously, I like her. She’s spunky and feisty ^^.
Kanon
Despite from being voiced by Yu Kobayashi (which is a female btw) that guarantees him having a very smexy voice, I really love Kanon as well ^^.
THOSE EYES!!!
Apparently I really love this bitch for her gazes xD. The overly-exaggerated eyes are just win. Plus with matching “DUUUUN!” bgm makes it more awesome. Here are more freak-eyes from Umineko:
Only thing I found awesome on Maria this episode.
Lastly, this one. Oh wait, that’s Battler’s “regular” look already. Really, his eyes are just looks inconsistently freaky. I’m not a fan of male characters having huge eyes.

Seriously, this brat fucking annoys me. Someone please burn her to death.
I love Rosa though for smacking the hell out of the retard, and she seriously saved my life from that “Uu~” nightmare for a second. That child abuse scene was so entertaining. But yeah, the “Uu~ Uu~”-ing just continued >.>.
So yeah, I’m using pictures of Maria getting attacked by Rosa xD~ Not totally liking Maria by the first episode, but probably will when she gets on being yandere.
Throwing a ring…
Second Summer anime I’m watching and this also has ring-throwing scenes, just like Umi Monogatari. I wonder if ring-throwing will be a trend this season?
The ED
“la divina tragedia ~Makyoku~” by Jimang
Not really a fan of that old guy singing, but I love the last part of the ending sequence where Beatice and Battler are sitting on the emptied chairs before. I also love the chess touch ^^. Also, lots of symbolisms as well, and looks like gold butterflies will be quite a primary motif in here.
Uhh… now what?
Overall as expected, it turned out plain fine. Since Studio DEEN had always been like that. Good thing I didn’t really kept my hopes up high in it. So yeah, I can’t wait for the murder scenes to happen (not a spoiler anymore duh~) since that’s the basic reason why I’m checking out Umineko on the first place ^^.
Though there are some stuff that annoyed me, like the inconsistency of the animation. Battler’s eyes sometimes just look too O__O, and Jessica’s breasts gets too unproportional (or is that really normal? XD). And now that we’re talking about the animation, there’s nothing really awesome on it overall.
Voice acting is top-notch, especially for the old people. I love Ami Koshimizu‘s performance the most as Rosa because she just pwns it. Eva (Miki Itou) getting *BLEEP*-ed was really hilarious too xD.
It was really something for me to look forward to every week for something fresh to try on this Summer season, besides from all those lesbians, ecchi, slice-of-life lameness and many others. I just hope the next episodes would not be disappointing.

Umg, the OP was extreme :kyaa: I absolutely loved the pacing of the song and the animation’s correspondence with it. Beatrice probably stood out the most for me cuz of the color of her design and her far-off expression…and then she got all evilly smirky on our Battler-kun which just won it for me. I can’t wait for her to have a real appearance (and hear Sayaka Ohara’s awesome witch voice~ <333).

I agree, the "Uu~" was getting so annoying. I felt bad for Maria when Rosa slapped her in the manga but here, it was just ugh. -_-;

That's pretty much the only thing I liked about the ED, too.
They’re just missing the afternoon tea set. NyahahahaAnd I’m lovin’ the golden butterflies. I hope they eat someone. 83Overall, it’s okay. I think I put too much expectations on it and got let down a little but I’m still going to hold out for the later episodes. Eva being voiced by the same seiyuu who voiced for Miyo says something alright (oh dear, haha).
