Natsume Yuujin-chou 01: A ‘MySpace’ for your Monster Friends.

From the director of Baccano! and Jigoku Shoujo, here comes another anime with a unique story but quite low-budgeted when it comes to animation…

Natsume may look like and ordinary kid but think again, because he could see spirits like her grandmother, Reiko, did. Reiko, though, used to bully the spirits, and bound them to her will in the “Book of Friends”. Now that Natsume has inherited this book, a never-ending stream of spirits is chasing him. With the help of a fortune cat who turns out totally not a cat (and who really just wants Natsume to die so he can have the book), Natsume spends his days dissolving the contracts that bind the spirits and trying not to get killed.

Impression:

What I liked about the story is that there’s more depthness than what it looks. Natsume is a likable character, which is good, for he will be the one whom you’ll be stuck with for the rest of the series. He is quite interesting, as well as Reiko. I found  Nyanko-senei a bit weird but it’s so cute when you mute his voice… The OP theme is so far my favorite this year (alongside from Love Jump of Kurenai and Futatsu of Vampire Knight). I honestly don’t think I would be blogging this one frequently since this unfortunately reminds me of Bleach but I may be giving this a try if I still have space for my anime-schedule…

[addition: Well, besides from Bleach, it also reminds me of xxxHolic :)… really.]

Wait, what about this reminds you of Bleach? (Or maybe I’ve not watched Bleach in ages…) I thought the episode was pretty good, well it’s the first show on my “I’ll give it a go” list that actually surpassed my expectations for it.

@blissmo: We have something in common :))

@issa-sa: It actually reminded me of Bleach because of the monster thingy and some other stuff I really can’t point out specifically. Besides from Bleach, it also reminds me of XXXholic…

    Bleach? O_o

That would probably be the last thing I’d relate it to.

I really liked this episode. I also thought of XXXHOLiC but… Bleach?
It could… I guess because they are both supernatural. And Nyanko-sensei could make you think of Kon. Eh~ My brain’s fried from thinking too hard.
